Last time, you bested the Warden of Hell in a cunning game to secure everyone’s freedom! Who knew that a place that never saw joy before would be filled with it now? Eventually, the massive cheers subside, but not the spirit that brought them. You have to move before Quye cannot feasibly keep his end of the deal.

As requested, every single prisoner who participated in the game, the people supporting you in this room, and Dempsey will be able to kiss this place goodbye. You’ll use the escape route you’re accustomed to. It’s the best you can do, not easier on the logistics side, but going out through the front door is impossible even with Quye’s help. It's not like you were expecting anything differently.

Surprisingly, the demon warden handed over a stretcher for the fallen boxer — A sign of respect, perhaps? Hard to tell for you. Before you can figure out how to handle the injured man, the Prisoner Twins grab each handle to take the mantle. Least they could do, they said. You’ll let them figure out how to go through the hole...

Mark leads the charge down the escape hole, and with the non-prisoners taking precedence (You waved goodbye to Judith, and she waved back!), then the prisoners, you’re killing time waiting at the cell.

“Warden, are you leaving with us? A man like you has no future here after this blunder.” Crossbill is interested in what will be Quye’s future whereabouts.

“Not having a future never stopped me from doing what I please.” Quye isn’t interested in answering.

“The big wigs aren’t going to be happy no matter who’s head ends up on a platter! If you decide to face the consequences and stay, you’ll never see the light of day! Not much of a threat to our Vitamin D-deficient man, but I thought it’d be worth a shout. Being a criminal has its own freedom. See you later.” Solomon says before jumping into the hole.

“C’mon, I gotta make sure you don’t raise your fist in the air and promise to drag us all back in here...” Crossbill’s misgivings are more about his role outside here than if he’s leaving or not.

“I have my target.” Quye wants to snap your neck. This isn’t good.

“A duel by the sunset doesn’t sound half bad…” Dempsey awakens. “Let us face once more.” The boxer wants to take the responsibility.

“You alright, big man?” You ask the wounded fighter.

“These are nothing but scratches.” Dempsey half chuckles, he can’t move at all. “Quye, you couldn’t be proud about how our last fight went.”

“The shame is for you to bear. You decided to begin a fight carrying those injuries.” Quye retorts, no compassion.

“You don’t see the bigger picture, fiend? I’d say I got what I wanted, my allies are leaving unscathed.” Rolling Thunder chuckles. “Wouldn’t you say the score remains tied?” He raises an eyebrow.

“Fine. But outside these walls, your life is meaningless to me.” Quye will kill Dempsey.

“Outside of the walls, you’ll never experience victory again.” Dempsey retorts.

“We figured out how to take you out of here.” Squarefelix says to the group.

“It’ll be as fast as you can say rematch, mustache! Haha! I’m funny!” Roundbert is ready to help.

After that, the last part of your group is going through the escape route, until another man-made (?) earthquake shakes the area. Agent Mage shouts to get out of there quickly, the exit will collapse soon if you don’t get your ass out! But you have allies still in the prison! You need to help them, right?!

What do you do?!

>You can’t leave Suan De and Mama Bodil in there, you need to help them!
>You led Odetta on a wild goose chase! You need to help her!
>Escape. You believe the others can handle themselves!

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical! There are no Critical Failures anymore!

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

As the earth continues to rumble, being the last one in the escape route makes you make a quick decision! You’ll keep going upstream to help your allies who are still stuck on the other floors! Suan De and Mama Bodil will need more than a hand with the route closed. With your intentions becoming apparent, your allies raise their voices.

“Wait, where are you going, Knockout?!” Crossbill realizes you went past the hole!

“I got buddies still up there! They need me!” You shout back.

“Hey! Bud! I’ll go with ya!” Big guy Brutus is ready! “These arms are made to bend chicks and steel! And romance is not hard for me to find!”

“Let’s partner up too! I can pick any lock, love. Please!” Birthday gal Beth is ready to do this.

“The young for the old is not a trade a wise man can agree with! Rahul has your back.” Rahul will jump into the fray.

“Bro! You’re my bro! I have gotten hurt for causes I believe in less than I do you! I’m in, ready to die!” Dylan is ready to tackle any challenge.

“Don’t even believe for a moment that I’m going to help you lot escape a second time.” Quye warns the overzealous prisoners, which doesn’t seem to deter them.

“Oi! Why not?! You fuckin’ scam!” Gregory feels cheated.

“Like we need your help...” Zyra doesn’t care.

“If that’s your way to deter us, it simply won’t work.” Walter crosses his arms.

“Not to trample your enthusiasm, young ones. But I have a better reason. It’s ill-advised for this many people to do this pursuit under these circumstances.” Wigmar brings reason to the fanatics. “20-something people in there will be the end of you.”

“Yeah, logistics don’t look good…” Gregory grits his teeth.

“Matters not, I have rocked with bad equipment before.” Baz believes he will find a way.

