The year leading up to MJF winning the belt, he only wrestled 9 times. Then Tony puts the belt on him and he completely shit the bed. Suddenly people realized he can't sell for shit, his finisher sucks, he cuts the same promo over and over, but Tony just kept doubling down and wouldn't take the belt off him, which just made things worse. Then he kept doing comedy bullshit with Adam Cole that nobody wanted to see, and the AEW belt became a total after thought. Then that Devil storyline was the final nail in the coffin.
