THATS THE DEAL BROTHER
>>
AEW
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has officially signed a new multi-year multimedia rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but according to sources, the deal is valued at upwards of $150 million per year when all elements are taken into account. Under the new deal, AEW shows “Dynamite” and “Collision” will remain on TBS and TNT respectively. But for the first time since its launch in 2019, AEW programming will stream live on Max simultaneously for U.S. subscribers and will be available to stream on-demand starting in January 2025.

“We are honored to announce the extension of our incredible partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery,” said AEW CEO, GM and head of creative Tony Khan. “This extension continues the tradition of iconic wrestling events broadcast on TBS and TNT, while also establishing a new legacy for AEW through weekly live streams on Max for years to come. We thank David Zaslav, Kathleen Finch and everyone at WBD for their tireless support of All Elite Wrestling since its inception, as well as the AEW fans, talent and staff that helped make this possible.”

The deal also includes enhanced distribution rights across social media as well as potential new AEW programming on linear and digital platforms. Furthermore, AEW live pay-per-views will be available on Max later in 2025 at a discounted price per event, with all marketing and promotions of those events exclusively centered on Max.

“Tony Khan and the entire AEW team have been incredible partners, and we are thrilled to strike this expanded agreement to deliver amazing new AEW content and stories to TNT and TBS, as well as bring the thrilling live action to Max for the first time,” said Kathleen Finch, chairman and CEO of US Networks for Warner Bros. Discovery. “We are focused on creating fresh and authentic experiences for AEW’s passionate and engaged fanbase while also introducing them to our growing lineup of high-action sports and entertainment at TNT and beyond.”

AEW’s flagship show, “Dynamite,” debuted on TNT in October 2019. The show currently ranks as Wednesday’s number one cable entertainment series among adults 18-49. “Collision” is currently in the top five of in its Saturday timeslot among both adults 18-49 and men 18-49.

AEW’s current roster includes champions Bryan Danielson, Mariah May, Mercedes Moné, tag team The Young Bucks, Will Ospreay, Jack Perry, Wheeler Yuta, Pac, Claudio Castagnoli, and Kazuchika Okada.

I do think WBD overpaid for this. NXT gets within 100k viewers of them, has beaten them some weeks and is getting around $25 million. Sure, there's two shows here which means AEW should get more but Collision gets a lot less viewers and is clearly not a priority for anyone. Every wrestling promotion is worthless in 2024 without TV and AEW didn't have a lot of other channels to turn to, so WBD had a lot of control here.

I'm curious as to how many years this is for. It wasn't mentioned and it's rather important. I'd assume this is for atleast 3 years but if this was a 10 year deal like WWE got, they'd make a lot more.

Having Max should add some viewers weekly, though we will never know since it's Max and not TV. I'm curious as to what the VOD situation will be. I assume there will be a delay before footage gets up to deter people from not watching live.

Max could be deterrent when it comes to PPV's. If you want to see the show, you will probably have to sub to Max in some fashion, though it's possible you can opt not to sub and pay more. Some people will never subscribe to Max.

Rampage, Ring of Honor and Battle of the Belts were not mentioned. One can assume Rampage is probably gone as those were the rumors anyway. BOTB is such a small and sporadic thing that it may have just not been mentioned. ROH is on Honor Club, but one would also assume it would have been mentioned if it were here.

I'm curious as to what happens to the old episodes of Dark and Elevation. Will they move over to Max or stay on Youtube?

