MURICA FUCK YEAH

still waiting for them to get out

>Artemis II Mission
Artemis II NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years. Launched on April 1, 2026, the four-person crew is currently on a ~10-day lunar flyby mission aboard the Orion spacecraft. This is the first time humans have traveled beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. The flight is testing systems for future lunar landings.

Well, that's usually the problem. NASA is good at treating space like it's a military operation, and in some ways it is. You don't get fancy touchscreen controls or 4k footage from starlink. You get radio silence (encrypted video/audio transmissions) and a couple knobs. One similarity is that they both basically fly themselves though.

>>532920084

CONSUMER SENTIMENT LOWEST RECORDED SINCE WW2
>Consumer survey released Friday showed that sentiment declined 11% early this month to a reading of 47.6, lower than anything seen in the post World War II era, including during the Great Recession, the pandemic downturn and the historic inflation surge afterward.

INFLATION SKYROCKETS
>Meanwhile, Americans’ expectations for inflation in the year ahead surged a full percentage point early this month to 4.8%, the biggest monthly increase in a year, when Trump unveiled his sweeping “Liberation Day” tariffs.

CONSUMER PRICES UP HIGHEST IN 2 YEARS
>In a separate report Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the Consumer Price Index surged 0.9% in March, the sharpest monthly increase since 2022, pushing the annual rate to 3.3%, the highest in nearly two years.

why can't they just land normal people
>>
>>532920183
No. Their last attempt at landing a rover on the moon 2 years ago was a spectacular failure. It crashed down like a meteor.
They've prepared 10 years for the rover landing and in the aftermath Roscosmos had their funding slashed because it was needed for the war.
To add insult to injury, India landed their own moon rover near the same spot where the Russian rover crashed just days later without any problems.

Right now the space race ranking is:
USA (+ some ESA)
China
India
And then nothing.

It was a ten day mission (translunar was longer than the Apollo flights because of the relatively underpowered ESM service module), to flyby the Moon's dark side.

Artemis III next year is an Earth-orbit test of the lunar lander, and Artemis IV is scheduled as the first actual landing.

Historical context:
Apollo 8 in December 1968 was an orbital only mission (similar to how Artemis II April 2026 was a flyby)
Apollo 9 was an Earth-orbit test of the Lunar Module.
Apollo 10 was a lunar dry run mission, Lunar Module flew to within several miles of Moon's surface and returned.
Apollo 11 was the first, of six, manned landings on the Moon.