“There must be something we can do, why can I never come up with something…?” Iris has been thinking this entire time for a solution.

“Warden. Your end of the bargain included Phil Noon, didn’t it?” Dunja argues with the Warden.

“As far as I’m concerned, once you step out of that hole, my deal is fulfilled.” Quye retorts.

“But he did not, and I’m sure we’re still within the prison’s perimeter.” Dunja passionately argues. You didn’t think she cared.

“Her assertion is correct on all accounts. Do you want to argue with the referee?” Annelien agrees as she shows the little bird in her hands.

“Be a man and die in the hole!” Carmella urges the bald man.

Quye doesn’t respond.

“Who needs a coward…” Zyra bitterly mutters.

“I would’ve gone myself if I knew you’d stay here.” Hanno sounds disappointed.

“No! Can’t let anyone get hurt! In fact…” Cocoa gets by the hole. “Hey!!! Come back!!! I won’t let anyone die on my watch, either!”

“I’m fine, everyone! Trust me! Just go!” You reassure to the good folks.

“Let the chap go. He made up his mind.” Dempsey acknowledges the role reversal between you two.

“It’s the least we can do. He saved us all, we must believe in him.” Tihana is praying for you.

“We’ll make sure everyone here gets out safe and sound, Phil Noon!” Roundbert shouts.

“These brothers never break a promise!” Squarefelix raises his voice for the first time.

“Get out of here safe, Noon! Ms. Calamity and I are expecting you out of these walls!” Judith believes you!

Another violent earth movement, you press onward faster than ever!

“Crap, the earth is shaking faster, what’s going on?!” Gregory is losing his footing. “Why now?! Why are they screwin’ the kid?!”

“Who cares?! Run, Phil! Make it out alive!” Tatianna shouts for you!

“NOOOOO!!! Phil!!! Please! We need to meet again!!!” Sally doesn’t want to live in a world without you!

“He’ll be fine! Keep going steady and push through, Phil!” Zyra joins them!

“Phil… Please…” Beth is too worried!

“We’re not losing one of the good ones, now! Go on!” Brutus believes!

“Aren’t you glad you didn’t get in like a bunch of fools? Hmm?” Sasha half-jokes.

“Screw you! I’m going in!” Crossbill tries to sneak into the hole without thinking. Agent Mage grabs her!

“C-Can’t let you back in! We did this to get you out!” Agent Mage remembers what the mission is.

“G-Get your hands off me! Gah!” Crossbill hates the bearded man.

“It’s fine…! He reached Floor D!” Mark assures everyone as he taps his earpiece.

“He… did? He did! Oh the stars, he did!” Crossbill was worried for a moment.

The room collectively breathes a sigh of relief.

“...Fascinating kid.” Solomon plays with his mustache. Judith nods back to him.

So, you began climbing really fast during all the shouting. You managed to reach Floor D with some luck. You felt like a mole escaping a snake. Alarms are blaring, and a loud commotion is growing. Things aren’t going peacefully here.

“J-Johnny! Why did you have to do that?!” Bubbles is upset at how risky this was!

“Sorry, I didn’t think there’d be another explosion.” You would’ve liked to have been informed of that. “Also, codenames.”

“S-Sorry, I was really worried, you know. I mean, I’m not as bad as Vera, she almost fainted.” Bubbles apologizes.

“I did faint, but I recovered quickly! Not emotionally, I’m a mess! A big mess! Now save Mama Bodil, damn it!” Vera shouts. A barrage of Hiccups can be heard in the background.

You tell Bubbles to apologize to the rest of HQ for you.

Now you need to move!

You seem to have something in your pocket.

It’s a golf ball! It says good luck written on it! That’s weird…

Oh, and also a key! It’s for the cell you’re in. No need for Philonune to do extra work.

Prisoners and guards alike are running through the hallways. From one side you can hear that the commotion is due to the explosions that caused the earthquakes, from the other side, you think it’s a battle between guards and prisoners. The latter is likely to be where Suan De is, but the former could explain what’s going on in the prison.

What do you do?

>Turn invisible and go to the heart of the issue. Find Suan De and Mama Bodil.
>These explosions suck, find why they’re happening before helping the Slob Dragon.

You should head towards the part where the war rages on. As previously described, Floor D doesn’t bother with the luxury of isolating its criminals, jails hold one too many convicts behind their bars. All configured for the comfort of their guards. Shorter rounds. Fewer inspections. No concerns for the convicts’ well-being. Neglect and cruelty are the same in these hallways, anyone stashed here was left to rot and not much else. If there’s a place where guards are most despised, it’s here.

That’s Bubbles’ initial briefing. Now it’s Headphones’ turn! She and Neko are the ones helping Suan De after all! She’s describing the chaotic battlefield…

As stated before, the straightforward duel between Slob Dragon and Velenius evolved into a contest to see who could apprehend the largest number of revolting criminals. A group of convicts led by former cultist Hubbard planned to defeat Velenius together, he congregated a number of flame users for the task, but bad timing on Suan De’s part led to this.

