As the redistricting is not budget issue it is invalid by VA Law.

Yeah, the same judge previously issued an injunction. The state supreme court put a stay on it but didn't dismiss nor make a ruling citing old virginia precedent that essentially regards it as improper for the judiciary to directly intervene and keep people from the polls but reserving the right to overturn if neccesary. The Virginia Way and all that. Now the vote had occurred the same judge on the same grounds has struck it down as expected and they will make a ruling. In theory the idea seems to be to take the will of the people into account and if a vote is overwhelming that gives strong incentive to allow a matter to stand but I have little faith in the current court and fear it was more kicking the can down the road simultaneously allowing national pressure to influence while simultaneously disenfranchiseming the very voters they claim to be advocating for by waiting and in doing so removing recourse and reactionary voter turnout. But it being struck down and going to the Supreme court and being struck down by a lower court should have fully expected when the previous injunctions were never ruled on and revolved. Maybe they'll suprise me though, maybe they do still have honor and deserve their title as such.

Democrat here, I think it's good that VA redistricting balances out Republican efforts. That said, Democrats pretending 51.5% of people voting to consolidate 90% of power is any more legitimate than Texas' governor doing it is laughable. All that vote proved was how gerrymandered VA will be.

Democratic-Republicans unironically did this before the Republican party even existed, it's part of why Federalists got raped so hard initially. Look up the "three-fifths compromise", it's why we inevitably got the fascist Democratic-Republican plant named Lincoln, who abused federal power to enslave entire states to federal power by force. I'm against slavery mind you but I'm also against counting foreigners and trespassers in-general among "constituents", which the Democratic-Republicans championed. So fuck you with this blame game shit, when this crap was set in stone by them and subsequently buried under miles of lawfare.

It's even more funnier, because a Republican TRUMP judge had originally knocked down the Texas redraw law, because they drew the lines based on right-leaning Hispanics (the entire reason Republicans claimed the old maps were invalid as they dismantled the Voting Rights Act).

The Virginia redistricting was VOTED on by the PEOPLE of VA. Do you understand the audacity of an appointed judge to try to overthrow the direct will of American citizens? It's unheard of in our country.
This dies at conception.

But this is what happens when your country is based on capitalism more than civic solidarity. Capitalism is fine. But it MUST be secondary to principles, or this bullshit will never change. This is why I vote Democrat even though I live conservative values. The conservatives rationalize anything that makes money. To them "money = productivity." It's enragingly simplistic and unsophisticated.

Illegal immigration is bad, but it makes money, so it's good.

Astronomical housing costs for citizens is bad, but it makes money, so it's good.

Predatory insurance contracts are bad, but it makes money, so it's good.

Trump is the ultimate embodiment. He is a histrinonic idiot psychopath, but he likes money, so it's good.

Back when they were afraid Republicans would retake power and change the State Constitution to outlaw abortion they made it exceedingly difficult to change it.

When they felt the need to change it they decided to ignore the Law.
They were extremely thorough when they wrote the Law , given the stakes in their eyes, to make it crystal clear what is allowed and not.

This would require the State Supreme Court to be nakedly partisan to allow it to stand.

>>
>>533681304
It's applicable to the thread because Republicans want to treat women and minorities like lower castes, then wonder why those people vote to destroy the political voice of more traditional communities.

Because traditional communities are more likely to think sexism and racism should be tolerated because "it makes money." Admittedly, in 1940, I could understand this because people were ignorant. But in 2026, at trillions in debt, you're just an idiot if you think women belong in the kitchen and minorities should shut up and that would fix everything. You may as well believe the Earth is flat. It's that level of uninformed.

It was fine until we got a federal reserve and a mere 60 years later dropped gold reserves like a bad habit, America has only ever had "principles" when it had a clear foreign enemy. As far as Trump goes he's a Democrat in my opinion, regardless of the banner he was elected under, he embodies the liberalized ethos of holding nothing sacred outside the moment's needs. His only difference with them is that he holds profit as sacred, not religion, not national security or even the people's best interests.

Special sessions called by the Governor does not qualify as one of the Legislative sessions required. The exception is if the special session was called for the purpose of amending the Constitution.

