Japanese love the kind of story they wrote for Wolf debut match, even if he has zero presence or charisma they would had clapped for him for the stupidest move.
I think EVIL did an incredible job and he's the one who should get the praise for selling Wolf first match.

ATTENTION: THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

To all new /njpw/ posters checking out the thread after Wrestle Kingdom, please BE ADVISED. We have a SCHIZO in the thread who is known as the "Grimposting Seether" who does nothing but post about how 'grim' and 'bad' NJPW is. He hates everyone on the roster, hates everything, will shit on things even if they're obviously well-received, and even was dishonest enough to say selling out the Tokyo Dome for the first time in 20 years was "actually a bad thing."

He has already posted multiple times ITT: >>19619812
>>19619854
and he will continue to spam it forever.

The reality: he isn't even a fan of male wrestling at all but is a disgruntled joshipedo who hates Bushiroad because he's a TJPW fag.

>>
>>19619867
I can remember the details but there are several articles about it easy to google
>>
>>19619895
Yuya just needs a push and he'll be a gigastar, in my opinion. The last two G1s proved it. Every time he's given the main event ball, he delivers.
>>
>>19619900
>Tsujischizo guy
lol
I'm the "Tsujischizo". Or rather, one of the many people that were called the Tsujischizo. And no, I'm calling shit grim.
I completely forgot that even was a nickname people gave to people in these threads. Some people really got mad over some very light Shota banter.
>>

>those empty seats near the stage

>>
>>19619867
the reason publicly given was that Naito didn't like that other people at the top of the card weren't working as many dates as he was

I'm sure it's a coincidence that it's precisely the seats that are being blocked by the stage that were not up for sale.

They could've done so much easy stuff with Wolf to help him get over

Instead, they decided to tell a very good, very daring story
>EVIL threatened to cut off his hair if he lost
>said if Wolf lost he could never wear a gi to the ring again
>Wolf comes out with his head already shaved in plain black trunks, embraces being a Young Lion, and shows his commitment to pro wrestling
That's why the Japanese crowd popped so hard. That's some fucking inspired booking right there. I don't know if it was Gedo or whoever but goddamn, they could've played it so much safer but they decided to do something risky and it totally got the crowd behind him.

I thought for sure he would get special gear and all sorts of special treatment but instead they did the opposite and it was great. Kino stuff.

>Preferring the IWGP match over the NEVER match
Please tell me no one on /njpw/ thinks like this.
>>
I always thought that Bushiroad were mostly to blame for NJPW's decline and that AEW only played a small part. Today, I realized that it's either 50-50 or mostly AEW's fault.
White, Ospreay, Omega, Ibushi, Okada all gone. Tony overspending to the point where WWE wouldn't even bid.
>>

imagine being THIS insufferable as a faggot, those guys were gonna leave regardless
>>
>>19619956
doesn't this mean that an actual young lion holds a singles title? That seems like this is the first time that's ever happened. I think a young lion held the 6 men belt once but that's about it
>>
>>19620048
Were they?
Okada was on a contract that had the value of $2,000,000. Would he take a cut to a standard WWE contract that he'd be bound to for five years?
He turned them down twice. Michaels and HHH both wanted him and he chose NJPW.
If rumours have to be believed, Khan threw absurd money at Okada, Ospreay and so on. Money that not even WWE matched.
>>
>>19620025
The Japanese government going full retard is what caused NJPW's declined. Heading into covid, NJPW was still white fucking hot and Naito was crowned the double champion
>>
>>19620073
dont worry, the nujamals will still blame tony for that somehow
>>
>>19620073
Then why did every other promotion and sport recover? Why is RIZIN better now than it ever has been?
How was Stardom, NOAH, TJPW, DDT, Dragon Gate, and even AJPW able to recover and actually do well?
Why was it only NJPW that is STILL somehow suffering because of Covid?
>Loses their entire 2019-2023 main event scene in two years.
>Can't produce new stars because the old ones never stuck around to elevate the new ones.
The whole "MUH COOOOVID" argument is just a safety net and get out of jail free card for AEW fans.

same on both counts. feel like I got worked in the good way.
>>
>>19620144
I could ask you the same question.
Those promotions did better and got bigger in some cases. NJPW are in a bad way. Attendance is down, their big names are gone.
So, how did Covid only harm NJPW?
Again, they lost their big stars to their supposed partner. The same partner that killed their expansion and hype in the West.