As the fight continued, Slob Dragon recruited Mama Bodil, and Velenius recruited SCI Officer Perez to help him.

But new details arrived while you were doing your own thing. Headphones and the others realized that the sudden disappearance of some of the flame users was due to them being teleported to join your stupid game of Guess Whom is it? Without knowing, you gave Suan De a helping hand! Go you!

What’s left of the organized group is composed of mafia members under the banner of the Third Titan known as the Cobra, Hubbard the former cultist, and WILDFLAME. With the duel reoriented, there’s a symbol floating over the targets’ heads. Most, if not all, have been taken out. The duel is 30 points a piece.

The major holdup stopping this event from coming to a close is that the Superhero is overwhelming both sides. He didn’t do much until his allies disappeared, as he believed that this wasn’t the righteous path, but after that? He had to make his move! It was easy for the Titan to convince him to help. The Cobra is a very persuasive and cunning man, or the superhero is a moron, your decision to make.

That, plus the weight of defeating 30 men a piece in such a close encounter have caused both Slob Dragon and the Knight to have overexerted themselves and now neither can bring the hero down.

But that just describes half the chaos. Hubbard’s backup was to overwhelm security by letting the prisoners out, regardless of alliance. Didn’t do much for them, as they can’t withdraw from the area for being active parts of the duel. Now the guards and the prisoners are fighting it out as the panic and chaos engulf the fourth step to hell.

And that’s the whole picture. You have a tied duel between your and the enemy’s factions, a target who can’t be defeated by either, two targets who want nothing to do with this fight and want to escape, and a seemingly pointless war between guards and prisoners.

HQ is suggesting some options, you can weigh your own too.

What do you do?

>Talk to WILDFLAME! Reveal who you are! You’re a friend! With his help, you can easily turn the tides.

Keeping things simple, is keeping them smart. You’ll join Suan De’s side of the fight and defeat WILDFLAME, the best way to do it is to convince him to lose to your side. The worst way to do it is old school with your own fists. You’ll figure out things as you go.

With one destination in mind, HQ leads you to where the conflict is being carried out. Chaos comes from one direction until you’re in the middle of it, then it’s everywhere, so you need a guiding hand. Dressed as a guard, you’ll grab the attention of one part of the crowd, so with your invisibility on, you traverse the hallways as safely as a man can go through a violent crowd trying to fend off a well-trained squad with riot shields. Nobody says much about stalemates being this violent. This is pure chaos!

After dodging what felt like hundreds of people fighting, you reach the part of the prison where the duel is being held. Unlike the floors below you, the hallways are remarkably bigger and more spacious. You can look up to cells from above, unlike Floor E and F, here there are various rows of cells that are still considered the same floor. This place feels big enough to hold a football match, and that’s what you’re going to stick with.

Bodies are lying around, there’s an indicator showing what ‘team’ got them. Red for your team, and Blue for Velenius. There’s a panel floating above the Flying Referee (Another one of the Blue Birds your team snuck in) with the scores. 30 a piece like you were told.

The picture is clear. Slob Dragon by one side, the Knight Velenius by the other. And in the middle, WILDFLAME who looks focused in a way you’ve never seen before. Above by a guardrail, there’s the old man you remember punching from the first cult raid you did, that must be Hubbard. Standing next to him must be Kobra, a gloomy-looking guy, whose hair is holding a giant fake eye. There’s a white symbol above their heads, noting that they haven’t been defeated by either side yet.

Resting behind their allies, you see Mama Bodil by the Dragon’s side, and a SCI Agent by the knight’s one. There’s no Crimzone activated for whatever reason.

At this point, commotion-wise, this place is the most chill on the floor…

You drop your invisibility…

“Dragon, I’m here to help!” You show up at long last!

“Oh? Another visitor?” Velenius doesn’t seem bothered.

“I apologize for taking this long.” Suan De doesn’t begrudge the fact you’re here to lend a hand.

“Don’t feel bad, we’re doing wonderful together!” Velenius chuckles.

“Guard. Stay away from this area!” WILDFLAME has no intention of hurting civilians.

“He’s no guard, Flame! Don’t be fooled!” The man you assume is Cobra yells at him from above.

“He’s right, I’m here to ask you to concede the match in exchange for your freedom. I give you my word.” You propose.

“Don’t water down our match, sir…” Velenius knows he’s fucked if the superhero agrees.

“What about his friends? Hmm? Are you going to leave us here?” The mafia guy Cobra (?) wants in on the deal.

Feels like victory hinges on this answer.

What do you do?

>“WILDFLAME, these people aren’t your friends! I am! Don’t you remember my voice?” Bet it all on getting recognized.
>“Sure, why not? Just don’t be a bother.” You probably already helped a couple of bad criminals, what’s one more?
>“Slob Dragon, now!” WILDFLAME is distracted! Let Suan De take the victory!

