I'm holding hope that Ren Ayabe and Talos can win the tournament. I think it's too soon to do another Havoc vs Havoc match. Only real use for it would be if Xyon and Odyssey are going back to WWE and AJPW needs to quickly get the belts on someone else.

>Sanshiro Takagi’s 2025 DDT Year in Review: A year that resonated both inside and outside of pro wrestling — and what’s needed to make the 30th-anniversary Dome show a reality the year after next…>Only one month remains in the year. It’s time to look back, and for DDT, 2025 was a year in which the promotion fully showcased its unique character to both the wrestling world and the broader public. From the arrival of Kaisei Takechi and appearances by athletes from other fields, to high-profile exchanges with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, the year was full of movement. Even so, the company and its wrestlers never lost their individuality. We spoke with company president Sanshiro Takagi about his reflections on the year and the challenges that lie ahead.>DDT wrapped up its final big match of the year—a highly attended event at Ryogoku Kokugikan—and followed it about a month later with a Korakuen Hall show on January 30. At Ryogoku, Yuki Ueno captured both the KO-D Openweight and DDT Universal championships, placing himself firmly at the top of the promotion. At Korakuen, he successfully defended both belts against Super Sasadango Machine. In the semi-main, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita—who competes across three promotions: New Japan, AEW, and DDT—defeated Shinya Aoki. Before that, MAO & Kanon retained the tag titles. Altogether, it was a show that demonstrated how fully the younger generation now leads the promotion.>This past year—really, these past several years—DDT has undergone an exceptionally smooth generational shift. The fact that Takeshita, now the IWGP champion and one of the faces of the entire professional wrestling world, was KO-D champion nine years ago at just 22 speaks for itself. “Ueno, MAO, and Chris are our front-line stars now. At the same time, the next generation—people like Takeshi Masada, Yuya Koroku, and TO-Y—are all rising together. It’s been a really good generational transition.
>>19399354>On the management side, Akito fully stepping in has significantly reduced my workload. I was out injured from July last year for a year and four months (I’ve since returned), and being able to focus on management during that time was huge.” DDT Vice President of CyberFight, Sanshiro Takagi, spoke with a clear sense of fulfillment as he looked back on the year.>With the generational shift succeeding both in and out of the ring, attendance—centered on Korakuen Hall—remained strong and stable throughout the year. “We don’t announce attendance numbers now, but from January onward there were almost no shows at Korakuen that didn’t fill up. Maybe not every single one, but about 90% were packed. And not just Tokyo—regional shows as well.” Looking at the Korakuen crowds, it’s clear that DDT has cultivated a new audience distinct from traditional pro-wrestling fanbases, with women making up a large portion. Takagi analyzes the reasons like this:>“This year, DDT had many opportunities to look outward. We had people from completely different fields enter pro wrestling—Kaisei Takechi from LDH, Kumadori from the dance performance group O-MENZ, Haruto Sakuraba the actor, and others. Thanks to them, our stories didn’t end within the wrestling world; we were constantly generating topics that reached outside audiences. And we were successful in drawing in people who previously had no connection to pro wrestling.”>DDT has always prided itself on its strong entertainment flavor, but things accelerated when Takechi—who debuted in wrestling last year—officially joined the promotion in June. In January, he made his first appearance for another organization at New Japan’s House of Torture show. That became a springboard, and he even secured a spot on New Japan’s January 4 Tokyo Dome card for next year.