New Japan needs to stop worrying about partnering with American companies and start worrying about elevating their young talent. All the AEW partnership has done is give Tony more information on which toys he wants to poach. New Japan was doing just fine when their big partner was CMLL

>>
>>19621116
I think Kento Miyahara put it best in an interview he did a few months ago. The perception used to be that the best wanted to wrestle in Japan. Now the perception is they should make a name for themselves in Japan then rush to get signed by WWE or AEW. NJPW doesn't necessarily need to end the AEW partnership but NJPW really needs to pull back and focus on their domestic audience and domestic guys for now and keep the AEW interactions exclusively for Forbidden Door.
>>
>>19621164
>perception
He's 100% right.
Almost every foreigner in Japan is just using the place as a stepping stone to get that bag from AEW/WWE.
Was watching a Jericho shoot interview last night and amongst the self-fellating, he mentioned how Khan saw the match between he and Omega and realised there and then that "People want an alternative to WWE," despite the fact that the retarded fuck was watching it.
>>
gonna be interesting to see if the g1 in chicago will draw. really wonder why there are still pushing the us market even if the strong shows doesn't draw.

why not go for uk or something
>>
>>19621164
>The perception used to be that the best wanted to wrestle in Japan
Who was the last gaijin who exemplified this? I can't think of any names since AEW's inception
>>
>>19621201
Some people would probably say Sabre.
>>
>>19621164
the problem is how bad the yen is against the dollar right now, if that wasnt the case you'd see way more guys hitting it up even if it meant losing a few dollars and do it for the love of the game
right now it's hard to live in the us and work in japan and live comfortably
>>
>>19621248
Or, how about the real issue being a moron with infinite money offering insane contracts that not even WWE could match?
>>
I don't really care all that much if foreigners leave. Sure, Omega and Ospreay leaving sucked. Finlay leaving would suck but I'm prepared for it. Zack leaving would REALLY suck but if it happens, I'll seethe about it for a while and move on.

The ones that really hurt are the Nakamura and Okada cases. It spells a bad precedent and really fucks with stories.
>>
>>19621248
i thought guys like jay white or jeff cobb were living in japan?
>>
>>19621272
Call me a retard but I really believed that all or at least most of the gaijin dojo guys would stick around for 10 years at the minimum. I think having your actual world class training system serve as a feeder for other promotions is more embarrassing than the other foreigner big stars eventually leaving the company.
>>
>>19621303
I stopped believing that when Omega left, I'm afraid (I know he's not a dojo guy, but still.) Devitt was Strike 1 and Omega was Strike 2 and 3.

Absolutely, and people have been saying this since the tag tournament. Yuya was getting over massive during the G1, particularly in his matches with Oiwa and Tanahashi. He was getting chants over Tana at one point.

Then, all of a sudden, he's paired with Ice Cold Umino. He still gets cheered in singles matches but as a tag they're dragged back down to Umino's level.

Yuya needs to get away from Umino ASAP. Team with Oiwa, feud with Yuto, battle his way out of the midcard and into the main event level.

>Naoya Ogawa (57), known as the “former Rampage King,” who won a silver medal in judo at the Barcelona Olympics and later found success as a professional wrestler, spoke in an interview about Aaron Wolf (29), the Tokyo Olympics judo gold medalist in the men’s 100 kg class, who made a shocking debut at New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Tokyo Dome event on the 4th.
>Wolf clashed with NEVER Openweight Champion EVIL in a title match. Despite enduring the lawless interference of EVIL’s villainous faction, the House of Torture, Wolf locked in a reverse triangle choke to score a decisive victory. Achieving the remarkable feat of capturing a championship belt in his debut match, Wolf made history. Ogawa, who watched the bout on television, unusually praised him, saying, “Wolf did everything he could with what he’s capable of right now. I think it was good.”
>Regarding Wolf’s in-ring performance, Ogawa evaluated it with a nuanced tone: “The match was interesting, right? It wasn’t the kind of stiff, hard-hitting strong style matches I know from New Japan, but still…” Ogawa himself won his pro-wrestling debut match in April 1997 by defeating the then IWGP Heavyweight Champion Shinya Hashimoto in a singles bout. Reflecting on that, he said, “I won, but I was really just dancing in the palm of Hashimoto’s hand. Wolf won, but EVIL was the one controlling the match. He’s a fantastic wrestler. And he even did the airplane pose for me,” Ogawa added, lavishly praising EVIL for recreating the pose Ogawa struck in the ring after knocking out Hashimoto at the January 4, 1999 Tokyo Dome event.
>>
>>19624691
>That said, Ogawa believes Wolf still has issues to address. “It’s his body shape, after all. He had six months from the time his signing was announced, so I wish he had trimmed down a bit more properly,” he pointed out.
>Ogawa himself wrestled his debut match wearing a judo gi, which was on the instructions of his mentor, the late Antonio Inoki. “I debuted just over a month after announcing my switch, but Inoki told me to keep wearing the gi until my stomach went in. Inoki never tolerated wrestlers having a protruding belly. That’s why I didn’t take it off.” In fact, Ogawa did not appear bare-chested in black short tights until a year and a half after his debut, after slimming down through training and dietary changes.
>“New Japan’s Young Lions all have amazing six-pack abs. I want him to aim for at least that level,” Ogawa advised, offering words of caution to the new pro-wrestling star emerging from the world of judo.
>>
>>19624463
>Shota is a lot like Stardust era Naito. Failed babyface push
Naito was sent to cut the go home promo after the Rainmaker Shock because Okada was horrible on the mic and the fans stayed behind as Naito went to high five every one of them. The real Stardust Naito (2010-2012) had a certain cockiness from his days as a No Limit heel that Shota lacks. Mocking Shinsuke after beating him, doing the Rainmaker pose after beating Okada in the 2012 G1, showing defiance against mutoh who tried to raise his hand but naito refused his gesture. The 2013 push failed because the front office told him to lose everything that had made him stand out, to the point of even dropping his eye pose for that year’s G1. If Naito had stayed true to his character back then, he wouldn't have lost the fans and he would've main evented WK8

