Hey there. I wanted to play an awakened assassin vine in a DnD game and can’t so I thought it would be fun to do DnD 3.5e with one character(the assassin vine) on /qst/ to see how it goes. Thread posters will play the character and whatever the popular decision for what the character should do is will be the one chosen so that it’s actually a game and not me picking and choosing to fit what I want. Lets choose a place to begin our adventure:1) A forest2) A cave3) A town4) The Outer Planes5) A desert6) The bottom of an ocean7) On a ship at sea8) In a dungeon9) In space=====The character sheet is here below. If you want any changes to the character, now is the time to suggest changes. We’ll name the vine after we get started. There’s no plans for this and it will be made up as we go along.https://og.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=2947600
>>6119592Obviously gotta be the forest. How would the assassin vine even get anywhere else?
>>61195921) A forest
>>6119640>Vines do not grow in caves, towns, deserts, dungeons, ocean floors, or on ships. And could not possibly grow in a fantasy space setting or Outer Planes or Anon, I...My choice:>On a ship at sea>20ft 'height' and 300+ lbs/shrug
>>61195921) A forest6) The bottom of an ocean
8) In a dungeon

>>6119640>How would the assassin vine even get anywhere else?By having its roots put in a pot and carried around
>>6119640>>6119653>>6119676>>6119672>>6119719I flipped a coin to decide between a normal forest and an underwater forest since there were two posts for each. Heads was the normal forest and tails the aquatic one. It landed on heads.>>6119672Do you think a lighter body weight would be better? I couldn’t find any info for how much an assassin vine should weigh so I just made up a number that made sense. Time for the first post!
>>6119809You(the vine) don’t “wake up” as you don’t sleep, but you are held within an enclosed space with a side in every direction. Occasionally you slap your body against the sides of the enclosed space and if you knew what a box was you would probably think you’re stuck inside of a box. As you’ve only been alive for a year, all of your memories are of being your normal vine self hunting prey in your forest and just vibing wrapped around trees soaking up sunlight every day. It makes you feel nice as you remember the good days before you tried hunting a group of traveling people who almost killed you. They dropped you to critical condition before managing to capture you and proceeding to tie you to a long plank of wood with many tightly tied ropes holding you down. One of the group spent a very long time with you making weird vocalizations, treating your wounds, and rubbing your malleable pseudo-flesh bark. After many hours of the weird ritual, something awakened inside of you. It’s like your ability to think and understand was massively heightened- your consciousness expanded to a new level. Everything was different now, and so many new thoughts and ideas ran through your plant body. Among them was an understanding that the people thing above you is the one that granted you this gift of expanded consciousness, and that you were given mercy by it and the others. Of course you didn’t know what mercy was, couldn’t understand any of their words, and had no concept of language or socialization, but with your expanded consciousness you were able to process these new ideas in their raw wordless forms. With you still weak, the group wrestled you into a container and you were able to hear them binding it shut from the outside. You’re not sure how long you’ve been inside this tiny space for. You’ve lost all conception of time in this container. You stopped hearing the voices of the people things a long time ago. At some point the container opens and you find yourself free and able to slither around your forest home again. Is there anything you wanna do with your newfound freedom from the container?
>>6119821Wait god dammit. The vine knows how to speak common and undercommon so it can absolutely understand speech. I’m just gonna say the vine was so dazed and awestruck by the forced consciousness expansion that it couldn’t at that moment.
>>6119821Slither up a tree for safety, then assess the situation, how did the container open and can we detect anyone nearby.
You wriggle around as you begin slithering towards a tree. You realize that the box was on top of sand that continues for about ten feet before you eventually touch grass again. You detect a tree and slowly climb up to the top for safety before assessing your area. Although you don’t have the sense of sight, through hearing and your plant senses you know that there’s two people things down on the sandy area you started at, and you realize they must have opened your box. Since you were exposed back to the air and started moving, it seems the two have been completely frozen still. One of the people things comments to the other, “Dammit, Maveth, why you say me to open the box! We’re gonna die by a murder vine!” The people thing whisper yells at its companion hoping you don’t hear. “No we won’t, you dope. We can literally just walk away with how slow it is.” The other people thing retorts back. “Orcs are so stupid I swear.” It adds- sprinkling in a tasteful peppering of casual racism. This causes the orc people thing to break its fear induced paralysis long enough to punch the other one in its arm. After they’re done speaking you become aware of a bag wrapped around your body with heft to it. You use your smaller tendrils to handle and examine the bag and find that it’s full of a ton of little circular objects and that the bag makes a jingling sound when shaken. The people things who awakened you must have left this for you as a gift.(You have 150 gold coins in a bag.)
