What needed to be done.

Pangea scoffed. This courtesy was to be done out of preventing Lorgar's rage. Nothing more. Later in the day, Pangea sent the recording to Lorgar without much of a thought.

Old Gods.

Old Faith.

A world already tainted. Disgust prickled her throat as she stared at Colchis from the bridge inside Hydra. The dark grey interior and Hydra's familar clicks and low hums echoed softly unlike the almost silent interiors of Bucephelus. Diani stood on Pangea's left, silent but dutiful as ever with Hector at the head of the bridge overseeing security with Hayward.

“This planet should be just colonized by Imperium citizens instead of leaving it untouched or unstripped.”

To think those misguided worshippers would be part of the Imperial Army, the very thought wanted her to gag. Certainly, due to being a homeworld of primarch the Colchisian forces will gain certain privileges that no other regiments will have. The thought stoked her disdain hotter.

“At the very least, that damn monastery should be blown up.”

“Shall I inform the Master of Ordinance and prepare some refreshments for the viewing?” Diani said playfully.

Pangea rolled her eyes.

“Funny.”

The dark grey interior and Hydra's familar clicks and low hums echoed softly. Hector climbed up the stairs to Pangea, his jaws clenched with a worried gaze. He eyed the tabac stick nestled between her index and middle finger.

“Lorgar Aurelion has arrived, your eminence.”

Pangea blowed out a puff of smoke.

“Good, tell him I'll meet him in my office.”

Pangea always thanked Diani's work. The once blanket of parchments, used quills, and dried inkwell that habitated on her wooden table disappeared. A circular ceiling light with hanging chains of glass and different shaped lamps made from various materials illuminate her office. Various scented candles were scattered in small corners and on top of cabinets and containers, leaving no corners unlit and shrouded. Beige marble floor reflected the light, almost glowing from how much the floor bounced back the light.

“Sister.”

Lorgar on the red carpet that stretched from the entrance to her table. Pangea's eyes watched Lorgar's steps, and saw his feet stepping on the Aquila without much of a thought. Lorgar sat on the large chair clearly fit for an astartes or a short primarch on his own.

“Tea?” Pangea gestrued toward a Primarch sized cup with a large teapot.

“Please." Lorgar took the cup and sipped on the tea. "The brew is elegant, thank you.”

“I'm glad. I invited you here to inform you of this.”
>>
Pangea played the recording and watched Lorgar's face not changing once. Not even a brow creasing. His emotions tasted bland, with a faint sourness of annoyance and twinge of regret, her responded as if he lost a book he had yet to finish reading.

“I see. What will you do then?” Lorgar said.

“Before I decide, I wish to hear what you will prefer.”

“I wish to know, as Father's inquisitor, do you not realize what you do is no different from those who did the same?”

“Inquisitors, by definition, are agents under an institution making an inquiry. I eliminate threats against humanity.” Pangea said.

“Under whose authority?” Lorgar said.

Pangea's jaw clenched, patience already on the verge of breaking.

"Father's and my uncle's who is the Lord Regent and Father's advisor."

Lorgar nodded, a thin plastic smile formed.

“And I will serve Father, we are not so different, you and I. We both want what is humanity's best interest.” Lorgar said sincerely. “I can only assume this...
terseness is from your foresight. But know that I will never be the monster you see me as.”

“We shall see. Now, your answer.”

“I have none, I will leave my archdeacon's fate in your hands.”

“Then I will make my judgment.”

After the departure from Colchis the news arrived...

>Kor Phaeron died due to poison in his wine, which later Deacon Hayes was discovered to be the perpetrator of which led to his execution. Lorgar would
remain the ruler of Colchis. Colonists soon arrived to Colchis to survey the land for natural resources.
>Kor Phaeron would stay in Colchis, and would act as Colchis's Liason to the new arriving colonists to begin surveying Colchis for any valuable resources.

These guys are religious fanatics and they wholeheartedly believe in the Emperor, l'm sure that they'll be able to do a thorough purge of the planet and any further recruits from Colchis will be 100% loyal to the Emperor.
Plus, letting them do this in the name of the Emperor should show Lorgar that we're not here to burn his religion into the ground.

Despite the disdain that Pangea shares with her father and uncle, I’d like to think that she sees a practical value to having that faith around.

On a side note, I hope that Big E also comes around sooner or later. All that warp power via worship has to go somewhere, you know? And even if he outlaws religion, people will still keep that faith in a different form. Better that it’s directed toward Big E than some nebulous figure in the Warp that could potentially use it against him.

I wonder if the general direction of this could be fluffed as Pangea approaching Lorgar’s religious beliefs with a different method than she did with Rackham? In the latter case, simply telling him “you’re wrong stop doing that” didn’t seem to do much. Perhaps diverting that energy to a useful end could be better than causing a schism?

Yeah, I'm hoping that the Emperor, being a relatively pragmatic man on most topics except religion, would learn to utilize faith in a more productive/positive way for the Imperium, especially in a universe where strong faith can literally manifest super power.
I do feel bad that we didn't really make any headway with Rackham, hopefully we can do better with Lorgar and maybe set them up together so they won't be so isolated.

If Pangea doesn’t get some good support soon, she might start spiraling. Here’s to hoping one of her brothers pulls through.

Kor Phaeron and his associates were publicly executed and their crime of plotting against the Emperor and the Imperium made known to the populace. The people of Colchis must remain watchful for any sign of treachery and hunt for any other traitors on their planet.

Thus ended her time in Colchis.

Yet, an uneasiness tugged at her mind. Be it paranoia or worry, Pangea let her mind rest. The dark influence hand had been wrenched off, all that needed to be done was to watch Lorgar and Rackham. She leaned back on the soft office chair with a cup of tea in one hand and a quill in another. Sure, some documents needed to be signed and orders approved, but no mission from her uncle meant she could take her time. Also, working in her office meant people assumed she was working when in fact, she was…

>Writing a steamy romance
>Writing an erotica
>Doodling

Next to her written works were documents that she already signed and prepared to be handed to her subordinates. The door to her office opened after three solid knocks, Hector entered.

“Good afternoon, your eminence. I hope you are not busy?”

Pangea hid the parchments in folders absentmindedly, looking up at Hector instead of her parchments.

“I’m not and I have your supply requisition form approval here.” Pangea said.

“Thank you, your eminence. I’ll leave you to your work.”

Pangea nodded. After a brief nap, Pangea gathered her literary masterpiece to destroy per protocol. Except, when she opened the folder the parchment contained the signed supply requisition approval. Pangea grimaced, her heartbeat quickened. Pangea began her desperate chase.

Pangea began her desperate chase, the most important chase in Imperium’s recorded history. She activated her vox that would be heard all throughout the ship. There was no time to waste.

“All hands on deck! I repeat all hands on deck!”

Her voice rang all throughout the halls and corners of Hydra. The thunderous but feminine voice rang. The workers lifted their heads, the astartes continued their patrols, and her retinue scrambled for their weapons.

“Hector Werserian, you must report to the bridge immediately and not open the requisition form!”

At the bridge, Hector waited. Pangea glared at him, eyes wide and hair frizzled and puffy covering her face. The crew ignored the scene ahead, too busy and afraid of the consequence of eavesdropping. Hector stood, one hand behind his back and the other presenting the folder. Before a word uttered out of his lips, Pangea snatched the folder faster than lightning.

“Did you read it?”

Hector paused.

“No.”

Pangea tasted the bitter regret and a tinge of sour yet sweet embarrassment. What she could not understand was the sweetness. Happiness? Elation? Why?

“You read it,” Pangea said, heat radiating from her cheeks. “You read it! Don’t lie to me Hector Werserian you read it!”

Hector sighed.

“I did. For what it’s worth, it was quite er… passionate. A fast-paced edge of your seat brain melting romance.” Hector quickly added further. “In a good way! Phenomenal is what I meant to say!”

Pangea covered her face.

“Your eminence.” A young voidsman said, clearly not wanting to be between. “I’m terribly sorry to interrupt but you have a message from Terra.”

“What does it say?” Hector said.

“You are to return for a campaign in Neptune.” The Voidsman said.

“Understood, you are dismissed.”

The voidsman bolted away. Hector waited for her response.

It was Sebastian Thor the guy who overthrew the shit ass wannabe dictator Goge Vandire who made the sister of battle from the remains of Goge Vandires "Brides of the emperor" who were originally a small female cult from San Leor who practised a more ascetic and rigours version of the faith which included a strong emphasis on martial training.

And it was mostly because Sebastian realized that all those people promising to protect the church if he disbanded the frateris templar were not at all willing to put their money where their mouth was.

Then it mostly got allowed because the other high lords or space marine chapter masters were to busy cock slapping each other or were willing to concede the smaller sisters of battle in return for disbanding the frateris templar.

Hector's eyes glanced away from the princess's earnest eyes, shining like the most precious jewels in all of galaxy. Try as he might, no amount of self-delusion could ever muster him to like the mess. Unrealistic characters, jumbled plots, and the sheer projection of the princess's wish made the slop pitiful. Yet, this mess of a literary corpse brought more endearment for the princess.

“Y—" Hector sighed. “No. It's simply not for me, I doubt my family will approve of it either. Not that I’d care for it.”

“I see…” Pangea said. “Well that does make sense. Forgive me, I was too excited.”

“Of course.” Hector replied with a curt nod. “If I may be forward, you can submit this to a publisher under a false name. While it is not my preference, I'm certain you'll find an audience.”

“Really, do you think so?”

“You have the passion for it.” Hector said, neither confirming nor denying. “If there's anyone who can succeed through hard work, it's you.”

A hot blush tickled her cheeks. Perhaps, her little dream would come into reality in the future. When The Great Crusade reached the end, an author's life suited her fine... maybe with someone to be with.
>>
Pangea walked the halls alone after ordering her retinue, crew, and her nephews to rest. Away from the spiraling hives, no busy sounds penetrated the auramite walls. The Imperial Palace may be a castle, but the Sanctum Imperialis and its inner rooms were home.

Pangea walked past the gate that led to her room and The Chambers of Auspicious Conquerors. Rays of sunlight poured through the windows in the halls. Auramite walls shone warmly, bathing Pangea’s weary eyes and cold skin in a loving embrace. At the hall that led to her room, a giant stood. His thick blonde hair turned toward Pangea. His lips peeled back into a snarling grin as she approached her.

“You are Pangea, yes?” A guttural growl marred his gothic. “I am Leman, King of The Russ.” He slapped his chest with a beaming pride.

“Nice to meet you, Leman. I’m happy to be reunited.” Pangea said.

“You are not like my brothers, are you? Not a primarch?”

The sting lasted for a brief moment, but still bothered that the word affected her. Pangea tasted curiosity in Leman more than hostility. Though she could tell his beastly ways hid his cunning nature. He was calm, calculating, emotions suppressed and replaced by analyzing thoughts.

“I am not a primarch.”

“But you are a warrior and a wise woman, much like the shield maidens,” Leman said sincerely. “Father and Uncle said you are a huntress of foul beasts and magics.”

“Something like that.” Pangea said, her head rose high and she stood taller. “Though I suggest you ask Father if you wish to know more. I am not the right person when it comes to teaching someone.”

“I will,” Leman said. “I never had a sister. What do you do with our other brothers?"