There’s no way you can trust those two. This old cook Hubbard keeps worming into so many situations, and always stands on the bad side each time! You can’t bring yourself to ally yourself with anyone who willingly teams up with him! Except for WILDFLAME, he doesn’t know better. Just like Amelia, you have to set dummies straight.

“WILDFLAME, these people aren’t your friends! I am! Don’t you remember my voice?” You’ll convince the big man!

“Ah! Yes, good citizen! I’ll never forget my buddies from the Streets of Maramchunia!” WILDFLAME confuses you with someone else or is making up shit. Regardless, this is kinda working as intended.

“Yeah! That happened!” You nod even though you feel this is wrong. “Look, I know you’d hate to hear this. But they’re manipulating you for their own schemes!”

“You’re right, close friend! I do dislike the words coming out of your mouth… But what gives? What could make you possibly doubt these upstanding members of our society?” WILDFLAME is totally puzzled.

“Like, for one, they’re in *this* prison *as* prisoners. And, like, look at them, they look evil!” You point out the obvious!

“I-I don’t look evil! I’m old! Respect your elders, brat!” Hubbard feels insulted by what you’re insinuating. “This demonic voice… I recall it faintly…” He’s realizing something about you. Quickly, you better change targets!

“The other guy has an eyeball in his hair! That’s comically evil guy style!” You point out.

“I-It’s Yuropean fashion...” The man covers his third eyeball.

“No Yuropean has ever fought for justice! Could it be that I’ve been fooled again...?” WILDFLAME scratches his chin, he’s deep in thought.

The two duelists stop to watch your conversation unfold. Exhaustion is both physical and mental.

“Not going to take advantage?” Suan De notices the gallant knight putting away his ghostly weapon.

“Strike down an unsuspecting man? I'd rather have a breather.” Velenius chuckles as he stays down. “I’m not the phony you implied me to be! As troublesome as your bud’s intervention is, there’s no card under my sleeve to turn this around.”

“I won’t make a move either.” The Slob Dragon makes her name proud.

Their little exchange gave time to the mafia guy to come up with an excuse.

“You’re throwing many accusations. And I’ll come clean, I did as well. I was too hasty to consider you our enemy and for that, I apologize. If I knew you were acquaintances, I wouldn’t have spoken to you that way.” Probably-Cobra is cordial. “I was given the name Cobra, please use it as well.” Probably-Cobra reveals himself to be Cobra. What a revelation. “Flame and I met behind these bars, and our fondness quickly grew. Don’t cast us aside. I believe we can find mutual understanding.”

“After what he said about us, you’re giving him a chance?!” Hubbard doesn’t seem pleased with his ally trying to get buddy-buddy with you!

“Tension makes us act rash. I’m willing to admit my mistake and move on. We’re all friends of Flame, he’d hate watching us squabble.”

“Well said! It all should be water under the fridge. Mistakes happen, and heroes overlook them!” WILDFLAME thinks this is a big misunderstanding.

Cobra doesn’t care who he needs to ally himself with, he only wants out of this place.

What do you do?

Even if it is easier to concede, it wouldn’t be right. And these are the kinds of things that snowball out of control, so you gotta deal with them now.

“No, I can’t.” You stand firmly. “The old man is a former cultist who reigned terror all over the city! I know because I was the one who apprehended him!”

“I knew it! You’re the fake spirit!” Hubbard grits his teeth. “But beyond that, there’s something else that keeps bugging me! But that’s enough to fuel my ire.” He seems to be remembering part of the Bubble Dimension. He was one of the abusive teachers who worked for Ophelia.

“You admit your wickedness, you treacherous old man?!” WILDFLAME is pissed. He’s tired of being treated like an idiot.

“G-G-Gah…!” Hubbard freezes in place, mistake sinking in.

“You crossed that kind of line, eh? If Flame can’t back you, Cobra can’t associate with you either. Shame, your powers could’ve been useful.” Cobra laments but he’s willing to cut his losses.

“Cobra? Like the Youhao Mafia high-ranking officer? The Right Leg of Gianluigi Youhao? His number 3?! You’re a despicable criminal, you deserve to be here too!” You point that out as well!

“Hmm? You insinuated it like Flame doesn’t know. I renounced my wicked ways once we became buds.” Cobra never hid his past. Supposedly. “Once you’re in front of a hero, it puts everything in perspective. Medicine to my poison.”

“I’d like to believe my warmth can vanquish the evil in people’s hearts. That’s the NEW way to STARDOM.” WILDFLAME believes in a bigger good than before! He has grown since the last you saw him.

“It worked, Flame. You worry too much.” Cobra warmly smiles. “I’m not the only one who had a change of heart. The girl over there? The one working alongside your old friend, Flame? That’s another Titan in all her glory. If we’re pointing out numbers, she’s number 4 on the ladder. And I can’t feel the same cruelty I felt when I met her. She has changed like I did. That’s why your buddies are helping her.”

