>QM QuestionNot particularly, no. I run what I want to run and it has worked out well enough for me. I don't think trend chasing is worthwhile here considering the smaller playerbase. Maybe if we were talking about akun or RR, maybe, but I don't see the point.I think trend chasing would only matter in a context where you'd make money off it, and there's like one dude on here who makes any money off of it. He only makes $13.85 a month.>Player QuestionIt's about the characters for me. The setting is important, yes, but interesting character dynamics are always going to be easier for me to get invested in. Dark Quest is an example of an active quest that I really like the characters of.>BLUETruly, it is the most fitting outcome that the BLUE MONKEY QTG gets hit with an accidental smear of blue.
>QM QuestionNo, I prefer to sit in my own corner and run the quest in a way i see fit, what is 'trendy' or 'popular' doesn't concern me.>Player QuestionAn ideal quest has a good balance of all, of course I am content with what most quest I play seem to offer, though I do like it if the world/setting feels rich and colourful.>General QuestionI don't know, I've never participated in one, though if I had to nominate someone I suppose it would be one of the Aldershorsts or Celairgalvorn.>>6364991>>6364992The sultan is dead, presumed poisoned by foreign elements, now you must choose who will get the blame.>>6364974>>6364975The crownprince of Greifswald has come to the lands his father had conquered so painstakingly five years ago.

Do you make active efforts to tailor your output to what is "popular," or do you just do your own thing?I'm sort of academically interested in /qst/ trends, but in the end I can only run what I'm excited to run and enjoy running. Why else bother? As Handler said, we do it for free.>What do you look for an appreciate most in a quest: quality of prose/artwork, an appealing setting or world, an interesting plothook, or is it all about the waifus characters for you? It's usually the setting or premise that hooks me, the characters that keep me, and the rest can be whatever as long as they're not so bad they interfere with me enjoying what I'm there for.>Do you think /qst/ has enough activity, and has had enough good candidates, for anotehr king/queen tourney this year? >>6365137>QM Question:Nope. Write what you enjoy, you'll last longer that way.>Player:Characters and writing, mostly. Art can be a nice strawberry on top of the cake, but if the quest isn't enjoyable to read then the art ain't gonna salvage it.>General:It could work, but /qst/ gets alarmingly butthurt whenever we try to run something fun like that. I was brewing up ideas for a kind of '/qst/io Kart' Tourney thing, but it's always tricky balancing mechanics for those kinds of events. I figure we could take a page from King/Queen of /v/ with a few modifications. Short answer: I've thought about it in the past--will I run one? Hard to say!>Lurker:I try to try out a new quest every week just to keep things fresh--giving them a vote only takes a moment, so I say go for it!>>6361939>>6361939>>6361939By the way, are YOU a fan of fantasy? >>6365137>QM Question:>Do you worry much about board preferences and tastes when coming up with or running a quest? Do you make active efforts to tailor your output to what is "popular," or do you just do your own thing?Quest threads last for like three months now. It'd better be a long trend or fad to be worth it on its own, and for the time investment alone, it's best for it to be something with not only staying power but a personal attachment to the concept.>Player Question:>What do you look for an appreciate most in a quest: quality of prose/artwork, an appealing setting or world, an interesting plothook, or is it all about the waifus characters for you?The setting and world and its movement are what matter most to me, the ability of characters to move through the plot, or interact with each other, though admittedly very few settings actually appeal to my narrow interests range. >General Question:>Do you think /qst/ has enough activity, and has had enough good candidates, for another king/queen tourney this year? Who would you nominate? There's always enough if you cast the net wide enough. I don't know if the support needed to widen that net is readily available though, at bare minimum the qms have to be willing to participate in the rounds themselves.>>6365203>last time we did it we had really old ones like Ruby Quest get nominated anyway. Definitely an indefinite moratorium on this sort of thing. I shouldn't even have to explain how utterly ridiculous it is. This board is already limping badly enough without the new blood having to compete with stuff that never even touched this place.>Lurker Question:>Why not at least +1 or comment on the updates so the QM knows someone is appreciating their work?I never +1 because it's not something I appreciate myself. I know sometimes people feel like they don't really have much to add, but whenever a vote is cast like that it's really hard to know how they even feel about the choice, if anything.