“Fulgrim and I drink tea.”

Leman’s eyes did not change. His lips pulled down then back with a confused squint of his icy blue eyes. He scratched his head, unsure if he heard his sister’s answer, his sister, the woman who destroyed a planet and killed warlock with ease.

“Tea?” Leman said. “That is what you do?”

Pangea shrugged.

“Fulgrim can brew really good tea no matter the blend. Honestly, Fulgrim is good at just about everything.” Pangea said with a proud smile. “Have you met him yet?”

“I’ve met Angron. A fierce warrior and a diplomat. It’s rare to see both on Fenris.” Leman said. “He said you like to spar. You use a bow and spear, ja?”

His feral grin aimed at his sister. A simple excitement and hope emanated from his fanged smile. He looked down, eyes scanning his little sister like a wolf on the prowl. Lithe limbs, pretty face, behind the initial appearance he saw a warrior. The callous on her hands, the unwavering eyes, he did not need to be told his sister was no shiny sword made to be admired.

“When I need to. Fighting is a means to an end.” She stared at her hand. “I don’t like fighting as much as I did back then. Angron’s great too, I’m sure he can subdue a planet with his words or his hands.”

Pangea looked up at her brother, dressed in a black tunic with a wolf pelt worn across his chest with fur cuffs and a fang necklace. No king can win with only might, Leman, beneath his barbarian costume, saw a primarch with a calculating mind.

“I have some time to spare, would you like to come inside?”

“How about a fight?” Leman said. “Angron obliged and told me your speed is formidable.”

Pangea planned to train in the Tower of Hegemon, no doubt called if she did not enter on her own. The comforting air of her home lulled her, her heavy eyes wanted to close. A nap sounded more alluring than a spar.

“One round. I’m still tired from my journey.”

“That’s the spirit!”

The training arena inside her brothers’ chambers was a mile wide, with machines, weights, and training weapons of the highest quality. At the center was a wide open field with a circle painted on the floor. Leman brandished a double headed ax and Pangea took her usual training version of Palatine. Pangea held her spear with a loose grip, feet slightly tipping up and her legs spread.

“Come at me then!”

Pangea did not reply. Leman huffed frustratedly, he hunched forward, his legs bent down, in a matter of seconds he closed the distance with one leap. The battleax danced, biting through the wind as the blade missed the Pangea’s dodging. She jumped back, eyes fixed to Leman with a neutral expression. Pangea already knew she was no match for Leman, he was fast, if not for her small frame she’d been hit already.

This spar would end with her defeat. She could only control how the fight would end.

I wish for a caveat. If it would be a mortal wound or a hit to the throat, then do it.
If not, Just wear him.out.

Use her psychic power to strengthen her attack to match Russ' swings. If it's a fight he wants then it's a fight he'll get.
Need to show him that there's more to psyker power than just trickery.

Pangea abandoned defensive tactics, she would lose, but getting a hit would be satisfying. Palatine responded in kind, aggression with aggression, a volley of thrust lunged with fury. Leman laughed, blocking every attack with absolute ease. While her thrust felt like attacking a giant slab of auramite, Leman’s swings struck like a giant slab of auramite and fast as lightning. Her heart pace quickened, adrenaline coarse through her veins, her eyes darted frantically looking for the next attack.

In the split second, Pangea opted for a block.

The force knocked her footing, before her back hit the ground Pangea took the momentum to flip back to an even footing and distanced herself. Leman did not give chase, he instead walked forward, his battleaxe tucked between his side and arm as he clapped.

“Well done! Not even the best warriors on Fenris can move like you. We can continue on another time.” Leman said. “You are still tired from your trip, ja?”

She was no primarch. She knew this. She’d prefer an insult than pity. Once again, Pangea sensed no hostility or impudence. He meant every word, and knew fully well his sister was… beneath him and his brothers.

“I… I am.” Pangea said, swallowing her anger with a thin smile. “If you will excuse me, I will go first.”

“I’ve brought Fenrisian Ale, how about—”

“No.” Pangea snapped, replying with a sharp tone that she was surprised with. “No, thank you.”

Pangea treaded the hall in silence, acrid spite built up in her heart, she needed to relax.

Pangea left the Sanctum Imperialis, and into the Outer Walls in disguise and her psychic ability suppressed her presence, while not invisible, she appeared as a normal civilian. Being invisible could cause more trouble and required unnecessary concentration for a brief walk.

The Outer Walls, also known as Outer Palace, are composed of the middle nobility of Terra, those not important enough to reside in the Inner Palace but important enough to be in the vicinity. The path from Sanctum Imperialis to Outer Palace was many, one route Pangea preferred was a mag-lev rail to a supply depot at Lion’s Gate Space Port then back up to the top of the Outer Palace.

“Did you hear? Some of the primarchs are back from the crusade!”

“I did, I saw the astartes at the spaceport! Fearsome looking they are, I’ll tell you that.”

Tall towers, spires, and arches choked the sky. Webs of bridges and roads connected every corners of the streets. Encased in metal and supporting golden alloys, the buildings shone bright as humanity's future. Pangea walked through the clean streets, the children ran past as they giggled.

“One day, I’m gonna be a space marine!” A boy said.

“I want to be a fighter pilot like my

Proud banners of the legiones astartes hung high above. Not only the heradry of the legions, but her brothers, even Rackham. Each of their faces were captured by the greatest artists, depicting her brothers as demi-gods rather than humans. Fulgrim’s banner had the most female admirers, and Pangea knew well he would preen if he ever saw the scenery. Among the banners, Pangea did not found hers, not even on recruitment posters, a faceless soldier took her place instead. She never was part of any posters or Imperial news. She looked up, her hands balled into fists.

“You are not like my brothers, are you? Not a primarch?”

The words stung.

She would always be the little sister. Always beneath them, under their shadows, having a legion of her own meant nothing. Even her reason for her creation was meant to serve the primarchs. Pangea continued to stare at the banners, she heard footsteps approaching behind.
>>
“Aren’t they dreamy?”

A young girl, similar to her age with fair skin with long red hair said. She wore a red and black dress with an open black tunic with white frills. A noble girl, one who never saw the horrors of the galaxy where boredom would be her greatest threat.

“Excuse me?”

“The primarchs, I can look at the banners all day. Especially Lord Angron.” The girl said. “I’m Bridget Olva Pius.”

“Nice to meet you. I'm Gaia.”

“I don’t see girls walking around alone often and you don’t look like a servant,” Bridget said, she looked up and down. “You’re dressed boyishly, I wish my father would let me dress like you. A dress is so hard to move in sometimes.”

“What about a toga?” Pangea said.

She shook her head.

“Then I’ll get called a Princess wanna-be and no one wears a toga since they can't look good as the princess does. She can look good in anything I swear.” Bridget let out a defeated sigh. “Hey Gaia, if you got nothing to do, would you like to accompany me to a parlor?”

Maybe we can be a wing-woman for one of our brothers?
>>
Pangea shrugged. Uncle and Father did not order her to see them, and no other business required her attention. She would indulge with the girl, Pangea hoped some normalcy would help her ease her frustration.

“Lead the way.”

“Wonderful!”

Unlike the metal interior, the parlor kept a wooden interior, or at the very least, appeared to have one. The checker pattern floor shined, waxed and polished much as the halls in the palace. Pangea noticed the lack of men in the room, only women at her age or younger. The pict-cast showed only the clean footage of the Great Crusade, rather, only handsome men of the Imperial Army, The Imperial Navy, and the primarchs, once again leaving Pangea’s face out of the spotlight.

This is a parlor… Pangea scanned the area.

“Come on, there’s a seat over there.”

Pangea and Bridget settled into a wooden table and chair with soft cushions.

“It’ll be my treat. Is there anything you want?” Bridget said.

“I’ll have what you’ll have.”

“Ackenberry soft serve it is,” Bridget said.

A tall glass of dairy-based iced treat arrived with a drizzle of ackenberry sauce. Pangea melted at the sweet flavor, her gaze fixated on the icy treat, she forgot the last time she indulged herself so gaudily.

“So, Gaia. Are you from Terra?”

“I am visiting.” Pangea said. “You must be from Terra, your dress is fantastic.”

She preened, not noticing the change of topic.

“Oh it is, isn’t it? I had it made from the same tailor that made the princess’s toga!” Bridget said.

Pangea realized she never met a girl of her age outside her duty. Daemons, cultists, xenos, she had seen them plenty. Killed anything that stood her way. But never someone so normal, someone so blissfully unaware.

“Do you have any hobbies?”

Pangea stirred the half finished soft serve.

“Promise not to laugh, but I like to read…” She leaned forward. “Romance novels.”

Pangea’s eyes flickered up. Bridget blushed, breaking away from Pangea’s gaze.

“I know it’s childish and—”

“I like writing and reading romance novels.” Pangea said.

“You… you do?” Bridget slammed her hand on the table and shot up. She clasp her hands together and bounced “I do too! Oh I knew you and I
were going to be good friends! Are you finished with your soft serve?”

“Yes but I should—”

“I’ll lend you some of my favorites, I’m sure you’ll come back to Terra. Come on!”

Bridget led to a quaint home of three stories, where Bridget showed all her romance novels in bookshelves in a small library made for her by her father. They discussed favorite novels, tragic romance, comical romance, and even romance with actions Anything that had to do with reading romance and writing romance. Though Pangea did not share her works, she certainly learned more from Bridget.

“And you promise to visit?”

“If I am able to, I will send word.” Pangea held a stack of books. “Are you sure you don’t mind giving these to me?”

“I can buy them again. Not like they’re limited editions.” Bridget said. “If you’re going to travel for a while I’m sure they can help you alleviate your
boredom. If you can write me a letter?”

Pangea nodded.

“I will. I promise.”

Pangea returned to the Inner Palace, she skipped throughout the halls and hummed a nice tune. Today was a good day. The next morning however, Pangea waited for a summon or a message. Yet, none arrived in the morning.

Pangea entered The Sigilite’s Retreat.

An earthy scent, the old smell of books. Pangea traced her hand on the stone walls. Memories unraveled before her eyes. Days of her childhood, fleeting and sweet, ignorant. Pangea closed her eyes to take in the air. Pangea walked past the wooden rocking chair. She looked up to see the second floor also being empty.

“Uncle?” Pangea said.

No words replied.

“Uncle!”

Two days have passed since her arrival on Terra. Neither Father nor uncle called for her.

“Daughter.”

No footsteps. Not even a psychic presence. Pangea whipped around, hand reaching for her hidden dagger tucked on her back. The blade let out a metal hiss, Pangea left hand glowed in crackling blue.

“Astarte.” Pangea snarled, she pulled her combat knife. “This area is off limits for people like you.”

The woman rolled her eyes.

“Please, as if I have something to gain from this pitiful room. Your father also allows me access. Much has passed since your absence. Malcador and your father are busy.” Astarte interlocked her fingers together, her shoulders tightened, she gazed up with hope in her eyes. “I was hoping we could talk. Mother to daughter.”

Pangea did not sense hostility, then again she sensed nothing, blocked by the psychic barrier. Astarte levitated two chairs facing one another and sat. Pangea sat across, if she was alone without supervision, maybe a lot did change the past five years. Astartes crossed her legs, her interlocked hands rested on her knees.