This is what I mean. Our highly intellectual leaders don't want us to think critically think about who our "enemy" even is. If you morally object to a war, there are people TODAY who would call you a draft-dodging traitor. If you say a qualified woman who can run a 6 minute mile and bench 180 can be a cop, there are people TODAY who call you a pantywaist. The Republican party needs people who say "Sometimes, you guys need to shut the fuck up." Instead of the hardline blue silence old boys frat tradition same bullshit. That literally has us trillions in debt.

I'm the Democrat who will teach my kids please and thank you, to win and lose with grace, to treat all genders and races with Christ's love, to know your civic rights, and to act in a way that makes you worthy of those rights.

Texas didn't break any laws in order to redistrict.

>to treat all genders and races with Christ's love
That's a major part of why our nation has gone to shit, your people gave these "genders and races" enough rope to hang themselves with but then did nothing when those people just asked for more. Christians abandoned their principles ages ago in favor of liberalism that supplants them and corrupts their children into abominations.

Virginia democrats aren't just gerrymandering though they are stealing an entire state for themselves a swing state that can go either way. What democrats are doing goes beyond simple redistricting gerrymandering in their favor they are quite literally taking everything for themselves and aren't even trying to hide it.
>>

They did.

Twice.
https://www.politico.com/news/2025/11/18/federal-judges-block-new-texas-congressional-map-00656680
Initially, because it violated VRA.
Then SCOTUS said fuck VRA.
...and Texas Republicans drew the new map on hispanic voters, instead of black.
So, he blocked it again, because it failed the new rules.
...and SCOTUS said, "no, but not like that."

And this was a Trump judge who was literally just trying to follow the letter of the law, before he realized it was never about legality.
>“I applaud President Trump for nominating Jeff Brown,” Abbott, who served as a justice on the Texas Supreme Court in the late 1990s, said in a 2019 statement praising Brown’s “sharp legal mind” and “commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law.”

Time is a factor. If the VA SC ignores the Law and allows this it matters when. They need to move fast.
If they dilly dally the US SC will take the case and issue an injunction. If they don't hurry it will be a moot point. The election will be over before a ruling is issued.

You will know the fix is in if this thing rockets through the system.

>virginia being a swing state is a meme because I say it is

Virginia goes from Republican to Democrat and back again all the time hence a swing state. Not going to argue about the Northern VA problem but its the only reason democrats even have a chance in virginia. Take northern virginia out (which should happen considering northern VA is mostly government DC transplant workers and brown people) and the state turns solid red overnight.

Balancing a states proportion of the state 's popular vote to congressional representatives is not the same as redistricting to ensure no representation for Republicans.
>>
>>533683817
This the 2020 representation of Texas that would be based on the US Census.
The original map they drew off this was 25-13 Rep/Dem.
The new map they just drew is 30-8 Rep/Dem.
So, let me just check again:

No he didn't. They issued a stay. Nothing was overturned. This is virginia precedent for challenges that fall too close to election itself, to defer ruling until after the fact. To allow the people to vote and not use judicial power to cancel an election outright but reserving the right to act if neccesary.

>"While the challengers have presented weighty assertions of invalidity regarding the procedural path and descriptive language of the proposed amendment, the proximity of the election and the potential for irreparable harm to the franchise compel a stay of the circuit court's injunction. We do not today reach the merits of these claims, but observe that the judiciary retains its full authority to review the ultimate validity of the referendum should it be approved by the voters."

That was the courts statement.

Oh. And this statment was back on march 4th BTW. They always expected to hear the case, they just thought it was a bad look for a court to outright cancel the vote preemptively. With the margins so thin there's a very real chance they'll toss it out wheras if it had been overwhelming they would have very likely allowed it to stand.
>>
Oh, and it's also worth noteing despite being called with an unusual vote like this Chesapeake county with it's 100,000 voters and a margin of only 1000 votes with several thousand outstanding votes could in fact still flip the whole thing if the remaining votes are even slightly out of line with predictions. It wouldn't need a statistically improbable 90% of remaining votes, just a slight tilt in the other direction. In an unusual election which by definition is already breaking normal voting habits that's not completely outside the realm of possibility. Still unlikely, but less unlikely than usual since the vote itself is unusual.