>>19399362>It may be premature to draw conclusions based on that alone, but one could say that New Japan—the industry’s largest promotion—has recognized Takechi’s value within the pro-wrestling world.>And it wasn’t just Takechi; looking back on DDT’s 2025, what stands out is the active exchange with New Japan. Not long ago, the two companies had a period with virtually no interaction, but now wrestlers from both sides regularly go back and forth as if that gap never existed.>“The June interpromotional match (Sasadango vs. Toru Yano) let us attract the attention of New Japan fans as well. It wasn’t exactly a culmination of ten years of bad blood between Tanahashi and DDT, but it was a show that settled a lot of things that had remained unsaid. Then in August, Dino’s singles match made me think, ‘Pro wrestling really is something you follow over a long time.’ While looking outward, we also managed to create something that resonated deeply with the core wrestling fans.”>Beyond New Japan, Tetsuya Endo, from the same generation as Takeshita, spent this past year wrestling in NOAH. True to DDT’s philosophy of “listening to what the wrestlers want,” many of the promotion’s key players have been able to demonstrate their abilities in various places. “Basically, we’ve never had an NG policy—if we get an offer, we accept it as long as the schedule works and the wrestler wants to do it. Even with that openness, DDT hasn’t lost its uniqueness. This was a year where each wrestler’s creativity was fully on display.”>Among DDT’s many outward-facing storylines this year, one of the most memorable was MAO’s first appearance in New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors. MAO had long dreamed of participating, and that dream finally came true—and as Takagi says, he showed his full personality. “I was watching MAO’s matches with my heart in my throat every time (laughs). I kept thinking, ‘Is he going to get in trouble for doing that?’ But hey, New Japan were the ones who invited him…
>>19399372>It really showed me how open-minded today’s New Japan fans are. They enjoyed what he did, and MAO delivered results too—finishing tied for first in his block.”>It wasn’t just the interpromotional match, the Dino–Tanahashi singles bout, or MAO in Super Juniors. Wrestlers like Kazuki Hirata and Hiromu Takahashi also factored into this trend—DDT spent the year tying up many loose threads connected to New Japan. “It feels similar to the 2010s. Like we’ve gone back about 15 years. I’m not sure yet whether that’s good or bad, but back then DDT had Young Communication (our young-talent brand), and New Japan had NEVER—also a youth-centered project. Hirata and Hiromu come from that era, and what we were doing back then is finally bearing fruit now.”>For long-time fans, the payoff of old storylines is one of pro wrestling’s great pleasures. DDT offered plenty of that this year—while also planting seeds for the future. “In the D-GENERATIONS shows, we had New Japan wrestlers join us. Something new is starting to form there. Wrestling has stories that age and mature over time. Right now, I want to create things that people will look back on 10 years from now. D-GENERATIONS wrestlers and New Japan’s Young Lions pushing each other while looking toward the future—that’s an easy narrative for people to understand.”>This year’s DDT managed to show both the payoff of the past and the foreshadowing of the future. And one such future goal is the Tokyo Dome show that Yuki Ueno, now the face of DDT, has spoken aloud. It’s a dream Takagi himself has long proclaimed; in June 2017, he even achieved a one-match empty-arena bout there against Minoru Suzuki. But holding a full event at the Dome with fans remains an unfulfilled dream. “I kept saying ‘Dome, Dome’ throughout my 40s. Joining the CyberFight group was partly for that. There was a time when I was incredibly hungry, aiming upward.
>>19399390>Now that I’m 55, if we’re truly going to do a Dome show, there’s much more we need to accomplish. For example, our (Jan. 3) Ryogoku show—we needed to sell it out completely. We got close to a full house, but we need full advance sellouts.”>Outside of New Japan, the last Tokyo Dome show in Japanese pro wrestling was NOAH’s event two years ago for Keiji Muto’s retirement match. More recently, Stardom’s Saya Kamitani has also set the Dome as her goal. Realistically, in today’s Japanese wrestling scene, the promotions with any chance of running the Dome—outside New Japan—are these three: NOAH, Stardom, and DDT. “In Japanese entertainment, the absolute peak is the Tokyo Dome. Artists, idols, pro sports—they all aim for it. It’s the clearest goal. By saying it out loud, each field—and the entire industry—gets energized.”