“Hahaha! You little snake! That desperate to bring *me* to your shouting match?!” Mama Bodil bursts into laughter.

“Can’t turn down this invitation!” Cobra laughs as well. “If she can turn the page, what makes *me* different?”

“I’m not a conniving little reptile for one…” Mama Bodil shakes her head.

“Can’t say you are a liar. I have a lot of growth to go through, but I’m committed.” Cobra agrees.

“TRUE! Some of us learn through denial and error.” WILDFLAME is convinced of his supposed friend’s good.

“WILDFLAME, if they were your real friends, they would know your greatest wish!” You interrupt. “You never stop talking about it!”

“I suppose I don’t! HAHAHA!” WILDFLAME is a little embarrassed by it.

“Yes, we know, reaching stardom and all that.” Cobra doesn’t see the big deal.

“You have no idea, do you?” You cross your arms looking all smug under your mask.

“…” Cobra notices you’re not bluffing, but he can’t back down now. “...Spit it out then.”

“A true ally of justice would know. Right, WILDFLAME?” You need to drive the point.

“TRUE.” WILDFLAME has been convinced by your insistence.

“…” Cobra has to come up with something.

“Don’t look at me, you threw me under the bus.” Hubbard frowns.

“I'd be surprised if this man can keep a secret! So you better know, lil’ snake.” Mama Bodil mocks.

“There goes my faint ray of hope.” Velenius is a tiny bit upset that the fight will end this way.

“So much effort to be bested like this.” SCI Officer Perez sighs as he drops on his back.

“We’re waiting for your answer, Cobra.” Slob Dragon urges.

“Took me a while to figure out who you are. Flame, I was mistaken, this woman is also —” Cobra realizes Slob Dragon’s identity, but it’s too little, too late! You raise your voice!

“Cobra, no matter what you say, nobody is going to believe you until you answer the question.” You get serious.

“Flame... dreams of world peace.” Cobra does his best guess. It’s not a bad one but…

“Nope, he wants someone to write him a theme song!” You smile.

“HAHAHAHA!~ Indeed, I’ve been waiting for so long!” WILDFLAME smiles from ear to ear. “Cobra… Your words truly touched me. The mirage you built through your lies became my illusion! And through illusions I built wishes! And through wishes I pursue DREAMS! And DREAMS *will* become REALITY! I pledge to you and the world, WILDFLAME will save the WORLD.”

“Then go get ‘em.” Cobra jumps from the guardrail and lands in front of Suan De. That had to hurt his knees. “You need two more to win. Go ahead. I’m done with charades...”

WILDFLAME stands next to him, and drops to his knees with a fist on the floor, head down. Waiting to be knocked down.

“Can’t net points without knocking ‘em out. I’m taking Cobra, hope you don’t mind…” Mama Bodil cracks her knuckles as she approaches.

“All yours.” Suan De raises her hand to knock the superhero out.

“Conserve your energy, officer. Let’s face defeat with dignity.” Velenius stops Agent Perez before he gets any funny ideas for some kill steals. What a scummy policeman!

Both WILDFLAME and Cobra were knocked out. The Score settles 32 to 30. The bird declares the Slob Dragon the winner of this match.

“Victory is yours, ladies and gents.” Velenius accepts defeat with a bow. “What is your wish, Ms. Dragon? How can I be of use? Or should I stand out of your way?”

This fight is over, but the war in the other area still rages on…

“Hey, Dragon, I hope you don’t mind if I bring this up, but our escape route has been compromised.” You don’t want to tell her what to do, but she needs to make an informed decision. Through your earpiece, you hear Headphones confirming it.

“Secure us another escape route out of this place, kid. Not a haphazard one.” Suan De’s request has been made.

“You want me to escort you out? Are you *that* sick of my presence?” Velenius jokes. “Very well, I’ll make it so.”

“Do I have to bring up that I have no obligation to follow this arrangement?” SCI Officer Perez asks as he prepares to move.

“You can, but it’d be rude.” You deadpan.

“If I were you, officer. I’d be more preoccupied with the riots around us.” Slob Dragon retorts.

“I’m not here for small fry.” The agent isn’t dissuaded. SCI guys seem like self-important types.

“I’ll make you feel like one if you bring that toy knife out, boy.” Mama Bodil cracks her knuckles.

“I’ve been told that the man you’re looking after is in this prison no more! You’d be wise to follow these hooligans’ route out of here if you wish to keep an eye on them.” Velenius suggests as he looks at his phone for a moment. You heard they are looking after someone, could it be one of the people you helped out? Your best bet is Solomon.

“Damn it, what’s Garcia doing...?” Agent Perez has no reason not to trust the knight.