Astarte remained calm.

A simple mother and daughter talk.

But what would she ask about?

“Are you doing well?”

Pangea shrugged.

Question. Will adding a game mechanic like in tyranid girl quest will be a deal breaker for you?
>>
>>6194815
I don't mind more gameplay since this is basically a CYOA as is, but what would it actually entails?
>>
>>6194817
When it comes to some combat, convincing or investigations, like a very light ttrpg. It's similar to Kids On Bike but tailored to this quest. I recommend you check out Tyranid Girl quest to get a good idea.

Say for example, Pangea need to convince her brother let's say Lion (cause he's a prick), she'd roll a dice plus the stat's modifier. Hope that helps.
>>
“I heard you visited Colchis and met Lorgar. Tell me about him.”

Pangea crossed her arms, she sneered not at Astarte but the very name. No longer did she stare past her, but at her. Her nose wrinkled and her lips twisted to a scoff, Astarte did not need to use her psychic powers to tell a great wave of displeasure Pangea had in meeting her brother. A small part of her found the reaction endearing, and mostly disappointed. Was that her motherly instinct that made her disappointed or was Pangea just special? She certainly tried to know her children, but their homeworld molded them beyond her grasp. At least Pangea knew her and was raised on Terra.

“I don’t like Lorgar.” Pangea said.

Astarte giggled quietly.

“I can tell. Is this because of your visions?” Astarte said.

Pangea narrowed her eyes. On closer look, Astarte truly did share resemblances with herself. The shape of her eyes, nose, and her head shape, even the slight curl in her hair that allowed her to stylize her hair with ease.

“How much has Father told you about me?”

“Enough. You forget, daughter, your father and I have known each other longer than the founding of The Imperium.” Astarte said. “Do you dislike Lorgar because of what you saw, or what he is now?”

“What he is now.” Pangea said venomously. “He is a primarch, gifted with Father’s genetics and grown with his knowledge. He should have known better. Lorgar and Rackham. They squander their birthright.”

“You speak as if you do not have the same thing.” Astarte said.

“I’m not a primarch.” Pangea said bitterly. “They are. No matter what I will never be on their level.”

“Child,” Astarte said gently. “You have been gifted the most important aspect of your father.”

Pangea looked away, or at least tried to hide her interest. However, her hand idly tucked her hair behind her ear.
“Well, what is it?”

“His potential.” Astarte said. “No psykers can learn as fast as you can or break limits time and time again. It will take hard work, but you’re no stranger to that. Value yourself more and do not let comparison steal the fruits of your labor.”

Astarte leaned forward, her handstroked Pangea’s head. Unlike Father’s the movement was human, not calculated and warm. The door opened again. Malcador and a custodian entered.

“It seems my time is up,” Astarte said. “I will see you soon, Pangea.”

“Thank you, I’ll remember what you said.”

Astarte nodded and smiled. Pangea ran toward Malcador and embraced him which he returned. Pangea then greeted Longinus. Malcador ignored Astarte as she walked past and exited the room.

“Come along, Pangea. There is something we need to discuss.”

“We’re not going to talk here?”

“The discussion is not to be spoken in an open space. We will speak below.”

Pangea followed through the halls and stairs that led to the Dark Cell. Unlike her first time, the whispering madness and seeping dread felt dull and Pangea easily shrugged off any intrusive fear. Her time as an inquisitor gave her ample experience to not fear treading the halls of the Dark Cell. The fear remained, but she accepted them and learned to push forward. Pangea traced her hand on the smooth wall, knowing full well this was about Roith.

“Sit.” Malcador said.

Inside a small and empty room, an iron lantern dimly lit the room. Pangea sat across Malcador.

“The destruction of Roith was justified. I will not tell you how to cope with the decision you have made because there are times where I reminisce.” Malcador said with an understanding gaze. “How are you faring?”

Pangea’s shoulders sagged as she sighed relievedly.

“I… I am well. The exterminatus on Roith was my decision, and I must carry that weight.” Pangea said.

“Your retinue is supportive of your decision?"

“They are,” Pangea said, smiling. “I couldn’t ask for a better retinue.”

“Good.” Malcador paused briefly. “Your knowledge of daemons are only on a surface level. In the future, the Inquisition will be formally structured with ranks and protocols. You will be under my tutelage, and then you will patrol the dark cells for your training.”

A jolt of fear struck Pangea.

“Am—Am I truly prepared?”

“You will be tutored, your first assignment will be…”

“You will be tutored, your first assignment will be Patrolling the Vault of The Old Night.”

The name struck in Pangea’s confidence.

“The Age of Strife…” Pangea whispered.

“Are you afraid?”

Pangea bit her lips, unsure how to answer. She nodded. The Dark Cells were protected by custodians exclusively for a reason. To walk the very halls of the Old Night prisoners meant facing the evil that even Father could not destroy, or so dangerous that his pinnacle soldiers needed to contain them.

“I am.”

“Fear is a good tool if used right. Do not forget that emotion, but never forget that fear cannot control you. Your new training will be unlike anything you have faced. Your retinue and your astartes will take on duties away from the frontlines and will be informed. Rest well, Pangea.”

Pangea returned to the Sanctum Imperialis Principa. Due to the private and the exclusive nature of the area, not many personnel roamed. Despite the bright rays of sunlight, fear darkened her mood. Pangea ordered a servant to bring all books on the Age of Strife from the archive, and spent all afternoon gorging on every knowledge available. From the beginning where the Men of Iron mysteriously disappeared, from Father’s emergence on Terra, nothing escaped Pangea’s desperate hunger.

A knock interrupted her session. Stacks of books surrounded her bed. The sun had already left and draped the palace in darkness. Heavy footsteps, far too heavy for a custodian and as not as soft as an astartes. Not to mention, she already heard his voice.

“What is it, Leman?” Pangea called from her bed.

“The night is still young, how about you, my sons and I go for a night of drinking. We’ve fought but yet to share a drink!"

“I’m going to bed. Leman. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Pangea returned to her book.

“I also brought wine and fruits you like! Come now, don’t you want to know what Fenrisian Ale is like? You won’t regret it!”

Either Leman was playing the barbarian king for his men, or he still thought his sister was an idiot. Pangea sighed.

“I’ll be out in a moment.”

A thundering cheer boomed.

Pangea dressed into a simple toga. Once she opened the door Leman and his sons beamed.

“I knew you couldn’t resist!” Leman said.

The smile irritated her. Up in the Katabat Terrace, Leman poured a tankard full of Fenrisian Ale. She had to admit, while strong the spiced honey did sit right. Pangea patronized the barbarians who had yet to be augmented, Leman told stories from his birth to meeting his Father and acted as a translator for the visitors. The last thing Pangea expected was her brother being raised by wolves which proved to be true. That was no tall tale.

“So, tell me brother,” Pangea said, she glanced at the two humans who went from reveling to sleeping.

The sweetness of the honey eased the spicy yet nutty flavor. Pangea sipped on her tankard of Fenrisian ale. Diani was with her family, Hector with his old friends to assist his old colleagues, The rest of her retinue were on shore leave then were to be assigned non-combat duties. Pangea placed the tankard down gently and bit into the melon’s soft flesh elegantly, ensuring no juices would stain her toga.

“Do you think of me a fool when you masquerade as a barbarian?”

“A fool?” Leman smiled with a snarl, his sharp teeth glinting from the pyres that lit the garden. “Come now, sister, your words will sour the mjold!”

“Leman.” Pangea said with a tired bitterness, cheeks flushed and tongue loose. “Deception is a weapon to use against the enemy, not family.”

Leman leaned back, he released his tankard and glanced at his sleeping guards. The toothy grin deflated and his wide eyes softened. The clenched jaw loosened as his body relaxed. For a woman so small, he never met a gaze heavier than before.

“Is that what you see me as? A liar?” The growling accent disappeared, a flawless high gothic flowed through his lips.

“Yes, you are a man forced in a lie that will one day be consumed by it.” Pangea said in high gothic.

Leman sneered.
“What would you know?” Leman said. “You were raised next to Father, spoiled rotten like the princess you are. I am the king of my people, I do not have the luxury of being true to myself.”

Now it was Pangea’s turn, she scoffed.

“Oh I’m spoiled? Rather hypocritical for a man who was engineered to be a demi-god!” Pangea said. “Oh woe is me for I am a king with no equal. ”

“Better a hypocrite than a little girl with a clear envy of her brothers.” Leman stood up from his seat, leaning forward with a twisted scowl. “You are no primarch. You are a mere side project that Father happened to find amusing. A byproduct of leftover scraps.”

The world paused. Hot tears formed from the corners of her eyes.

Ah Leman you play the fool and keep your feelings to yourself but you aren't good with handling it when people don't buy the happy go lucky savage.

Smacking Russ while satisfying should be done at another place and time and in a duel not a sneak warp attack. And i rather like Russ so i do want us to eventually achieve a good relationship with him so lets make it clear we won't play this game without joining him on name calling.

Russ hates psykers despite having rune priests and shit. Not sure if there's a way to make their relationship better until Leman grows up.

I can see young Leman would be like that since later in the HH he realizes he became the lie he tried to maintain, maybe her commnet struck him deeper than he thought.

A wave of anger rampaged in her stomach, turning acidic where she could barely contain herself. However, as a psyker and from her years as an inquisitor she knew better. Pangea stood up and left. At the moonlit hall, Pangea ensured no one was present then wiped her eyes. The first drop rolled down to her chin. A flood of tears broke, staining the auramite floor. She knew the words meant to harm her, yet… they spoke true.

She was made in a pod, unlike her brothers who were handcrafted. Her brothers, gifted with abilities and a legion, had none.

—We found you in the deepest cells of fortress owned by a warlord during the Unification War.—

—I admit, I did not support your creation. I saw no use of a daughter—

It was only after she proved her worth did she gain Father’s attention.

The dark thoughts gathered and burrowed deep within her heart. Tonight, one thing was made clear: Leman Russ was no king, he was a liar and she hated him with all her heart.

The next day, deep within the Dark Cell, Pangea already passed through the various halls and corners with no troubles. She was not led to the vault yet, but taken to a small cell locked with auramite door inscribed with runes. A shadowkeeper opened the door. The cell's cold air bit at her cheeks, and a familiar dread tried to paralyze her. Pangea knelt in front of a large black crystal in the shape of a dodecahedron held by white chains and nails. Green lines of the crystal glowed as the fumes slowly seeped out. This crystal held the daemon of Nurgle known as Sevenfold Trimiasma. All potential recruits of the shadowkeepers must breathe the daemon's fumes for three hours without aid. So, Pangea chose to do it as well despite her uncle's advice.

She was no primarch and Astarte's advise was correct. Comparison was a thief of joy.

She knew this, yet… Leman’s words echoed in her mind. Pangea shook her head, her trial had begun. She needed to focus.

Three hours of agony.

The fumes did not form like gas. No. It wriggled in her lungs. Small strands of threads writhes underneath her skin. An indescribable pungence spread from the stomach from the neck up. The sensation intensified with each inhalation, pain did not describe her whole experience, Pangea could not dare to relive the experience to find the right word. On the third hour, Pangea stumbled out of the cell and fell to her knees.

“Stand up.”

