“It has been… Sister Celestine.”

Celestine eyes drifted toward the thing. Should she be in a different location, she would have cleaved the thing in half. Seeing that the thing was inside the most holiest of places with Chaplain Gabriel, she doubted she was facing a foe.

“And what is this?”

“Subject Ninety-Nine, creation of Ordo Xenos under Lord Inquisitor Kryptman to combat the ongoing tyranid invasions.” Chaplain Gabriel said. “She is here as the conclave is being prepared.”

“I see.” Celestine said.

“On what mission have you been sent to be summoned in Terra?” Chaplain Gabriel said.

Celestine’s beautiful visage twisted into a holy hatred in her worrying grimace. Ninety-Nine flinched at the bright searing light emanating from Celestine. The light that touched Ninety-Nine did not damage her, but the warmth of the radiance instead swelled her heart with an energy that she did not understand.

“The heart of Terra is in danger, a great calamity will occur and the threat is within the Imperium’s high command. The God-Emperor has sent me to find the heretic shrouded by foul magic.” Celestine said. “I suppose I will be needing your assistance once again, Chaplain.”

“Then it will be brief.” Chaplain Gabriel said. “I am here to represent the Chaplaincy of the watch fortress I reside in in this conclave.”

“What is the conclave about?”

“Imperium Nihilus, and who shall be sent to investigate the lost inquisitors. Perhaps there is corruption within the inquisition, those with vile intent influenced by the dark powers.”

Celestine glanced at Ninety-Nine.

“Yes… it will not be the first time an inquisitor has been tricked into creating something that would condemn billions of souls when it was meant to save the Imperium.” Celestine withheld a sigh. “But I also know there are righteous inquisitors as well. I will first speak with the Lord Commander.”

Celestine noticed the intense focus of Ninety-Nine.

"What is it, Subject Ninety-Nine?"

“You’re very pretty Lady Celestine!”

Celestine stared at Ninety-Nine for a solid ten seconds.

“Thank you, Ninety-Nine.” Celestine paused, staring at Ninety-Nine’s face then gazed back at Chaplain Gabriel. “I will see you again.”

The training lasted another hour. Ninety-Nine learned the basics of CQC. While an hour was not enough, a firm foundation was established. Steam rose from Ninety-Nine’s body, but no sweat dripped from her exoskeleton.

“That will be all for today. Follow the servitor to clean yourself.”

“By myself?”

“How were you bathed again?”

“A servitor sprays water on me with a really nice feeling hose.”

Chaplain Gabriel was silent for a few seconds.

“I see. Wait here.”

Ninety-Nine was led by an Ultramarine through various route descending below the palace. The lights grew dimmer, the smell of metal and damp rags spread throughout the tall and far halls. Ninety-Nine was led inside a ceramite room, complete with a clean bed, table, and a closet. Another room contained a tub and a shower head. The large room (by Ninety-Nine’s standard) allowed the astartes to fit inside without an issue.

“What is this place?”

“Your room until you are summoned by the conclave.” The astartes answered. “The instructions to bathe will be inside the bathing room.”

“What’s a bathing room.”

“The room over there.” The astartes pointed. “The room where you clean yourself. You are allowed to roam the palace grounds but must wear this collar and a robe which is inside that box.”

The astartes handed Ninety-Nine a sleek gold collar and a data-slate.

“Until you are summoned, You will have lessons with Sister Catherine and combat tutors. You will obey everyone who are astartes and custodians, am I understood?”

Ninety-Nine nodded.

“Yes, battle-master!” Ninety-Nine said.

“Good.”

Ninety-Nine took some time familiarizing herself with the room. After that, Ninety-Nine…

The other Kryptman experiments/love interests.

Half eldar, Name 006, intended to prove humanity is the ultimate answer which somehow translates into a soul that doesn't get yoinked by Slanesh? Either some kind of goth chuuni or some version of Bond like Sean Connery but with occasional bouts of teenage awkwardness.

The Half Orc Mechanic, 43. Some kind of himbo idiot savant, or Speed Racer. Given a backstory by Kryptman that some ork warboss killed his parents and he needs to invent something to defeat him? K-Man left him on the back burner as stable but prone to distraction.

Some kind of blind human psyker or navigator (luv me Calia from Rogue Trader). 99's presence in the warp is somehow calming or at least keeps the voices away.

Reading through the past threads and enjoying it. Came across the possible romance question and had to drop in.

To add to the potential love options, maybe someone involved with the mechanicus? They seem to treat 99 like an equal.
>>
>>6158397
Well there was a female mechanicus who fucked ciaphas cain (her of the imperium) so I can see that as a possibility. Though I need to work on writing a romance subplots and finding the right candidates that makes sense. Unfortuantely, I'd like to keep 99 as the only experiment, since Kryptman was a tyranid specialist.

Ninety-Nine chose to explore above. Ninety-Nine let the steam die off first, then donned her red and gold robe, ensuring that her tail and facial features were hidden. Inside the closet, she saw a porcelain face mask with intricate replica of a human face. Ninety-Nine’s eyes lit up and gladly wore the mask. She stood at the mirror, with the hooded robe and porcelain mask, she looked so human.

Yet. She was not.

Nevertheless, Ninety-Nine giggled at the close resemblance. Through the cold stair case and the grave lift, Ninety-Nine found herself once again inside the Imperial Palace. Most menials and minor officers ignored Ninety-Nine, being a tall figure in draped in red cloak and porcelain masks, most assumed she was a noble or some important figure.

“Indomitus is what I hear…”

“Truly? Then it is not long.”

Ninety-Nine heard the tiny whispers shared amongst the people. Indomitus, crusade, Office Sheer Logi Scrotum, whatever that one meant. While Ninety-Nine did not understand the whole meaning of the whispers, she knew something big was going to happen. Until Hive-Father told her otherwise, she would be on her merry way.

“Merida?”

The woman from Eve walked alongside a shorter woman with pale skin and black hair tied into a bun. Merida’s eyes widened. She dropped her crate and wondered what would some noble want with her.

“Merida it’s me!” Ninety-Nine said. “I saved you from the jeans cult back in Eve!”

“Y—Your ladyship… forgive me but I don’t know who you are.” Merida said. “I’ve never been to Eve or even know where that is.”

Ninety-Nine cocked her head.

“Oh…” Ninety-Nine said. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, my lady. I must be going. I need to have these documents delivered to Anna-Murza Jek.”

Ninety-Nine watched Merida and the other woman scurry off.

Ninety-Nine chose to follow Merida, she had to recognize her!

“It’s me, from Eve!”

Merida and the other servant tried to walk quicker, as if they never heard or saw Ninety-Nine even as she followed them. Past the menials, the custodians, and governors, Ninety-Nine continued to follow them until she grabbed Merida by her arm. The sheer panic on Merida’s face and the smell of fear made Ninety-Nine pause.

“M—My lady, I don’t know who you are. Please, if I take too long I will be in trouble, Chancellor Jek will be angry! Please let me go!”

Ninety-Nine’s grip loosened. Merida immediately whipped her arm out and ran with the other woman. Ninety-Nine watched them go, her back slouched forward with a frown pulling down on her lips. No thoughts occupied Ninety-Nine as she walked through the Imperial Palace.

She walked.

And walked some more.

When Ninety-Nine saw that the sun had set, she turned around to return to her room. Except, she did not know how to return. Ninety-Nine…

Anna Murza Jek was ambitious.

Perhaps too ambitious.

