Starmer seems like the kind of politician who actually believes in stuff like "putting the party first", so it's just funny that he's forcing Wes into a humiliation ritual and has truly fucked over Burnham.
>>
>>534929826
I don't think he has fucked over Burnham. If the challenge was forced now, it would effectively derail Burnham's attempt to enter the Commons. If anything, he has guaranteed Burnham will succeed him.
>>
Keir really wants that ambassador to the US role
>>
>>534929853
It was Starmer pressuring the labour exec committee that stopped Burnham running for Denton, which if a leadership challenge happens now will be what prevents Burnham from becoming PM. Streeting knows he can't beat Burnham in a race so there's no way he's going to hang around until September or whatever but no one is going to trigger the leadership race for him which will make him look like a snake and the party by extension.

I'd glean it's quite possible that the cabinet didn't press the issue because they need Starmer to stay around as an effective caretaker until Burnham can find a winnable seat. That in itself would make them snakes.

Starmer should stay, the alternatives are so much worse Rayner or the poofta. burnham seems like the most likeable out of them all and the least communist. Keir is a wanker, big fake tiddies aside Rayner is a tax dodging slag who hates white people, and yeah streeting is a poof. If I had to pick one, I'd pick Burnham. None of them can save the party though, their economic policies need a complete 360 and Reeves should be the one getting the sack. She's done more to damage the country and ruin the average working family than any of them.
>>
>>534929951
The thing is there isn't really a guaranteed seat for Burnham now. Even Gorton & Denton wouldn't have been a walk-in, he probably would have won but it's a very poor area that hasn't had the same benefits as the city centre from his time as mayor. I can imagine there's quite a bit of local seething about Burnham because the English there are fat chav mongs and browns are obviously paki retards

A defiant Starmer clings on to power with a bold strategy of playing off his two rival factions against one another.

He has refused to negotiate an exit and instead has challenged his opponents to make a formal leadership challenge or stand aside.

Whilst there are a large number of MPs that want him out, more than enough to force such a challenge, they are split between the right wing of the party and the left.

The right wing want an immediate contest because this gives them the best chance of getting their man, Wes Streeting, into position.

The left want a leadership challenge to take place only once they have contrived a way to get Andy Burnham into parliament, an immediate contest means they would have to nominate Angela Rayner or Ed Miliband, both of whom are hobbled due to their past, or go with a lesser known figure.

This strategy may allow Starmer to hold a while longer, but if it fails will lead to a lot internal conflict within the party.
>>
>>534930334
None of these fake posters have any actual reason for "the replacement will be worse than starmer" nonsense.
>>
>>534930334
There isn't really any reason for him to reenter the Commons leaving his cushy mayoral job just to be a backbencher or even a cabinet minister. He wants the throne.

Also, he is associated with the soft left and has been for ages. It was his entire appeal in 2015. He is certainly to the left of Stairmaster.

Polling is obviously shit but Burnham's numbers in Denton were much better than the party's so I think it would have been fine. If they line up a seat it will be by resignation so it'll be some super safe lab seat and they will do their internal polling first they can get him in it's whether they can do it fast enough.

>>534930334
>I have only scratched the surface of Burnham but from what I saw he seemed pretty level headed
This is roughly the same level of scrutiny starmer got before becoming the leader. People think Burnham has done a good job regenerating Manchester but I think the reality is they just now have almost unservicable levels of debt. Some other lab councils did the same thing like Sunderland. Burnham isn't responsible for all of it (there's two bodies iirc for greater manchester and county council) but they would have listened to his opinions. He won't be able to do that as PM without more tax increases or cuts which is half the reason why Starmer immediately plunged.

>>534930540
Also worth remembering the bond markets won't react kindly if Burnham tries to inflate a dead economy in the middle of an inflationary crisis with more deficit spending. The UK is approaching the end of it's tether in that regard, and a Wealth Tax won't make a difference.

I do wonder whether UK Labour is screwed regardless of who takes over, but I'm not sure. I am sure some middle class lovvies toying with the Greens or even Reform will flow back to Labour again.
>>
Is one pile of shit much worse than another? Not really, it will still be a generic Labour government regardless of who is at the top.

Changes that might occur:
>Rayner would be more openly pro-bennies
>Streeting would be more actively pro-EU
>Burnham would be more actively socialist

But it's all still just variations on managed decline open-borders human rights progressive stakeholder needs-based socialist quangocracy.
I just think that Starmer should stay because it will keep increasing the pressure and keep decreasing public opinion of the Labour party as a whole, which means Reform are more secure.

