Hasty Misread Edition

>What is this?
"The Mystery Dungeons 2e" is a text-based role-playing game created to expand on the setting created by the spinoff series, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. This has no story relation to the first quest, and is its own new story. Players still isekai themselves into the world and become Pokémon, going on adventures with their newfound guild mates! SFW ONLY

A deeper explanation of rules, related pages, and whatnot can be found here:

Our heroes(?) finally take their first steps against the Twilight Syndrome plaguing the clans and nomads of the Air Continent, their first clue coming in the form of a pair of Pokemon from space deeply knowledgeable in emotoreception. Meanwhile, the legendary hero Virizion provides another lead in the form of a pair of mystery dungeons indicated by a Croagunk detective before he had fallen to the illness. While she tests some resources gathered from the dungeon in question, you all venture back down into Mystic Monolith to gather more, just in case Virizion's mysterious water proves fruitful. Much like last time, the caves within the mountain glitter a royal indigo, studded with a myriad of giant Type gems. This time, you're headed for the bottom, though...

"I doubt it," Spike answers. "We're not here to mine type gems and potentially collapse the dungeon like last time."

He slips a leg out from his bag's strap and swings it in front of him, flipping the cover open to check his supplies.

"Since we're going so deep anyway, maybe it'd be possible to pick up on that voice the space guy was talking about."

Cubone wastes no time being a hater in general. Or chiding any funny ideas. "...This time, perhaps, we could keep our objectives in mind, without distraction?"
He's side-eyeing some of you rather hard... did you really have to bring along this whinebag? It's not like he's a whole lot MORE efficient.

Spike's ears twitch at the mention of the voice, he glances at Brook and then at Kaz. He's the only one that knows that he's heard it before.

He should share this with the rest of the group, but not before venturing into a challenging dungeon. Their minds should clear and unpreoccupied.

>>5947722
"That's the right attitude to have," Spike replies, nodding towards his reckless rival.

Espurr wonders if this mission will bear any fruit. Simultaneously, it matters little to them. As long as they make it out, they don't care.
They glance around for any useful crafting materials. Anything?

>>5947717
Espurr stares at Skitty blankly. If they see a large dragon in this cave they're liable to take their leave, on account of how helpless they currently are, entering this place without any attacking moves whatsoever.

>>5947723
>>5947729
"How seems foolish to assume a rudimentary physical creation would cure a mental affliction," Espurr says in their usual quiet but clear and toneless voice. They, like Cubone, like to point out peculiarities in day to day life, even if they're otherwise quiet.
>>
>>5947735
Spike shakes his head.

"Unfortunately, I can only send thoughts and sense emotions," he explains, "I would a move like Mind Reader to actually read other's thoughts- or have someone like Meowstic learn how to use telepathy as well."
>>
>>5947700

Matchia makes a little 'hm' noise.

"Indeed it did." Cubone confirms.
>>5947729
"If you did not bear witness, Lady Virizion possessed an urn full of water... or something with mysterious properties. It is what we are here to seek." he clarifies for Sagira.
>>5947739
"Perhaps," He doesn't disagree, entirely, but he has a more optimistic view on the matter. "though not all that affects the mind is mental in origin."

>Kaz says as an aside
>>

"I withhold my doubt until proven with recorded application," Sagira replies. "I've been proven wrong with greater oddities."

"Something isn't sitting right about Virizion's exploration of these caves to me..." Cress mutters. "The locals said they had never even heard of the Twilight Syndrome and never go outside. Yet she encountered an infected at the bottom...?"

>>5947705
>>5947706
"They wanted to keep out excavators to stop caving in the place. As long as we do not mess with the gems, we should be fine..."

It's not long until that misty terrain permeating the place starts filling the rooms you travel through. in one room in particular, the floor beneath you takes on a smooth, shiny crystalline texture whenever you can see through the sparkling fog. The floor's brown here. Lining the walls are oversized black and blue crystals deeply buried into the walls, as well as various items and sticks inlaid to some type of web? You can make out a few Iron Thorns, Gummis, and some kind of Rod. Useful for those inclined, but...they're in a web, obviously. Moreover, you can make out a few hearty looking ferals blocking off the exit; a Togetic, a Graveler, and a Mawile. Welp, it's time to get to business...

