>NBC News confirmed that an Iranian F-5 fighter jet successfully conducted a bombing run on Camp Buehring in Kuwait, penetrating layered American air defenses despite the presence of Patriot missile batteries, short-range interceptors, advanced radar coverage, and persistent regional surveillance networks

>According to U.S. officials cited in reporting, the Iranian F-5 approached at low altitude and executed what was described as a “dumb bomb” attack, bypassing Patriot systems and short-range air defense networks that were expected to create overlapping interception zones.

Iran has some great pilots considering the hardware they have.

amp Buehring in Kuwait occupies a central role in U.S. military logistics architecture because it functions as a major staging hub for force projection, sustainment operations, and pre-positioned combat support for American operations across the wider CENTCOM theatre.

The Pilot: Mathias Rust, a teenager with only about 50 hours of flight experience.
The Route: Took off from Malmi Airport, Helsinki, flying to the Soviet border and proceeding to Moscow.
The Landing: Due to crowded conditions, he landed on a bridge near Red Square (Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge) rather than in the square itself, subsequently taxing close to the Kremlin.
Soviet Reaction: Despite being tracked by radar and intercepted by a MiG-23, the plane was not shot down. It was mistaken for a friendly aircraft or, due to confusion, allowed to proceed.
Aftermath: Rust was arrested and sentenced to four years in a labor camp for violating flight laws and "malicious hooliganism". He was released after 14 months.
Political Impact: The incident humiliated the Soviet military and allowed Mikhail Gorbachev to remove high-ranking conservative military leaders who opposed his reforms (perestroika and glasnost).

>On 10 March 2022 at 23:01 CET, an unidentified Soviet-made Tupolev Tu-141 reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. With an unidentified operator and unknown destination, the origin of the drone is presumed to be connected to military actions during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The drone's flight over Croatia, Hungary and Romania (all three being NATO states) prompted criticism of the countries' defense systems as the UAV was detected but not cleared.

>Operator: Undisclosed
>Proclaimed state secret by Croatian, Hungarian and Romanian governments.

It spent 5 minutes in our airspace and we detected it before entering.
If we were to fire AD at it, it would've gone into Hungary and they'd still kvetch about it to this day.
The drone was operated by Ukrainians and packed with explosives. It didn't crash, that's where the coordinates dictated it should hit.
It was an act of terrorism conducted by Ukraine to force Croatia out of its neutral stance just like when they used an S300 on a bunch of Polish farmers.

They do look fairly similar, but those are clearly F-5s. The long nose, the more slender wing root fairing, and the geometry of the tail. But you could easily mistake them. I think they used F-5s to look like the MiG-28 in the movie Top Gun too.

I'm usually not a fan of soviet aircraft designs but you just have to love little ekranoplans, they're so adorable and seem so fun to ride around in. The negative dihedral and the massive fricking winglets making that little inverted gull wing design makes them too cute. I kind of want one. I don't even know what I'd use it for. They're terrible on fuel usage.

I mean, you get drag issues from the shear wind over the surface you're flying on, and you can't efficiently transfer energy into forward speed by using the road like a car would or the heavy mass of water like a boat would. Hydroplanes help solve this issue a little but it also means they can't be multiterrain. At least with hovercrafts you can idle in place, and hydrofoils can act like boats, with an ekranoplan you must have ram air or you stall making their low speed fuel economy total ass. That being said of course, an ekranoplan could have a much higher top speed than either a hydrofoil or a hovercraft and can go on multiterrain. As long as it's not too obstacle filled.

Dip the foils into the water before the hull has to slap waves.

I like the idea of skis on shocks to take wave impact.

Better yet, make amphib landing gear where the cover doors sit in front and gear retracts/shock-absorbs rearword and up, so the covers could also act as skis, and only a bit of tire showing when fully lowered. I guess the cover doors would also bust brush if needed in rough landing strip.

this thing was really cool. Sadly had many of the same issues of the ekranoplans when it was landing and taking off phases. Too much sea air, heavy waves always eating it. It was a cool idea though.

floating logs are always a big problem for seaplanes, due to also needing light, weak hulls.

It only takes one, sooner or later, to really ruin your whole day.

SF Bay used to have a Seaplane Harbor and part of that was a floating barrier to keep logs out and special boats to "mine sweep" for logs.

>>533907458
The F-5 or a spiritual successor is exactly the kind of fighter aircraft we need. None of this F-35 "650 million dollar lifetime cost" malarkey. Even if the the F-35 may be on paper superior quality, for the same price as buying one F-35 we can instead have 40 to 50 F-5's. 50 F-5's will always be more effective air dominance than 1 F-35. We could be flying hundreds of thousands of F-5's rather than the pathetic 2800 F-35's which were planned. Low cost aircraft combined with expendable pilots and high throughput pilot training programs is the winning strategy. F-35's and all this high tech bullshit only exists to enrich MIC grifters. Reject the F-35 and return to the F-5 as God intended.

Is "Hearts and Minds" a viable counter insurgency tactic or is it just a handicap?

Fact is, any normal American automatically wins "hearts and milds" just with our amazing riz and pop culture chops. Everyone wants to be "just like an American", even today.

It takes serious Jewish sickness to change that.

prob is they can't operate anytime the chop gets choppy, which is like 3x a day.

its like the reviews I'm reading about "regional airlines" in Fly Over States. 1/2 the time the flight is cancelled because some plane can't show up because of weather somewhere else.

The value of the deal was not released, the Emirati newspaper The National reported that China sells the L-15 for $10–15 million per unit.[17]

F-35 does Mach 1.6 (but that burns its stealth paint).

Chinese fighter/trainer does 1.4