>For Takagi, holding a DDT Tokyo Dome show has been a long-held ambition. But now, with extensive experience not only as a wrestler but as an executive, he feels the need to confront the practical realities. With that perspective, he sees the next two years as a critical period. “Two years from now will be our 30th anniversary. We still have time. Whether we actually run the Dome for the 30th anniversary, or whether we use that time to build the foundation toward a Dome show—either way, I’m sure not only the wrestlers but the staff feel the same desire. But if we’re going to do it, we need one or two more major steps. And I’m confident we can put those pieces in place next year and the year after.”>Laying the groundwork for the Dome. Takagi already clearly sees the challenges for next year, and this year’s pro-wrestling landscape offered a big clue. “I want to increase our media exposure—especially on terrestrial television. Even though young people are drifting away from TV, many wrestling fans are older, and in regional areas terrestrial TV is still widely watched.
Lol
>>19399398>Teens use social media, but the majority of people posting there are from older generations, and those people do watch terrestrial TV. We need both fronts.” This year in pro wrestling, Stardom’s Saya Kamitani dramatically increased her name recognition through appearances on a major TV program. With that example in mind, Takagi states his goal for next year: “Kamitani created a huge impact as a season regular on a terrestrial TV show. I want DDT to create something like that as well. I’d like to set that as one of DDT’s objectives.” DDT succeeded this year at drawing in audiences from outside the wrestling world, but next year the goal is to go further—for wrestlers to step outward from pro wrestling into the mainstream. “Kamitani gave us a great hint. Terrestrial TV is still viable. That’s our goal from next year onward—the male version of what Kamitani did, the DDT version of it. I think we already have people close to that level. Takechi, for example, is already appearing in mainstream media and is someone who can reach the wider public.”>In 2025, DDT saw results both from within and outside the wrestling world. And as the leader of the company, Takagi is already looking beyond that toward what comes next.
>>19399409While not everything Takagi tries to get DDT noticed works I do respect the fact he thinks outside of the box to try to get people interested in the promotion.
>“I was watching MAO’s matches with my heart in my throat every time (laughs). >【GLEAT】 Reigning champion El Lindaman passes Japan’s real estate license exam: >“Even things you think you can’t do will produce results if you work hard.”>GLEAT’s G-REX Champion, El Lindaman (30), spoke about the path that led him to passing the Takken (Real Estate Transaction Specialist) exam.>The Takken qualification is a national license certifying expertise in real estate transactions, and over the past five years its pass rate has remained under 20%—a difficult exam. Lindaman passed this October’s test. A “top champion of the promotion who is also a licensed Takken holder” is an extraordinary presence even within the pro wrestling world.>His challenge toward the exam began last year, making this year—his second attempt—the successful one. Asked why he took on the challenge, Lindaman explained: “What I want to tell fans is, ‘If you work hard, things will work out somehow.’ I want to give people courage. I want to raise their motivation. Pro wrestling is the easiest and strongest form for me to convey that, but I felt I could express it in other ways too.” >He continued: “I wanted to show that even in an area I’m not good at—‘studying,’ something I’ve never done seriously—if you try hard at something you think you can’t do, you *can* achieve results.”>Even as he approached the exam, he faced big matches as a wrestler, such as the G-REX title defense against Katsuhiko Nakajima at the October Korakuen show. “From January 2024 onward, I made a rule to study two hours every day. There were days I couldn’t do it, but then I’d make up for it with three hours or more on following days,” he said, describing the steady effort behind his success.>As champion, Lindaman now has a title match scheduled against his next challenger, TJP (30th, Shinjuku FACE). But he has already begun studying for a new qualification: Rental Property Management Specialist. The challenges of the “Takken Champion” continue.https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/369143

