What are we expecting for the election this week lads? I'm thinking Labour will win but barely, Greens and Reform will do decently which will make Stramer seethe, things go on as usual with no real change promised. if not a major Labour win then I'm thinking a three way coalition between Labour-Greens-Reform

Obvious caveat being that this is all just focusing on illegals (10s-of-thousands p/a) to avoid talking about the legals (100s-of-thousands p/a), but:
A) In an electoral system, you don't always get what you vote for. Should the 10.5k Reform voters in Gorton & Denton be collectively punished alongside the 26.3k who voted for all other candidates? Particularly when that result, and similar results in other constituencies across the north, are downstream of demographic replacement in the first place. They've already been flooded with Pakis, and now you're saying you're going to punish them for being made minorities by making it even worse.
B) Reform have insisted that these detention centres would be proper ones, detaining migrants and not letting them free roam, and that the migrants would not be able to inflict anti-social crime on the local areas. So, they insist, it's not actually a 'punishment'. So what is it? And why make it partisan? It's just red meat, gesturing at 'rubbing the left's nose in it', while also swearing up-and-down that no discomfort will actually come of it to affect them anyway. Pure posturing, trying to look hard.
C) The priority must be getting them deported ASAP, and any detentions centres should be located to make that process as fast and efficient as possible. Detain them in dockside shipping containers if it gets them out faster, IDGAF, just focus on getting them gone, not on immiserating your own countrymen for not being sufficiently enthused about your party, or for living in the 'wrong' postcode.
D) The Greens don't want detention centres at all. They want illegals to be given visas and council houses. They aren't just being hypocritical NIMBYs, they're operating from completely different fundamentals. I know Reform think this is clever turnabout, "[making] the enemy live up to its own book of rules," a la Alinsky, but it's just not. They're simply declaring that they'll implement their own rules in the most spiteful way possible.

Labour wipeout because everyone's fed up, prompting someone to launch their palace coup against Starmer and try and take the party leadership from him. >More than 600,000 households received more in benefits than the average worker’s salary, *the first analysis of its kind has revealed*...The analysis, by the Conservatives, also revealed that...

The political nuance often lost in this debate lies in the "framing" of the data. Both sides of the aisle use these figures to support specific ideological goals, often by omitting the mechanics of how the money is actually spent.

Here are the primary layers of misrepresentation and political nuance:
1. The "Middleman" Misrepresentation (The Housing Loophole)

Politically, these figures are often framed as cash in the pockets of claimants. However, for a significant portion of those 600,000 households, a large chunk of that "income" is Housing Benefit.

The Nuance: In high-rent areas, the government pays the landlord directly (or provides the tenant the money specifically for rent). The claimant never "sees" this money in terms of lifestyle or disposable income.

The Political Twist: By including housing costs in the "welfare" total, the data can make it look like a family is living a high-income lifestyle, when in reality, they are simply living in an area with high property values where the government is effectively subsidizing the private rental market.

2. The "Individual vs. Household" Fallacy

The comparison often pits a household’s total benefits against an individual’s average salary.

The Nuance: A household receiving £35,000 in benefits might be supporting two parents and four children, some with disabilities. Comparing that to the take-home pay of one single worker is an "apples-to-oranges" comparison.

The Political Twist: This framing suggests that "not working" is more lucrative than "working," ignoring that a working household with multiple children and similar needs would likely also be eligible for top-ups like Child Benefit or Universal Credit on top of their salary.
>>
>>534447502
3. The "Cost of Disability" Erasure

A significant number of those in the 600,000 bracket are receiving PIP (Personal Independence Payment) or other disability-related premiums.

The Nuance: Disability benefits are not intended to replace a wage; they are designed to cover the additional costs of living with a disability (specialized transport, heating, care, or equipment).

The Political Twist: By grouping disability payments into the general "welfare pays more" narrative, the specific, non-negotiable costs of being disabled are ignored to make the total figure look "excessive."

4. The Benefit Cap as a Political Tool

The Benefit Cap was a flagship policy of the 2010s intended to ensure no one on benefits earned more than the average family.

The Nuance: The existence of 600,000 households "above" this level suggests the cap is "failing." However, many of these families are exempt from the cap because they are working a certain number of hours or have severe disabilities.

The Political Twist: Highlighting these numbers allows politicians to argue for "tightening" the cap or reassessing eligibility, even if the households in question are the ones the system originally deemed the most in need of protection.
>>
>>534447536
5. Regional Variation

An "average salary" buys a very different lifestyle in different parts of the country.

The Nuance: In the North of England, £32,000 might be a comfortable middle-class wage. In London, it is often below the poverty line for a family.

The Political Twist: Using a national average (the "UK worker") flattens the reality that many of these high-benefit households are simply located in areas where the cost of survival (specifically rent) is astronomical.

Summary of the "Take"

The debate isn't really about the data—the data is largely accurate. The debate is about what benefits are for.

If you believe benefits are a minimal safety net to prevent starvation, then these numbers look like a failure of the work incentive.

If you believe benefits are a social stabilizer meant to account for the high cost of disability, housing, and childcare, then these numbers are a reflection of how expensive those things have become in the UK.

You are ESL jeet go back to speaking Urdu. White man's language is too hard for you.

Thanks for that ChatGPT.

Still. I love this Tory "research". What they did is read the CSJ report from last year which used the figure for living wage (1m+) and then look up the average wage and then somehow they are being treated like Stephen Hawking.

The deeper issue here is that the Tories lack the resource to do any kind of "analysis" and if they had any capacity they'd be spending on working out where their fucking voters are for Thursday because they still have no idea. The Tory "ground game" in terms of getting out the vote is non-existent and they have no data. Being a party for the over-70s comes with some inherent drawbacks.

Labour will do badly but overperform the polling. The "quiet Labour voter" is a thing now. Reform will do well be underperform the polling, its just a fundamental thing with them that the more people see of them, the less they like them. The Greens will do more or less as expected, their vote is quite concentrated and easy to read. The Lib Dems will be judged the losers.

Not true of course, see pic related. In 2011, 11% of England's construction workforce were immigrants (born outside the UK). I'm sure that proportion will be higher these days. Source:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/internationalmigration/articles/migrantlabourforcewithintheconstructionindustry/august2018

So the question is, why are "Restore Britain" liars? Why do they paint some whitewashed picture of the UK which isn't factually true?
