I think it's because when you watch it back with more knowledge of wrestling, you realize they're pretty self indulgent because it's two friends having long matches with lots of finisher spam trying to make it into an epic. But I guarantee that at the time no kid watching this rivalry knew any of that shit and just thought it was based
