Vince should have kept the World Title on Backlund until WrestleMania 11. Backlund was an amazing heel with his schizoid senior citizen gimmick and garnered good heat.It would have made Diesel's world title victory even more meaningful if he won the 1995 Rumble and then beat Backlund at WrestleMania - a true kickstart of the "New Generation Era". Diesel winning the World Title on a fucking house show in seconds is fucking pathetic. It never truly legitimized him as world champion material.
Backlund was right about everything. I am guessing they snuck the title change on a house show to get it on one of Vince's chosen people without the crowd having time to realize what was actually happening or how much of a step down they were getting. Ended up backfiring anyway. Similar to how Rock tried to blitz his way into the main event of WM40, in the moment people actually didn't see the big picture of what was going on, but then afterwards they were like 'hey, wait a minute...'
>>16256746Vince trying to force in a new Hogan at the cost of everyone else has always been so cringe between 1993 and 1996. Luger is a natural heel and Diesel worked best as an ass-kicker. They didn't need to be smiling goody-two-shoes in the likes of Hulkamania Hogan. Luger looked miserable and Diesel lost all that made him cool.