"No. Her investigative prowess is limited, purportedly." Cubone elaborates further, but he has a recollection of what to look for, at least. "Of note, it smells strongly of iron. It is likely infused with some sort of mineral."
>>5947757
"...I suppose a convenient start would be asking too much." he remarks, but gets to work. "Combat is not a particular affinity of mine... I will see what I can do about those items."
Item pinata? Made of webbing? ...His best idea so far is to see if he can weigh it down, and there is a significant degree of earthy material here... Cubone aims a Mud-Slap at the web!

"Now there's some good worth sellin'! But how ta get 'em..."

Espurr can't argue with that. It accurately reflects their biggest issue right now. Headaches suck, especially when they're a product of your own inability to control your natural capabilities.

>>5947754
"It would be a significant truth to be wrong about."

>>5947757
And there it is, trouble. Blocking the way. Typical.
You know what to do, Espurr.

Being unequipped for battle, Espurr has to find Items to cover their inadequacies. Hopefully this web will be a convenient source of equipment.
Trying to get the Items down, or at least make them more readily-available to them, Espurr unfolds their ears and amplifies the pull of Gravity in a radius around them three-fold. It hurts them so, but it'll hurt everyone else a lot more- once they get access to those pointy metal spikes and rods and so on.

>Espurr used Gravity!
>They're trying to lower some of the webbed Items into reach! Hopefully they'll drop closer to Espurr, rather than farther from them.

A true strike, dealing 10 damage! A solid blow, but Togekiss looks well enough to take another hit before it's in trouble. Orner can feel something on the bird-thing other than down when she hits. Maybe it has something?
>>5947786
That's 2 Damage, and a flinch. he's hard-bodied.
>>5947782
>>5947772
Any extra force generated by Evan's whip is spent when Ishmael lands sidelong into the wall behind Mawile. After crashing for 5 damage, He's able to roll off the wall and maintain enough speed to lunge at Mawile for a burn and a flinch! 10 Damage! It may have been more, but her gnashing jaws force Ishmael to slow down a tad.
>>5947783
The blue gem in contact with the wave glimmers before shattering on contact with the wave. It was a Water Gem! That boosts the damage of the wave, but...
>>5947788

>>5947781

>>5947786
The intensified weight is starting to pull the entire web off the wall, as well as the items. Ordinarily, that would only add to the number of resources obtained from this trap, but...
>>5947768
>>5947767
Darius finds his digging extraordinarily easy, and Cubone's Mud-Slap far more voluminous than average. Darius is able to swiftly reach normal, non-crystalline stone and a position to strike while Cubone's mud pulls down and coats the entire web. Fortuitous...Until that crystalline brown floor underneath everyone spikes in brightness. Having empowered Dig and Mud-Slap, the floor gem crumbles, putting everyone in freefall!!
>>5947801
While Spike prepares himself by leaping onto a wall. His perch is...not great, given Gravity. It's pulling him down before anything even happens...He's sliding down only negligibly slower than everyone else.

ENEMY TURN 1

Graveler guards against Surf with Wide Guard!
Mawile lunges for Orner with Vicegrip before the fall begins! Once airborne, It looks like she's trying to wrestle Orner into position to break her fall...! 6 Normal damage.
Togetic is caught offguard by the flinch, and loss of flight. He only has time to loose an Extrasensory on Mohka before she's stuck to the collapsed floor. 11 Psychic damage, if she manages not to flinch.

PLAYER TURN 2

Fight Against Bowser, Super Mario RPG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkzJHhv4nrs

It looks like you are all in Gravity assisted freefall, now that the type gem making up the floor is gone. You're going to land hard unless something is done...
You have one turn to do something about that.

Spike is wall clinging during his descent, but it only slows him so much and...kind of hurts.
With Mud greatly widening the surface area of the web Brook and Kaz are stuck to, it forms a sort of parachute slowing them down considerably.
>>5947790
Sagira doesn't find much more of note...until the scenario changes completely. Looking down, there's a fast approaching pool of water. At this speed, it'd be the same as hitting dirt...but the walls below are lined with a single vine, another web, gems of every single type to boost anyone's moves, and a few protruding stones to break a fall...if still a little hard.

