Too many around here seem to be under the impression that joshis aren't wrestlers and that joshi fans are just here to post pretty pics and goon.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Joshis aren't just wrestlers - many of them are great wrestlers who put on excellent matches.
Share your favorite joshi matches for the doubters. Try to focus on actual matches in this thread - post sexy pics if you want, but, if you do, make sure to include a good match with the wrestler in question. I'll start with one of my favorites (unrelated to pic).

Just because they're perv bait doesn't mean they're not doing stuff that's as good or even better than a lot of the shit being done now.
I think what you said is more an indictment on modern wrestling than joshi itself. Safer styles, stronger emphasis on locker room cohesiveness instead of encouraging the type of legit heat that gets people hurt, etc.
In terms of actual wrestling I'd watch Stardom over most companies right now, and that includes the Big American Two. Shit, it even outshines current New Japan at the moment.

I mostly find it pretty stagnant and missable across the board. I will say though, joshi is probably the last wrestling scene where the indies still regularly outshine the companies owned by mainstream entities. I usually like what I see from Sendai Girls and those Sareee produce shows and whenever a signed talent like Natsupoi shows up on an indie show she usually looks great so I can definitely agree a big problem is stale, heatless house styles holding these girls back
>>
>>16576419
That's fair.
It's like you said, when they show up on American soil they shine brighter than anyone expects. A lot of people had no idea who Hazuki was, but she shows up in a match with Mercedes and they put on a match that many declared one of the best women's matches of the year.
And Hazuki, as good is she is, isn't even the best in the company.

I don't agree with any of that at all. Joshi indies is such a small incestuous scene it's always the same 10 people rotating around every fed wrestling the same matches over and over. Sareee, Saori, Veny, Zones, Iroha, Unagi, Nagisa, etc. The big feds don't have much of a talent rotation either, but at least they have long term rivalries and stories to fall back on, instead of just randomly thrown together matches.

company ace minami toyota taking on the very popular and talented kyoko inoue for the big red belt. This takes place in 95, and while we're definitely in the downturn of joshi's massive mainstream appeal there is still a loud and dedicated fanbase that was drawing reliably better than most of today's shows outside of the one or two annual mega cards. While I think Hokuto/Toyota is Toyota's best match of 95, this is my favorite of the times Toyota and Inoue wrestled

Giulia being cold and not giving a fuck about losing her hair, while Tam is having a nervous breakdown and trying to back out as what she really wanted was to finally beat Giulia, the humiliation of cutting her hair was just a bonus which she realized she didn't actually want to go through with. >>16577180
It's fine. I can't blame western fans for that kind of thinking. For a lot of joshi shit story development is progressed in social media backstage comments/tweets, so just watching the shows won't get you the full picture especially now that we no longer get pre-match promos on house shows. Meanwhile WWE loves to repeat the same plot point every week for a month straight to really hammer in what's going on so there's no real thinking or following along required there.

Crazy how the house show distribution keeps regressing. We got livestreaming (sometimes), but lost subtitles, pre-match promos and 1080p video. And the live 720p is sometimes pixelated trash quality too. At least they started archiving the post-match promos on there.

>I will say though, joshi is probably the last wrestling scene where the indies still regularly outshine the companies owned by mainstream entities
This simply isn't true. The indies literally exist because it matters more, to a lot more people than it should, to be booked like a star than it is to be in a promotion that draws money. It's genuinely a situation where too many people in the scene think 'I'll make way less money in a promotion such as OZ or Diana or Marvelous but I'll feel like a star'. This then creates a situation where the booking of promotions such as Sendai or Marvelous is so moribund and repetitive, because people such as Yuu, Fujimoto, Iroha and Hash cannot bear to not be winning 90% of their matches or go close to 50/50 in a match with their opponent, it makes the product unwatchable to any actually significant amount of people. On a smaller scale look to Prominence where Sera could not bare to have someone such as Suzu or Fujita have a legitimate pin over her so they and the crowd eventually left (most people in today's day and age don't actually want to see the same people constantly winning).

OP here - I actually do too, although the big matches can be great as well. I started getting into Stardom after Dream Queendom 2021 - I was impressed with the big matches but it was actually Fukigen who won me over initially.
Incidentally, the Syuri/Saki saga is one of my favorite current storylines in all of wrestling. It's lowkey but they play off each other so well and I have to think they've been pretty good friends outside kayfabe for a while now.

Saki Kashima is a great worker
>>
>>16601026
Do we watch pro-wrestling primarily for good matches or do we watch it to be entertained (and enjoy some good matches along the way)?
Saki is consistently one of the most entertaining gals on that roster.

entertained
I really dont care about good work rate if im entertained
dont get me wrong a great match is good if you have a story leading up to it that makes you care and someone in the match you like enough to want to see win.
Saki is the best worker in Stardom though she barely wrestles anymore
she is always in Tags and big group matches and barely in any of it to really do much.
Her matches with Sumire with her singing her song were probably some of my favorites of hers.