Pangea looked up.

“Valdor?”

Pangea planted her feet to the ground, then lurched up as her thighs pushed upwards. Her footing nearly staggered, but her quick reflex caught herself from falling. This was but the first step. A bead of sweat rolled past her weary eyes and to her chin.

“Are we going to the vault now?”

“No. We are going to train.”

Valdor turned around, Pangea hurriedly followed. Inside the mag-lev rail, Pangea stood in silence.

“To you, what is loyalty?”

Pangea blinked, she looked up to meet Valdor’s gaze. Pangea could not read Valdor;s thought or his emotions. Rather, she tasted none.

“Loyalty is to have the best interests of your chosen cause at heart in everything you do. To obey an order in support but to question seemingly unwise orders, and act with initiative towards its betterment.”

He nodded to feign approval but in reality he was disappointed. Pangea spoke as a leader, not as the agent of The Emperor. That was not loyalty, at least, not the loyalty that he knew. Loyalty was unflinching, unquestioning, needing neither acknowledgement nor rewards. Her definition was so… human, so different from what The Emperor often demanded, not that he ever ignored councils from his companions or forbade questioning him but The Emperor never doubted himself. The daughter was more sincere.

“Would you refuse an order even if it was from your Father?” Valdor said.

“That will depend on the order.” Pangea said. “The Imperium’s goal is saving humanity, a goal important as this I’m certain we will cross many lines… as I already have. We can’t afford to justify all our actions every time. No one is infallible. Not even Father.”

Unreliable. Much like the primarchs, she let her experience shape her. How could she be so similar yet so different from The Emperor? Pangea looked up, boring into his eyes as The Emperor would with his companions.

“And you, Valdor?” Pangea said.

“Devotion.” Valdor said.

“That’s it?” Pangea said.

“That’s all there is.” Valdor said.

The mag-lev’s showed the bright spires of Terra, tall towers that stood over the once strife-ridden world. Pangea smiled as she watched the hives of Terra. While for Valdor, he felt nothing. No pride or joy, nothing. Duty was all he has known and forever will be.

“Was there a time you disagreed with Father?”

“Your creation. Your brothers.”

Pangea stood frozen, she saw no hostility or sensed malice in his words. Then again, custodians and Valdor especially did not emit much emotion. Valdor’s lack of human expressions faltered for someone who was used to discerning motivations and thoughts of others.

“I see…”

“When your brothers were separated, I missed the opportunity to tell The Emperor they should have been left separated. Each returned was different, shaped by their own beliefs and motivations. That is not what The Emperor needs,” Valdor said coldly “I spoke against your creation as well, I saw you only as a burden.”

Valdor committed to every order without question. Except once. He knew he missed his chance to speak against the creation of the primarchs, when The Emperor went ahead to create Pangea, he made his thoughts known. A mistake. Unnecessary. The Emperor agreed, it was Malcador who refuted. Pangea was needed, the primarchs needed a heart for no others will speak plainly, offer comfort, and soothe their turmoils.

Someone “human”.

Valdor thought “pet” fitted better. Valdor pitied her more than anything. Her abilities did assist in finding the primarchs and quelling Chaos cults, but these were jobs a custodes could do and better at that.

“Then why do you bother training me?” Pangea’s voice strained to keep calm. “Because Father told you to do?”

“No.” Valdor said. “Because you changed my view of you, unlike your brothers. You could have lived in a gilded cage and never once worry about hunger or pain. Yet you chose this path all on your own. Not because you were engineered, but because you wanted to.”

The mag-lev’s showed the bright spires of Terra, tall towers that stood over the once strife ridden world. Blimps and ships soared through the skies. The scars of the Old Night no longer existed, as if it never happened at all. The Imperial Palace and the surrounding walls boasted through their elegant yet imposing architecture. Humanity built the palace, piece by piece, under The Emperor’s guidance.

“Your definition of loyalty is incorrect, but I have no doubt you truly support your Father’s dream. That is why I am training you, to be stronger to raise the Imperium to greater heights. You have walked a paath of an Inquisitor. Now it’s to learn what it means to be an Emperor’s Talon.”

After the mag-lev ride, Pangea stepped into the arena of the Tower of Hegemon. Pangea and Valdor faced off, him with his Apollonian Spear and Pangea with Palatine.

“Show me how much you have learned.”

“Show me how much you have learned.”

Pangea immediately bounced away from Valdor and held a defensive stance to seek an opportunity. A thick, red smoke filled the area, though Pangea knew mere smoke would not impede Constantin Valdor, The Captain General of The Adeptus Custodes and the First Custodes ever created*. No, a mere smoke screen did not do enough. Pangea focused. Various quotes and sounds roared in every corner, a nauseatingly sweet scent materialized. Normal man would be blind, deaf, and numbed, not Valdor.

This may as well be some parlor tricks to him.

The Apollonian Spear pierced through the smoke, Pangea barely dodged in time and bounced away. Valdor’s assault did not stop. The Apollonian Spear sailed from all directions, singing as it cut the air. Pangea weaved, parried, made distance and created smoke forms as she dodged. Her focus toppled. The net of distractions disappeared. No opening appeared, rather, she failed to see one.

“You’ve learned the value of patience.” Valdor said between the attacks.

“Well, I am respons—” Pangea guided Palataine in a downward spin to parry the spear’s thrust. “Responsibleformanylives!”

“You are overvaluing patience.” Valdor said

Pangea ducked, she saw the opening on the side and followed through but quickly block and parried. Three hours. Pangea endured three blasted hours of continuous sparring. She ahd to admit, during her crusade not many proposed a challenge in combat. The Hermit was more psyker battle, The Galactic Federation was battle of strategy and Roith was… Roith.

“You have become slow. Careless.” Valdor said. “From now on you will refer to me and my Lockwardens as Magistra.”

“Yes…” Pangea gasped an airful of breath and nodded. “Magistra.”

The next morning, Pangea already arrived at the Dark Cell. Through the thick auramite vault door, Pangea entered the Vault of The Long Night. For her first day with the Lockwarden, Pangea was assigned to…

Through the thick auramite vault door, Pangea entered the Vault of The Long Night. For her first day with the Lockwarden, Pangea was assigned to the Abominable Intelligence Containment Vault. A giant vault door of auramite whined, metal clicks echoed into a strange rhythm and runes of unknown origin glowed in gold as it hummed. Pangea followed Lockwarden into the vault. The cold air swept past, a light tingling tickled her skin and her hair frizzled.

“Have you encountered an AI before?” The Lockwarden said.

“No, Magistra.” Pangea said.

“Treat them like the daemons. Do not give them attention. Do not touch anything. If you sense anything out of place, let me know. Follow.”

A bright blue fluorescent light brightly lit the gargantuan interior. The interior was made of black stone wall and floor. The same hum from the vault door’s runes sang louder, in different rhythms that overlapped one another. Equally giant slabs of white pillars blinked with smaller lights, adorned with wires made of metal and built in screens in languages she never saw before. Those pillars occupied every corner and space, singing the same runes.

“What is this place?”

“The ground floor. These pillars sent a constant emitter to sedate the AI below.” The Lockwarden said. “

Two shadowkeepers patrolled the room. Below, the atmosphere changed. Instead of electronic lights, torches of various sizes illuminated the facility. Black ceramite pods perched on the walls, chained up and draped over by a sheet of white cloaks. Clicks and clacks softly echoed.

“This is where we will patrol.”

The patrol was quiet. Nothing truly extraordinary happened.

+++NEPHILIM DETECTED. ESTABLISHING CONNECTION WITH BIRTHING POD.+++

A voice whispered psychically in a frazzled and frail voice. The Lockwarden did not notice the sound. Pangea sensed the sound coming from a custodes sized cylindrical shaped ceramite container.

“Lockwarden. The pod over there is speaking to me. It called me a Nephilim.”

His head snapped toward the cylindrical pod then to Pangea. The air stilled for three seconds. The Lockwarden extended his open hand.

“Give me your spear.”

Pangea relinquished Palatine, her heart raced, needing faster than a full auto bolter. Four custodes escorted Pangea to the Throne Room. Five more custodies arrived then they brought Pangea to the foot of the Golden Throne where her Father and Uncle Malcador waited.

—I heard from the custodes. Are you well, Pangea?—

—I’m well… you don’t sound alarmed, Father—

Pangea was led to the old laboratory. Much like the vault, the ticklish and cold air brushed her face every step made. The blue lights painted Astarte’s white lab coat and burgundy scrubs. Her long black hair was tied up to a straight tail. Astarte placed the vials back to its holder, she hurriedly walked over but was stopped by The Emperor and the custodes.

—What happened?— Astarte demanded. —I want an explanation.—

—There is nothing wrong.— Father said. —Stand aside. Now.—

Astarte stood still for a moment, then stepped aside.

Pangea never thought to see the pod again. The sapphire syrup glowed as the metal pod hummed in a low pitch. The familiar warmth called to her, Pangea placed her hand on the glass surface of the pod. The blue light reflected back, Pangea stared into the sapphire ocean without a thought. Warmth and a sense of safety loosened her muscles. She did not remember the pod having such an effect before.

—The presence comforts you.—

Pangea jolted back, then cleared her throat.

—I… I suppose it does, Father.—

—That is to be expected. This pod was capable of creating superhumans for any kind of warfare. You were the last intact seed when we found the pod that was successfully cultivated. We could only build on the foundation of what you were already.—

You did not possess any extraordinary abilities but were given the ability to learn and adapt.— The Emperor said, his hand softly stroke her head in the same mechanically movement. —I am proud how far you have learned.—

Pangea held back any external sign of happiness. She was a woman now and should exhibit her control. Though, her heart leapt at the rare attention.

—Father, why did the AI call me a nephilim?—

—That is the name of the project the pod was created for. The AIs were linked to the nephilims for reasons I do not know. Perhaps these AIs were meant to serve the nephilims during a war.—

Suspicion pooled in her guts.

—That does not explain how the AI was able to detect and speak to me psychically.—

—You have an extra organ in your brain that is akin to a biochip, that is how. There are more AIs scattered in the galaxy in bodies meant for war. This biochip may be a detriment to you. The operation may be dangerous, but it is removable. Do you want to?—

This sounds like something that could, at the very least, be situationally very useful. There’s probably some kind of complication associated with it that we will encounter once we face rogue AIs, but I think we should give it a chance.

—I will keep it.—

His eyes narrowed with concern. The tiniest face muscle relaxed soon after.

—Very well, you may return to your duties then.—

The next five years, Pangea studied in the Dark Cells.

She learned xeos biology from The Specimen Containments, where various xenos throughout the ages have lived. Their histories were recorded as well as their autopsy. Pangea learned never to assume a xenos the same way.

In the Alabaster Hall, a vault made for imprisoned daemons. Pangea learned the weakness of the daemons and appropriate measures should there be an incursion. Physical forms were defeated easily much like cultists, but they would always be sent back to the warp. True banishment either required Father or overwhelming psychic powers enough to snuff out the essence of the daemon. It took three years to learn to be prepared should daemons arise in her missions.