In need of some time to breathe, Jek walked the halls of the palace. Since the Battle of The Lion's Gate, tensions have been high. The Imperium Nihlus has also been a great thorn, supplies are low, billions displaced, The Imperium never faced a situation like this before. Jek strolled throough the halls, her thoughts latching on to her mind with its spiny legs. Not only that, a Conclave have been called for some experimental weapon amd whether to destroy the weapon or not.

"No... did I take right or left from here?"

And now some stray noble was wandering around. The figure was tall, well, taller than her but nearing six foot. Though she did not see the use of wearing a mask and being draped fabric. Either way, this was not her problem. Jek heard a heavy set of footsteps, and saw bronze astartes heading forward from the other side of the hall. Amongst few privileged astartes allowed inside the Imperial Palace were these bronze astartes, The Minotaurs. The astartes approached in silence.

Then, Jek saw something absolutely unexpected.

“Huh—”

The Minotaur astartes raised his arm slow, then launched his fist forward. Yet, Jek did not see the girl’s head explode. No, the girl merely managed to dodge the fist in perfect timing.

“Subject Ninety-Nine, by the order of Lord Haemotalion, you are to follow us.”

Ninety-Nine shook her head, she did not know who this Haemotalion man was. Ninety-Nine…

Something did not feel correct. These were the battle masters, encased in shining bronze and within the Imperial Palace. Yet, Ninety-Nine’s instinct told her they were approaching with malice. Her heart thumped like war drums, blood and adrenaline coursed through her veins, and the world seemed clearer. Ninety-Nine’s muscles in her legs coiled, tensed, she turned around.

“I said halt!”

Ninety-Nine lowered herself, her tail pressed against the ground. The moment she heard the quiet creak of their power armor come closer, her tail first sprang. Ninety-Nine’s entire body flew forward. The moment she landed her body moved, the muscles and the joins of her body quickly shifted to allow her to run away in all four limbs. Despite all her energy, she still heard the sounds of heavy footsteps following her.

“By the order of the High Lords, you are to stop!”

“I DON’T KNOW YOU!”

Left. Right. Jump. Slide. Ninety-Nine did everything in her power to dodge and weave. Around the corner, she saw a familiar face and another face, one dressed in his commissariat uniform with the face that Ninety-Nine could never forget.

“Amberley!”

“Ninety-Nine? Holy—”

Ninety-Nine jumped over Amberley then crouched behind her eliciting a surprised yelp when Ninety-Nine grabbed both sides of her waist. Ninety-Nine…

Ciaphas Cain had seen it all. Necron Tombs. Heretical cults. Daemon princes. Tau. Eldars. Just about he’d seen every corners of the galaxy and every corner knew Ciaphas Cain. Due to his summoning by the Primarch himself (something he still couldn’t believe after meeting him), he chose to accompany Amberley on his rare free time. The 597th were also on leave after practicing for a parade to boost the Imperium’s morale.

“And this conclave is to determine the next course of action for the inquisition as a whole? Not just the ordos?”

“That seemed to be so. What, afraid of the future? The great Hero of The Imperium?”

“Nothing of the sort,” Cain said bravely, as he always did. “I for one—”

“Amberleeey!”

“Ninety-Nine? Holy—”

Ciaphas watched a hooded noble jump over and land behind Amberely and hide behind. The pursuing force made him panic, they were The Minotaurs, the personal kill squad for the High Lords. Feth.

“Halt!” Amberely said. “I am Inquisitor Amberely Vail, Ordo Xenos. What is the meaning of this? You are attempting to take what is an Inquisition property.”

The astartes stopped, towering over Cain and Amberley.

“It is summoned by—”

“AMBERLEEEY, LORD HAMTARO SENT HIS MINOTARDS TO PUNCH ME, WHAT DO I DOOOOOO!?”

“Lord who? Minotards?” Vail said.

The ear splitting wail rumbled the palace grounds. The minotaurs stood firm but the commissar plugged his ears tight as did his Valhallan assistance. Vail shot a look of ‘take over’ as she knelt beside Ninety-Nine. Of course he had to deal with them.

“There there, Ninety-Nine. Everything will be alright.”

Cain stared at the inquisitor, the scariest woman he knew, cooing gently like a mother. Just what what was the girl’s nature to draw out such tenderness from her? That question had to wait, Ciaphas Cain (Hero of The Imperium) stood between the crying maiden and the heavily armored and armed seven foot tall astartes. Surely, this was nothing for him.

“Commissar, stand aside. You cannot defy the will of the High Lords, not even you.”

God I really need to finish For The Emperor.
>>
A hero from her story book now stood in reality.

Ciaphas Cain, Hero of The Imperium, standing against the bronze tyrants. Ninety-Nine knew she was in safe hands. The lights wrapped on Commissar Ciaphas Cain, his handsome visage carved from the handsomest auramite shined. The sharp jawline sharp as a power sword and a smile gentle like sunlight.

“I don’t know why you are chasing after this poor maiden, but I will not tolerate this level of violence on the holiest of grounds!” Cain declared.

“That does not matter to us. The High Lords has summoned Subject Ninety-Nine. What you protect is a weapon, not a human.”

“Then you must be blind.” Cain said.

Amberely joined Cain’s side.

“Project Hope is under the direct supervision of the Lord Primarch. Any involvement must pass through his permission.” Amberely said .

“You heard it my lords.” Cain said. “I’m afraid she is out of the High Lord’s reach.”

The Minotauars still stayed, but relented, they turned back and returned from wherever they came from. Ciaphas Cain let out a relieved sigh in the smoothest and the most clandestine way possible with a hearty laugh.

“No need to worry beautiful maiden, you’re safe with me. Now who are— oof!”

The mask slipped as Ninety-Nine jumped to embrace her savior. The robe loosened as her tails twirled free. Now, Ciaphas Cain humbly admitted he saw plenty more than just about anyone in an average room full of guardsmen be it officers or enlisted. This Ninety-Nine? Project Hope?

“Throne!”

White and purple body, exoskeleton resembling a tyranid, black sclera and yellow pupils. The scariest part?

“Ninety-Nine your mask!”

The new side of Amberley. Cain watched Amberley place back the porcelain mask back on Ninety-Nine and adjust the robes.

“Come now, do you know how to return back to your room?” Amberley took the thing’s hand.

“Nnuh uh.”

“I suppose we’ll find a way back then.”

From then on, Ciaphas Cain accompanied Vail to meet Ninety-Nine as the conclave continued. Learning about the child and accompanying her during her lessons between Sister Catherine and Chaplain Gabriel when he could.

Inside the small classroom, Ninety-Nine went to her usual lessons.

“Good day, how do you do?” Ninety-Nine said eloquently.

“That’s better, your pronunciations are coming along nicely.” Sister Catherine said. “How goes your combat lessons?”

“I’m getting better at melee, I can use heavy melee weapons like heavy-chainswords and executioner blades!” Ninety-Nine said excitedly. “I didn’t hit Chaplain Gabreluw—Gabriel yet but one day I will!”

Sister Catherine smiled politely.

“Through great efforts and consistent practice I’m certain you will. And since you liked books, I brought a new one. Have you heard of the Living Saint Celestine?”

“Sure have! She visited me when I was sparring Chaplain Gabriel.”

“Yes yes I’m sur— repeat that again?”

“She arrived inside the sparring room, and it looked liked she knew Chaplain Gabriel.”

Sister Catherine closed the book on Low Gothics for children with plenty of bookmarks and a small stack of notebooks with the grace of a sister from Order Famulous. Cain even did a double take when he also heard it. Sister Catherine scooted closer, her eyes fixated on Ninety-Nine’s innocent but confused smile.

“You… you met the Revered Sister?”

Ninety-Nine shrugged.

