For me, it's this boring bland midcarder:>Absolute failure and non-draw as champ>20-year career, maybe 5 good promos>Most WWF main eventers refused to put over his finisher>Completely exposed when he went to WCW
Zoomer here.Did Vince even have anyone else who could be the top babyface at the time? Taker's gimmick wasn't really appropriate, Sid was inconsistent because of softball, Razor we all saw his issues later, Nash was too new in WWF.Like was even anyone around Bret's age and didn't have the steroid scandal stink on him he could have pushed at the time? Not shitting on Bret I'm just curious really.
>>16767293You can't really say as you never know who's going to get over until they start to get pushed. One of the reasons I think people liked the Attitude Era so much was that they had so many stars that they didn't need one guy to carry the company. You can argue that Austin was the face of the company bsck then, but he didn't spend that long in total with the title. His longest reign was under six months, and that was as a heel after WM 17.
>>16767248sounds like you're describing cody
>>16768439>You can argue that Austin was the face of the company bsck then, but he didn't spend that long in total with the title. His longest reign was under six months, and that was as a heel after WM 17.The belt is a prop, nothing more. Which is another reason why the AE was so successful because they treated it as such. Austin didn't need a belt to be the main attraction.
>>16767248>Made Shawn at WM12>Made Austin at WM13>Made Vince at Montreal>Made Nash and Hall leave for WCW, effectively creating the NWO>Protected The Rock from the kliq>Exposed Shawn for being a gay magazine posing homo Bret single handedly created the AE and the biggest boom period in history making him fuck off for nearly half a decade
>>16767248Bret is the GOAT and you need to grow up and watch more wrestling if you disagree.
>>16768461Based as fuck
>>16768457I agree, and often, a prop used to push those who can't get over without it. Much as I don't like him, Punk can make the fans care about him without a belt.
>>16767248He sounds like a complete tool in any and all interviews. He had talent, but his ego eclipsed that easily. And he fell apart without Vince's booking.Case in point would be what he tried in WWA.
>>16767248>>Absolute failure and non-draw as champwrong as fuck. Bret was the only real draw in WWE's worst era. He made Austin, he made Shawn. Shawn failed tremendously on top until Bret came back. Diesel failed on top. Bret was the only one who could draw and/or create stars.>>20-year career, maybe 5 good promosHe wasn't great on the mic but he had great charisma, look, and was the GOAT in the ring. Made everyone look amazing. And his good promos are some of the best.>>Most WWF main eventers refused to put over his finisherWhat the fuck is this complaint how stupid>>Completely exposed when he went to WCWWCW was just a pissant company this isn't Bret's fault. They wasted a ton of talent.
>>16767248
it was a gay magazine i'm afraid
>>16767248Benoit. Boring vanilla midget charisma vacuum.
>>16767248Thankfully the Hulkster was there to get the title, else this shitter would have given the title to the japs.
>Shawn Michaels>hhh>cm punk>The hardy boys>Edge>Bray Wyatt>Sami Zayn>Seth rollins
Brock LesnarNever drew in WWENever cut a good promoNever had a 5 star matchHe does the simplest thing and people go nuts
>>16767248Bret has one of the most dimes looks of all time. Top 5 for sure.
>>16767248Log off and get back to re-writing your old storylines for NXT talent, Shawn
>>16767248>>Absolute failure and non-draw as champI agree. He was boring. Don't care about how well he did or didn't draw.>>20-year career, maybe 5 good promosAbsolutely. He should be considered WOAT on the mic, so much of his shit was lame.>>Most WWF main eventers refused to put over his finisherNever heard about this.>>Completely exposed when he went to WCWDisagree, Bischof admits to not having any plans for Bret and only wanted him to spite Vince. But Bret definitely floundered when the machine was behind him. He was really good in the ring, but he was fucking boring to watch. It's like watching a ZSJ match. Yes it's impressive, but I don't care. On a show where 300lb guys are throwing each other around, Flippy-do's are doing insane high flying, hardcore shitters are braining themselves with everything not nailed down, Bret sticks out as a piss break. Smarks like to praise his psychology, but I doubt they could explain it without parroting what others have said.I think he's also a huge narcissist. He only ever talks about himself. Admits to getting worked into a shoot over mark shit like losing in Canada. Blames his retirement on Goldberg, even though he smashed his own head on the ground in that match doing the figure-four around the ring post. Then decided to wrestle for a few more weeks with serious concussions for no reason. Not shit, but the most overrated wrestler of all time.
Vince wanted him to do some cowboy gimmick
>>16769343>the hardy boys>edgeSup Christian?