Cress spends her turn breathing an Ember over the mud, hoping to solidify it before the speed deteriorates it...

Skitty has some experience moving in Gravity from her training with Espurr. Time to see if that counts for anything!

She kicks off a piece of the falling floor and jumps, angling herself for the web, which'll hopefully cushion her... or somebody else. (IQ Skill: Lightweight)

That somebody else? Well, Matchia is looking mildly desperate, and they've practiced some Baton Passes together...
>Skitty used Baton Pass on Matchia over the web, assuming she can get there!

>Sagira's Magician! (Thaumaturgy 3)
Cursing at the sudden lack of floor, Sagira twists her body around to stare at the vine and the remaining sticky webs. If there's a chance... she might be able to pull off a stunt to give her a shot of not impacting water at terminal velocity.

She launches an Ember upward, watching it spark and sputter toward the remaining webs. Grasping it through a portal, she attempts to rip some away to grapple with the single nearby vine. Splaying her body flat to lessen the speed of her fall, she blades her body toward the wall and that vine.

Espurr has significant reason to panic, falling from this height so suddenly. Their head hurts from the surprising rush of emotions as they have to stabilize their thoughts in order to cancel the Gravity. It's not working too well...

They've practiced meditation for a little while now. They usually try to tune the world out, focus on the void between stars, but now, they can't help but feel the wind rushing past them.
Despite this, it's strangely... homey. In spite of them falling down at a considerable speed, in freefall, things feel almost weightless. They close their eyes, loosely holding onto the web. It's as though they're in space, where nothing matters.

>Espurr is trying to meditate!
>If they can isolate their thoughts, they might be able to tune into the Psychic Gems in the walls to help them in a moment. But first, they have to find peace.

The wave doesn't reach as well as she'd hoped, not nearly enough to resist both gravity and Gravity, but the extra water is certainly going to break surface tension. It'll deal 3 less damage on impact.

From what would have been 10 damage, unassisted.
Subtract your reductions from 8 flat damage on impact, if your character lands in water.

>>5947838
Flight is...off the table. Gravity is in effect. Katherine twirls for 1 damage reduction.
>>5947837
A flailing Ish can make his way over to the Mawile Seviper stack, but finds himself...incapable of jumping. With both Orner and the feral breaking his fall, Ishmael reduces his taken damage by 6.
>>5947848
Under which Orner is struggling to generate any thrust with her water. It's not looking hot. A stray Water Gem protruding grazes her upon falling, helping along the endeavor before shattering. She spares herself 3 damage...minus 2 and 2 more from the two Pokemon weighing her down.
>>5947841
A much better pierce this time around, Spike is able to bring enough friction to slow down considerably. His claws are uncomfortably hot, but once he runs out of stone it's more of a smack into the water below than a crash. He reduces his damage taken by 3 counting worn claws.
>>5947850
I'll take Protect as a uniquely successful brace. -4 damage taken.
>>5947861
Fortunately or unfortunately, she's falling too fast for hitting the vine with fire to matter. With the vine in her paws, the lip of the roof everyone falls through snags the vine and whips it underneath, shifting all of Sagira's momentum horizontally. Starting her fall over when when she lets go, she doesn't pick up nearly as much speed when she lands on the path out of this watery cavern on dry land. -6 damage taken.

Espurr borrows some power from the environment...though something about this use of them doesn't allow it to flow well enough to 'spend' the gems the way they're normally seen. Espurr finds just enough calm for this state of mind to manifest as -4 damage taken. Were anyone watching, they might notice Espurr slowing down just before landing.
>>5947875
Sail tries further breaking the tension with more water!...It loses pressure faster than he falls and smacks his face. The splay he happens to take after reduces damage by 1.
>>5947845
Kaz, still on his widened trap falls in more slowly at 4 damage reduced. For him, it's more a matter whether to pick out the Brown Gummi and Iron thorns before swimming out from this still-descending underwater web dome. getting stuck here would be...real bad.
>>5947851
>>5947855
And Matchia finds herself on top of the apparatus, a little disorientingly. She takes 5 reduced damage on impact, with Skitty taking full.
>>5947840
There's a protruding rock to stand on before landing from the full height of the fall, but the friction still stings your vines until a Grass gem passes by and strengthens them. Evan rappel-grinds down for -5 damage taken.
>>5947844
The muddy web and Cress are thrown a little off balance by Brook's kick-offs, but he catches on an uneven stone jutting at a (relatively) generous angle from the wall. He still feels the sting of that landing, but he isn't missing any more than a quarter of his health once his substitute is flattened in his place.