—The Star Monarch Sector?—

Inside Father’s personal war room, a flat surface and circular shaped table projected a sector of the galaxy with seven worlds. The hololith showed the ships engaged in naval combat. Recordings showed weapons far beyond the people wielding them, beam weaponries, auramite like materials, strange beasts that trampled astartes, not to mention the well defended walls in every hive of every planet. A single legion would not be enough to stop them.

—You and your retinue will assist your brothers. Eun-Nam will be the first world and will be a staging post. This will not be easy as The Galactic Federation.—

—I understand Father. Who will I be working with?—

It's time to explain to them how faith can affect reality and the best way to channel their belief in Father. Magnus should be able to help us with this since he's the resident warp expert.

Why Magnus anons?
>>
>>6202068
>>—Rogal—
Rogal because he had a massive issue in terms of relationship with Rackham at the start, and its probably even worse now. Rackham legion also massively changed with Pangea intervention. So that would create a campaign with one force (Rogal Legion and Pangea soldiers) being full Imperial Truth and the second force (Rackham and Lorgar Legions) being full Imperial Worship.
Add the abhuman aspect of the homeworld of Rackham and his wife, and that creates even more tension.

Makes for a fun campaign.

Also Lion would be fun, because the first legion has still some issues with Pangea and they wouldn't like Rackham and Lorgar either.

>>6202189
I recon Magnus like Alpharius, Fulgrim and Sanguinus are the ones with the closest ties with her. Even with Magnus experiments, they are both on the same wavelength. It makes the campaign one where they can count on each other while dealing with their religious siblings. It has tensions all the same, but not on the same level and amount of Lion or Rogal.
>>
>>6202068
>—Lion—

Lion is probably the least likely to start a fight with Rackham, so while i would love to have more Dorn he is probably not a good pick here.

Magnus is a wildcard he would either just do the mission no questions asked or he would lord his "i know best" attitude over Rackham.

Lion is the most likely to just ignore Rackham and do the mission.
>>
>>6202236
>>6202189
I’ve also heard that Magnus got along surprisingly well with Lorgar prior to the whole falling to Chaos thing. While early exposure to Rackham might change things a bit, Lorgar seems to at least have more social graces than Rackham does, and as a result doesn’t grate on everyone’s nerves when talking about his faith. Or that he just simply chooses to build rapport instead of trying to convert people right away.
>>6202074
This is also something to consider. Some are trying to see if we can get Big E to accept the empowering faith that people are sending his way. Magnus might be the best qualified Primarch to try and see a pragmatic aspect of this since he’s by far the most learned and warp-y of the choices presented here. Lion or Rogal would be interesting narrative choices for adding friction and challenge to this campaign though.
>>
>>6202268
>I’ve also heard that Magnus got along surprisingly well with Lorgar prior to the whole falling to Chaos thing.
they had good relations, Magnus is in general somewhat diplomatic and again with a good relation with Pangea. So is a good choice for work with the other two and keep their faith in check. The campaign would still have Pangea not working well with Rackham and Lorgar, nevermind their legions.

>Some are trying to see if we can get Big E to accept the empowering faith that people are sending his way.
...i mean Pangea is full Imperial Truth, she is very much an hardliner of it so that "something to consider" quickly goes of a cliff (she had in mind to see Colchis colonized by imperial citizens and see the temples destroyed). She dislikes Rackham and Lorgar for being religious, and keeps a veil of politeness for mask her disgust. So it wouldn't cut.

Its not likely that she would accept their faith nevermind telling them to develop it as a power. And Big E will never ever accept it. Tolerate it maybe. And keep it confined preferably.
>>
>>6202268
>Some are trying to see if we can get Big E to accept the empowering faith that people are sending his way
That's fucking dumb and really out of character for Pangea.
>>

I’m sure there would be less worship if Big E dose he’s job in a 3 piece suit
>>
>>6202602
It’s an idea that was bounced around, that’s all. I do agree Pangea doesn’t seem to be entertaining that idea, given her disdain for faith in general at the moment.

—Rackham, Lorgar and—

Pangea winced at the names. Rackham she could handle, but with Lorgar? Pangea did not complain, not now at least.

—Magnus.—

Pangea’s stiffened muscles loosened. She let out a breath she did not know she was holding.

—I will depart now.—

There was no reunion with her retinue, after all, she kept in contact with everyone whenever possible. Other than Nazir and Hayward who declined due to frontline obligations, the rest of her retinue confirmed their return. Pangea also kept in frequent contact with Dredd and Thurgood who assisted Arbitrators and patrolled Segmentum Solar. Dredd and Pangea watched the sailors adjust the cogitator and auspex before flight. Dredd remained silent with his arms crossed.

“Worried?” Pangea said.

“Yes.” Dredd said. “I do not desire to meet my wayward primarch, I worry what happened to the legion. They call themselves the Warhosts. They spread the divinity of The Emperor as The Maker and destroyed any religious texts.”

“Ah, that does sound like Rackham. I heard Lorgar does the same. How wonderful.” Pangea said. “At least Magnus will be here to reign them in.”

“What of your retinue?” Dredd said. “We will be departing soon and your XO has yet to arrive.”

“I’m sure he will.” Pangea said.

Pangea didn't like Rackham and Lorgar's zealotry, to the point where she felt actual disgust towards their "backward ideas," but she was the only one who actively tried to engage with Rackham and cover for him when his religion got out of control.
The same thing happened with Lorgar. She considered recolonizing his planet entirely but then decided against it and let them handle their own affairs instead (through our votes, mind you).
I think that, in addition to her role as an Inquisitor and her experience witnessing the worst the galaxy has to offer in the Vault of the Old Night, her understanding that Rackham and Lorgar definitely won't change their core beliefs would make her more open to at least trying to focus their devotion on doing something good.
Remember that the Emperor didn't just order the destruction of Monarchia because of Lorgar's faith - it was because he and his legion took forever to expand the reach of the Imperium.
Imagine if we could convince them that conquering new worlds is the best way to honour the Emperor. We would have a legion whose devotion and aggression rival the Black Templars'.

What we did was more clemency and familial love, and giving them some time to see the Imperial Truth. Which neither did. Attempting to direct them, would get us bogged down in their religious swamp. Working with them is still possible but they would never put down spreading their faiths. At best they might make a compromize, a compromize i am not sure Pangea is willing to even accept since it would include giving up something to their religions.

Like this : they will teach mortal missionaries to spread their faith in conquered worlds instead of themselves, they will make investments in architects and workers to rebuild conquered worlds + also build religious projects on them instead of doing construction on their own, but they will focus on conquering worlds (and the loot/riches taken there can be used for repeat and fuel this process again).

So even if they don't leave cathedrals and temples behind themselves, the worlds they take end up still converted and getting those buildings some decades down the line. Of course it creates the opposite problem : they are fast now but they are now spreading their faiths with countless mortals missionaries through all sectors they conquer, and not just that, they are solidifying it. More slowly than before but its being done all the same.

“I heard Thurgood became a Captain, it’s time I congratulate him personally.”

The astartes in the ship’s training grounds examined their bolters. Power swords gleamed. Chain weapons softly hummed as the engines were adjusted. Every astartes saluted by putting their fist on their heart, Pangea greeted each astartes by name. Their movements were crisper, eager, like a freshly oiled machine brimming with energy.

“Matron.”

“Hail, Matron.”

Amongst the astartes Thurgood’s right pauldron was black with a skull, a symbol of captain. Thurgood passed on orders, gave advice and bantered with his brothers. Only a few bland accessories indicated his rank on his Mark III power armor: A white helmet and a black braided cord across his chest. Her nephews always preferred to be pragmatic.

“Well well well, look who’s no longer a sergeant.” Pangea said.

Thurgood thumped his fist on his chest plate.

“It’s good to see you again, matron.”

“Same here, Captain. Congratulations on your promotion. I thank you for your service and expect great results.”

He lowered his head.

“I will devote myself further for The Imperium.”

“I have no doubts you won’t.”

Pangea returned to her office, as she gathered her parchments and let herself relax to wait until Diani returned with her tea, there was one person she thought about. Hector.

What did she feel about him?

There was a flutter in her heart, while not in love she still held a longing for him. Pangea propped her head on her hand. What was love? Did it hurt? Can love bloom? Fulgrim was married, maybe he would be the right person to ask. Surely he would react favorable compared to her other brothers. Diani entered the office and placed a platter of fresh fruit and a cup of amber colored tea.

“A crown for your thought, my lady?” Diani said.

Diani, she was always there to be her counsel and a friend.

“When did you know your husband was the right one?” Pangea said.

“Tobias? I can’t say, he’s been by my side since I was a child. He was there for me and always
supported me. I’d say it’s natural we got married.” Diani said. “Is this about Hector?”

“What?” Pangea squeaked. “That is preposterous!”

Diani shook her head as the princess spluttered like a broken faucet. Honestly, for a woman who
could slay ten lives in one second, knew the lores of psychic powers, and a commander of a fleet she sure was a child at times. The door slid open, Hector Weserian entered as if fate itself was watching the event unfold.

“Your eminence, Commander Werserian reporting as ordered.”

He now sported a faint stubble and appeared more mature. Not only in appearance but his presence. Hector broke his crisp salute.

“Oh uh uhm,” Pangea cleared her throat. “At ease, commander and welcome back. Congratulations on your promotion by the way. I assume there isn’t much for me to accommodate you with?”

“No, your eminence and thank you. Unless you have something for me?”
Pangea steeled her heart. The tips of her fingers touched as she averted his steely eyes .

“It has been a while so I thought about the retinue gathering for dinner, how about it?”
“Of course. If you will excuse me.”

Hector left. Pangea pinched the inner corners of her eyes.

“You could have just asked him for dinner, my lady.” Diani said.

“But that’d be so weird!” Pangea said.

Diani sighed. She’d prefer cult hunting than this.

After a successful and uneventful warp jump, The Hydra arrived at Segmentum Hattin. There, the flag ships of each legion gathered outside Eun Nam’s planetary auspex and would meet at Photep. Photep’s interior reflected Tizca with its own ivory and gold. No decorations or accessories hung in the ship, everything down to the smallest details were made with function in mind but without sacrificing beauty. Pangea, Hector and Diani were led by the ship’s captain, they waited at the bridge where she was told Magnus would come momentarily.

“Quite the sight.” Pangea said.

“It is a marvelous sight indeed.” Diani said. “Though I do not see Lord Magnus.”

“Perhaps he is—”

“Sister!”

Magnus and Ahriman entered the bridge.

“Magnus!”

Pangea ran over and Magnus knelt to receive the hug. It was good to see her brother again. Pangea pulled from the hug and saw Ahriman saluting.

Pangea opened her arms.

“Well, nephew? Will you not give your aunt a hug after so long?”

Ahriman stood frozen. He first looked up to his primarch, which he got a shrug, most likely sharing a private conversation. Ahriman knelt and allowed himself to be embraced, a new but not an unpleasant emotion welled up. Not joy, contentment? Ahriman shrugged off his thoughts, at the very least he knew he was in good company, a supporter of the scholarly pursuits.

“What do we know so far?" Pangea said. "I read that Rackham faced them on a colony planet and won after a loss, I hope he didn't do anything too... regretful.”

“Come now, trust your brothers.” Magnus said.

“I'll trust them after they stop insulting our Father by abandoning their misguided zealotry.” Pangea spat venomously. “Fools. Both of them.”