It's probably not so much about making an actual difference but being able to get close enough to not rock the markets, a wealth tax which he always advocates for would do it at least in the short term. But I don't really know what he would want to spend on to help labour's chances.
>I am sure some middle class lovvies toying with the Greens or even Reform will flow back to Labour again.
I agree, being able to divorce himself from the things that bothered people about starmer like the fuel allowance and pip changes will mean he would probably be able to come out as the biggest party in the next election. We saw it last time with lots of people holding their nose and voting for the tories anyway which is why the <100 seat polls never materialised.

>How did they get rid of other leaders? Bribes? What does Starmer actually want?

Tory party rules are different - it only requires enough MPs to not have confidence then a vote automatically happens. With Labour it doens't just require 81 MPs but requires 81 specifically backing one candidate which won't happen at the moment.

Also with Boris he refused to allow another lockdown for Omicron so the powers that be had to remove him. Starmer is still perfectly useful for them - importing immigrants, locking up native Brits, the powers that be like him so there aren't the shadowy moves going on that remobved Boris. (Boris was even worse frankly on immigration but at that moment they punished him for disobeying by not having that last lockdown.)

Anyway what difference it will amke I don't know. If they elect Rayner they will be totally crushed in the general election as she is so unpleasant and most people can't stand her. Burnham? His whol angle is that hes "the king in the north" demanding more money for Manchester - he literally has nothing else and won't suit being PM. Streeting? Another bureuacrat like Starmer. So they would have to go with someone else - and that's a risk so Starmer feels he can call their bluff.

Government finances are more fucked = they need to cut bennie mong payouts, or increase taxes.

Increasing taxes = economy goes down = they need to raise more taxes again.

Also, mortgages will be more expensive.

Discontent lefties have been happy to split the vote and support the greens in by-elections and local elections because they don't matter much, but when the rubber hits the road and they are faced with the very real possibility of Prime Minister Nigel Farage at the next general election I think many of them will fall back in line. I don't know if it will be enough to save Labour but I think the 2029 election will be closer than people think.

https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Mangalore/ambulance-driver-booked-for-death-of-four-in-road-accident-at-shiroor/article65667737.ece

>The Byndoor police on Thursday arrested ambulance driver Roshan in connection with the death of four persons near Shiroor toll booth in Udupi district on Wednesday.

>Roshan was bringing patient Gajanana from a hospital in Honnavar of Uttara Kannada district to a private hospital in Udupi district. Apart from Roshan and Gajanana, there were five people in the ambulance.

>Footage from the CCTV at the toll plaza showed the ambulance driver losing control over the vehicle as it approached the lane meant for emergency vehicles. The ambulance hit the toll plaza and overturned, which resulted in the death of Ganajana, Jyothi, Lokesh and Manjunath. Four people, including a toll booth employee, were injured.

>Based on a complaint from toll booth staff Deepak Shetty, the Byndoor Police booked Roshan for offences under Sections 279 (Punishment for rash driving) and 304 (A) (Punishment for causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code.

>Meanwhile, Roshan told reporters that he applied the brakes after seeing a cow blocking the way in the lane used by emergency vehicles. He lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.

>Social activist Ansar Ahmed said that the police should book the NHAI concessionaire, IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd., for allowing a cow sit on the lane. ‘‘The negligence on the part of the toll booth staff resulted in the accident,’’ he said.

>The Byndoor Police said that negligence of the NHAI concessionaire, if any, will be looked into during investigation.

Fucking state of this, how can you blame a cow for flooring it like a daft cunt in the rain.

trussnomics was based though, so is the above infographic
the issue isn't these plans, the issue is the fact that the entire financial sector has been actively betting against the uk for decades so any plan that actively brings us out of crisis is against the interests of the banks
there is no solution other than debt forgiveness or something akin to actively waging war on the banks
the second you implement any sort of policy that actually helps the uk the banks will just cause a crash and then the blame will be pinned on whoever is in office while the actual perpetrators (the banks) go unmentioned
because apparently the banks interests come before national interests these days? and apparently this is just something people have accepted?
apparently its normal for sovereign nations to be subserviant to banks? where banks can dictate the absolute standard of living, quality of life and fiscal relevency of a nation depending on their own interests even at the expense of said nation and its millions of citizens?
this is why I don't partake in politics
and why I laugh at everyone in this general on the daily supporting this politician or that politician
nobody is going to fix the problems in this country because nobody has the balls to stand up to the banks and force them to align with our interests at their own expense
not even farage, in fact, farage is going to be even worse, he's going to work in line with the banks, everyone will get poorer, cozzy livvy will get worse, mortgage rates and interest and whatever else will skyrocket, the only winners in relation to a reform win will be the banks and their multinational stooges they send in as managers of collateral
makes me cringe but laugh simultaneously
this general things its redpilled but its just a bunch of failed normies bloviating over things they have no clue about
>can't see the wood for the trees
if you vote you're a mug, if you support any politician you're a mug