Those unmentioned take 8 damage, landing in water.

...But it's getting late. Hear more of our further descent...later! An update on this particular predicament tomorrow, with the real dungeoning continuing next Tuesday or Saturday.

Hard landings abound. Evan and Brook merely have tall (but painless) jumps into the pool below. It's still a little intimidating with gravity still in effect, but...go ahead. Those having fallen in the water have a minimalistic swim up to the dry ledge Sagira finds herself on, that being one with some mossy growth and a doorway leading further into the dungeon. Why is there a light source in there, though? Were you to look ahead, you might find a little lit torch framing a stone pit and some dense greenery in the next room.

Graveler simply curls up and begins spinning, having no moves to assist his crash into the water. He takes 8 damage and vanishes into nothingness on impact. Togetic fares much the same, only just staying corporeal enough to struggle in the pool.
Mawile, sandwiched between two flailing Pokemon only mitigates 1 damage taken, having lost her grip on Orner.
Both of the ferals as well as Ishmael and Cress seem to be having a lot of trouble with the swim up...

Espurr will survive. They aren't sure how, and surely nobody cared too look as they were falling, but they're fine.
With eyes closed, it takes them a moment to realize they've stopped, even after the impact.
https://youtu.be/rHTinEcgLn0?si=g-ephWywQW5lt8VW
After a long few seconds of silence and complete solitude from the outside world, they open their eyes and regain their grip on their surroundings. Gravity ends immediately. Perhaps it wasn't right to have it active during the fall to begin with, but they weren't thinking.

Espurr quickly scurries through the body of water and onto the nearest source of dry-ish land. Their body has to remember to shiver as it recalls the events that transpired moments ago and the temperature of the water. Espurr doesn't realize they're shivering slightly. They seem quite calm otherwise.

What now, they wonder? They look around for Items and materials, and after that, anyone that needs help. Charitable, surely.

You find surprisingly comfortable accommodations in this break between the Mystic Monolith and the Ontic Oubliette. Plenty of of peace and space to rest, train a little, and even eat. All of you manage to recover 2 HP from the rest area!
The Shelgon from your last visit happened to be around as well, and he's a lot more friendly, now that nobody's mining away his home's structure. Onto each of you taking on the challenge ahead, he pushes a collection of glass jars, and a few healing items to Ishmael as well. Apparently it's standard practice to have them in the event one passes the trial.

Moving ahead to this trial dungeon, it's exactly as the few who knew about the Ontic Oubliette described. It's... an empty, spacious cavern with no split paths, items, or even features on the ground, except a flood of Misty Terrain. The place is so inundated that the end of your visual range fades into pink rather than black. Despite the odd atmosphere and lack of Pokemon, you can't help but feel malicious intent pointed at you...

Out of the blue, they attempt to start a conversation with one of the others nearby. It's in their best interest they attempt to form what most individuals call 'a relationship' with the different members of the group.
"There is no place for enemy combatants to hide in this location," that also goes for any allies, too. "It is open with no source of cover or shelter other than the fog in the distance. If anyone were to have ill intentions, your cautious footing would not affect the outcome."

What a fun way to start a conversation. Is this their attempt at being friendly?

They're going to sell it directly back to one of their Allies. They don't need to have taken an economics class to see the value in such a tactic. Espurr is a cat who wants to redistribute wealth to cats such as themselves. Focus on the such as and themselves.

Espurr may be satisfied to have gotten out of this scuffle unharmed, but they'd rather not get into another one. They hope that the coming locations are more varied and full of Items and objects they might toil with. They would very much appreciate some more crafting materials.