Pangea crossed her arms as her jaws clenched in a bitter and jealous disgust. The faint residue of her psychic power glistened but soon settled down. Two heavy footsteps made Pangea turn around. Lorgar and Rackham finally arrived with their own first company captain.

“My kins!” Rackham said with glee.

Lorgar followed silently and away from Rackham. After a brief exchange of greetings, Rackham informed the first battle of the colony planet. Their strategy, weapons, and technology. While they wielded fearsome weapons, the forces of the Star Monarch were no immortal army against the legiones astartes. The worlds of the Star-Monarch were ruled by the princes and princesses, each vying to be the next Star Monarch in a dangerous game of politics.

“You did what?” Pangea said.

Inside Magnus’s study, the children of The Emperor discussed their next move.

“We tried to broker peace by spreading pamphlets of The Maker. They did not take our peace with grace and civility.”

Magnus hid his reaction well but Lorgar appeared offended and dumbfounded, he opened his mouth but closed it. Bitterness. Disbelief. Sourness. Not at the pamphlets.

“This… Maker. You believe our Father is a God that created the universe?” Lorgar said.
>>
“No, he created humanity in the void that is the universe. He is our Maker.” Rackham said excitedly. “From eons ago when humanity began, he—”

“That is not what our Father is, he—”

“Brothers.” Magnus cut off Lorgar. “Let us discuss our scholarly pursuits on a sensible time. Brother, you sent pamphlets about our Father as a God?”

“Yes, but they denied it with violence so my sons and I dispensed punishment for their misdeed,” Rackham said. “We razed their colonies through iron and faith.”

Lorgar nodded approvingly. Pangea held back all she could, her finger tapping on her crossed arms.

“So, I suppose there’s no option to send an emissary to see if they will surrender,” Pangea said.

“There’s no need,” Lorgar said. “We have our answers. They will not open their hearts to us.”

Pangea rolled her eyes.

“Oh yes, decimating their colony after demanding they worship their God is a great opener for diplomatic compliance. Truly, you two are our guiding light in this galaxy.” Pangea said with an acrid deadpan. “Why, I can’t believe they won’t ‘open their hearts’ after what our dear brother did. Shocking.”

Rackham frowned, hurt and shameful.

“I made a mistake, I understand that. No need to push it, sister.” Rackham said.

“We can still send an emissary,” Lorgar said. “Perhaps I or my son can. We can at least try again.”

“I don’t know,” Pangea said. “Magnus?”

“I do not mind if I or my son is selected.” Magnus said.

>“I’m sure they already know about the astartes. Sending a space marine for diplomacy may be seen as a threat. I will contact Eun-Nam’s princess and see if I can speak to her personally.”

Actually now that i remember it should be still Imperial Heralds. Word Bearers is after Monarchia for "show" a change of heart from Lorgar and his legion, and a return to the Imperial Truth (fake)

Seems Lorgar and Rackham are in a good relationship but not one without its edges. Must be for religious difference between Maker and Covenant, even if Lorgar also believes there is only one supreme deity.

>“I’m sure they already know about the astartes. Sending a space marine for diplomacy may be seen as a threat. I will contact Eun-Nam’s princess and see if I can speak to her personally.”

Razing their colonies makes this exceptionally difficult. Even with the Star Monarch domain seemingly being divided, this is the kind of thing that creates unity in their ranks. So diplomacy might fail anyway.

“I’m sure they already know about the astartes. Sending a space marine for diplomacy may be seen as a threat. I will contact Eun-Nam’s princess and see if I can speak to her personally.”

After a brief diplomatic and tense negotiation, Pangea was given a respectful but wary reception by the Eun-Nam’s princess. The soldiers, decked in black shiny armor made of smooth crystals, glared without reservation but some watched in awe of the Pangea’s graceful beauty. The onlookers still booed and shouted insults in their own strange gothic dialect. The planet’s slow turning speed and distance from the sun produced pale-skinned people with faint blue lips, akin to a corpse and a culture of worshipping the moon.

“Go home, sun eater!” A man shouted.

“Death to the sun walkers!” A woman said.

The hives of Eun-Nam were similar to Terra’s spires built from the STC but modified over thousands of years. The blue castle was measured up to a pitiful height that barely scraped the sky and only three miles long, colored in a sickly pale blue that resembled a poor version of Caliban’s intimidating forts. The blue castle was also defended by walls and guns that did not compare to the immensity and intimidating sight of the Imperial Palace.

“This is… quaint,” Diani muttered quietly.

“That’s a word for it,” Pangea said. “I would say it reminds me of Caliban.”

Twelve Albian crusaders split into two matching lines, with Hector as the leader. A blanket of dark clouds dimmed the procession to the castle, and faint streetlights illuminated their path to the princess.

The throne room was small, only able to host a hundred non-augmented humans. The princess sat on a smooth stone throne. White mannequins hung still by chains on the ceilings; their porcelain bodies were cracked and their sharp and silver fingertips glinted by the lumens installed on the floor and walls.

Pangea ignored the message.

The princess was young, no older than ten. A bald man in a rich blue robe stood next to the young princess, he leaned down and whispered. The princess nodded.

“P—Princess Pah—Pangea. Fah—Finally here to beg for mer—mercy?” The princess said with the fury of a squirrel.

“No, I am here as—”

A jolt interrupted her words. The princess, snow skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes, recoiled the same moment Pangea stopped speaking. No words were required. Be it feeling or a psychic connection, they recognized each other as Nephilims. Pangea cleared her throat, gaining back her grace.

“Wise Princess Tae-Nam. I am here as an envoy. I ask as leader to leader, to put aside your resistance and join The Imperium and join humanity to take the galaxy, under enlightenment of logic and science.” Pangea said.

The man whispered to the princess.

“Lies! Y—Your general massacred my people!”

“After an attack on our ship making a diplomatic attempt.” Pangea said. “It was regrettable on both sides. That is why I ask you to join The Imperium to prevent further bloodshed.”

“Is…” Princess Tae-Nam’s shoulders shuddered, she evaded Pangea’s gaze. “Is that a threat?”

“No.” Pangea said. “How about we discuss this at dinner? I humbly invited you to my ship.”

The bald man whispered again.

“No, we do this in my castle.”

At first she'd be asbolutely disgusted, but once she gets to know 99 and realizes 99's not that terrible looking and does not see Emps as a God, she would be cordial and appreciate her efforts.

99? Can't say, she'd treat Pangy like she treats Roboute.

“How about your castle tonight and my ship the next evening?”

“I will consider it, b—but for now you are a guest of The Star Monarchy. We will dine in three hours. I will have your quarters prepared.” Tae-Nam said.

“Of course, your soldiers are also welcomed despite the incident.”

The bald man finally spoke, a voice dripping with false alacrity and a glass smile. The tight skin wrinkled ever so slightly as he talked like a tarp pulled back too far. Tae-Nam sat with her legs together, puffing her chest on a throne too large for her to fill. Credit where it's due, Tae-Nam held her bearing well for a child.

“Thank you for your invitation. We will do so.” Pangea said.

Pangea and her retinue waited at a parlor room drenched in shades of blue, Pangea's sleeveless and form fitting red dress displayed her lean and defined muscles. Hector willed himself to not look, but his unguarded mind made for an easy read. brassment and heat warmed her cheeks as she pretended to not hear a thing despite Hector worrying about the very possibility. Diani smirked, knowing full well the subtle changed in her lady's expressions.

“Captain, our lady looks wonderful in her dress doesn't she? She ought to wear more instead of togas in every formal event.” Diani said.

“I suppose so… We can discuss such matters later.” Hector cleared his throat as his cheeks reddened. ‘Is it wise to accept the invitation?’

Hector switched to High Gothi.
‘It is.’ Pangea replied. ‘It’s clear the child is manipulated by his advisor. I want to give her a chance first. If they are willing to talk they just might be willing to listen.’

The dinner was a plate of green meat, blue vegetables and a mushy red paste spicy enough to sting the tongue. Diani and Hector flanked Pangea at the dinner table while Tae-Name ate at the head of the table with the bald advisor sitting adjacent. The talk did not end with neither compliance or resistance, instead, Tae-Nam requested to speak with Pangea in the throne room alone much to the advisor’s reluctance.
>>
“You know, I was afraid of you at first but when I realized that you are a Nephilim like me, I wasn’t afraid anymore. I didn’t know there was another one like me.” Tae-Nam said.

“I didn’t either. Is your gene similar to your father’s?”

“No…” Tae-Nam said dejectedly. “I don’t look close at all. He told me that by the time he found me everything was already coded. Father thinks I’m made for governing but I don’t want that!”

“What do you like?” Pangea said.

“I… I don’t know. I don’t know what I was made for.”

Pangea and Tae-Nam sat at the steps that led to the throne. Tae-Nam hugged her legs while Pangea let her legs stretch. Tae-Nam pointed at the mannequins.

“See them? Father gave them to me because he thinks that I will activate them and be his conqueror one day.” Tae-Nam said. “I never asked for it and I don’t want to be one. I just want to be left alone. Did you know what you were made for or what you wanted?”

The question had to be answered with a lie, Pangea knew since she was a child what she wanted to do. Glory, battle, but most of all, help her Father and humanity. Her duty as an Inquisitor led to regrettable choices, but she knew the importance of her work. Then there were the droids hanging above.

>“I didn’t, and I still don’t know what I truly want. I guess you and I are the same in that regard.” Pangea lied with a friendly smile. “If you don’t want that burden and want the time to find out, I do know someone that can help on my ship.”
>A lie would be the right answer but not for the child. “I do. I bring lost worlds into The Imperium’s fold and free the people from oppression that religion brings and have the world be part of my father’s plan for humanity’s dominance of the galaxy and the eradication of any xenos that threatens humanity.”

A lie would be the right answer, but not for the child. The connection as tank bred, despite how short they have known each other, seemed as if they were reunited more than discovering one another. In the end, this princess was a child, a child who did not want this responsibility and still did not know what talent she was gifted with. Pangea pitied the child, she never knew the despair and uncertainty of being directionless.

“I do. I bring lost worlds into The Imperium’s fold and free the people from oppression that religion brings and have the world be part of my father’s plan for humanity’s dominance of the galaxy and the eradication of any xenos that threatens humanity.” Pangea said proudly. “This is the only way humanity can thrive.”

“Wow…” Tae-Nam said. “I don’t really get the xeno stuff but you’re like a knight!”

“Something like that.” Pangea laughed awkwardly.

“That’s so cool!”

Tae-Nam admiringly gazed at Pangea, eyes bright and excited. Pangea’s ego preened, and she smiled satisfyingly. Pangea puffed her chest and she tilted her head up in contentment.

“Are you interested in combat?”

Tae-Nam shook her head.

“It sounds scary. I wish I knew what I was made for.” Tae-Nam said.

Pangea placed a gentle hand on Tae-Nam’s shoulder.

“All you can do is keep exploring. I’m sure you’ll find it and I’m certain it will be a wonderful talent.”

“I wish it wasn’t like this.” Tae-Nam said. “Why couldn’t we meet differently?”

“I wish we met under better circumstances too.” Pangea said softly.

Pity stung her heart. Continuing small talk would delay the inevitable: compliance or destruction. Neither sounded good. Tae-Nam grabbed Pangea’s hand, tears flowed as she looked up desperately.

