was the reign of terror really that bad?
>>
No
>>
I wouldn't know, I stopped watching for a decade because of this doofus and his butt buddies
>>
>>16743782
>starting off with awarded title, not winning it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBfxm82M6uo

afraid so
>>
>>16743782
King of kings, baby
*Bows down*
>>
>>16743782
I'm partly convinced he books the title reigns he has in an effort to mitigate the perception of his own title reigns. Because yeah that shit seemed like nothing compared to that Roman bullshit
>>
>>16743782
People in wrestling just like to bitch their golden boy isn't champion
Hogan and Cena were top guys for like a decade and nobody calls it a "reign or terror"
Most people say about either is CENAWINSLOL
>>
>>16744918
>Hogan and Cena were top guys for like a decade and nobody calls it a "reign or terror"
Yeah, and here's the elephant in the room about that.
Hogan drew dimes. Cena drew dimes (not from me, but he drew them).
HHH actively drove viewers away. Cena did too, but as I said he also brought in new and different fans to make up for that. Hunter didn't.
>>
>>16743782
If Batista was going to be "the guy" to end HHH's run, then Hunter should have held the belt for 3 years straight instead of all the 1 month reigns for the other guys that happened here and there. The fact that RVD didn't win it in 02 is a travesty
>>
Only Armageddon 02 to Unforgiven 03. He really needed to drop the title somewhere in there (probably Booker at WM19). Even that reign was shorter than Batista's first reign.
>>
>>16743782
So you didn’t watch the wrestling with wregret video?
>>
>>16743782
ratings literally took a dive when he was RAW's main character, while smackdown remained relatively steady
>>
>>16745278
No way.
Shawn had just come back.
Goldberg was already pushing it losing at SummerSlam.
Benoit's coronation was inevitable.
Randy's was too erase Brock's record.

Maybe Shawn's reign could go. The rest were big moments in history. I think he even could have lost between Shawn and Goldberg. To Steiner or Booker.

Batista was three years in the making. Even though it was only four months it felt like a passing of the torch.
>>
>>16743782
Yes.
>>
>>16743782
No, it was worse
>>
>>16743782
yes. it was awful. and then followed up with the lol cena wins era. i stopped watching until 2012
>>
I'd probably be able to forgive him beating all the smark favorites if it wasn't for the feuds with Nash and Steiner. I also recall him vacating the title for some reason and then winning it back. Can't imagine why you would do that with a heel other than to serve their ego.
>>
If you were 13-14 like I was then it was the worst time in all of wrestling, I fucking hated HHH and I hated Randy Orton too. But he did get Batista over with me so in retrospect I appreciate that. Also there was no one else who could have done it at the time.
>>
>>16743782
We started the show like this every single week
https://youtu.be/p7NVps74DTA
>>
>>16745568
Feud with Nash + their HIAC match wasn't bad. The steiner stuff was definitely horrid, Steiner himself was over the hill and couldn't cut any of his good heel promos, HKYKSHH was injured too
>>
>>16743921
Based. Fuck these boring ass 5-month 64-man tournaments to crown an innuagural champion.
>>
Triple H after 2005 was worse than the reign of terror. This dude would randomly beat cena during the supercena run for absolutely no storyline payoff just to prove he could. Evolution was at least a good storyline
>>
>>16743782
Afraid so
>>
>>16745631
The Smackdown Reign of Terror as WWE champion was far worse.
>>
Hhh put over Benoit, Bautista, cena, & randy. But alot of AA fans saw him as midcard and tuned out.
>>
Rock & SCSA retired, & brock left. So vince used hhh as a mega heel to create new baby face stars. It worked but it hurt the company & hhh reputation.
>>
>>16745278
Pointless. Big heel title runs can have breaks where they lose it for a month or so without it really derailing things. If anything that's exactly what they should have done with Roman's. Edge, Drew, Sami. All guys who should have won the belt off him across those 1000 days or whatever it was. Didn't do Cody any favors that they didn't. You're right about Van Dam being someone who should've won it off Triple H back then even if it was just briefly
Also to your point Batista wasn't planned as being the guy to take it off Triple H anywhere nearly as far back as that. Orton was poised to be the face of the whole company at one point. That derailed as I'm sure you know and Batista started picking up steam and that all fell together as nicely as it did
>>
>>16743782
Yes. He was terrible at everything except cozying up to those with power.
>>
>>16743782
It doesn't even come close to as bad as John Cena's endless reign.
>>
Moreso than the title reigns, the RoT for me is more about the very boring 13-minute promos to start every other Raw for 3 whole years where he basically said the same shit in 50 different ways. Looking back it wasn't terrible because Smackdown was usually much better every week. 02-04 Smackdown had better matches and a more free-for-all atmosphere that wasn't bogged down by "authority figures". Much better PPVs as well. Hell, even within dual-brand PPVs, Smackdown was better (see the HHH/Steiner shitshow at RR 03 - the very next v match was Angle/Benoit).
>>
>>16743782
Are you talking about his reign of terror as a wrestler or as a booker? The answer to both is a resounding yes
>>
yes
>>
>>16743782
>was the reign of terror really that bad?
no, it was even worse
>>
>>16745607
>people should just be handed titles for nothing
E-sloppers really will defend anything
>>
>>16747342
Wrestling is fake, lil tranny. They don't actually win titles. They all just get handed them.
>>
>>16747353
thank you for doubling down, further illustrating my point
>>
>>16747360
You don't have a point though