“We didn’t talk a lot, but yes. She came in a really really bright light, but that was it.”
“I see.” Sister Catherine said. “Ninety-Nine, the conclave has yet to happen, what practice do you have after this?”

“Heavy ranged weapon lessons.” Ninety-Nine said.

“How would you like to come to the chapel with me?”

“If Chaplain Gabriel is ok with it…”

Surprisingly, he had allowed Ninety-Nine the permission, though when she asked Chaplain Gabriel answered with a distracted nod.

“Wow…”

The next day, Ninety-Nine was escorted by Sister Catherine. After a brief ride inside the sororitas’ rhino, Ninety-Nine walked through the long and straight walkway to the Convent Priori’s main entrance, a tall double door made of black ceramite with elegant engravings. The pointed arches and flying buttresses supported the turret emplaced roofs and spiked ceramite structures. A beautiful yet stark mix of a fortress and a chapel.

“Magnificent, I know.” Sister Catherine said with a proud but controlled grin. “These are the revered sisters who sacrificed themselves for The Emperor.”

Ninety-Nine squinted at the small bricks. Each had a name and the order the sister had served.

“Don’t dally, Ninety-Nine. Keep up your pace.”

Drenched in three layers of fabrics layered on top of her head and a mask underneath, Ninety-Nine followed Sister Catherine inside the Convent Prioris. Through the small holes poked through the fabric, she saw the interior of the tall chapel.

“Beautiful, are they not?”

“Beutiful…”

The lights filtered through the stained glass, painting the floor with red, blue, and green illuminations. The visage of the God-Emperor covered every corners, be it statues, hymns or stained glasses, Ninety-Nine could not escape the judgmental gaze of The Emperor. She wondered… did she really belong here? A place where the purest can be as an abomination that she was? The thought plagued Ninety-Nine as they walked past patrolling sisters and novitiates marching in a formation.

“Sister Catherine?”

“Good afternoon Sister Agatha, Sister Amadeus.” Sister Catherine said. “How are you?”

“I’m doing well, may I ask who this is?” Sister Agatha said.

Sister Agatha, a beige skinned woman in black power armor with white cloak and red accents lining, though she was not a sister of Order of Our Martyred Lady but of Order of the Ebon Chalice, the original Ordos Militant of the Adepta Sororitas.

“This is Nora, a special guest of mine.” Sister Catherine said. “While young, The God Emperor has worked through this child, she has already slain many enemies of The God Emperor.”
>>
Sister Agatha raised a questioning brow, her scar that ran across her face stretched.

“Truly?”

“Yes, she is invited personally by the Lord Commander.” Sister Catherine said.

The suspicion faded from the sister’s face. Though Sister Amadeus seemed trouble, her brows furrowed. Sister Amadeus, a young woman in red robes with opulent gold jewelries and a thick golden necklace, stared at Ninety-Nine.

“Then it is a pleasure meeting you, young Nora. May the Emperor’s light guide your path. Sister Amadeus, you’re not coming?”

“Later.” Sister Amadeus said. “I will meet you soon.”

Once Sister Agathe left, Sister Amadeus closed her distance to whisper.

“What were you thinking, bringing her here, are you insane?” Sister Amadeus said.

“This is for her education, rest assured she will be fine.” Sister Catherine said.

“Oh I’m so relieved, truly!” Sister Amadeus said with a scoff. “You better be sure she’s hidden underneath! I’ve got the Lord Commander breathing down on my neck and I don’t need more work on my plate!”

“Work from the Lord Commander?”

Sister Amadeus sighed.

“I can’t tell you the details, but right now, Terra, no, The Imperium is a promethium keg right now and I’m trying to stuff the holes and I don’t need another barrel, the barrel being puritan inquisitors who want a certain project to end.” Sister Amadeus said then sighed once more. “I gotta go, but I’ll see you some other time, Cathy.”

After Sister Amadeus’s departure. Ninety-Nine and Catherine explored the chapel further, taking in the marvelous sights.

The next day, the conclave officially commenced.

Lord Inquisitor Fidus Kryptman was unsatisfied. Specifically, he was unsatisfied at Inquisitor Amberley Vail, his former interrogator. He thought Vail was like many other inquisitors, unfeeling and merciless. Yet, what she showed, this... ugly display of tender mercy, she disappointed him. That commissar she has been seeing eroded her competence.

"Kryptman." A familiar voice said.

"Trevayne." Kryptman replied.

Inside the Inquisition's auditorium, tens of thousands of inquisitors sat on a hard stone seat. The auditorium was lit by braziers and torches lined up on the stone walls and the auditorium was divided by three floors. The first floor was for new inquisitors, those who killed or solved a couple of cases. Then the second floor, composed of senior inquisitors who were on the verge of the title of Lord Inquisitor. Then the third, the Lord Inquisitors and those respected enough to be allowed in.

"I hear your little project has shown great returns," Trevayne said.

"Hardly," Kryptman said. "It can control hordes, but not significant enough to control a hive fleet or a planet invasion amount."

"True, but it's the potential no?"

Kryptman gruffed.

"We'll see."

The conclave soon began. Inquisitors from all over the segmentums gathered, along with one member of their retinue. The talk began with Imperium Nihlus and the threats hiding beneath the warp storms. If the enemies of The Emperor was dire now in Imperium Sanctus, none knew the extent of terror shrouded in Imperium Nihlus. After the discussion of heretics and daemons, Ordo Xenos.

"Lord Inquisitor Kryptman, if you will."

Kryptman walked up to the third-floor podium. A vox-amplifier servoskull floated up to the podium. Another servoskull floated up, projecting a map of various segmentums destroyed by the tyranids, some planets being a great tactical importance. Chapters lost, sisters slain, wars lost... Kryptman laid out the most horrifying losses, and they were from Segmentum Sanctus.

"As for what we are facing in Imperium Nihilus, I can only assume the worst."

"You have a weapon that can control the tyranids, will you recommend sending it to imperium Nihilus?"

"I cannot say, its growth progress is slow. For now, Ninety-Nine will not impact a true tyranid invasion." Kryptman said.

"Then why not send her to one? It must be trained." A lord inquisitor said.

"That is up to my discretion and the Lord Commander's." Kryptman said.

Mostly his, but throwing the Lord Commander worked as an excellent shield. For now, he knew the best growth opportunity remained in… another mission, and soon. The time on Terra was softening Ninety-Nine's lethality. A true mission, a crucible to prove her worth to The Imperium.

“What is its abilities?”

“Can it speak?”

“Does it understand abstract concepts?”

“How much of a tyranid is it and is it vulnerable to tyranid hive mind?”

“Does the subject worship the Emperor like it should?”

Kryptman sat back at his seat. Ordo Xenos’s portion of the conclave continued though the rest of the xenos in question were not prominent as the tyranids. In summary, The Imperium faced annihilation not seen since the Horus Heresy. The amount of question on Subject Ninety-Nine proved its importance to the Imperium’s fight against the consuming hoard.

Kryptman’s heels clacked against the auramite floor, he tread the true inner palace of the Imperial Palace, the Sanctum Imperialis Principa. From the second floor where it oversaw the training area Kryptman watched Subject Ninety-Nine train.

“You're holding your sword too tight!”

“Yes, Chaplain!”

Ninety-Nine ducked the next three strikes, then tried to parry a thrust from the chaplain. The sword flung out of her hand from the chaplain’s skillful flick of his wrist that added a twirl to his thrust.

“Now too loose. Again!”

His creation, it moved, it talked, it ate, it cried, it angered, it hoped, and it fought with passion. He created life and a hope for humanity.

And it disgusted him.