>AEW has a profitable tv deal
Really? How much profit is AEW going to make with this new TV deal?
>>
>>15961393
>How, if cable TV is getting phased out each year?
The assumption you're making is that AEW is a brand on par or level with WWE, or even within striking range of it. It's not. It's not even in striking range of NXT which is literally a wrestling school that gets any and all attention it has because of the WWE branding. Wrestling as a whole is not a major hobby in and of itself. This isn't a company seeing Marvel making movies and going "Oh let's get some comic book IP". To the vast majority of the mainstream "wrestling" is synonymous with WWE and nothing else. AEW is not going to grow as a brand from being on a major network or brand, because it's been on one for 5 years and has done the opposite. The idea that its talent can draw viewers, new or old, has been proven untrue.
>They can very easily report the viewer count for streaming services
They can do alot of things easily, but networks are loathe to give peeks behind the curtain at viewership because they gain nothing from it. Fans will want their show on no matter the viewer count number. Theyre fans. And networks would rather not share viewership numbers when they use them for ad sales. Look at Netflix and how closely they guard their shit. Or Disney and how they manipulate theirs to for spin.
>WWE does PPVs on streaming. They're fine.
Once again conflating WWE with AEW. This has been AEW's issue for its entire existence. This want and need to be validated by comparing itself to something it is not even close to replicating.
>>
>>15961393
>How, if cable TV is getting phased out each year?

It's getting phased out, but it's not gone yet. A lot of people still have cable and if you have cable, you can flip over to see AEW if you want. But when it comes to VOD services, you have to have the specific VOD service to see the show. And if you don't you can't see it.

>They can very easily report the viewer count for streaming services... this isn't hyper advanced technology.

They probably won't. I'd expect the Max number to be a lot lower than the TV number.

>WWE does PPVs on streaming. They're fine. They get massive views still. The affordability pays for itself.

WWE does not charge currently for PPV's except for the Peacock sub. They said AEW PPV's will be offered at a discount here and not the price of a Max sub. I'm thinking you have to have Max + pay for the PPV. And I'm thinking the discount is whatever one month of Max costs.

I do, not everyone is a fat faggot who lives with their whore mother like you. So while I sit on my beautiful grass, you can sit in your shit section 8 housing and use a third of your SSI check to watch AEW on Max. Turn up the volume on your tv to drown out your mothers squeals
>>
>>15961493
The PPV's will air on Max at a discount. My assumption is that the discount is whatever it costs to sub to Max that month. We will see though.

>Having Max should add some viewers weekly, though we will never know since it's Max and not TV. I'm curious as to what the VOD situation will be. I assume there will be a delay before footage gets up to deter people from not watching live.
It says "streaming simultaneously." Delaying the VOD would be counterproductive. People watching on cable have DVRs and don't have to watch live; treating streaming viewers differently would only reduce the incentive for people to sub to Max.
>
>Max could be deterrent when it comes to PPV's. If you want to see the show, you will probably have to sub to Max in some fashion, though it's possible you can opt not to sub and pay more. Some people will never subscribe to Max.
>
The way I read it, PPVs will still be available through cable providers, but will be discounted for Max subscribers. "Exclusively centered on Max," isn't the same as "exclusively available on Max." We already knew Bleacher Report was getting cut out, and this probably means the same for Thriller (formerly Fite). Traditional pay-per-view, though, I would expect to stay, since even WWE does that, despite the Peacock deal and the change in terminology from PPV to PLE.

>>
>>15961643
Comcast gave WWE a sweetheart deal because fucking nobody was subbing to Peacock back then and it was a laughingstock. They were desperate for subscribers.

Max is already in a much, much better position in terms of subscriber base than Peacock was.

All it really says is that WBD will continue to air Dynamite and Collision. Rampage was cancelled. The official press release from WBD had nothing about numbers or total value of the deal. So the $150-170 million numbers seems to be completely made up. And I doubt none of this is guaranteed. It's probably based on Tony's inflated PPV numbers, but at least we have this lolcow around for three more years.

It's very frustrating that there's nowhere to talk about things like this now.
SC and Twitter is full of smarks with no rationality. FAN is a cheerleader. WON forums are cheerleading smarks with no rationality who all pretend to be insiders. This place was always full of shitposts but you'd find intelligent conversation here in big moments.
Now it's console warring and the sane shit memes about rovert or ojama or some other phantom. You people have destroyed this place