“Not taking a nap like you did! You have nothing to complain about!” Velenius laughs. Perez was the one who got knocked out by the doppelganger Aurora faced. “There’s an emergency escape route for the guards you can use, it’ll lead you straight to the main gate. You won’t be fond of ladders after you’re done with them though. As long as I make clear what the path is and steer away from your way, that’s enough to fulfill the deal, right?”

“Yes. Or else you’ll face the consequences the referee deems appropriate.” Slob Dragon agrees with this. The Bird tweets that he’ll be comatose if he fails to accommodate. You would’ve liked to pull a Quye with him too, but whatever. You can’t control everything.

“The way to the elevator is blocked.” You point out.

“Haha, that’s no issue. Allow me to show you a little trick under my sleeve!” Velenius walks up to the wall and knocks on it! A secret door opens.

“What the…?” Agent Perez had no idea.

“Security didn’t tell you? They weren’t fond of you, huh?” Velenius shrugs.

“Thought everyone who said this place is an old dungeon was a moron. Guess I’m not as bright as I think I am!” Mama Bodil likes this nonsense. “Let’s get movin’! I need to get my answers!”

“We should take WILDFLAME with us…” You want to carry him.

“I’ll grab him, boy.” Mama Bodil barely struggles to bring the buff man up her shoulders.

“I’ll be going…” Agent Perez makes haste through the spiral staircase.

“Am I not going to get some last words, madam?” Velenius teases your hobo as she passes over him. “I gracefully bowed out of the match, is it too much to ask for a friendly acknowledgement?”

“I’ll entertain a rematch if our paths cross. I have nothing else to say, knight.” Suan De walks up the stairs.

“As sour as ever. I love her type.” Mama Bodil laughs.

“Not a phony anymore, hm? I’ll take it.” Velenius mutters to himself. His eyes divert to you and Bodil, mainly you. “You two turned the tides in her favor. I’m the one who is used to the heroic saves, but I’ve been humbled by my own tactics. She wouldn’t entertain a handshake, but neither of you two mind, right?”

Velenius extends his hand towards you...

“Yeah, thank you for not being a violent weirdo.” You shake his hand. A lot of sore losers are flame users…

...?! Something slips onto your hand, it’s a key!

“Huh?” You show it.

“It’s for the exit through the guard booth by the main gate. This should cover all bases for the escape.” Velenius explains once you realize what you’re holding. “Wanted to be slick with her, but didn’t get the chance.”

“Thanks, but this isn’t usually the type of trick I’d think of coming from a gallant knight.” You joke.

“I’m of a one-track mind. Once the idea seeps in, I have to do it!” Velenius admits he’s a little impulsive. Just a notch.

“I totally get you.” You nod as you feel a little kinship with this mentality.

“Huh? Isn’t that what’s normal for everybody?” Mama Bodil laughs to hide her confusion.

“In a way, yeah.” You agree. If you all three stay together, you may create too much chaos…

“Before you go, a friendly warning: I know they developed an unwonted security measure by the gates. Keeping Daemon Wielders behind bars has become incredibly difficult, and this is the result.” Velenius has some fondness for your group. “It’s its test run, if it goes well, they won’t need my services any longer.”

“Kid, be clear, what is it?” Mama Bodil doesn’t like the ambiguity.

“Hey, I wouldn’t be cryptic if I knew all the details. Just heard it’s a monster.” Velenius shrugs. You wonder if he’s talking about the Behemoth.

“Thanks for the warning, I mean it.” You nod. He nods back with a smile.

“I believe I’ll have to do the agent’s job. I know we’ll see each other again. Until then.” Velenius walks deeper into the chaos, away from the exit. He’s going to try to do some crowd control and restore some order.

“Okay, kid. We gotta go, or else the Spy Dragon is gonna leave us behind.” Mama Bodil wants you to hurry.

“I have to find someone else first, Mama Bodil. Here, have the key.” You hand over the spoils.

“Did you call me Mama, boy...?” Mama Bodil doesn’t remember adding you to her family.

“Y-Yeah.” You forgot you haven’t been initiated.

“...Keep that going. I like it!” Mama Bodil smiles from ear to ear. “Want me to lend you a hand with what you need to do?”

“I’d rather put WILDFLAME’s safety first. Go tell Dragon to clear the way. I got this.” You adjust your glasses.

“Love the confidence, kid! See you outside!” Mama Bodil finds this encounter oddly familiar as she moves to the stairs.

You communicate with Bubbles and the rest of HQ to learn about Spooky’s whereabouts. They haven’t been able to contact her since she talked to you, they know her spirit is around the Solitary Confinement Area. Cheese On Wheels (Spooky’s navi) says it’s around the top of the building on Floor A.

Last she heard, Agent Spooky astral projected from a locker room up there. They gave her a time limit to investigate before returning to her body. Honey Bunny is making her way there to protect Spooky, but can be called back to join Slob Dragon to the exit. She found her gap to escape, but the escape route was blocked by that point. It won’t take long for her to reach Spooky or join Slob Dragon. She’s in that sweet spot between them.