>>6365251>>6365251>>6365251Legend of Zuzo is rolling again! Offer your prayers to the Spirit Stone... After-Bloom update coming later tonight, maybe tomorrow. >>6365137>QM question I do a bit, definitely. The way I launched After-Bloom was directly influenced by answers to questions I asked in the previous /qtg/, after having folded my Changeling quest due to low player engagement that made it feel like more of a chore to take care of than a game to play. A big part of my enjoyment as a QM comes from getting to describe scenes and characters and explore ideas I have, and I have a LOT of ideas - but another huge part of it is engagement from my players. Speculation, discussion, banter, just shooting the shit a little here and there, stuff like that. I really like the social aspect of these games, it'd be why I prefer this format to just penning fanfiction or writing a novel. I've already worked professionally as a writer, and don't have anything to prove there. But if I have only one or two people being entertained by what I am doing here, and I am only getting the minimal entertainment of something that low-key, I feel an urge to move towards one of my (many) other ideas to perhaps entertain a higher number of people, and generate more engagement and entertainment for myself. >Player questionI don't care about art at all for this stuff, I mean if it's good then that rules, but I would play a quest with only text. I don't care too much about game mechanics either. Good prose and good FORMATTING matter a lot, though. I won't name names, but some quests here are challenging for me because the writing is too densely formatted, and the grammar/diction is harder for me to follow or get into. I care a lot about the quality of characters and narratives also, stuff with meaning, characters with depth, I just won't bother if I can't find some real meaning somewhere. >General I'm not sure what that truly entails, but I don't see why someone wouldn't try.
>>6365241>Will we save Hyrule? Find out never! We're getting there(:
>>6365137>QM Question (continued) I wanna add to my answer above that I wouldn't try to confirm to genre or theme preferences, or certain proclivities like the frequent fixation with waifus. I am glad to be running a fantasy adventure quest, I am enjoying it a lot, but my heart is always going to be more with horror, Southern gothic, and mystery, which I usually dress up with survival/post-apoc, cyberpunk, or some other elements to keep it feeling fresh. I think those things on the whole are less popular around here. I also want to add that I am experimenting a lot with mechanics, sequencing, and puzzles as I run LoZ, and see what can gel with a format that hinges on democratic engagement, slow pace, written updates. When I run into a wall, and it seems that a way of doing something isn't fun for me and the players, or even is just detracting from the story we are trying to tell, I shelve it and wait for the next opportunity to try something. My other quest, on the other hand, is relying on the tried and true 1d100 BO3, which I've learned to use in the two other quests I have run. I doubt I will do any tinkering there because I want it to be more narrative focused.

>>6365266>formatting challenges>I'm not sure what that truly entails, but I don't see why someone wouldn't try.In 2021 and 2024, people here ran some board events where QMs and players got together to vote/roll/argue about who should be /qst/'s top waifu or husbando or king/queen when I did it, because I wanted characters that were cool for non-romance reasons to be able to join in, too>>6365241Continuous and YayW are good shouts. Sloucho's Legend of Zelda quest is a VERY good idea to check out if you're missing The Fall of Hyrule. Umbral Tower even stars a lone Sheikah-tribe guy as its protag, sort of like where Matthias ended up before we switched perspective to the Hylian royal family.>>6365282>>6365289Post-Apoc has a pretty big base here, I think. I see popular quests in that sort of sphere crop up and stick around fairly often. I REALLY like 'Old West' and horror quests myself, so if you do one of those, expect me to join in.If you're looking for stuff in that vein to check out, One Life (>>6364407) could use more players, and it's such a slow one to update right now that catching up is a lot less daunting than the thread-count makes it seem.

I've been following Silver Knight avidly.I don't think I have the time to spare for going back to my older magical girl quest. As I said, there's a lot of background things happening while Haruka goes off doing her own things. The world is made more dynamic and much more unexpected but it also is far more work.
>>6365549
>QM Question Generally not, but I do somewhat take into consideration how fun or feasible something would be in the format. I love mysteries, but I couldn't think of a good, satisfying way to make a whodunnit style quest fun without getting boring or repetitive. I also made the executive decision to drop Escape the Maw since it wasn't getting all that many votes and I was already stretched pretty thin running Olympus.>Player question Depends on the quest. Each one inhabits an entirely different genre with a different set of draws and appeals. If I'm readinf Versequest or Downerquest (come back story please) I'd be most taken by the complex character work and really impressive depictions of mental unwellness. If I'm reading Drowned, I'm taken by the prose and dialogue, and if I'm reading Solstice, I can't help but admire the absolutely insane 3d animation work the QM does. That said, generally across my various works under various names, people tend to get a lot more excited about ky writing than my art. Could just be because I'm more skilled at writing, but my intuition is that that's just the general preference of the board.>General QuestionYeah, I think there's tons of candidates. My girl Atë got eliminated pretty early last time, so if they did it again maybe enough people will be attracted to danger to win this time
>>6365600The tags got switched with the description on the archive for your last thread of Olympus incarnation quest.