How dare it mock the human form. How dare it see him as his father like some mutt. How dare it live as it did when it should have been the weapon it was supposed to be. A weapon needed no emotions, if not for The Lord Commander’s order, he would have been working on Subject One Hundred.

>This thing needed to die, for the good of humanity [next set of missions that can be chosen will be high risk high reward]
>The Lord Commander’s order was absolute, he was an Emperor fearing man like all good and pure Inquisitors were after all. [next set of missions that can be chosen will have one high risk high reward with two medium risk medium reward mission]

A shorter update will be posted tomorrow along with the usual for this one

Question: What do you guys want to see in terms of mission variety or the mission itself?

I feel like even Kryptman would acknowledge the immediate necessity of any advantage Ninety-nine could offer over an extinction-level tyranid threat, if nothing else then as a touchstone for how the next iteration should be made better.

Inside his spacious quarters within the Upper Hive, Kryptman switched on his cogitator. The screen lit up, bathing room in an emerald light. Kryptman removed his glasses to have his eyes scanned. Kryptman then inserted the data-package into the square slit, he grumbled as he flipped the data-package right side up then inserted in again.

“Fidus Kryptman. Password: BHLIF3451SDKU4561HB.”

The blank screen listed off the missions and reports that were on the cogitators back in the watch fortress. The mission on Mol and Hazel have been completed. Though there were still more missions available. Not to mention, missions raised up by Lord Inquisitors he knew. He wanted Subject Ninety-Nine to die so a better project can replace it. Unfortunately, the Lord Commander’s order was absolute, he was an Emperor fearing man like all good and pure Inquisitors were after all.

Hmm on the one hand if we go where there are marines theres a chance 99 could snack on some more marine organs for growth, or maybe some favors for nice stuff. On the other hand Roland with Knights sounds fun. Some big nids with Shadow of the Colossus style combat. The favor of a chivalrous Knight House. Tough call, leaning more towards Roland.

The world does not have much of a resource per say, but it is a world dedicated to Saint Bastille The Forgiven, a mere man who once ran away from a fight but found the courage to fight again after praying for three days. If Penance is destroyed, this would be a great blow to the morale of The Imperium. While the defense stands, an immediate need of reinforcement was recommended. [Medium Risk. Medium Reward]

Roland, an honorable and well renowned Knight World of House Durandal stands between a large splintered hive fleet of Hive Fleet Nyartolep. The speartip of the splintered hive fleet must not only be broken, but destroyed and annihilated, to the point that the no hive fleet will ever think about invading the world again.

Unfortunately, the message came late.

The knights and the heavy defense have withstood for thousands of years and the knights have always stood. Due to the thoroughly defended world, the splintered hive fleet amassed more forces to even out the playing field. Their defenses are approaching a collapse, not soon, but reinforcements were in need.

“This will serve well…”

The next day, Ninety-Nine was ordered to board Dreyfus, an Imperial Navy ship. Her room was a cramped cabin with a bed and a restroom with a tiny sink, an average cell block was more spacious than her room not that it bothered Ninety-Nine. The cabin had a soft and springy mattress and a blanket which would be warm with her robe as an extra layer. The data-slate give have already informed of her next mission handed by her Hive-Father.

“Do not disappoint me, Ninety-Nine.”

“I won’t, Hive-Father. I’ll do my best to make you proud!”

“If you do, that’ll be the first time you ever did.”

Ninety-Nine closed her eyes and curled up. This mission would be the mission to make father proud.

Ninety-Nine examined her new clothes and robes. The first layer of clothes was a bodysuit that covered her hands and feet, with no discomfort to her exoskeletal body. The second layer was a fleece cargo jacket with a knee length black skirt. The third and final layer was a long hooded robe of red with gold accents. The accessories composed of various gloves, masks, and other clothing that helped covering up her body. A red sack fell from the sleeve along with a note and an I shaped badge.

This is an Inquisitorial Badge, it represents that you are an agent of the Inquisition but not an Inquisitor because they have an Inquisitorial Rosette. I don’t know why Kryptman didn’t give you one when he sent you off without some kind of guardian or handler but don’t lose this. I also left you with some new candy don’t eat them all in one spot, you won’t be able to find any sweets while you’re on the mission. Good luck. The Emperor Protects.

Your friend, Amberely Vail

Ninety-Nine put on the new clothes and clasped the badge firmly. The demeanors of the guardsmen and the sailors changed. As Ninety-Nine explored the upper part of the ship, people would bow, or give a brief greeting before going their way. While the Navigator have bee denied by the navigator’s house guards. So, Ninety-Nine learned the reinforcements arriving instead

They're some of the nicer space marines around, they're mutants (and strangely proud of that fact), they hate the Inquisition, and they got off relatively lightly with their mutation for a cursed founding chapter. I might have to make a judgment call. The Savlar Chem Dogs will not work because the world is an important asset,

1. They are a Penal Legion, sending them is an insult to a Knight World especially with their reputation of being looters and thieves. This will not fly if one will get caught.
2. They are light infantry (per lexicanum at least) and excel at "cramped, noxious battlefields" (lexicanum), I doubt they will be sent there.
3. I will have to do some immense lore bending to have them work and they will not be represented well and if it has to come to lore bending I might as well just make a penal regiment up.

However, should the anons vote majority of this after this warning, then I will find a way to make this work.
>>
>>6167158
Don't sweat it, lore getting bent too hard is a perfectly valid reason to reject something. I wanted to vote for Raven Guard but ultimately didn't for similar reasons: they just didn't fit with a line-holding operation that would restrict their mobility and initiative.

The Black Dragons. Ninety-Nine watched the battle-masters afar, afraid of admonishment and bothering them with her presence. She admired their horns and claws, gleaming like the stars with the sharpness of Chaplain Gabriel’s executioner sword. While admiring and watching, Ninety-Nine popped the strange circular and light brown candy. The buttery sweetness filled her mouth. Ninety-Nine let out a happy chirping squeal. Her hand reached for another but remembered Amberely’s warning.

Maybe seeing the guardsmen would help distract her appetite. After all, this would be her first time seeing a guardsman.

Due to Roland’s forest and jungle like environment, Ninety-Nine learned that the Catachan Jungle Fighters had been sent. The famous Catachan Second, the Green Vipers and Catachan Eighteenth, the Swamprats, arrived as the specialist regiment. The supporting regiment was Cadian Ninety Second Infantry Regiment, the Firebrands as firing support. With her badge of office, the Cadians saluted everywhere she went.

“Wow…” Ninety-Nine muttered quietly.

The guardsmen of Cadia amazed Ninety-Nine with their cleanliness and their sharp movements like machines. Unlike the tech priests and the skiitari, they laughed, and seemed more human. After asking where the Catachan were, she was give a complicated direction then told to find the smelliest men possible.

And so she did.

As Ninety-Nine got closer the smell became… meatier. Through the small maze of halls, sounds of grunts, a fast paced music, and loud laughters grew louder and louder as Ninety-Nine approached closer. At the final corner, Ninety-Nine peeked her head out.

“C’mon go for the legs!”

Ninety-Nine watched the guardsmen wrestle. Another stabbing the desk with a knife repeatedly around his hands. They only wore a green vest, black cargo pants, boots, and a red bandana. Though the female guardsmen had their chest covered, they displayed their bulging muscles out in the open.Their laughters boomed, they drank by the gallons and ate by the pounds. And their muscles… so shiny and so rippling. Their muscles punched Ninety-Nine into a feeling she never felt before.

“Hey, you need some— oh feth, you’re those inquisition agent!”

Ninety-Nine shook her head. In front of her was a Catachan guardsman, how did he get past her guard? The other guardsmen nearby suddenly became silent. All attention was on her.