Nobody has a clue on how to find the spirit… What are you supposed to do?

...Hubbard is trying to sneak through the exit right in front of you like a cartoon character.

You applaud your team’s resourcefulness in making Honey Bunny move to safeguard Spooky’s body, so aside from praise, you’re going to keep your mouth shut about it. But what you can’t make peace with is what is happening right in front of you. Hubbard can’t escape!

“Where do you think you’re going, old man?” You raise your voice.

“G-Gah! I-I’m stretching. I need to use the steps for better form!” Hubbard acts like he’s about to reach them with the tip of his fingers before blasting away.

“That wasn’t stretching.” You grab the fossil by the collar and drag him back.

“Y-You’re very observant.” The old geezer says.

“And are *you*?” You ask. A plan is brewing in your head….

“W-What are you trying to say?” Hubbard doesn’t know what you’re implying.

“I need a guy with an eye for the otherworldly. I know you can see the spiritual potential in people.” You say. “Tell me, how good are you with ghosts?”

“Apparitions? Unless they’re intrinsically tied to humanity, I struggle to differentiate such forces.” Hubbard can feel he can escape jail if he cooperates.

“Explain it on the way, but be quick. We’ll be going to the top, and I need you to be discreet.” You need all the information you can. Both of you step into the spiral staircase. It’s shockingly empty.

“If the spirit truly becomes immaterial, I cannot distinguish it from smoke. Demons, animals, plants, and such are nothing but noise as well.” Hubbard tries to be concise. “Those who haven’t been gone for long and maintain a strong grasp of Earth, those I can see.”

“What do you see in me?” You ask.

Hubbard closes his eyes and concentrates. “A weak soul dwarfed by its own potential, enshrouded by a malignant being… What a peculiar form.”

“You can only see them with your eyes closed?” You raise your only visible eyebrow.

“It is only in a dark plain where it all becomes clear to me, the fires of might become brighter. At night I thrive.” In short, Hubbard is weak to light. Closing his eyes is a cheat code.

“So I take it astral projection is fine, right?” You make sure.

“W-We’re chasing fairy tales?!” Hubbard is worried about his safety. He doesn’t believe this is going to work.

“You’re in for a surprise. Look for a girl with dark hair and a mischievous grin.” You can’t stop feeling cocky after knowing he’s in for a big shock.

“I-If I aid your efforts, what is there for me?” Hubbard wants to make a deal.

“We’ll figure it out later, old man. Just be happy you avoided the beating that you deserve for now.” You won’t be too mean to him just yet. No need for extra animosity.

After several minutes of impossibly long stairs, you set foot on Floor A. Took you a moment to figure out how to open the secret passage from the inside, after making sure you know how to get back, you’re ready to go. Unlike with Floor D, you end up in a random hallway, with no jail cells around. This building’s architecture is not that consistent.

To give some context about this floor, this section is where most of the guards prepare their day-to-day activities. It’s the cleanest, most well-maintained floor, with a beautiful view of the outside. Truly a safe haven. But that’s half the story. The other half has its own share of prisoners — and more importantly in your case — Solitary Confinement. That’s what your brilliant assistant says. You praise Bubbles’ efforts, she praises you back for your work so far! You have come up clutch more than once in everyone’s view!

Bubbles adds that Honey Bunny has been guarding Spooky’s body for a good bit and no one has shown up. Not a soul has visited the locker room, pun intended. Most of the guards were called to the floors below due to the massive chaos, there are better chances that you find a janitor than another peer.

Hubbard says he sees *two* spirits matching your description, but you stand too far away to be able to tell in detail. He might be mistaken.

Should you take your mask off to pretend to be a guard?

“Hey.” You take your mask off, and show the old man the handcuffs that came with the outfit. “It’s less suspicious if I put these on you.”

“Very well thought. Don’t forget about ‘em when we’re outside!” Hubbard complies in a friendly but phony way. He’s trying, but he doesn’t like you.

“Lead the way.” You ignore it.

“I-It’s in that direction.” Hubbard points through the wall in front of you diagonally. “I have no knowledge of the layout, so at best I’m a human compass. I pray this doesn’t come out as a disappointment.” He doesn’t want to upset you.

“It’s fine, we’ll figure it out on the way.” You don’t have any reason to get mad at this.

And that’s what you did for the most part, at some point — not exactly out of necessity — but a fellow guard doing rounds helped you find your way, believing that Hubbard is meant to go to Solitary Confinement. Funny how that worked out for you. He also mentioned that some floors are being evacuated to hold a stronghold at a mid-level to trap the rioting prisoners below the surface. And that the Elevators are unusable at the moment. Ultimately, he remarked that work-shy guards like you and him shouldn’t bother with what’s happening below.