>>6365137>QM Question:>Do you worry much about board preferences and tastes when coming up with or running a quest? Do you make active efforts to tailor your output to what is "popular," or do you just do your own thing? My own thing. If I like writing it, it's fine. The audience is negligible here anyways. On QST you either run a fandom quest, write smut or get no votes. I don't like writing either, so I resign myself to the drought.>Player Question:What do you look for an appreciate most in a quest: quality of prose/artwork, an appealing setting or world, an interesting plothook, or is it all about the waifus characters for you?I like cool characters. I like a cool premise. But most of all, I want a QM who can shape it all into a good visual style. JerkcityQM take me back...>General Question:Do you think /qst/ has enough activity, and has had enough good candidates, for anotehr king/queen tourney this year? Who would you nominate? No, and no thanks.>Lurker Question:Why not at least +1 or comment on the updates so the QM knows someone is appreciating their work?+1's are atrocious and infest every quest I see. At least comment and give your own insights if you agree with someone, you sloth.

>>6365137>QMQNot really, I just quest when I get a good idea. And boy have I stockpiled some. Including an idea about playing as the assassins/bounty hunters/captors of a high value target in a cyberpunkish setting, and another about first contacts.>PQAs long as it ticks two of any of them, I'll read em>GQProbably? I haven't run a new quest since then so I'd probably pass on nominating, unless others wanna nominate my characters. If that's possible, I'll nominate Swordboy and Khyber.
>>6365836Drowned Quest is a short-lived quest that ran from January through April 2019. It followed a guy who drowned in the post-post-apocalyptic ocean, then woke up on the seafloor with glass lungs and a copy of himself in his head. He then went through a string of harrowing, mostly improvised adventures before the whole thing got dropped unceremoniously because it kind of sucked.Maybe you're thinking of its successor, Drowned Quest Redux?
>>6365848QRD on Drowned Redux?
>>6365855Drowned Quest Redux is a finished, extremely long quest that ran from September 2019 through November 2025, broken up by a handful of short hiatuses here and there. It followed the many adventures of Charlotte Fawkins, an obnoxious and delusional young noblewoman, as she attempted to use a magic family heirloom to escape from surreal underwater purgatory and instead went on 500 sidequests, explored a bunch of mind dungeons, unraveled a massive conspiracy, and saved the world. She was aided by Richard, the evil talking snake in her brain; her retainer Gil Wallace, a self-loathing man made of 400 beetles; and like 25 other freaks of varying levels of importance, most of whom start off the quest hating her. There's a lot of talking and weird stuff happens constantly. You can read the archive here: https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=drowned%20quest%20reduxOr, if the size of the archive is a little too daunting, you can read the repost here, with chapters (1 chapter = ~2-3 updates) posted daily: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/95822/drowned-quest-surreal-underwater-misadventures

Do you make active efforts to tailor your output to what is "popular," or do you just do your own thing? Not really. >>6365137>>Player Question:The following are my priorities as a player in descending order of importance:>Setting>Premise>Characters>ProseThis may sound shallow, but I'm more than likely going to overlook your quest if it's not in a setting I'm not only familiar with, but find appealing. For example, I know what Touhou is, but I would never play in a Touhou quest simply because I don't find it that appealing as a setting. In that regard, you'd have a higher chance of reeling me in with an entirely new setting. However, in my experience, my list of priorities gets completely reversed as time goes on and I keep reading a quest. While I won't say this is universal among other players and readers, I know I'm not the only one this applies to. If the characters we're interacting with aren't that interesting and the actual writing is flat and grammatically abhorrent, I find it much harder to keep up with a quest even if it does have a good setting and premise.>Do you think /qst/ has enough activity, and has had enough good candidates, for another king/queen tourney this year? Who would you nominate?I think there's enough activity and good enough candidates, yeah.I would nominate Chilli, Son of Karn, first Saiyan Archmage, former Reaper of Jergal, loving husband, and father of 2 (and counting) from Saiyan Conqueror Quest. People seemed to like his older sister and father well enough last year, and I think Chilli has more than distinguished himself from them in terms of history, personality, and ability enough to be a novel candidate for King.As for my Queen nomination, I'd nominate The Lady in Red, from Gotham City Beat Cop quest. She does a lot for her sons, even if she can never truly interact with most of them. Also the whole flapper girl aesthetic in tandem with her unknowable metaphysical entity gimmick is fairly interesting.