>>6119899Thank them for freeing us from that stuffy box, but also admonish them for calling us a murder vine, we haven't murdered anyone! (Have we?)
>>6119941You want to say something to the people things below but quickly realize you have no mouth or other way of vocalizing. You toss down a few of those little jingly sounding circles in your bag thinking that they would take them as a gift. The people things bend over to pick up the gold coins you tossed down with your mossy hyper dextrous plant tendrils and study the coins for a moment. They come off as being puzzled. Mavuth turns to the orc again, “I think it’s given us a gift? That’s strange. I mean you saw it open up that bag and toss these down to us. Do you think it wants something?” Mavuth asks. The orc pockets his share of the coins and stares at you in disbelief before diverting his gaze to Mavuth again. “The vine went up tree from us and gave us gold. Murder vines don’t act like that.” The orc thinks aloud. Mavuth looks right at you. “Vine, if you can understand me, tap the tree loudly three times.” Mavuth says curiously.(-5 GP)(Our vine has killed maybe one or two people for food prior to its awakening.)
>>6119962Tap the tree three times. Maybe these people will bring us to more prey.
>>6119965+1
I wonder if we could pay someone to make some sort of armor that could fit us. Communicating that deal wouldn't be easy though.
>>6119965>>6119974You use a tendril to knock on the bark of the tree you’re resting on three times. As you finish rapping your tendril against the wood, the two people things seem to relax a bit but are still wary. They move forward about thirty feet up the dirty path away from your tree. “Well, if you want to follow us to town, you’re welcome to.” Mavuth tells you. The orc gives Mavuth a look like she’s fucking insane but says nothing.
>>6120008Yeah you can get armor for non-humanoid creatures but it just costs more since it needs to be custom fitted.https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Armor
>>6120009I'd say we tentatively follow behind them, sticking to the trees as much as possible, and if not possible we keep some ground between us and them.
Very worried of these guys selling us off in town as an exotic pet, but since we haven't experienced treachery I think our vine fellow is more worried about immediate danger.
>>6120053>>6120054You follow the two people things. Along the way you realize Mavuth is human and female. The two humanoids easily keep out of your range due to your speed and continue to keep at a safe distance until you all get near the town they’re bringing you to. When you near the town, they finally let you get close to them knowing that they can get help if you attack. This makes them trust you more. You depart the forest and enter grasslands. Eventually you leave the trail and the three of you begin walking along a river. As you crest the gentle rise of the grasslands, the hamlet of Erminster comes into view. Nestled in a lush valley, it lies alongside a modest river, where a large boat is moored, its hull casting a long shadow on the shimmering water. A crew of orcs busily sorts through goods, their voices raised in gruff laughter, while villagers look on with a mix of fear and defiance. The small drawbridge arches over the river, allowing both boats and villagers to cross, but today, its significance is heavier. The atmosphere is tense yet still, as the orcs await a community representative, their intentions unclear. The buildings, constructed from timber and stone, appear tranquil, with smoke curling from chimneys and the scent of blooming flowers wafting through the air. Villagers move cautiously, exchanging worried glances, but for now, violence has not erupted. You sense an undercurrent of anxiety, a palpable tension as you draw closer. Erminster’s serene beauty now contrasts sharply with the looming threat of the orcish crew, hinting that beneath its charming exterior, this hamlet holds a story of conflict and resilience waiting to unfold.
Rolled 1 (1d2)>>6119809you could do it like this here :"dice+1d2" in the options box
>>6120130Thanks for the heads up
>>6119836Idea : as we lack Lungs for communication, we need to use our body to write the words we want to convey - something we practced while in the box.>>6120012>Armored VineWe're Ferrothorn now.>>6120089What are we supposed to do?Usual advice for new QM is to end the post with Greentext option like >Go on a murder spree>Go buy a Rotisserie Chicken>Attempt to communicate with the strange meatbags teammate>Write in
>>6120149I’m just used to DnD. You just do whatever you wanna really. Write whatever you like.
>>6120154Spell out W_H_A_T__D_O_? to Mavuth
>>6120089I'd say we just keep following our acquaintances, sticking closer to them so everyone knows we're not just some lone monster.>>6120159We can do this too if we know how to write words, might give us some useful information about the orcs.