“Sorry, I was just admiring…”

Ninety-Nine could taste the sheer confusion in the guardsmen. After all, an agent of the inquisition openly admiring something primal as muscles was never heard of. Especially someone dressed in a red robe with one’s face covered. While these brave sons and daughters of the Emperor has seen the horrors of the galaxy, this was the first.

“Is this some inquisition trick?” A guardsman whispered.

“I didn’t even know the inquisition was here!”

“Of course there would be one, this is a big op.”

“Doesn’t she sound a little young?”

Ninety-Nine touched the tips of her fingers, looking up at the shiny muscles. One guardsman approached, a young man with single scar on his chest and a fresh red bandana. Ninety-Nine stared at the young man’s visage of well sculpted face with a pair of handsome brown eyes and sharp nose with a black high fade cut.

“I’m Buck, Trooper Buck. Yours?”

“Ninety-Nine?”

“Mmhmm. Subject Ninety-Nine.”

The guardsmen looked at one another, once again in confusion. This lasted for only a second once an alarm wailed.

“Approaching planetside, prepare for drop. Subject Ninety-Nine is to report to the class vermillion armory before deployment. Find a servitor, state your name and present your badge if you do not have it grab it then do it, then follow the nice servitor. Do not be distracted, eat anything off the floor and follow the directions.”

“Vermillion?”

“Is it me or did that direction sound like it’s explaining to someone stupid?”

After following the directions and waiting through three checkpoints, Ninety-Nine was led inside a three story armory. Racks of melee weapons and heavy guns waited to be used, made of ceramite and faith.

“Choose your weapons for deployment. One main weapon and side weapon will be allowed.” The servitor said.

“Where am I going?”

“Error. Answer not found.”

Ninety-Nine sighed. At least she had a plethora of options. Though, due to her size she could only carry one weapon.

Ninety-Nine tested the weight of the thunder hammer, a bit on the heavy side and taller than she expected, but Ninety-Nine supposed there were tall people in the Imperial Guard. With the weapon chosen and her carapace armor worn, Ninety-Nine followed the servitor to the drop pod room to the very end. Ninety-Nine sat inside the last drop-pod with the inquisition symbol at the front.

“Enter the drop pod.” The servitor said.

“Mm hmm.”

Unlike the last drop pod, the interior’s soft cushions welcomed Ninety-Nine. At the seat was the usual holovid screen, yet nothing arrived. Not after a minute, ten minutes, then an hour. Ninety-Nine swung her legs back and forth, wondering if there was an error. Then, the drop pod lurched down. The seat’s safety harness locked Ninety-Nine in place.

“Launching in five, four, three, two, one… drop pod launching. Ave imperator.”

The weightlessness of falling lasted for five minutes. Ninety-Nine still waited for the mission, anything, there had to be some kind of instruction. Yet, nothing showed. No goals. Enemy types. The screen did not activate either.

“Hello? Anyone?”

A sudden force pushed Ninety-Nine. The drop pod’s light lit red. The drop pod’s door opened with a hiss. There, Ninety-Nine landed at…

The sound of shrieks, bolter fires, and lasgun’s sizzling lazer muffled through the drop pod walls. The drop pod’s door opened, the sound crashed in.

“This is nothing like before…”

Ninety-Nine found herself at a high vantage point, and looking down she realized the drop pod pierced through the tyranid’s exoskeleton but not deep enough to be buried inside. Thankfully, the tyranid she landed on laid dead. Not thankfully, there were more giants ahead with hordes of swarms. Hierophants screamed and the viragons delved into the nutrient rich soils.

“Wow…”

Under the sunless gray sky, plumes of smoke choke the air. Sky-slashers flew in giant black swarms that consumed anyone and anything in their path. The harridans and gargoyles maintained their air superiority, eviscerating any imperial fighters and supply ships.

“Wait what am I supposed to do?” Ninety-Nine mumbled to herself.

Bright green balls of sticky liquid sailed through the air. In reply, artillery shells crashed into the tyranids. Walls of lasers tore through the hordes, bolters tore the limbs, and the Black Dragons cut through the flesh of tyranids.

“INTO THE FIRES OF BATTLE UNTO THE ANVIL OF WAR!”

“FIRE AND BONE!”

That is when Ninety-Nine realized, she was far from the right side. Even the tall metal giants seemed far from where she was. Ninety-Nine grabbed her thunder hammer and supply pack. She popped a butterscotch in her mouth and…

Ninety-Nine swam through the swarm, undetected and unbothered. Be it stepping on top of a hormagaunt or slipping through the kins, Ninety-Nine made her way back into the frontlines. That is, until she saw a tall tyranid screeching. For some odd reason, Ninety-Nine knew it had to die, and could not negotiate, she jumped on top of a running hormagaunt and surfed her kin until she got closer. Soon, the tyranid warrior got in range. The thunder hammer crackled in blue lightning.

“For the Emperor!”

Ninety-Nine jumped then swung. What was once a head of a tyranid warrior exploded into bite sized wet chunks. Ninety-Nine landed, then smashed her way toward the firing line, the crackle of the blue lightning notified of her location, and thankfully no friendly fire hit Ninety-Nine. By the time she pulverized her way back into the defensive line, guts and bones smothered Ninety-Nine’s black carapace armor.

“Emperor’s flaming sword!” A catachan guardsman said. “You inquisitions don’t mess around! Your drop pod must’ve taken some serious hit to have landed here!”

The artillery boomed, bolters roared, and the lasguns buzzed. Ninety-Nine had to strain her hearing to unravel the noises.

“I’m afraid we can’t spare any men, inquisition!” The guardsman said. “Speak to the colonel if you need to or the captain at the war tent if you need some men!”

Ninety-Nine cocked her head.

Did she need men?

What was her mission?

Better yet, when was lunch?

When in doubt, she thought about her hero, Ciaphas Cain.

What would he do?

Ninety-Nine gazed at the horizon. The giant metal men and her colossus cousins battled, crashing into one another and rippine each other apart. One side by plasma and faith, the kins with acid, fangs, and talons. In situations like these, Ciaphas Cain would never be afraid, fear never stopped him and she was certain Ciaphas Cain did not know what fear was. Ninety-Nine clapped her hands together.

“What’s the biggest and baddest threat?”

The Catachan guardsman looked at Ninety-Nine with a confused gaze. However, the inquisition badge pulled him back from giving Ninety-Nine an equally acrid answer to a stupid question. He scratched his cheek, then joined in Ninety-Nine at seeing the torn horizon.

“Not sure about the baddest and biggest in all of Roland but this sector we got a Stone-Crusher Carnifex, a Screamer Killer Carnifex, they’ve been evolving from how much they’ve been fighting us… they’re starting to display unique traits. All we can do is hold them back, but I hear a squad is being formed. Then there are those damn bio-titans and flying karks that’s also been evolving… Wait why are you asking me, aren’t you the expert Inquisitor?”

“I’m not an inquisitor.”

“Alright, but aren’t you inquisition the expert in this or otherwise you wouldn’t be here right?”

Ninety-Nine shrugged. A full five seconds passed.

“Well, if you got nothing for me inquisition, I need to go.”

Ninety-Nine decided… to destroy the bio-titans. After a brief questioning Ninety-Nine discovered there were several bio-titans in Roland, one in this area have been dubbed “the shelled maw” a bio-titan the size of a super tank with the hardest shell in all of the tyranid fleet. A bio-titan so big that the way to find the shelled raider was to go to sector seven and simply look around.

“Excuse me. I need to go to sector seven and I don’t have a ride, what do I do?”

“You need to speak to Colonel Stracken, inquisitor.”