And so goes...most of your travel through the Mystery Dungeon. Other beings come and go, surely in enough number and uncertain nature to make quick work of any solo traveler the way these dragons do, but none as sturdy or problematic as that opening haunt. You manage them with little incident, however strange it is that you can't find bodies or utterances from any of them even if you're sure they have to be Pokemon, or damage them with physical attacks...
In any case, your battling has taken you very deep underground at this point, and finally, you're at the dungeon's end. An invisible threshold is crossed, and you can feel that you've left the mysterious space. It's still hard to make out anything through all this mist, but you can definitely see that Flygon fluttering and stumbling into walls repeatedly near the tunnel leading to the end. Which, naturally, it will. Flygon flinches and leaps back at your greeting, responding with a high, tinny screech of a roar that shakes the room. Land Below, Fire Emblem Fates: Revelations
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xxo6UVefbGw

As you step deeper into this tunnel, you can feel the heat grow sweltering. It's burning up in here, and yet more the deeper underground you go. The mist and fog thickens to the point you can't even see the ground underneath you or your allies right next to eachother anymore. Is this stream now? With even less sight, the tunnel might have opened out into the last chamber for all you know...
Those willing to draw those kinds of conclusions without evidence will have to assume so, because...
All of you find yourselves alone now. The fog makes up all of the air now, and not just pooling at the ground the way terrain does. Is this a third dungeon? You're not hearing the sounds of everyone's voices anymore either...

There are targets everywhere. You're all here. One pair in direct contact, some far ahead of the rest, one falling from a ceiling...but you can't make any identities out. Who's who? One is pretty close, actually...but you can't make any jumps without knowing who you're passing with.

...Until a mass of...something, crashes into many of you. Did Wallis use surf? It sure doesn't look like water, but it moves and clings to you like it. It tickles your nerves, scales, and hair like something you've never seen or touched before...

What's unmistakably a speeding shot of heat crashes into Kaz and explodes; a look and sensation he's only ever seen from Cress. The sting is more potent and persistent than any fire he's been near recently...! Are they copying your friends' moves...? Or are these your friends? Kaz takes 13 damage.
...Then 7 from a sudden laceration from behind.

Other moves, you're sure are being used elsewhere you don't see...
A wave of energy rolls through Cress. She allows herself a gasp before she's KOed by converging projectiles both physical and not.
The fluid substance throws everyone around...in the same nonviolent way Wallis does occasionally as well. It forces Sagira to reset her signal partway through the first one.
Gravity?

Another one failed its own high jump...
And Wallis narrowly has enough awareness to sidestep an attack nearby. The sound of splitting air says it's a slash, too...

Evan, now at the first landmark he's seen can feel one of the buzzing Pokemon drawing towards him from behind...

>>5956042
And much like others, you bump into some kind of low wall, almost tripping over it. It's the first feature of the room itself you've encountered since passing that Flygon...And you can sense that many of the entities surrounding you are gathered here specifically. Do you continue forward? Take some down with yourself? Scout? You can hear a whirling sound, like something whipping through the air...
>>5956055
And you press into your chosen direction until you happen into...something. It's not a Pokemon you recognize, or even an object you recognize. There is more to creation than the material.

Beyond the earth and heaven all the creatures and constructs that inhabit them are ideas. These are not merely the fleeting thoughts that a psychic may detect and interpret, but patterns and cycles that through a shared essence one could be called a spirit.

This is the domain in which souls rest. This is where things such as the types hold their purest form. Love. Hate. Good. Evil. Falsity. Truth.

Justice.

And they are self-evident. Reoccurring. Perpetual. Manifesting themself in the material, through out all of creation whether through the land or people.

I am such a manifestation. I am the one who was brought into this world by the flow of causality. Everything that has happened to me has occurred for a reason. I am not set in a path, forced against my will- the path is my will.

I thought myself to be without kin, but that is merely an illusion. My spiritual lineage reveals to me that the righteous are my kin, and I another agent in this cause.

But the battlefield in which I fight is a material one, one where I must contend with a limited body and a shrouded mind. The mind is bombarded by an unseen force, deceived into believing that death looms close and filled with the terror the body responds as it should, shaking and nearly functioning as a living body should.

But I am the master. They WILL OBEY ME.

This corpse stands in-between worlds and where my will forces it to move towards the pond of water. Through a solid fog of panic, so palpable as to threaten the mind, I sense a shimmer of peace within Evan who lies within the pond.