Hello! I'm... still alive, technically! So: I've been quiet on Pokepocalypse, mainly because my luck is still legendarily abysmal, but I do still plan on bringing it back this month. I'm considering bringing it back this weekend (possibly earlier; I've got a light amount of work this week and only one exam the next), but I'm split between jumping right back into Pokepocalypse and doing a one-shot first.I know that's maybe a bit blasphemous, and I'm aware of the temptations some QMs get to ditch their long-running quests for endless one-shots instead, but I have to admit that I think it might do me some good. I've written basically nothing but Pokepocalypse for nearly a year and a half now (almost straight, if we're including background work), and I think it's giving me a bit of tunnel vision. I feel like I'm starting to flanderize my cast, Steele especially, and it's messing up my priorities something fierce. My thinking is that, with a one-shot, I'll get some practice QMing while simultaneously stretching my creative muscles in a way that doesn't entail affecting the main quest. It'll also make for a change of scenery, which I've been missing more than I'd like to admit (as much as I enjoy plumbing the depths of history for cool factoids about the 1880s, it's somewhat irritating to have to constantly confirm whether any given modern comfort exists by 1884), and possibly help attract new players to Pokepocalypse by detaching my writing from an IP that's garnered something of a reputation as of late. Therefore, I am here to ask /qtg/ for opinions! Very important opinions. Opinions I shall coagulate into some kind of answer by, hopefully, this Friday. If I were to return to questing this weekend, and do it through an unrelated oneshot, would you prefer:>Something entirely original, detached from any historical context or commercial property, even if only for one thread>Another big IP(of the options I'm considering, please choose from either:>Digimonor>Marvel comics, seventh cosmos)If you just want Pokepocalypse, would you prefer:>A straightforward return to Pokepocalypse, no strings attachedor>A oneshot set within Pokepocalypse's wider universe, detached from Walter but still within his world?I'll elaborate if poked and probably tally up the results of this in ~72 hours. If nothing appears this weekend, expect it the next. I'm serious about sticking around.Pic unrelated, I just like this bear's optimism.
>>6366526I have no idea who you are, but if you're an experienced QM I'd probably be most interested in a Marvel oneshot.
>>6365137>QM Question:>board preferences and tasteOh, definitely! Part of it is just that I seem to take any excuse to worry, part of it is also just me being new here. It doesn't feel like I am, since I've lurked this place for years now and posted for almost half as long, but I'm honestly still wet behind the ears and I never really forget that. I sometimes wonder if I ever will.>active effort to tailor my questAbsolutely not, I'm too stubborn a bitch to bother. I just do my own thing and end up comically embarrassed when someone confesses to liking it. I'm pretty sure I'd have thrown in a few cute waifus by now if I were trying to pander, but alas. The closest my quest has is a very affectionate sheep.>Player Question:Ugh, I wish I could be more definitive about this. I haven't read another quest in months, unfortunately. Life just hit me like a brick and I completely fell off of even my favorites from a few months back. From what I remember, in order of importance:>Interesting plothook>Good characterization>Quality of prose>Appealing setting/worldis somewhat how my priorities went. I'm very picky, so I probably wouldn't read any quest that didn't have at least two of these attributes. It's also important that the mechanics of the quest aren't convoluted/are easy to pick up and understand, because I generally do not want to devote a huge amount of time to learning a system no matter the quality of a thread. It's a huge reason why I stay away from all civ threads and most game-focused threads, and part of why I tend to keep my one quest (and likely any future ones) rather mechanics-light.Waifu/husbando importance is negative. I want to care for the characters, not imagine myself fucking them. If waifu qualities overlap with sympathetic qualities, then so be it. I'm pretty sure Arty was meant mostly as a waifu, but I found myself caring for her as a character so it didn't matter.>General Question:>has enough activityGod, I hope so. I'm hesitant to say whether it does or does not, because I haven't kept up with it for around a month now, but last I saw it really wasn't doing too well. Any tourneys that went up would probably last a week minimum with how quiet the board seems to be.>has enough good candidatesAnother thing I can't comment on, but if our cutoff date is "from the last tourney" instead of "from the last year" then I'd say so yeah.>Who would you nominate?I honestly don't know the criteria. If we were talking favorite characters, I suppose it'd be blasé to nominate Elliot Hallaster given his participation in the last one... but I'll do it anyways, because he got snubbed and his quest still technically ran after it. Marnie from the Tower is another one I'd mention, and I remember liking the egg girl from Hatch That Egg while it was still running. (I'm not sure if I just don't remember her name, or if I didn't get far enough into the quest to learn it.)