Ninety-Nine politely walked through the Catachan and Cadian guardsmen. The line held, raining all manners of las, stubber, and bolter fires along with a tempest of unending artillery. Ninety-Nine tapped a Catachan Guardsman’s shoulder.

“Whaddaya— I mean what is it Inquisitor?”

“Buck!” Ninety-Nine cheered. “It’s me, Ninety-Nine!”

Buck looked over the black carapace armor and the thunder hammer.

“Throne on Terra that was you that took out a warrior?” Buck said.

“Yes, but that’s not important.” Ninety-Nine said. “I’m looking for Colonel Strick—Stracken.”

“Well he’s—”

“TROOPER BUCK WHY THE FRAK DID YOU STOP FIRING!”

A man, half armored in shining muscles and metal stomped his way, his head held high and his red eye implant brighter than plasma and burning with fury. The man, a mass of three hunder hundred and fifty pounds of raw fury and bionics looked down at Ninety-Nine.

“Inquisition was looking for you.” Buck pointed at Ninety-Nine.

“Go back to firing!” Stracken barked. “And you, inquisitor, what do you want?”

“I need a ride to sector seven so I can kill the shelled maw.” Ninety-Nine said. “But I don’t have a ride and I’m not an inquisitor.”

Stracken squinted his eye.

“Then where is your inquisitor?”

Ninety-Nine shrugged.

“So you don’t know where your inquisitor is with no reinforcement. All you got is your hammer and you’re saying you will kill that Emperor damned shell-kark?”

“Uh, sir.” Trooper Buck returned, he winced at Stracken’s fiery glare. “She’s the one who landed at the middle of the no man’s zone.”

Ninety-Nine flinched when it was her turn to be glared at.

“You, that was you?”

“Yes?”

Stracken squinted his eye again.

“How old are you?”

Ninety-Nine wondered about her age. By human standard’s physical appearance, she was around sixteen or eighteen years old, though by height standard she might have been an adult. Going by how long she lived… even she was not sure. No records or her hive-father told her how old she was. Ninety-Nine combined human common sense and her own.

“I am fourteen years old.”

Not too much not too little, fourteen was a respectable age right? Stracken’s one eye’s brow rose. He scowled, did they not believe her?

“Damn inquisition, even in the guard you get conscripted when you’re eighteen or seventeen… What makes you think you can kill the shelled maw?”

“I need to kill it.” Ninety-Nine said. “I fought worse before.”

Stracken nearly laughed, nearly. The inquisition are slimy no good scrotum sucking snakes, but stupid they were not. The inquisition badge was not given so easily.

“I can walk there, I just don’t know where it is…”

“You got a map or a data-slate?”

“No.”

“Do you know how to read a map with a compass?”

“What’s a compass?”

Stracken smacked his forehead with his hand. Later, he had a guardsman bring in a map and a compass.

“See this circle thing pointing at the letter W? Just keep going that way and you’ll see it.” Stracken said. “I’m going to guess you don't know how to drive a supply-bike. But if you’d like to learn, I can teach if you are willing to take a favor from me. Resupply won’t be for a long while, so if you see any ammo or supplies left as you travel sector seven and see if they can spare anything from the field quartermaster. This isn’t urgent but it would be helpful.”

Side Quest

The Catachan Second need some resupply. Scavenge for supplies and speak to the field quartermaster at sector seven for some spare supply to bring back to the Catachan Second at sector five.

Reward: Ninety-Nine will now know how to operate basic two wheeled bikes and other rewards. Ninety-Nine will also gain a good reputation for the Catachans and the Cadians as well with her fame being spread. She will also gain some assistance in killing the shelled-maw
Draw Back: The killing of the shelled-maw will be postponed and can change its location and it will be more difficult to kill the shelled maw
Failure: None and no negative reputation

Ninety Nine now knows how to operate two wheeled vehicles of a bike nature.

After learning how to operate the standard Rough Rider, Ninety-Nine acclimated the weight of the supply cart attached behind. Excitement thumped rapidly in her heart, the engine’s revving, the open (infested with tyranid) road, the freedom, Ninety-Nine giggled loud enough to be heard.

“Damn it you idiot girl are you listening to me!”

Ninety-Nine snapped out of her drunken excitement.

“I—I listen!”

“Remember, scavenge won’t do much good but do what you can but it might take a while in war speed is important. Look for the field quarter master there and get back quick, understand?” Stracken said.

“Yes Colonel!”

Stracken nodded.

“Deploy!”

Rough Rider roared its engine and went forth. Fallen trees and smoldering vehicles littered the road to sector seven. The forest darkened underneath the grey sky, blotted by both ships and winged hordes. Save for the distant sound of the battle and the echoing cannons, Ninety-Nine did not hear a single sound from nature, not even a rustle.

“Here’s another one…”

Ninety-Nine occasionally stopped to strip corpses of his lasrifle and carapace armor from an ambushed patrol and search inside destroyed or abandoned vehicles, though she had yet to found anything important. Each stop was a time spent, Ninety-Nine…

The supply cart was not full but filled enough of scavenged items, most being lasguns and carapace armor and some packs with goods. Ninety-Nine was smart, since she needed to get supplies from the field quartermaster she needed to leave additional space. The rough rider carried Ninety-Nine through the roads, and with no other scavenging opportunity nearby, Ninety-Nine reached a guarded check point, furnished with propped ceramite walls and heavy stubber emplacements.

“Halt!”

Ninety-Nine stopped the engine. A Cadian guardsman called from the tall watchtower. Several guardsmen aimed their lasgun, though they did not emanate any hostile intentions. Ninety-Nine waved.

“Hello!” Ninety-Nine said.

This would have been a distasteful joke, if not for the fact that Stracken briefed on her arrival over the vox and the arrival of one odd inquisitorial member. A grizzled guardsman stepped forth, his visage seemed young yet the sunken and hollow eyes showed a veteran status.

“I’m Trooper Ackerson, state your name and purpose.”

“I’m Subject Ninety-Nine from the Inquisition, Coroner Stracken sent me here to get some supplies from the field quartermaster.”

“Sounds about right, keep going and you’ll go to the rear camp you’ll find the field quartermaster there.”

“How do I know which camp is which?”

“Just ask.”

The sound of war drew close, and once Ninety-Nine exited the forest road she saw the battlefield once more. Ninety-Nine checked in with the entrance guard then rode her bike to the quartermaster’s tent. The mud under her feet squelched, guardsmen of both regiments ran left and right as orders were barked in all directions. Ninety-Nine parted the flaps as she entered.

“You must be the inquisition agent.” A lean Cadian man with graying hair said. “I’m Staff Sergeant Forn. It’s your lucky day, Inquisition. We do have some supplies to spare. I’ll have my men carry it.”

“Thank you, staff sergeant.”

“Heading out already?”

Ninety-Nine cocked her head.

“Ninety-Nine was it?”

She nodded.

“That’s my name.”

“Hmm. Thank you. If there’s nothing else I will return to my duties.”

“Has there been any news about the shelled maw?”

The staff sergeant shook his head.

“The shelled maw is still coming through the frontlines. There are heavy reinforcements with it, but I know a team is being prepared but nothing as of yet.”

“Got it, thank you smack sergeant.”

Ninety-Nine felt the new weight of the supply cart and the additional supply cart attached. The rough rider roared again but with a strained pause before rolling out. The return trip did not hinder Ninety-Nine, neither the road or any surprise ambushes. Despite the battlefield screaming in the distance, everything felt calm, so, so calm.

“Excellent work, Ninety-Nine!” Stracken said.

