Hi. In my autism, I have created an excel sheet that gives me generated gnolls. I can produce hundreds of generated gnolls with basic DnD stats and some made up CK3 stats along with them. It also tracks their age and applies a yearly death rate of 5% to elders (40+) and pups. I want to use it for something, so I’m doing the great gnoll test civ. The civ will be freeform, we will progress in years. Each turn/year players can propose projects to improve our gnoll pack. The number of projects is unlimited, though please bear in mind our low tech level and number of gnolls when proposing something, you can’t craft iron swords from the get go. I have the final say as to what projects go forward and which ones don’t.We play as a gnoll pack in arid savannahs. A simple hunter-gatherer group, bear in mind that we have very little in the way of technology and have only recently mastered fire and stone tools. Although, somehow, our minds are sharp and able to adapt and progress at a faster rate than one would expect.Gnoll societies are matriarchal and much like our distant cousin, the hyenas, our females are larger and bulkier than our males. Our clan is known as Bloodclaw, we often paint a gnoll hand with bloodied claws in and near our dens. We are reputed for our skills in wrestling and fighting claw to claw.We believe in the wind spirits that hunt across the steppes, giving and taking life. A good gnoll joins the grand hunts of the wind spirits after death. We speak what is known as the Gnoll tongue, a hard language accentuated by cackles and growls. All gnolls speak the tongue, we know of no outsiders who speak it.There are four gnoll packs of similar size in our vicinity, we are neutral towards them:Houndmother – Known for their hyena pets. Their symbol is the head of a hyena.Whitescar – Known for their toughness. Their symbol is a scarred eye.Swiftwind – Known for their speed. Their symbol is three curved lines symbolizing wind.Strongsnout – Known for their tracking skills. Their symbol is a stylized snout.
>>6106267===== STATS =====There are 100 gnolls in the pack. Of these, 66 are adults and 34 are pups. There are 33 adult females in the pack. We expect between 2 and 15 pups to be born healthy this year.We live in the Bloodclaw den, there are specialized burrows for hunter-gatherers and toolmakers amidst its many tunnels and pack-homes.The hunt continues…>Propose projects for the pack.Projects are ambitious plans undertaken by the civ’s gnolls. They can be categorized by the QM to be:-Private. Smaller projects that do not cause drastic change in the civ. New buildings, tech research, cultural & religious additions.-Public. Drastic projects, will be added to a voting pool that gets decided on by all players, things such as war, raids, migration, etc.You may encapsulate your project within one of these categories:>Building>Culture>Diplomacy>Exploration>Religion>Technology>OtherGnoll of the day:Rrhyhrrith Bloodclaw, daughter of Myrth. A 26 year old gnoll, she is one of the pack’s smartest gnolls. Though she is spindly for a female, she compensates with swiftness and agility.
>>6106268Let's try this>Public project>Technology>ANIMAL HUSBANDRY>Let's assess our local fauna and try to find some animals that can be domesticated. Something for grazing like a sheep, something for guarding like a dog, and maybe even something to ride on like a horse. Or any fantasy equivalents that we find. In our steppe enviroment this kind of tech would probably be the most important to developSomething like this OP?
>>6106273That's perfect. That would be more of a private project though, like a group of gnolls going out to seek whatever can be domesticated. I'll declare when a project is public.Anyone else feel free to write as you feel, even one sentence projects are ok now that we're starting out and there's very little to go off of.

In our steppe enviroment this kind of tech would probably be the most important to developA party of gnolls heads out into the wilderness to find an animal to domesticate. They know that the Houndmothers successfully domesticated hyenas. While domesticating these wilful animals is no easy task, they are very much close cousins to your species.Meanwhile, another option may be to domesticate zebras. Though they are stubborn and strong and would be a constant challenge to their would-be masters, some in the party believe that it would one up the Houndmothers in their game.>The Hyenas would make for good companions. [Medium]>Zebras will help us fly with the wind! [Hard]>>6106329>Begin a fine culinary traditionWe usually eat our meat raw, but one smart gnoll by the name of Uamyrbu Bloodclaw, son of Tholtta, has begun cooking the meat. He calls the strange invention an “antelope steak”. Many prefer to eat raw, bloody meat, but there seems to be a preference developing among some in the pack for the fired meat.[Gain cultural element: Antelope Steak]Uamyrbu is now known as “Firemeat” amongst the pack, his name spreads among the savannah.>>6106351>Develop a system of writing the Gnoll language. If possible, begin preparing writing materials, to record our clan history and keep track of important information.Summer’s noon is a time mostly spent in the shade, trying to wait out the unbearable sun. One of our older gnolls, Zixaac, son of Thosnor, has started what seemed to be like a game with some gnoll youths, including Ylvarri, son of Antaqla. They drew pictograms on the ground of various animals, and even of concepts such as “hunt”, “mate”, “matriarch”.Zixaac’s interest was swiftly sparked, and he presented many of his writings to the matriarchs of the pack who began using them during hunts and scouting missions. In many places, one can find symbols drawn on rock and tree and you would know that Bloodclaw has been there.Beyond its utilitarian uses, Zixaac has shown interest in depicting the Wind Spirits and to carve imitations of the claw mark of gnolls who have passed, to put them to memory forever in the stones of the burrows.Gain: [Early Pictograms] [Dead Recordkeeping]Zixaac Bloodclaw, son of Thosnor, is now known as the Recordkeeper. May his skill at pictography be remembered for generations.=====I’ll wait for more projects to come. Those who have written projects may write more if they wish. Please vote for whether we go taming zebras or hyenas in your posts.