A national care service is a good idea desu. Most people support the idea of an NHS where everyone is a little poorer to prevent the chance of something like cancer or a major accident financially raping your family through no fault of your own, and I think applying the same principle to dementia is a good idea.
Also the current model of public funding for poor people being done through local councils is a bad idea because the shittiest areas tend to have both higher social care costs and more limited means of raising money, which leads to a doom spiral where all other local services have to be cut to pay for it. It should be centralised and publicly owned.

Perhaps we should compare her to Bernie Sanders who is himself a millionaire but on the lower end of the scale. I think he's worth about $3 million which he has made from his salary as a senator, as well as royalties from books he has written.

I would say Rayner and Sanders are both working class, or at least come from working class backgrounds, and are clearly more interested in standing up for the rights of the working class, compared to billionaires like Donald Trump or Nick Candy (funder of Reform).

The left always has been and always will be the side of the unprivileged. That's why it was the left who created the Labour party, for working class people, to fight for better pay and rights. The right always has been and always will be the side of the privileged, trying to keep hold of privileges they possess. That's why those on the right are called "conservatives" - they want to conserve certain aspects of society which give them advantages.

>>534932735
We should tax the rich. One thing we could do is introduce an exit tax, payable when large wealth is taken out of the UK. Other countries do this, but we don't. The reason you keep hearing the idea that taxing the rich isn't possible, and that it would collapse the economy or whatever, is because the rich are telling you that. No shit they don't want higher taxes on themselves.

He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Kier trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

>In October 2024, Phillips rejected Oldham Council's request for an independent public inquiry into historic child abuse by grooming gangs, favouring a locally-run inquiry instead, based on similar approaches in other areas.[95] In January 2025, the decision was criticised by the leader of the opposition, Kemi Badenoch, saying that a national inquiry was "long overdue". Elon Musk posted on X that the decision was "disgraceful" and that she "deserves to be in prison", suggesting the rejection was to shield prime minister Keir Starmer from blame, since he had led the Crown Prosecution Service when the abuse occurred.
>Musk further described Phillips as a "rape genocide apologist".

There's an actual process for changing the leader of the Labour party and they haven't even started it. Streeting, Rayner etc are cowards who expected media pressure and a few resignations to do the job for them and Starmer has called their bluff.

its about 81 needed, we're at 86

from what i can make out however all of the 81 need to be supporting a new leader, they can't just say they want keir to go

so with no single new leader to get behind with many wanting burnham but can't, nothing will happen yet

its not like the tories where they just need to send a letter to their meme committee to trigger a confidence vote and then leadership election....

you can use contactless now, but the smart card has been available since before burnham

the buses are now under control too now, but not much has changed there, the bus cap applied nationally anyway for a bit and its pretty much run by similar private companies, just contracted out

much of the ticketing shit was coming in anyway under what was gmpte now tfgm.... so the only thing that changed was 'nationalise' the buses then franchise them out, but even before that, the local transport network (tfgm) still offered ticketing across it all.... its just evolved from cards/paper to contactless... but thats really a natural evolution of technology

depends how its done

rail is easy because its franchised from the government so you just let that expire, network rail has been government run for ages anyway

water is a shitshow for the reasons you mentioned... they haven't invested so it needs huge amounts spent on it, you don't want to be taking on that liability whilst paying them billions to take them over

you could simply take them, but then governments simply seizing private companies will cause a huge issue in the markets bigger than truss - no cunt would invest in anything here

2009 apparently: https://www.buzzfeed.com/emilyashton/casting-the-net-farron-wide

>Farron also cleared up some confusion on Twitter over a series of photographs that recently surfaced of him holding milk. After BuzzFeed News showed him one such picture, he became deadly serious as he explained they were taken around 2009 when he was the party's environment spokesperson.

>"It's basically me looking glum with a whole load of bottles of milk," he said. "These are a load of councillors and parliamentary candidates having their photograph taken with me looking disappointed about the milk price frankly. This is a really serious issue. It's disappointing that people think it's funny, as the problem's not gone away.

."I do look a bit ridiculous but the problem is in Britain that 90% of people have never met a dairy farmer. We will walk down one aisle in Waitrose and feel self-righteous as we buy Fairtrade coffee from Colombia but in the next aisle we'll buy milk from Cumbria ripped out of the hands of a farmer who's been exploited far worse than you can imagine."