Upon returning to sector five, the guardsmen quickly took the supplies. Ninety-Nine saw three battle-masters and nine men awaiting in a formation.

“Ninety-Nine, this is Sergeant Thump, in charge of the Catachan Devils squad. He and Veteran Sergeant Sran’skan will spearhead the hunt for the shelled-maw. They formed just in time for you to join. They will return to sector seven and go on from there.” Stracken said.

Battle-masters, Ninety-Nine cheered.

“Then I don’t have to do this alone!”

“You planned to do this alone?” Thump said, his gravely voice rumbled.

“Sure, I’ve done it before.” Ninety-Nine shrugged.

“We’ll see.” Thump said impassively. “My lord?”

“We will regroup in fifteen minutes.” Sran’skan said. “Then we will move out.”

“You heard him, double check your supplies!”

“You too Inquisition, if you need to resupply now is the time. Good hunting.” Stracken said.

>Question: What do you guys want to see in terms of mission variety or the mission itself?
I am fine with dealing with any enemies be aliens or heretics, if they can be considered a serious threat for the Imperium they are mission worthy. Those Magma Hounds, were a good starter for dealing with CSM for example. But they would have been a far harder foe to deal with less Mechanicus support or if they had more to deploy on the field.

A few examples : Assassination (not necessarily stealthy), Seek and Destroy, Boarding combat in a naval battle, Destroying a place (chaos temple ? an important Tyranid nest ? placing a plasma bomb in a necron tomb ?), Defending an asset, Defending a VIP, being in a siege of a hive city, more immense battles like this. There can be a lot of variety

Mission it self some things can be unpredictable even with good intel, and especially with bad intel. Maybe there are more enemies, maybe they are in a more exposed position for deploy in mass. Can be both good and bad. Time to time we could be in warp transit or in a world/region of space under imperial control and BAM, invasion or ambush of an enemy. And sometimes, like say in defending an asset or defending the VIP, the asset could be difficult to defend or the VIP might lack common sense like in trying not to be killed.

Ninety-Nine stayed with her current weapon and resupplied herself with desert rations she managed to find amongst the piles of resupply. A sack full of butterscotch, two sweet flax-bars and another sack of various snacks available to her with the badge, proving that the Inquisition was truly the best place to belong in. Fifteen minutes later, Ninety-Nine boarded at the thunderhawk.

“Hello!” Ninety-Nine greeted cheerfully.

No one waved back or even greeted back. The battle-masters’ faces were hidden by their helmets, the guardsmen faces locked into an impassive frown. Ninety-Nine quickly entered and occupied herself in the corner. The thunderhawk rumbled, then soon took off toward sector seven.

“You are Ninety-Nine, yes?” Sran’skan said, unlike the rest of his brothers, his left pauldron was marked with a black arrow entrapped by a white flame. “You are different from other inquisitorial forces.”

“Really?” Ninety-Nine said.

“Yes, you came alone. Why have you?” Sran’skan said. “You took on a monumental task without any support. Surely your inquisitor knew better.”

Ninety-Nine shrugged.

“I fought like this before.”

“Sent as a lone agent with support from different forces against numerous foes?”

The Inquisition were not to be trusted.

Like many of his cousin chapters, The Inquisition lost their humanity and what they fought for. Some inquisitor their duty and devotion blinded them. Power bound their rationality and raped their honor to shame. Sran’skan knew this, his battle-brothers knew this. Yet… when he saw Ninety-Nine he found no similarity from other inquisition members before. Innocence? Perhaps that word did not describe her fully but the word was one of them.

“Well there were jean stealers that thought the Emperor had four arms. I went to this big and fancy place with the battle-masters and got rid of them and a big one too! The battle masters went whoosh and bam! It was really fun!”

“Gene-stealers, they are indeed vile. Who are these battle-masters?”

“My teachers. They are astartes.” Ninety-Nine said proudly. “They all look different because they were different.”

“Different… Deathwatch?”

Ordo Xenos.

“I see, any other experiences?”

Her arrival made sense, and if her words were true she was clearly experienced. He already heard the rumor of this girl landing in the middle of the swarm and then killing a tyranid warrior in one blow. How could one unaugmented girl do this?

“Then there were this big bad and red battle-masters.”

“Red?”

Even the Catachan Devils snapped their attention to them.

“I had this big gun from the tech priest from the au— auxilia silly mimir done?”

“And these red ones, did they say anything strange?”

“Oh they said… BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD SKULL FOR THE SKULL THRONE!”

The sudden loud noise echoed in the thunderhawk.

“You fought Khornate astartes?”

“Is that what they are? Who’s Khornate?”

“Nothing. Nothing at all. Nothing important.” Sran’skan said. “Do you like stories?”

Sran’skan took on a gamble. He did not know how Ninety-Nine could wield an astartes sized thunder hammer or how she moved so agile in a heavy armor with a strange tail-like attachment. But he knew that Ninety-Nine was young, and younglings loved stories.

Sran’skan’s knowledge of Vulkan barraged Ninety-Nine. The War of The Beast remained her favorite story and Vulkan became her new favorite primarch. Ninety-Nine laughed, cheered for the brave astartes and guardsmen, then cried for Vulkan’s sacrifice. Sran’skan knew that in honest reactions this girl did not harbor any ill-intent. Later on, Ninety-Nine rode on top of the land raider for a change of pace.

“Do you see anything interesting?”

Ninety-Nine checked into her vox built in her helmet.

“Nothing really.”

Ninety-Nine watched the same scenery ride past. Ninety-Nine looked all around her, and saw nothing but the ruins of a world. She quickly took off her helmet then popped three butterscotches into her fanged maw. The sweet flavors bloomed in her mouth and the buttery scent delighted her tongue.

“Ninety-Nine, do you see anything out there?”

“I see a big metal man!” NInety-Nine said.

“A knight?”

“No, it's still day.”

“What?”

The figure appeared closer. Ninety-Nine saw a lone armiger pattern knight. Ninety-Nine stared up. The metal giant looked down as the Catachan Devil and the astartes exit. A powerful voice thuumed.

+++Hail, allies. I am Suleimen of House Aya. What brings you to travel across this dangerous land and away from the battlefield?+++

“We are a special team assembled to take down the shelled maw!” Sran’skan said.

+++The shelled maw? With a single land raider? You will need my help then.+++

“No, we don’t.” Sergeant Thump shook his head. “We are going to ambush the karker. Don’t need some big metal warning alarm following us.”

+++You deny the help from the glorious House Aya? You must be a fool, commoner, I am speaking to the astartes and did not ask for your tactical input!+++

"We do need to surprise it!"

The armiger knight creaked its head to Ninety-Nine. The cardinal and gold paint chipped body leaned down ever so slightly. The metal man seemed so unnatural, clad in armor and moving so sluggishly. Ninety-Nine stood at the top of the land raider, defiant and unaware of she faced off a knight.

+++Inquistion, you too deny my request?+++

"They hear good and all hive see through all." Ninety-Nine said. "We need to surprise it."

+++I can be the distraction+++

"You're too big they'll see you before we can surprise it!" Ninety-Nine said.

The knight leaned back, appearing tall as possible like a beast cornered. The mono eye glowed green as a metal whir creaked. Neither of the Catachan Devil, astartes backed down. Ninety-Nine waited for the knight's response.

+++I see, you seek glory and are willing to share none.+++

"The only glory is serving the Emperor." Sran'skan said.

+++Ambush is the coward's way. What say you, inquisition?+++

Con: Surprise attack will be difficult

>Well, He's right, Emppeeeroar likes being served, His glory is best service! But if you are willing to be bait!

My idea is either he baits em out by absolutely mincing a big hoard of warriors and rippers until the hive has to redirect forces.