>>6106351This- make sure the language is based on sound’s instead of terms- more Latin and less Chinese or Egyptian
domesticate some plants.Support domesticating Zebras
>>6106417>ZebrasChariots are pay-to-win bullshit in the ancient world. I know it's a little bit far off, since we don't have metalworking or anything like that, but it'll have a nice payoff.>>6106419Noted. Amending >>6106351 to>Cultural>Develop a system of writing for the Gnoll language. The language should have an alphabet, instead of pictographs.
>>6106417>Technology>WeavingThere are sure to be long grasses, since we live on the steppe. We could use baskets to help our gatherers. Maybe there are naturally fibrous plants, from which we could produce rope or other fiber. Being able to tie our animals would probably help the domestication efforts with the horses.
I mean I don’t see how the language can’t have both picturgraphs and alphabet- I could see it developing as a byproduct of people wanting to write out their names.Picturgraphs used for limited space stuff-IE; a sigh for a Bar would have a on it- but Joes Bar and Pub would be written out. Would make the development of warning labels and symbols to come much earlier to.
>>6106417>BuildingConstruct a pen or stable in which to keep our tamed zebras, to prevent them from running away and aid the domestication effort. We have access to stone tools and fire-- can we build with wood, or would that be a separate project/advancement?
>>6106806A pen made from a bunch of rocks and a few gnolls watching the roped animals. But there are no zebras yet so we'll keep this project for later.>>6106422>>6106544Many long grasses populate the savannahs, and some of our gnolls had already been using handfuls of grass as a separation between food and the ground. It would be Krocourg, son of Tholtta, who first took a set of long grasses, gathered its fibers and spun it into various tools. The task required much time, gnollpower and dexterity, but eventually great lengths of ropes and multiple baskets were made. The task of foraging became much more productive thanks to this invention.Krocourg is now known as “The Weaver” and has founded a weaver’s burrow. Great dexterity is required to be a true weaver. He’s also set up some sticks around patches of long grass, and claims them as his to use.Gain: [Basketweaving] [Baskets] [Rope]Gain building: Weaver’s burrow, Weaver’s long grass patch, owned by Krocourg.>>6106801>>6106351>>6106517Meanwhile, Zixaac the Recordkeeper did not stop in his efforts. He had a Recordskeeping Burrow made in the den, and began his next masterpiece. Many gnolls had similar claw marks, and though one was expected to ‘sign’ with them in remembrance of their life as a Bloodclaw, many complained that they did not leave a truly distinctive mark.Zixaac thus took down to writing the sounds of gnoll names. He assigned the most typical sounds to certain symbols, similar to the curled lines that usually represent the Wind Spirits. Each gnoll’s name was recorded, and though this alphabet has not yet been completed or perfected, it gave each of them a chance of being remembered for something more than their claws after their time. So many gnolls wished to write themselves down that a whole new burrow had to be made, and Zixaac named it the Burrow of Remembrance.Gain: [Simple Alphabet]Gain building: Recordkeeper Burrow, Burrow of Remembrance.>>6106422>>6106517As the den grew, a daring group of gnolls took up the task of trying to tame zebras. These animals have always been respected prey of gnollkind, and many gnolls admire their stubbornness even in the face of death. The task would not be simple, but these were some of the pack’s strongest, and taming zebras would certainly bring them glory.Undais Bloodclaw, daughter of Shavirth. Project:>Category: Religion>Title: Tenets>Description: We know that a "good gnoll" is rewarded by the spirits, but what is a good gnoll to them? What is a bad one? How are we to appease the spirits if we don't know what they want us to actually do and avoid?
