Eric vs Larry was a literal "Who gets the power, NWO or WCW?" so it was probably built to go "Who would Bret side with/screw over?"I think they thought this would be a draw, instead of immediately putting him into a title picture or having a dream match like modern debuts. I think Eric really over-estimated how much people cared about WCW vs NWO, especially considering how much people liked the NWO more than lame-ass WCW.
I believe there was something in his contract about not participating in the match.