OR

He acts as a rear guard and comes in to clean up after our hit attack so we can exfil

> Ninety-Nine looks at her warhammer and then points it in the direction of the large metal man, saying "You are made of metal like an anvil. If we approach from different sides then it will be like the forge of Vulkan!"

e.g. tactically: split up so that the knight is bait/ can make a distraction, and our strike force can hit the maw as a surprise from the other side.

but kind of explaining it with a hammer and anvil/Vulkan metaphor since she obviously just heard the stories (and it might get the sergeant to agree), and isn't yet a great tactician.

Supporting... but I'm going to point out that this is just an elaborate way of restating what the knight already offered to do. Still, serving as a distraction is more compatible with our plan than traveling with us, and I think our chances are better with a knight and some surprise than with no knight and more surprise.

Ninety-Nine looked at her thunder hammer, the beautiful designs hid beneath the layer of gore and dirt. She pointed at the knight.

“You are made of metal like an anvil. If we approach from different sides then it will be like the forge of Vulkan!”

That analogy… did not make sense to the Salamander but Sran’skan was glad Ninety-Nine became a devotee to Vulkan. A veteran such as he smelled lie uttered within the first words, this may be the first time he found no lie from the inquisition.

+++A pincer attack?+++

“What’s a pincer?”

+++A joke, how merry!+++ The knight boomed again joyously. +++I shall follow far from the tyranid’s eyes, a lone freeblade seeking for glory.+++

“Sergeant?” Sran’skan said. “It would be a boon for us to gain assistance from a knight. I wish to hear your thoughts.”

“Then we’ll have to walk at least thirty klicks after finding the shelled maw.” Thump said, he paused to ponder. “The knight needs to act as if it’s alone and far from us, at least twenty klicks.”

Sran’skan looked back up.

“Will that be acceptable?” Sran’skan said.

+++I accept.+++

Ninety-Nine returned to the land raider and continued to ride on top of the raider with a magnoculars, watching. Hours have passed since then, she looked up to see a flock of tiny sky-slashes soaring in a black mass. Ninety-Nine saw a small circular figure, moving inch by inch at the edge of the horizon.

“I see it!” Ninety-Nine said into the helmet’s micro-bead.

The land raider halted. Thump and Sran’skan observed from their magnoculars.

“That’s the shelled maw alright.” Thump said. “It’s not alone as I thought. This is where we start walking.”

“I’ll go look for a route.” Ninety-Nine said. “Wait here.”

“Alone?” Sran’skan said. “Are you sure that is a wise decision?”

Ninety-Nine shrugged.

“I can handle it.”

After a brief scouting, Ninety-Nine used her hive-mind ability to divert the patrols away from the path and to see if there are other kins that might alert their positions. Ninety-Nine returned without a single scratch, earning a simple nod from one of the Catachan Devils. Later on, The Black Dragons, The Catachan Devils, and Ninety-Nine arrived at the hill of a cliff where they saw the shelled maw would soon cross. The maze of trees were consumed in every inch the tyranid forces crawled.

“How come no one is attacking the maw?” Ninety-Nine said.

“Because we’re here, there’s been an order to clear a path by the high command. No knights other than Suleimen.” Thump said. “You’re sure there are no other bugs that might ambush us?”

Ninety-Nine closed her eyes and tilted her head up then back down.

“Nope!” Ninety-Nine said.

“How… how do you know that?” The Catachan Devil said.

“I just do.” Ninety-Nine said.

“Enough chit chatting.” Thump said. “My lord?”

“Our best option is to deliver this melta bomb to the shelled maw as Suleiman distracts the tyranid force.” Sran’skan said.

One of the other astartes stepped forward with a large cylindrical metal case. There was a number pad and the sigil of the Black Dragon with a handle on top. Ninety-Nine thought this was the special lunch pack that she fantasized when she was bored.

“A melta bomb won’t be enough, with all due respect lord.” Thump said.

“A normal melta bomb won’t be, this has been specially crafted by our chapter’s forge.” Sran’skan said. “This has ten times the power of a charged melta bomb.”

“Then someone has to plant it or at least throw it.” Thump said.

Everyone in the squad volunteered, descending into who would be the fastest or the strongest to push through.

“I will go.” Ninety-Nine declared.

“You?”

“I can do this.”

The Catachan Devils thought about interjecting, but then their eyes drifted to the thunder hammer resting on her shoulder. Not just a thunder hammer, an astartes thunder hammer. That, and her scouting ability through the tyranid infested planet also made them to have a second thought. The states nodded in approval, as did the Catachan Devil.

“Do you know how to operate this?”

She shook her head.

“I will give you a brief lesson then.”

Ninety-Nine learned the melta bomb’s control. A dial controlling the time needed to be first set, then a confirmation button. Despite the melta bomb’s boisterious Nocturne designs, the melta bomb’s system was rather simple. The tactic was briefly discussed. The distraction team would attack first, then let the knight attack from behind, forcing the shelled maw to turn around to kill the bigger threat. This would be when Ninety-Nine would plant the bomb and run. After the tactic discussion, Ninety-Nine wrapped the bomb with her tail gently.

“Before we go, I must ask, what is that tail of yours? Is it a mechadendrite or an implant?”

“Uh…” Ninety-Nine’s tail stood upright. “Mechadendrite. A gift from the tech priests.”

“Impressive.” Sran’skan observed the tail briefly. “Emperor guide you, little one.”

“We’ll see you later for a victory drink later eh?”

Ninety-Nine nodded.

“Emperor protect you, all of you.”

Ninety-Nine waited for the battle to begin… but she realized, can’t she just walk up to the shelled maw and plant the bomb without waiting for the battle?

Ninety-Nine could only wait as the battle raged on. Bolter and las exploded into rapid firing. Kins shrieked. No tyranids flew in the air, only ground forces that the astartes and the Catachan Devils held off with relative ease. Two astartes’ adamantium dipped claws with Sran’skan in the front. Two supporting astartes laid precision bolter shots to cover their battle brothers. The lasguns seared the tyranid flesh with righteous fury, finishing off any tougher enemies weakened by bolters.

“It’s turning toward us!” Ninety-Nine listened through the micro-bead. “Termagaunts, we got termagaunts and hormagaunts, watch those acids!”

“Tyranid warriors! We need you now knight!”

The armiger knight tore through the trees. The reaper chainsword tore through every tyranid and the thermal spears incinerate the ground troops. However, against the shelled maw the armiger was twice smaller. The bio-titan slowly turned, but the lashwhips did not. Suleiman’s nimble body dodged the snapping whips, firing the thermal lance that only warmed up the nautolid in a comfortable temperature.

+++Now it’s you, inquisition!+++

Ninety-Nine wrapped the melta bomb in her tail firmly, then sprinted. With quick uses her tyranid hive mind the masses of swarms parted ways. The tyranid warriors soon came into her view. Ninety-Nine tried to find a strand to control, something she could snip and connect to her own to control.

But nothing.

The tyranid warriors' role as synaptic link to the hive fleet and the hive mind made their connection too strong. Perhaps larger and less controlled creature would do, but not creatures like the tyranid warriors.

‘Order. Attack.’

Ninety-Nine heard the amplified order from the tyranid warrior.

‘Order. Attack.’

The hive mind spoke once more. The other warriors turned their attention to Ninety-Nine baffled by the strange tyranid that was Ninety-Nine.

Bone swords chopped and their bio guns nearly hit Ninety-None but was always out of their reach. Ninety-Nine’s feet stomped through the mud and grass, once she was near to the shelled maw, the bio titan did not notice Ninety-Nine thanks to the knight.