Yes. The water that Virizon spoke of.

I force the head into the water and with some difficult manage to drink despite reflexing tightening the throat. I drink until I cannot anymore.

I have had my fill. The water should remedy the physical condition of the body and mind, but my charges will need it more.

With shaky paws I take out the glass jar the Sheldon from earlier and fill it with water. My teeth chatter.

I turn around to see who I can administer this to first.

The lot of you can finally see eachother; there's no fog or mist at at all in here!

You find yourself departing Baram once more, on the request of the ever-mystery Sneasel. Wherever you're going now, you're off to a place with hostile conditions: magma and steam. For a moment, you can't help but wonder if there's anything there that would survive in a harsh environment. However, you've seen worse. You'll just have to be extra vigilant in searching for the artifacts left behind.

As you approach, you make note of the unique appearance of the beach. Black sand is battered by the crashing waves running up and down the shore. It's a strange sight, considering how often you get to stare out into the sea around Baram Town. The cave's entrance is right up ahead, indicated by the map.

Getting closer, you can feel the wafting heat emanating from deep below. For those not comfortable with such things, it's already immediately uncomfortable to be struck by the sudden change in temperature.

Chapter 12: Superheated Spelunking

Taking a moment to rest before heading inside, you look around. Other than the looming volcano and the strange sand, it's rather unremarkable. There is a tree nearby blooming with some ripe Rawst berries, but nothing more than that.
>Head inside?

"You guys always take me to such nice places."

"Same black sand as the shores we rescued the Shore Thing from... wonder wat kinda relation there is between the two beaches."

Cubone, who has voiced complaints all of you may have wisely ignored, and petty enough in scope that he doesn't press any of them, has accompanied you to the Most Definitely Not A Fire Dungeon. By all accounts, he should be acclimated to this sort of environment, given his species, but...
Well, it's better safe than sorry. Taking a brief aside to carefully climb his way far enough up the berry tree that he can grab one of the bitter berries... it might occur to an outside observer that for once, Cubone may actually just be acting on personal greed for once. Cubone does hate sugary foods. Something bitter would be nice, he thinks.

This time, however, a name is properly appended to the post, and that's pretty poggers.

As everyone grabs their own share of Rawst Berries, descending into the cave is already a bothersome effort. The air feels uncomfortably oppressive, with the weight of the heat and humidity pressing down on you and your ability to breathe properly. Stepping into the left room, you immediately have to shield your eyes from the sudden change in brightness and atmosphere. While the steam isn't as all-consuming in this area, it is blisteringly hot. You can see magma popping and bubbling, a veritable river of molten earth dividing the room in half. On the other side, you can see another chamber. The stone there... looks uniquely modified. There must be something in there for you to find.
>If you roll lower than 5, expect to be burned.

Orange rocks litter both sides of the magma shore, and you can see something slithering around in the slow-moving river of fire. Some kind of long, flat creature, neatly moving in sync with the flow of the magma. Looking around, there doesn't seem to be anything else to get across. You can see the glow on the walls and the hot gas accumulating around the top. If you're planning on flying or digging through, you'll have to be creative...

Wrapped by the steam, you feel like your energy is being sapped by the pressure. It's not great to experience, much less to breathe in. As you continue forward, your instincts make you stop, and you all stumble backwards as a geyser of steam vents from the floor beneath you, slamming into the roof of the structure. You can hear the roaring of the ocean crashing against lava!

Scrambling back and squinting, you try to make out what's going on here...

There seems to be some kind of pattern to the area before you...
>picrel
Yes, that's it. The steam appears to fissure between the gaps, but the major vents seem to exhaust the greatest amount. You'll have to be careful about moving here... but is there even a method to this madness?

He plummets and lands on the giant creature moving in the magma. He's uncomfortably warm, even for a fire-type, and his head is swirling.

Kaz can't identify them, but they are definitely just rocks, he thinks.

The surf mostly turns into a pile of steam as it collides with the magma. You've managed to slightly lessen the distance... and you've angered the creature in the middle.

Thankfully, Cubone's distraction causes the flat creature to explode in that direction again, violently assaulting the magma. You can see a half-conscious Ishmael bouncing around its flat back. A... Centiskorch? It's really long. If you could distract it... you could use it to cross...