“I can take you with me.” Pangea offered.

“Really?”

“But is that what you really want? You’re leaving your family.”

Tae-Nam shook her head.

“They’re not my family. I’m just a tool to them. I don’t know what I want but I won’t find it here. Please Pangea, can’t you think of something?”

“I got an idea…”

Dredd knew his Matron to be a woman of logic. Her strategies remained pragmatic.Be it infantry tactics, mechanized warfare, Matron always strategized with efficiency in mind. No one in the legion ever doubted her choices or her martial prowess. The latest choice however… confused him. After the Eun-Nam’s princess arrived on her ship, Matron broadcasted the young princess’s abdication and asked for her world to fall under The Imperium.

Of course, this did not work.

Eun-Nam’s chancellor called The Imperium a tyrannical empire, and declared they would never be under The Imperium. Dredd experienced relief, for once, he and his brothers would face something simple. No cults. No xenos. No moral quandaries. A straightforward invasion. The planning however, was not so straightforward.

“We have the highest number of marines. Perhaps my sons and I should be the vanguard.”
Lorgar said.

“Seems we are all suited for frontline assaults.” Rackham said. “With all due respect, Lorgar, I’ve had my legion longer. This should be led by experienced leadership if Magnus’s intelligence is true.”

“Then I should lead the assault if we were to decide leadership by seniority. It was my sons that discovered the defenses and secrets through my sons’ psychic endeavors.” Magnus said.

Dredd and Hector stood behind their Matron while the primarchs talked. Not once did Dredd bother to look or even acknowledge his wayward father. The primarchs continued who would be in charge of the compliance. Lord Magnus turned his head while Lord Lorgar and Rackham spoke of strategies. Pangea and Lord Magnus' visages changed, expressing frustration and worries without exchanging a word. Lord Magnus harrumphed.

“Brothers, we are wasting our time. If all of us cannot agree then perhaps our sister should lead us.”

Rackham and Lorgar exchanged confused gazes.

“What do you suggest, sister?” Rackham said.

Clarification: Assign legion a role
>>
>>6207240
>Vanguard: Rackham
>Infantry: Lorgar
>Support: Magnus, Pangea
Rackham does have the most combat experience here, and his legion is well suited for frontline assaults. Lorgar’s legion has greater numbers, and may be more suited for the grinders that infantry tend to get bogged down in.

Magnus’ thousand sons are too few in number and too valuable to be thrown into a grinder, so we use their psyker powers to gather intel and deal with stuff that regular armor/arty can’t deal with effectively. Pangea’s legion can deploy T for surgical strikes to disable/destroy key targets to enable the other legions, engage in situations where spess marines would be unsuitable for, and work with Magnus/Pangea’s psyker stuff to ensure that they’re exactly where they need to be (like capturing any key political figures that are escaping).

doesn't sound like normal infantry

>—The Star Monarch Sector?—
>Inside Father’s personal war room, a flat surface and circular shaped table projected a sector of the galaxy with seven worlds. The hololith showed the ships engaged in naval combat. Recordings showed weapons far beyond the people wielding them, beam weaponries, auramite like materials, strange beasts that trampled astartes, not to mention the well defended walls in every hive of every planet. A single legion would not be enough to stop them.

beside they had a heavily biologically engineered kid, that is not a normal asset to have.

>>6207240

+1 to this.
Though I have my doubt about Rackham's Legion. While I'm sure they have the combat experience and ability to serve as vanguard, I'm concerned that their zeal might lead to higher collateral damage than needed. Like other anons already said, this place seems quite advanced. I don't want to wreck their industry and library anymore than we have to.
Another thing we could do is maintain constant broadcast by the princess for the enemy to surrender. Most of the enemy might ignore it, but I'm sure there are a few royalist regiments that are loyal to the princess rather than the state. Combining this with The Thousand Sons' psychic assault might lead to a quicker end to the siege.

Rackham, despite his misguided belief, excelled in his craft. He knew where to place his war machines. Land Raiders and tanks bombarded the walls. Half of his sons remained with the heavy vehicles, while the light infantry followed their father.

Guided by Magnus’s Corvidae Cult, they revealed any counter-attack plans and saved many machines. Ahriman guided his brothers flawlessly, knowing first than any other astartes.

The telekinetic barriers glowed from the strikes above. The Cult of Raptor, an expert in telekinesis, deflected the shells. Though they strained, as the attack on the barrier was reflected upon them, the sons of Magnus resisted nobly. The Cult of Pyrae, master of pyrokinetic, not only assisted his brothers in reinforcing the shield but engulfed the enemies in deadly warp flames. The Cult of
Pavoni, master of biomancy, shot forth lightning and fear-inducing feat of boiling the blood of the enemies.

The Sons of Magnus certainly made their mark in this invasion. However, Rackham’s rampage outshone them.

Clad in thick, grey auramite power armor, he wielded a large pump shotgun that spat special explosive shells. The pellets shredded oncoming skirmisher vehicles. For heavy vehicles, Rackham used a simple trench hatchet to cut or pry open the metal casings and then chop or shoot the inside.

A whirlwind of destruction, unbound by civility, Rackham unleashed destruction with his sons savagely, reflecting the brutal trench warfare of Versailles. His sons fought similarly; they rushed into the infantry line after the skirmisher vehicles opened a gap in the defensive lines or after their father laid waste to the defense lines.

Yet, the wall stood.

No shells, warp flames, lightning, or armored assault toppled the wall or the kinetic shield that protected the hive’s border. Pangea and Magnus observed the battle from afar. The strategic command was bare, but enough; they used a small holo projector to show the local maps with maps and small figures to show the changing battle.
>>
“Psykic or Dark Age technology, what do you think?” Pangea said.

“I sense no powerful psyker but the barrier is partly psykic. I am unsure what the barrier’s source is.” Magnus said.

Pangea could not help but smile knowing that Magnus’s sons were shaping the battlefield despite being the lowest amount of astartes. Psykers were the true path for humanity’s ascension after all.

“What of the void war?”

“They are stalling for reinforcement.” Magnus said. “They hold for now.”

“If we can figure out the source, we can deactivate or overload the barrier. They’re holding up well.”

“There’s no need. This will be an easy—”

“Magnus.” Pangea said firmly. “We don’t know how the kinetic field will react. Rackham and Lorgar is depleting the enemy manpower. We can whittle them down. We don’t have to rush this.”

“My method will save more lives.” Magnus said. “Not every battle must be a slow crawl. You worry too much, sister.”

“And you worry too little. Magnus please. Let us progress as a team.”

Magnus patted his sister’s head.

“Very well, Pangea. I will follow your lead.”

A needle plucked at her patience.

>“My nephews and I will teleport into the enemy’s ship and disable their fleet. After that, an orbital bombardment might pierce the shield.”
>“Your idea isn’t bad, we can have our brothers retreat then we can try to overload the kinetic shield.”

“Will you be alright?" Magnus said.

“I've fought in situations worse than this. Don't treat me like a child just because I'm not a primarch." Pangea said sharply.

Magnus turned away from the battle and to his sister.

"Pangea, I do not worry because I doubt you, I worry because you are my sister. No matter how experienced you become, I will always worry about you." Magnus gently patted her head. "I think no less of you, and I never have."

Pangea looked up, then shied from his gaze in shame.

"I... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off so rude."

"Apology accepted," Magnus said. "After this, perhaps we can catch up, I'm sure you have lots to tell me. I'll have your favorites ready. I have altiyn and nabk berries stored when I would meet you again."

Lorgar and Rackham pulled their forces to feign a retreat. The kinetic field pried open, three drop pods pierced through the sky and landed. The ground shook by the impact, the people scattered and the soldiers stuck to a cover and fired. A golden dome absorbed the beam as the door to the drop pod opened with an ominous hiss.

“Forward!” Pangea commanded.

Clad in grey and white accented power armor marched, led by Thurgood. Over the years as Pangea’s astartes, the former second legion adopted a different priority. Adaptability, practicality, and logistics. Bolters roared and muffled the quiet zaps of the Eun-Nam infantry’s beam weapons. Bolts punched through the infantry’s crystal armor. Limbs scattered in splatter of red. Chunks strewn the streets. Blood pooled up. Behind the astartes, Albian Crusaders assisted by pointing out enemies or focusing on heavy weapon units led by Hector.

“The field’s source is the building in the west I can sense it.” Pangea said. “Onward!”

Pangea and her retinue sped through the hive. They broke through the erected crystal barriers and heavy vehicles. Pangea entered the fortified library with a tall observatory tower. She needed to find the source fast.

I'd say both since I can have the narrative go Tau Empire to Farsight Enclave. Tau is pretty interesting though I can't say they got the aesthetic that I like.

Gue’vesa quest sounds interesting. Though given the relatively limited reach of the Tau in the scope of things, it sounds like it will be on a smaller scale than what we’re doing in this quest. 40k Pangea sounds nice too.

Pangea waking up in 40k would be cool, but what about a spin off where Pangea wakes up in WH Fantasy?

Everyone tells her she's crazy and that there's no such thing as an Imperium, yet the demons recognize her. She'd also have to confront several truths that wouldn't be easy for her to accept: that xenos aren't inherently evil since humans are able to successfully befriend and get along with non-humans such as the dwarfs and elves, that having everyone know about chaos rather than keeping it a secret is a valid strategy for fighting the ruinous powers, that religious freedom and the worship of Sigmar has been a positive thing for humanity, etc

Pangea ordered her retinue to defend the area, while searching for the source on her own incase of dangerous psykic element.

The source led to a well ventilated basement of many rooms, brightly lit in a warm golden light moved like the wind. The light touched the old wooden archive shelves, lit every corner and smelled of flowers. A pleasant warmth hugged her body as she walked through the light, a soothing presence that did not have the slimy taint of Chaos. Love, Pangea felt loved by the light's embrace without her mind being persuaded to leave. The source's room was empty, a layer of rune circles were drawn and at the center a metal statue stood, made of smiling faces of men and women.

The light emanating with joy, love, life, the warmth and gentle sweetness flooded from the statue. A ring of bright light coiled around the statue like a serpent, composed of smaller grains of light.

Pangea peered deep into the statue. Within the metal, a dull orange energy wrapped the bundles of souls in a body of shifting sands. The binding force delved into the souls and replayed the happiest moment, generating a perpetual energy of emotion converted to a protected field. Pangea grimaced with cold rage.

Vile sorcery…

The light serpent hissed like an ocean crashing into a cliff as Pangea approached carefully, inch by inch so as to not anger the serpent. Pangea’s psykic bolt was deflected by the serpent. Pangea tried to have her psykic energy weave under the protecting barrier to free the soul. The energy whipped its body and cut her psykic force. The serpent only protected, but never attacked.

“Your eminence, we need the shield down as soon as possible!” Hector said between zapping and bolter fires.

The basement shook as a muffled explosion boomed.

“Soon as possible as in now m’am!” Denog shouted.

They could be cool.