You found it interesting he didn’t mention the intruders. But if there are no words about what you did either, and since communications were hijacked and with all the panic around, it isn’t especially eyebrow-raising.

You arrive at the Solitary Confinement Hallway.

All renovations stopped here, this place is an old-timey dungeon from a medieval novel. Walls made out of stone, decorative torches on the wall (they have light bulbs), and old picturesque paintings hanging on the walls. They’re wild pictures of various demonic forms. A thin veil covers the place, it makes you feel lighter, at peace even to the point of numbness. Philonune agrees with this.

There are two desks facing each other, both with their receptionist, and both men are busy reading books. One is an older gentleman of short stature, and his counterpart is taller and ghastly. They’re wearing similar knightly uniforms to Velenius’. They work here, you assume.

“Young one, welcome. This must be your first time here as your face doesn’t feel familiar.” The old gentleman smiles at you.

“Don’t count on your memories, old friend. There are a lot of things you seem to be forgetting.” The young man chuckles. His voice’s pitch is uneven.

“Huh, yeah, first time here.” You say. Turning your head to one and the other.

“You seem to be special guests then.” The younger man softly smiles as he puts his book away.

“Please, if you seek to punish this man for misbehaving, reconsider. Here are only welcomed those who gravely sinned.” The old gentleman warns you.

“Y-You’re not leaving me here, are you?” Hubbard realizes this might end badly for him. You aren’t planning on doing something like that, but this could serve well for your charade.

“I want to show him that room.” You point at the one Hubbard told you about. “Y’know, to scare him a little…”

“Won’t work well if you tell him beforehand, friend.” The younger guard chuckles.

“Well, I’m not above a good joke…” The older gentleman grabs the key on the wall. “Please, follow me.”

You follow the tiny old gentleman. He’s wobbling first, then Hubbard, then you — and the other receptionist at the back. He unlocks the door like breaking open a bad curse, not that you know a lot about it…

“Hoho.” The old gentleman closes it back. He can’t stop chuckling. “Excuse me! I forgot there’s someone in here!”

“That’s better. It’ll scare this old fart to see them.” You say.

“Accompanied confinement, what a revolutionary concept within these walls. Or perhaps not.” The younger receptionist sensibly chuckles.

“If you say so!” The tiny gentleman opens the door… “Call me back when you’re done.” He wobbles away, leaving the door wide open.

The scene inside is chilling. There’s a convict on the floor, leg chained to the wall, wearing an iron helmet with enough tiny holes to mistake for a bowling ball…

But more importantly (if you don’t care about some poor guy suffering) behind him on the wall, there’s one of those paintings you mentioned… But this one, the character in it looks familiar… the anguished expression calls back to one of the moments in Dream Hill that stuck with you. A girl pleading not to die. It’s the same face! It must be Jaylene!

And not only that, a flame-like aura surrounds its frame. An entity’s ability most likely. Odetta is trying to break it with her own bare ghostly hands. It’s more akin to someone lock-picking it than a punching bag strategy, but if you didn’t know any better, it’d look like she’s bashing a keyboard. Can you blame her for being frustrated? She must’ve been here for a while.

The noise grabs Spooky’s attention, she turns back and sees you all, a gleam of hope appears in her eyes. A rare sight for you. She dives back into your phone, and you answer this ‘call.’

“Congratulations, you weren’t wrong. She’s in that thing. I don’t give a shit about why for now.” Odetta sounds stressed but there’s a tint of hopefulness in her words. “Tell me if you know another way to break a curse, aside from killing the guy who made it.”

“Let’s find out.” You say. “Hubbard, any idea how to break her out?” You get close to the painting.

“C-Can we figure this out outside?! I’ll carry it if need be! I have contacts who deal in these topics that we can find if that eases your worries!” Hubbard suggests. Hard to trust him knowing what type of guy he is, this deal even sounds like a way to ensure his freedom…

“Hey, are you going to ignore me…? This is *not* cool. I do *not* vibe with this.” The half-dead prisoner feels offended.

Before someone can acknowledge the one thing that nobody wants to acknowledge, shouts come from the outside, you recognize the voice as the nice lazy guard that guided you here.

“G-Guys!” The guard shouts, shutting the door behind. “W-We have issues, t-there’s an intruder…!”

Uh-oh, you assume this is the same intruder that has been causing chaos throughout the day! You know, Mr. Explosion-Earthquake man! That’s the title you’ll go with until you figure out what they look like. Maybe you should stick to calling them a piece of shit. You’ll ask Bubbles for her opinion later…

“We don’t have time for this.” Spooky grits her teeth. “If that’s the bastard messing with all our shit today, go break their teeth!”

“R-Run! Let’s run away! Let’s be wise…!” Hubbard has other ideas.

“Acknowledge me…” The Prisoner weeps.

You were so close to leaving, but it’s never that easy in the end…

Sadly, this is all we have for this week’s thread. Thanks for playing! And see you next time!