While the dye has served its purpose, its furious eyes are now trained on the group itself. It is now curiously angry with why trespassers have entered its territory.

Kaz and Cress makes the jump... and nearly falls off the Centiskorch, nearly having overshot the approach. They definitely don't go unnoticed, and now they're the subject of the feral's undivided attention of curious anger. Oh, and Ishmael is also there with them. Orner's Seed Bomb sends her wheeling through the air, landing on the only other platform in the lava river, the tail end of the Centiskorch. She can feel the intense heat peeling away at her scales.

Cubone, surprisingly, is holding on, for now.

She's joined shortly by Spike, who dips his tail into the bubbling fury of the stirred magma river. Matchia is the last to make the crossing, feeling a pop of gas next to her jump. Gritting her teeth as she's showered by molten specks, she lands on the lava bug.
>Spike is burned.
>Matchia is burned.

Cubone successfully lets out a perfectly timed shot of water, but completely underestimates the heat generated from water instantaneously evaporating beneath him. With a gasp of pain, he's carried across.
>Cubone is burned and takes 2 damage.

Orner, combined with the thrashing of the Centiskorch, manages to fling herself across, but it's not perfect. She slams into the adjacent wall before ricocheting off and to the other side. Covered in mineral and ash, she's definitely alive.
>Orner takes 7 damage and is burned.

On the other side is the chamber, with its chiseled entrance. Peering inside, you can see a purposefully constructed organ-like structure, with three ferals patrolling the area. It seems to belch out steam in regular intervals, but you're too far to count the pattern.

>>5959342
>>5959344
The two of them, against the odds, manage to practically throw themselves across the room, bypassing the dangerous tiles. They can feel the lingering sensation of the steam radiating off their fur and skin, but they're across. Looking into the other room... they notice three statues placed on steam vents.

Oh. That must be the artifacts.
>First Statue: It displays the two heroes you all saw on the cave paintings.
>Second Statue: It seems to be a recreation of that strange stick figure in the painting. A Gardevoir, Spike called it.
>Third Statue: It's the most complex, featuring a battle against the golems depicted in the paintings.

Looks like you have to figure out the path to get these heavy statues across, huh...? Looking back at them, it appears you can only take one before flooding this room with too much steam to handle. A strange gut feeling tells you that whatever you choose to bring out influences how you might be rewarded.

"Hm." Cubone thinks... Fire-types aren't a terrible matchup for his fellows, and the ferals have been distracted for a bit. He takes out and looks at the last dye bomb he has, hesitating. It... doesn't seem very useful at first glance, but staring back over at the vent he discovered, he gets an idea... if the thing were to burst inside the vent, it'd be too weak to ever damage stone, being a glorified paintball, but the steam pressure would blast it forward and colour everything connected to it with the bomb's contents...
Deciding there's no better use for a harmless tool of vandalism, he slices it open with his thumb claw and tosses it into the vent, the steam pressure sure to detonate it.

Spike rests his head against the side of the pipes, they're burning hot, but he can endure that.

He's trying to find some answer. There's a pattern here, but what for? Is it an obscure reminder of a code? No, that's too much work for a simple reminder. Do the specific patterns patter? If this was to release pressure it would do it all once- maybe it's to regulate pressure?

Maybe. . . But then what needs it's pressure to be specific? The steaming path? If that's the case then perhaps this is a device meant to regulate a hazard that someone with knowledge could've easily work through.

A pressure is building up in Spike's head. This is getting annoying. . . There's nothing he can do. . .

Spike grabs a rock with a sharp point and goes behind the organ to the natural vent- and just starts slamming his impromptu pick at it.

>>5959464
You note all of them are carved from polished obsidian. The species are a Charmander and Bulbasaur, just like the paintings on the cave you previously visited. While not as complex as the golem one, this one does have more noticeable care placed into it.

After retreating and using the sleeping Centiskorch as a bridge, the entire group is looking over the strange statues in the steam room. Steam is threatening to escape from the bases of the statues. The moment you take one away, the other two will become inaccessible to collect.

This is the previous description.

You can only take one, and the statue you choose to bring may influence the content of your rewards... perhaps it's not the physical value they bring, but the meaning behind each of them.
