One of the factors that made the truly great matches from the past, such as Bret vs Austin at WM 13, was that you were left wondering what was going to happen next. There was an excitement at the end of the match not just for what you saw, but also for what else you might see as the story progressed and/or the characters involved matured and changed. In the case of Bret v Austin, it was a double turn so there were a lot of possibilities, to be fair, but the same can be said for every great match.