I wish they’d told me sooner,” brushing the idea aside.>It feels odd to say this after calling him ourselves, but realistically, if X has been announced, there’s no way the person would admit it outright. >Naito continued feigning ignorance: “I don’t know who BUSHI plans to bring.” >But then added, “But knowing BUSHI, he’ll definitely bring someone worthy of that stage—Nippon Budokan. LTJ fans should expect something big,” essentially guaranteeing that X is himself—or at least a major name.>“I don’t follow everything closely, but I can feel it building heat bit by bit. That much reaches me. That’s probably why BUSHI decided to team with X,” Naito said of NOAH. >“But really, phone interviews… they’ve gotten pretty cheap, haven’t they? Even if we’re far apart. Oh yeah, when I get back to Tokyo…” >At that moment the signal suddenly cut out, ending the call. >With BUSHI and Naito—or rather, X—heading for the New Year’s Day battle, the situation is rapidly escalating.https://x.com/okamotospo/status/1997762183363698923
>>19433715There's a decent chunk of guys in the NOAH roster not affiliated with a faction right now if Naito's recruiting for LTJ from NOAH.

Just finished Night 7 of World's Strongest Tag League. Easily one of the best nights with all great matches. I'm super glad it's Ayabe and Talos in the finals with Xyon and Odyssey. Anzai/Saito vs Miyahara/DBS Jr also was a great match with a lot of storytelling in the ring which is what I love to see in wrestling.
AJPW made it official. Kento's opponent will be Yuma Anzai whether Kento likes it or not. It should be a really good match judging by what happened today.

The winners of the Pro Wrestling Grand Prix (aka. Tokyo Sports Awards) will be announced on 12/17. Tokyo Sports calls the race for MPV "chaotic" and names Hirooki Goto, Zack Sabre Jr., Konosuke Takehita, OZAWA, Yoshiki Inamura, Jun Saito and Kento Miyahara as candidates.

>>19443102I would go with either Goto or Ozawa for most memorable moment of the year. I think it's too soon to call for Inamura. I don't think Saito's reign was too interesting and while Kento's current reign has been booked strong so far I think where that leads will depend on if Anzai beats him on the 31st or not. A part of me suspects Anzai might lose so Kento can put over Honda later though since Anzai's been teasing the idea of challenging for Dragon Gate belts.
>>19443102>no daytime TV clownsthank kami-sama
>>19443102i'd say Takeshita
>>19443302As much as i can like Takeshita, i get this comment >I think he's probably the strongest player of his generation, but for me, he's not the kind of player that makes me go to see him. Also, his way of speaking on the microphone is really bothering me.I think Kento Miyahara, Goto and OZAWA are good choices. I hope for the next year, since he's aiming to bring DDT to the dome, Ueno will be nominated. This year he worked his ass off but it's not enough.

>>19450253after the trainee dying, yuma driving license i guess this is nothing
>>19450445He and another NOAH trainee groped a woman. The charges were later dropped and he claims that he and woman talked it out and he officially apologized to her but NOAH still dropped him and he's been stuck working Mexican indies until now. I guess AJPW is trying to look at this in a similar way to bringing in Odyssey but with Odyssey I suspect the claims his ex-wife made are probably bull while in this case Yano definitely did do it but I guess AJPW is wanting to offer him a chance at redemption. He is only 25 and has potential so I can understand why AJPW is taking the risk but with a dead trainee and Yuma's driving adventure this won't be the best PR for them.
>>19451407>but with a dead trainee and Yuma's driving adventure this won't be the best PR for themRest assured that japanese are the worst bootlikers ever when they are fan of someone/something. AJPW is handling really serious stuff like an indie promotion but AJPW fans seems too loyal to question those choices,
>>19451913I guess to Yano's advantage he is still wrestling and AJPW is giving him one chance. Seems Kinya Okada, the other trainee just completely disappeared after so I guess he got blacklisted harder.

Got a bit of a late start but finished the last night of World's Strongest Tag League. I feel like this one showed a lot of what I'm loving about AJPW right now. Solid set of young guys, solid set of veterans like Sekimoto and Shiozaki who can still go, the Dragon Gate friendship is bringing in great talent like Kikuta, and a lot of solid stories and booking choices are moving forward. These last few months have been really great out of AJPW. My only real gripe is I hope they tone down the amount of comedy matches a hair and I think they need to figure something out about Hokuto-gun because I feel like the stable is huge and at this point I think Omori might be starting to outgrow the comedy gimmick. Also if every show could have the same camera work as the Korakuen Hall shows I'd be really happy. Still getting Ashino vs Sekimoto, Anzai vs Kikuta, Miyahara vs Honda, and another round between Ayabe/Talos vs Xyon/Odyssey are great things to look forward to.