>>16769343Disagree with HBK and the Hardy's as a team. As individuals they were shit, but prime team Xtreme was dimes.
Nah Bret is the best. We love the hit man.
>>16770414Girly magazine board
>>16767293perfect, hall, nash if they didnt fuck it up, luger if they didnt fuck it up, macho if they didnt retire him, bulldog, one of the steiners
>>16768487That nigga owes my Dad $200 in. 2001 money. I went with my gf to see WWA in 2001 and Bret no showed. The main event ended up being Road Dogg vs Jeff Jarrett which I wouldn’t have watched in 1995 or 1999 on Raw let alone live. I know now Bret Hart was only going to be the commissioner but look at the poster for the show Bret is in the middle holding the belt what was I supposed to think?
I don't have an anti-smark hater boner for him that some Wolfie had, but for the life of me I will never understand how Eddie Guerrero became so overromanticized, especially by people that are my age that are in the business.I liked the motherfucker. I was heartbroken when he died. I rewatched a lot his career when the Network was a thing and just don't see how this guy was apparently "such a big influence" on fans and the talent. I'm not sure he's in my top 25-30 guys.
>>16770778fuck me that card clears anything you see nowadays
>>16770838It’s worse because originally when I saw the advertisement for the show in the newspaper THIS was advertised. The Ultimate Warrior versus Mr Perfect my 8 year mark favourite vs my 8 year old and 19 year old smark favourite and then…. I guess Perfect and Warrior dropped out. And they wonder why 9/11 happened I could only take so much disappointment
He has the only watchable WWF matches of the 90s. He's no Flair, Dusty, Lawler, Slater, or Murdock. But he wasn't actually bad. Most overrated has to be the rock, awful career, going back to watch any of his shit is so embarrassing.
Hes a nepobaby that gets too much credit because his daddy was famous for having a sex dungeon in his basement
>>16767248>Most overrated wrestler of all time?Either Roman or Dwayne, depending on from which angle you look at it.If by "overrated" you mean "overpushed", its Roman no doubt, most overpushed wrestler of all time. I don´t think there is another wrestler with a bigger gap between booking and talent. If by "overrated" you mean "people give it too much undeserving praise", its Dwayne. I have never been able to see whatever people see in him. His "godly" promos are just tired catch phrases + cheap pops + middle school insults. His ring work is nothing to look at (his punches are some of the most ridiculous ones in the entire industry), and don´t even make me begin with how awful his movies are. Austin was always the superior AE star.
>>16770778yeah that was fucking bullshit. i remember that. i ordered that PPV and i'm still kinda pissed about it. one of the worst PPVs I ordered. it did make me a lot more careful about buying PPVs thoyeah that fucking shit card headlined by Road Dogg and Jeff Jarrett was an actual PPV that i think probably cost about as much as a WWF PPV would've cost in 2001. ridiculous.
>>16769418I liked his burt angle matches
>>16767248>Most overrated wrestler of all time?I r8 Bret. He may not have been the biggest draw, and he may have been a whine-assing little leaf faggot, but he was extremely popular and he knew the in-ring side of the biz like no one else. His biggest L was being salty over having to do business with the Hulkster. Hogan was just a bigger draw and he couldn't accept that.
>>16768461This. Bret literally had so sacrifice himself for the sake of the business. >>16771493>His biggest L was being salty over having to do business with the HulksterHulk and his boyfriend Eric Bischoff ruined the business by killing WCW and handing it to that BBC scat fiend Vince McMahon.
>>16771536No one has done more for the business of professional wrestling than Hulk Hogan. No one. You can seethe, cope and dilate about it all you want, but at the end of the day, it's the objective truth.
>>16771566This, ruining WCW was a good thing.
bret's a solid b+ player. in-ring, he's mogged by flair, funk, regal, bryan, rey mysterio, eddie guerrero and kurt angle. never really a promo guy and only has a few truly great matches in his long career. never a big draw. you can count on him to make lesser wrestlers look good but he's not a guy to carry your company.
>>16771612>ruining WCWafter he made it watchable for a short while, yes
>>16771629>rey mysterio>better than Bret in-ringfuck that flippy midget, now there's a guy who's over rated. literally no better than psychosis or juventud or a thousand other indistinguishable masked mexican jumping beans. and his kid sucks even worse.
>>16771640He literally needed KWAB and Scott Hall to get over because it wasn't the mid-80s anymore.
>>16771655no one would have given a shit about The Outsiders without Hollywood Hulk Hogan and we all know it
>>16771657That's fucking bullshit and you know it. The Outsiders were already getting massive attention in the first place without Hogan because they had a great heel angle.
