That’s a pretty shit opinion. There existed actual “Punk” music, before they even called it that. Underground Rock music you could say that became progressively faster, noisier and simpler. It was co-opted pretty early on by some tastemakers and fashionistas. But even after that there were plenty of real ones. The whole first wave of Hardcore bands referred to themselves as Punk. Bad Brains, Black Flag, Cro-Mags. I can’t think of a less manufactured movement. A pure organic happening of young people that anyone born post-internet couldn’t even process. Hip-Hop is similar in that both genres occupied a specific niche and role in their culture and were basically free from the constraints of pleasing labels, even pleasing fans really. Either you liked it or you didn’t and no one seriously thought they would ever make any kind of money. What became of those genres you could say was manufactured but labels will create plants for anything they think has a chance at drawing a dime and they used to care about getting everyone’s cash. You couldn’t opt out, they would find something to sell you.

CM Punk isn’t even into Punk and never really was. At most he was a mall punk during that big explosion in the mid-late 90’s starting with Green Day and Offspring and peaking with Blink-182. Straight Edge culture was Hardcore/Punk culture exclusively and Phil was into that because he hated his daddy and brother. The Pepsi tattoo is a rig on the Coca-Cola one the guy from Minor Threat has.

This is Soft Drink Phil. CM Punk died when he signed that latest WWE contract. Call it extreme. Call it PDS. But it's true

>CM Punk isn’t even into Punk and never really was
Let's not stoop to revisionist history. He used AFI for his theme, has a Bouncing Souls and Op Ivy tattoo, and one of his closest friends is Lars Frederiksen. He was about it. He just got older and like most older punks sadly began to start losing touch of what he stood for
>>
>>16747469
Besides Bouncing Soles who were too dimeless to ever get over because they are Jersey shit lords that’s the shopping mall babbies first Punk TM starter kit. Rancid was ever present on alternative rock radio in the 90’s, sold millions of records and was signed to one of the biggest record labels in the world after their original deal was up. Op Ivy was just Rancid with more Ska and no Lars. No one has ever listened to them, they just got the stickers of the little Ska-man or a patch for their Jansport back pack. The same way whites would draw a Wu-Tang logo to pretend they were down with rap or middle schoolers drew the skater logo on their 5 star binder. in Phil’s case a shitty tattoo. AFI is literally Hot Topic the Band 1.0

I’m not saying you have to listen to the same music you did as a kid. Or that it even really matters. The Punk thing is just a gimmick for him is my point. No one has ever seen this guy at an actual show. There are pictures of him going to see Paramore and shit like that at Soldier Field but I guarantee not one exists of him at Fireside Bowl nor was he ever seen there. But he’s not even really from Chicago so I wouldn’t expect that. He was just really into sXe stuff is what it seems like. Which is/was an insufferable sub culture. I don’t mind him as a wrestler and a Punk gimmick is no sillier than blacks who throw cereal or a zombie mortician.

>Bouncing Souls were to unheard of so they're not real punk
>Rancid was too popular so they're not real punk
Ah I see we've found the ever-present dickhead of punk rock gatekeeping in these walls of seethe. Thank you so much for deciding for the rest of us all what is and isn't punk rock. Because we all know nothing is more punk rock than a highly judgmental false sense of superiority

i want to bash your fucking skull in

Hey poser, there is no such think as a real punk, just posers and faggots like you
>>
>>16744248
He grew up

>>16748371
He means he got a clue. Punk rock is as big of a work as pro wrestling. You talked about that band Rancid. You know this song?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_IjmQjCEUI
That is the entirety of "punk" in a nutshell. Kids from well-off families pretending to be something they're not in order to fit in.
>>
>>16748505
The realest punks you will ever meet are gutter punks and you never want to be around a gutter punk.

What if I am one? What if I've slept on a hard tile floor for the past like 6 years and speak from experience?
>>
>>16744248
That's a gimmick my dude. This Punk thing is a gimmick for Phil Brooks just like being a Mortitian for Mark Calloway or a Rapper was for John Cena. You don't know the real Phil Brooks because you are not his friend or co-worker.