Underrated. Probably because it isnt from the 2000s and zoomer joshi fans cant watch anything not stardom
>>
>>16601642
kek, I've heard about this and I'm glad I've gotten a chance to see it.
Older Stardom is a vibe. I don't mind Bushiroad Stardom since that's what it was when I started watching three years ago but I like that more intimate feel it used to have.
>>
>>16601680
That plus even some some of us older folks are only getting into it more recently because of Stardom.
I mean, I'm an oldfag and was a teen back in the 90s but just never had much exposure to joshi until three years ago. Which isn't to say it isn't great stuff, but you don't know what you're never exposed to.
>>
>>16601685
there's some better ones out there if you have Stardom world check them out
Saki and Sumire i think had maybe 4-5 matches
it was a fun little feud
Sumire is also a great worker and has even said she hates taking bumps so learned how to work and be entertaining in the ring.
her matches are also worth checking out
sadly she bogged herself and didnt need to.
>>
>>16601693
This I only got into it because of the pandemic
I have checked out some others like TJPW, Diana, JTO, and Merigold
I just dont have the time to watch multiple wresting shows
>>
>>16601693
Well good thing every major AJW event is on youtube
>>
>>16601746
I might have to start a thread like this one devoted entirely to AJW at some point.

I feel the most emotion from hard hitting matches with a strong story where I'm invested in the players, though I'm not opposed to a few comedy matches per show. So I guess it's a mix of both for me, but I don't think I could sit through a straight up comedy wrestling show. I tried with TJPW a few times and couldn't get into it.

Saki's definitely a great talent though, her smacking the shit out of Thekla was fantastic.
>>
>>16602618
problem with a show thats mainly a comedy show its the same bits over and over again and it wears thin fast
Like I loved the Costume battle Royal back when stardom did it but its great as a once a year thing
wouldnt want to see it every week or month, it would get stale
wish they would bring it back
>>
>>16603069
Yeah, the thing is with Stardom is that I don't think it's really meant for viewers to watch every show available. A lot of those are just house shows for people in attendance. No one is going around watching all the house shows.
But in the US, at least, we're used to regular shows and, if you make them available, those of us who are into a promotion will watch as much as we can if we have the time to do so.
I ain't saying don't do it, but that's a major downside.
>>
>>16603541
I shoot watch all the house shows, mostly as second monitor background noise but I find an entertaining match once in a while.
>>
>>16574646
Mm yum.
>>
>>16603846
Indeed.
Great match to boot.
>>
>>16601693
My entrance was Bull Nakano or else I would have never got into it
>>
>>16604370
Yeah, for me it was the pandemic shutdown. Got tired of pandemic era NJPW. Watched AJPW for a bit (was hard to get into at the time). Bounced off of Noah for some reason (although I like it now). But Stardom clicked pretty quickly so that's what I know.
Sure, maybe it's not as good as old joshi. But I do think it's some of the better wrestling being offered today without going too far off into the indies weeds.
>>
Funny how we've got all this proof that these wrestlers can really go, yet people are complaining about Mayu vs AZM at Wrestle Kingdom despite them both being on the New Japan payroll (Stardom is a full subsidiary now) and are fighting for a New Japan belt created to draw attention to said subsidiary.
Some people just make up their minds to hate a thing and that's that.
>>
>>16603541
I watch every show
I've seen everything from 2011 on up
though I really wish they would just do a once a week show that was focused more on some storylines
They did it so much better with the prematch promos before the match and then subbed in ring promos after
they really had it right from 2017 to 2020
I dont know if Hatman was coming up with the storylines or it was the girls but go back to that.
>>
>>16605911
That's impressive devotion.
I obviously don't know, but I imagine a lot of what they did came from themselves and they probably worked it out with Hatman. From what I've seen of the pre-match promos, they added a lot and, with the subbed ring stuff, it was all *chef's kiss*.
I don't really like commentary in my matches anyway so I'd be glad if we just got the subtitles back. I guess that supposedly adds an expense they can't afford but it's not that hard to add subtitles into a video - I can do it (I add them to webms I make for around here on occasion) and I'm not even an AV guy.

Someone post the 80s Japan joshi pasta so we can move on.
>>
>>16605948
well I had time this was during the pandemic and I was off work for like 18 months so I had time to kill.
So I binge watched a lot of Stardom.
there isn't really much from the 2011-2016 years
>>
Based joshi made me like wrestling again after dropping it for 10+ years
>>
>>16607440
While I doubt these threads had anything to do with that, it's a big part of the reason for them.
Wrestling is in a dire situation. A lot of it right now is pretty crappy. Joshi is one of the few parts that is actually pretty good at the moment. Lots of performers who outperform the majority of their male counterparts and they're charismatic to boot.
So we draw attention to it. Usually by posting sexy pics and whatnot. That's usually just to stoke interest. But a lot of the actual wrestling is good as well, or at least entertaining. It's as worth watching as anything else out there. This particular thread is meant to highlight the wrestling aspect.
There is very watchable wrestling at the moment but most people aren't watching it and the loudest voices are shitting on it. Some of the responses in this thread here highlight that - >>16604744
I used to never give women's wrestling the time of day, personally. Stardom changed that for me, and there's lots of good stuff outside Stardom as well. It's a shame so many people are too closed minded to give it an honest shot.
We take a lot of shit for it but, really, if it introduces something that brings a bit of entertainment into someone's life then it's all worth it from my perspective. We won't convince the haters but there are always silent lurkers.
