I feel like the answer to all "why don't they do X like that back in the states" is just that the fans want different wrestling, and American wrestling was kind of written by one single guy and for his tastes for 20 years, so that's made people expect one thing.

I honestly think it's down to training methods. The West has lost many of its authentic trainers, with William Regal basically being the last of the lineage.

Japan still has its 90s-era and earlier training lineage going. I think it shows on both fronts. Western wrestling has bigger but lower quality spectacle. The quality of Eastern wrestling is finer on the small scale.

Partly the fans wanting different styles, yes, but in this case I really do think it's just "Wrestlers in the west aren't taught the skills properly." Nothing about the Western style requires people to sell do weak sells.

That is to say, the East cares about the craft. The West cares about the show.
So yes, different styles, but the difference in styles is from the root, not from the fan demands. (in my opinion)

Don't get me wrong, Western training is still solid. WWE has, obviously, a massive impact on how things are handled in the west. Their "Developmental" puts heavy focus on showmanship and character development. Not lacking in techniques training, but the style is more "technique for the sake of the show" rather than "technique for its own sake."