40k, I want to see how she is when its an older Nephelim. She is not a primarch, but some kind of superhuman all the same. It would probably depends on how this quest ends, the Heresy will be different, the Great Crusade is certainly already different right now what with Erebus dying. Beyond that how the Albian Crusaders are going to end up looking a millenia after, or the astartes that serve us. Or what happens with our retinue, since we are the first inquisitor. Will they be heroes in great statues ? Who knows. Maybe she will not be able to accept certain institutions like the Ecclesiarchy

A Gue'vesa quest, would be... interesting. Its not on a galactic scale but can be big anyway. Exploring the greater good, how the mc end up a Gue'vesa, what kind of world it was and what kind of Gue'vesa army they made from it, relations with Tau, or other auxiliaries of the Tau (kroot and vespid for name some).

Pangea weaned through the energy to free the souls. The sifting sands hissed, but with distraction and subtler influences the liberation of the souls were easier. Pangea ignored the vox chats, the use of brute force could cause a psykic backlash that could level the building. A beads of sweat rolled down, the sound of battle and explosions intensified, the vox chat grew louder, more desperate with more sounds of the battle. Yet, Pangea remained focused, five minutes later the lights disappeared like a fog.

“Captain’s hit!”

A cold dread sloshed in her stomach. Pangea sprinted out of the library and raised up a psykic field. Hector laid on the floor as the crusaders formed a body shield. Shrapnel stuck out from the side of his leaking and mangled abdomen. His left hand now lacked a pinkie finger, ring finger, and his middle finger. A combat medic removed the body armor then cut the uniform to apply the biofoam on the wound.

“Is he stable?” Pangea said.

“Yes, your eminence. We will need critical care fast as possible.” The combat medic said calmly.

“Good.”

Pangea held the psykic shield up. Denog and Ontyep however, noticed the cold fury in her eyes.

“Denog, call Enri that the moment the city is taken I want her to take Hector out.”

Denog nodded.

Soon, Eun-Nam’s capital city fell and the rest of the cities scattered in the world surrendered. The ride back to The Hydra and to the medicare was silent. Inside her office, Pangea stared down at the parchments on her table. Diani entered her office with a cup of tea and sliced melons.

“Good work on assisting the captain, Diani. I assume nothing much happened.” Pangea said.

“Yes, my lady.” Diani said.

Diani knew well of the situation, but she also knew Pangea disliked comforting answers for the sake of comfort. By now, she compartmentalized the replies and words needed depending on the situation.

“Did I do the right thing?” Pangea said.

“You have.” Diani said. “If you did overload the shield generator, something worse could have happened.”

“But because of that Hector’s injured…” Pangea rested her head on her interlocked hands propped by her elbows.

“My lady, he is a soldier. He knows the risk. Denog, Ontyep, Henrietta, your nephews and the crusader, everyone knows the risk.” Diani said. “All we can do is hope he will recover. Until then, we must move forward.”

"Thank you, Diani. You always know what to say."

Diani bowed with a proud smile.

"I am your ever servant."

Altiyn and nabk berries tasted like ash. Neither the wine nor the fruit lifted her spirits, only drunker. The special wine was made by Ahriman, his latest attempt in perfecting his craft. Pangea did not sip, appreciated the smell or the heavy yet alluring dark ruby color. Instead, she downed the hand cut glass like cheap mead. Pangea rested her hand on her hand with her elbow on the table. Magnus sat awkwardly, unsure of how to console his sister and wishing that she’d ask grander questions he could easily answer.

“You should ease on the wine, Pangea.” Magnus said. “From what I hear, it sounds like he will make a recovery. So why not celebrate?”

“Before or after Lorgar and Rackham comes in?”

“Pangea…” Magnus chided.

“If they come in and gives me a single word of prayer I swear on the Throne and on our Father’s honor I will fry their ass so much that his sons will feel it.” Pangea said with snarl.

Magnus nudged the bowl of fruits then gently pulled the glass of wine away from her hand.

“Well, let’s not do that.” Magnus said, then messaged Rackham and Lorgar to arrive at a later time.

Pangea, half sober and half drunk, sighed as her head rested on the table in her booster seat to see eye to eye with Magnus.

“I know I’m not supposed to dwell on the what-ifs. But it’s hard not to. I could have moved faster, maybe—”

“You know as well as I do dwelling on such will do no good. Such is our duty.” Magnus said. “Enough worrying, how are the fruits?”

“Delicious.” Pangea said with a forced glee. “I need to visit Tizca one day, and the other homeworld of our brothers.”

“Once humanity is unified, we will have all the time in the world.” Magnus said, smiling. “Though Tizca will be saved for last.”

Pangea pulled back the glass and took another barbaric swig. Magnus glanced at her mind. The alcohol subdued her worry, desperation, and anger. Finally, a strange pink light of affection, not of family or friends, but of a romantic interest.

“Wow Ahriman really knows his craft.” Pangea said. “He’d be rich being a winemaker.”

“I can procure them next time.” Magnus said. “You can take some bottles back if you’d like.”

“I sure will. Hector would love it too.”

Pangea and Magnus continued their celebration, Lorgar and Rackham, and his wife joined later. In Pangea’ drunken vulnerability, Magnus glanced at her mind. The alcohol subdued her worry and desperation, With his brothers’ arrival, dark red anger and irritation clouded her other emotions. Magnus messaged his brothers on forbidden topics. Rackham and Lorgar nodded.

“You sons were instrumental in this siege, Magnus,” Lorgar said. “My sons who also uses psykic abilities can learn from your sons.”

Magnus preened with paternal pride.

“Your sons are more than welcome to learn from my legion. As is yours Rackham.”

“I have few, but I shall send them as well.”

“And you, Rackham, were flurry of fury as the vanguard.” Lorgar said.

Rackham puffed his chest in flowing confidence.

“The wars in Versailles ended often in the trenches, an assault like this was common.” Rackham said.

Hystera sat in silence, pouring a cut of the wine for Rackham whenever empty. No armor or uniform presented Hystera. Instead, she wore a simple light pink dress with a side ponytail. Pangea read the abhumans of Versaillies, the quinlocks, who primarily ate meat despite being omnivorous eaters. Though they can eat humans, it is a taboo among the quinlocks and only because it is a taboo.

“Colchis was too large for such wars, the travel between battles took longer than the battle itself.”

Rackham and Magnus laughed. A war for faith, the very notion not only disgusted her but also disappointed her. Harkening back to the dark ages by a primarch… Pangea withheld her barbs. This was a time of celebration.

“Hystera. Did you—” Pangea lurched with a hiccup. “Observe the battles? Do you have thoughts about them?”

Hystera looked up to Rackham, after a nod of approval from her husband, Hystera nodded. The white pair of horns shined from the light above as did her silky black hair. For a religious cannibal, her sister-in-law was dressed like a civilized citizen. She wore a simple one piece dress and a strange black collar. Her braided hair rested on her shoulder.

“I did briefly I— I mean…” Hystera looked down at her hands, not once meeting Pangea by her eyes. “I watched briefly after I prayed for my husband’s safe return. I even re-watched some footages from the cogitator’s battle scans.”

“Uh huh…” Pangea said, knowing full well of the sad attempt at deceit. “Do you have any hobbies or anything when you’re not assisting? Maybe books?”

“I love books.” Hystera said, “they’re a gate to whole new world. I have a library that Rahrah made for me!”

A snicker escaped from Magnus and Lorgar chuckled in an endeared way. Rackham gently placed his hand on Hystera's shoulder. A deep blush painted her pale skin as she covered her face with her hands.

“Hystera, my love, how about you grab another bottle for us while the men discuss some business?” Rackham said.

“Of course, I’ll get them now.”

The talks continued, from the light teasing from Magnus to their legion, Pangea let her brothers talk as she appreciated the taste of wine more. After the wines and talks were exhausted, Pangea walked out with a light buzz and a pleasant mood. At the docking gate that connected the ships, Hystera approached.

“Excuse me, your eminence…” Hystera said.

“Yes?”

“I… I know my husband is not the ideal brother. But I just wanted to thank you for still being cordial with him. He truly does see you as family, it would devastate him if you also turned your back on him.”

“Hystera, why do you let your husband tell you what to do?”

“Well…” Hystera intertwined her fingers together. “I’m not the sharpest bayonet in the trench, your eminence. Rackham knows better than I do, so I listen to him.”

“And you’re…” Pangea withheld her question, this was nother business. “You said something about my brother turning his back on him?”

“It was awful… Lord Dorn and Rackham worked well until they disagreed on preserving this beautiful library.” Hystera looked down at her feet, not daring to look up once. “Rackham wanted it preserved for cultural significance but Lord Dorn disagreed. He initiated a bombardment then left as soon as the world was under compliance.”

Without the full story, she still knew the library’s preservation meant more cost of lives than simply destroying the library. To Pangea, cultural significance was the last thing she considered during a mission unless the subject of preservation was technology, and only if they were STCs. There was no point in discussing these subjects to someone who did not understand war.

“Surely you won’t do the same, right your eminence?”

“Hystera… I try to love my brothers, Rackham included. But you must know he is not following the Imperial Truth.”

“I… I know that. Lord Dorn said as much.” Hystera said. “He called him the very antithesis of The Imperium’s goal. It hurts him, it hurts him a lot. But I don’t know what it will take to have him stop. He’s going to be alone if he continues it.”

Tears rolled from her pale cheeks and poured as she wiped them away. Hot droplets of tears fell to the cold, hard floor.

“Rackham really tries, he was already devastated when his sons left him, and now his own brother abandoned him," Hystera said between sobs. "Please, your eminence, can’t you do something?”

>“But you have to see why Rogal would say that. Surely, you understand as well. Can’t you try convincing him?”

“What do you think it will take for Rackham to stop his worship of Father? I can try to convince him before he is ostracized.”

“I… I don’t know. He’s so steadfast that perhaps The Emperor himself might do it.”

“I’ll try to see if Father can do so, thank you Hystera.”

She wiped her eyes.

“No, thank you for caring, your eminence. Please don’t leave him, he’d be so devastated. Best of luck to the next conquest!”

Pangea nodded politely, despite being a abhuman Hystera was not as bad as she thought.

Unlike the packed city of Eun-Nam, Sae-Nam was a mountainous planet much like Colchis in size and diverse biomes. The largest fortress did not have an advanced or sorcery way of defense, the natural life and environment already defended against all invaders. Pangea, Rackham, Magnus, and Lorgar gathered in Magnus’s war room. The panopticon of ivory and gold we don’t projected their next target in a shimmering purple light. The second in command astartes were beside them.

“So, drop pods are the only option.” Rackham said.

“If we can get the naval force occupied, we can. The other planets are now moving in to defend Sae-Nam.” Magnus said.

“Then we occupy them.” Pangea said. “Tae-Nam told me the fortress has tunnels they will use and the size of the fortress is also vast. She drew me the map of the tunnels.”

Pangea spread open the wide parchment in the air with her telekinesis. A three foot wide parchment unfurled.

“A child drew this?” Magnus said.

“She’s… special.” Pangea said. “Her intel can be trusted.”

“Very well.” Magnus said. “Who will invade the fortress and who will remain on the ships?”

“The terrain is similar to my sons and I.” Lorgar said.

“Yes, but my sons are experienced in tunnel fighting from Versaille’s trenches.” Rackham said. “It should be us.”

Pangea shook her head, this time she would stay out of the conversation. After much deliberation Lorgar and Rackham would be the assault team.
