Tourist here.I am currently watching "The queen of villans" (a drama about womens wrestling in a ~1980s japan) on Netflix, and I gotta' be honest. I am really confused. There is a lot of scenes where the characters get genuinely angry and attack at each other, like, outside the ring. Isn't wrestling theater? Or am i missing something as a baka-gaijin?And this is probably me just having absolutely no idea how wrestling works. But how come they all take each match so seriously? Isn't the whole point to dramatize the match for the audience? To build up characters? Or is there actually rules to it, outside of the obvious, don't *actually* hurt the other wrestlers.There are a couple of scenes, where a match decides who will retire or not. But isn't that a bit pointless, unless you actually want out of the business?Now, I know the show is just a stupid drama. And the show is probably played up. But I am assuming it is some-what of a realistic depiction of Japanese wrestling. Or maybe not?I know a little about american wrestling, I know even less about japanese.
