This makes him seem both more brave, and also makes it more clear that he was brought down by his hubris. Plus of course, it plays out beat for beat how the concept Tolkien is paying homage to from Shakespeare plays out in Macbeth. Finally, “begone foul dwimmerlaik lord of carrion” and “do what you will, and I will hinder it, if I may” are just leagues ahead of any lines Jackson ever put to pen.

If anything, eowyn comes across weaker and more doubtful than in the book. In the movie she's clearly afraid, only kept up with the power of desperation. In the book she has a much more confident and confrontative attitude.