Would Naito be the type to try starting his own fed instead of just jumping to NOAH? Using what money? All the sponsors and investors in Japan willing to put money into wrestling are already doing it, problem is compared to 26 years ago there's way less of them and there's way less money to go around. It'd be impossible for him to start anything other than a poverty shindie.

Why I like AJPW has Hideki Suzuki working the dojo. It's great to see promotions keeping catch wrestling going and training younger guys in it.

>[NJPW] Aaron Wolf reveals the truth behind his "excess weight": "Victory is everything"

>New Japan Pro-Wrestling's NEVER Openweight Champion Aaron Wolf (29) revealed the "gains" and "tasks" of his shocking pro wrestling debut match on the 5th. The Tokyo Olympic Judo 100kg gold medalist suddenly snatched the belt by defeating EVIL at the January 4th Tokyo Dome show. While he proved his bottomless potential, some voices pointed out his physique as an issue. What is the truth and commitment behind the "excess weight" that Wolf himself admits to—?

>Wolf won by reversal with a triangle choke after enduring EVIL's lawless fight in his debut match. On this day, one night after his shocking first battle, he responded to an interview, reflecting: "I received an unprecedented number of LINE messages and such. So many people watched at the venue or on TV, and the response was once again huge. I was incredibly happy that everyone is evaluating me like this."

>He said he reviewed the match footage immediately. "There were some stiff parts, and places where I wanted to move a bit more like this. However, I was able to show my spirit and the part where I intimidate my opponent, so that was good. Being able to fight while having the face of a competitor is important for living in this world of competition," he says proudly.

>He smiled, noting that many responses came from his former home in the judo world, including Suzuki Keiji-shi—the All Japan Men's Judo director and 2004 Athens Olympic gold medalist who played the Japanese drums during his entrance. "Many different people came. Inoue Kosei-sensei and others also came to the venue, and receiving messages like 'It was interesting' or 'It was amazing' from people I've been involved with in the judo world makes me happy. Being able to have my new stage supported while maintaining those connections."

>On the other hand, Ogawa Naoya-shi, the "former Raging King" who was a Barcelona Olympic Judo silver medalist and active as a pro wrestler, praised his fighting style but pointed out a task: "It's the physique, after all. I wanted you to tighten up a bit more." Wolf himself is aware that there is room for evolution regarding his physical aspect. "I myself feel that the tightening is still insufficient, and I think that's something to build up from now," he prefaced before revealing the reason he avoided unreasonable shaping-up before his debut.

>"I thought about my true strength and which state is strongest. When I tried to reduce weight, training became a bit tough. If that happens, my physical strength ends up dropping, and I think I must be devoted to the competition. If I tighten my body but end up losing (it's meaningless). Of course, asserting oneself with the body is important, but victory is everything."

>In the modern pro wrestling world, many wrestlers boast muscular bodies and six-pack abs. Wolf analyzed himself: "I don't think I need to go that far. I'm not that type. I haven't been shredded since my judo days." He asserted, "To demonstrate my current performance to the maximum, this physique was the best yesterday. In order to build it up in half a year (since joining). Of course, since my wrestling life is long from here on, I hope to eventually tighten my body, shave off the useless parts, and make it a sharper body," pledging his future evolution.

>Being in a position where he is chased so soon after debuting is also motivation. "I think being targeted is the best. The more I'm targeted, the more I feel I must become stronger myself. I think the thrill of being targeted by someone will make me grow even more." Wolf, who climbed from super rookie to new star overnight, will liven up the pro wrestling world of 2026.