Gaych's reign is what killed wrestling for me back in the day.
There was just no point in watching any of his matches or segments, so I just started tuning them out. Eventually I just turned the show off entirely.

wwe died a slow painful death week after week for years
felt like an eternity
really bad memories of that whole era
just a shitshow
>>
Wasn't watching at the time since the botched invasion turned me off WWE for nearly a decade
>>
>>16746010
>didn't do cody any favors that Sami and edge didn't get pointless mini runs
That's some retarded shit right there
>>
>>16747957
there was that time that Goldust got electrocuted and it gave him Tourette Syndrome, that was pretty kino
>>
>>16743782
yeah it sucked, it was just extremely boring and one-note. my incentive to watch evaporated and then I stopped watching wrestling for 15 years
>>
>>16743782
no not really I hardly noticed or cared at the time coz there was a lot going on during that era, it's just revisionism from people who either didn't watch it or want to be youtubers
>>
>>16745278
I liked rvd but he never should've been world champ at the time, with all the people they had they should've made scott Steiner the face of the company and taken him back to the big bad booty daddy character from wcw it's a shame he was injured
but seriously rvd should never have been world champ like Jeff Hardy they were both too small and too athletic, better as IC champs like Jericho
>>
>>16749199
>size queen
disregarded
>>
>>16749178
No, I watched at the time, and Paul making himself the center of everything made the product unwatchable.
>ME AND MY FRIEND MARK, WE'RE GONNA STOP WATCHING
and they did, because of him

haitch held the title because he looks like a champion, he's consistent, people love him just as much as they hate him, and he's always been a solid worker. from a mark standpoint, i hated him. understanding how the show works as an adult, he made perfect sense. look at the shitters today, half the time they make a new champion, he suffers a brutal twisted nipple injury and is out for 8 months. triple nose was finish matches with torn quads and pecs. he was such a company man he pretty much ruined his health and nearly killed himself for it. taker was the same. you can hate him all you want, but he was always one of "the guys" from a business standpoint.
>>
>>16749342
he's a 5/10 across the board vanilla shitter who politicked his way into a career
>>
>>16749349
>5/10
i won't accept anything but a 7/10 minimum. if we're just talking about wrestling quality, he was in the top 10 at the time. as an unabashed shitter that love "boring" wrestling moves, i'll take a hunner suplex over every single flip in wrestling any day of the week.

did you watch tna instead? because tna was shit I don't know how anyone enjoyed that it was like temu wrestling, I was about 14 at the time iirc so that whole era 2002-2008 was the last time I enjoyed wrestling...I hated HHH same with Kurt Angle and JBL but because they were good villains, two guys that made me not want to watch when they were champ was Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, but there was other stuff on the show to enjoy like bra an panties matches, dawn Marie and torries lesbian affair, and all the fun stuff like baby punting, lesbian squashing etc.
>>
>>16749502
No, I stopped watching wrestling except for Botchamania, until AEW came along and reignited my passion.
>>
>>16749222
not true I liked Austin and he was small
>>
>>16749505
so when did you start HRT?
>>
>>16749521
>literally can't stop thinking about trannies
just come out of the closet already
>>
>>16743782
Yes. It was every bit as repetitive and predictable as CENAWINSLOL a few years later, but every match also ended in some kind of dirty finish or interference (especially once Evolution got started). Every episode of Raw opened with Triple H doing these boring, repetitive, 20 minute long promos about THIS BUSINESS. Then each month, a new face would step up to feud with Triple H for a few weeks and inevitably lose at the next PPV, then just disappear back down to the midcard. He tore through so much of the roster, they were seriously having him feud with Bubba Ray Dudley at one point.
>>
>>16749546
umad
>>
>>16743972
I've thought the same thing. Reign of Terror Triple H seems like nothing in comparison to Roman's years long reign of defending the belt once every 3 months and retaining via interference, and only ever appearing on TV once a month to cut the same "Acknowledge Me" promo over and over.
>>
cenas was worse
