New Japan for instance benefits heavily from the audience filling in the blanks and they run with it. It works for me personally. Niether NOAH or AJPW are doing this. If I wanted to watch for a melodramatic story I'd just watch American wrestling. I prefer when things are somewhat more grounded. I don't care for DG which is probably the closest comp to a WWE you are gonna get in Japan. Maybe I would feel differently if I thought the level of work was top tier instead of being passable.