Ahem. If I shall interject, fellow board members... I think a second waifu tourney would not have anywhere near the same impact as the 1st one.Think about it. What has changed since then? There are only so many quests that occupy a spot in the collective psyche of our little community, and an even smaller number of characters who we actually, unironically, consider waifuable. So my proposal is this: if there is another tourney, it should have actual stakes. A reward for the victor! Everyone on board MUST draw fanart of the winner waifu, regardless of their drawing skills or how much they like the winning character herself. Now THAT is some real incentive to participate!
>>6366538You know it's gonna be the exact same characters with...what, one or two additions? How many popular female characters have been created since the tourney?
>>6366543It's not like there aren't more popular female characters among the quests that competed last year.
>>6366538We need a "dumbest character" contest. Which character either makes the least sense, or eats the most rocks. As dumb as possible without veering into actual mental retardation.
>>6366526Medabots, someone has to do it at one point.Digimon. I'll need it since The Tower is ending and I want to see what this board can cook. You could make it an spin off of The Tower. If you want to run capeshit, make an original setting. If you're epic, Medabots or Tremors.
>>6366538Someone should make a one shot crossover quest with the top five girls of the tournament.
>>6366544There were other characters yes but all popular characters have already participated. This might not be a problem in other boards where they've got thousands of characters with dozens of new ones every year, but here, it'd just be a re-do of the most popular quests. Unless you eliminate all the girls that participated last year, which obviously people wouldn't want, it'll end up the exact same.
How many threads does a character need under their belt to even be a fair consideration for the tourney? I've only got one quest on its second thread, but I have been running 1-2 quests consistently for like... Four months? I think? Idunno if I personally feel like anyone in LoZ is fleshed out enough to 'compete'. I think Roy from After-Bloom could end up really special, and I think Percy and Vincent could have gone to some really interesting places in my Changeling quest, but they def didn't get there. Is the tourney for waifus only, or were there other (or could there be other) categories? Oshi might be able to hold his own in a competition reserved for animal companions, for example. If we had a tournament category for good or bad luck (based on die rolls), I actually think Thomas from Ratpocalypse could carry the contest for worst luck - the number of consecutive single digit rolls across the climax was unlike anything I have ever seen anywhere.
>>6366548I was honestly considering some smaller monster-catching franchises (namely Fossil Fighters or MH Stories), but they generally do not have enough to work with. I'm unfamiliar with Medabots completely, so I doubt running a quest based around it would go very well. It might also have a similar problem of not really having enough material. The only reason I'm even able to run a Pokémon quest is because of extended media + the odd setting keeping a lot of the less coherent aspects out of sight and mind.As for capeshit: an original setting would probably need more than one thread to work, but I'll consider it regardless. (What exactly is Tremors? I've never heard of it, and search engines are being obtuse about specifics. Just bringing up geological phenomena and medical symptoms.)
>>6366550yeah, pretty much this, unless all previous participants arent allowed to enter, then none of the new ones will have a chance
>>6366558>What exactly is Tremors?Pic related, a masterclass in writing creature features and thrillers. Ignore literally everything that came after it, you can just watch the first one.
>>6366548I too am in favor of a TREMORS quest>>6366553It's a moot point until someone actually decides to run a tourney, but if I recall correctly some of the past ideas folks agreed on were that the candidates should be from a relatively-recent quest and shouldn't be any of the previous winners. Again, doesn't matter too much until someone actually puts it together.>>6366538>>6366549>Fanart>CrossoverThese are kinda cute ideas, yea! Even the losers and runner-ups from the previous tourneys got some good fanart, so I'd say this would be a positive way to spin it. The only hiccup is that not every QM/contestant might feel confident in their artistry skills. I'm sure we could all think up something creative, though!
>>6366563Hey the second one was still okay. Not great, but it had some fun moments. The first really is the best though.
>>6366572I work under the premise that everybody's time is limited, doubly so for leisurely pursuits. To that end, if I'm going to make any recommendations for media, it's only going to be the good shit if I can help it.
>>6366564Ok, so since this is just bouncing around, what if I proposed categories: >Top waifus>Top husbando >Biggest bastard >Biggest sweetie >Dumbest dumbo >Best luck >Worst luck Spent two weeks gathering noms for each category (allowing characters from any thread that was active in 2025 for at least 200 posts), set up brackets (cap each category at 12 noms, did a vote every 24 hours (should be easy? Because no 'update' is being written, it's just the vote being announced and tallied). I could squeeze that in probably, and I would be willing to toss some cash in for commissioning an art of certain winners? How do anons feel about this? Would anyone be willing to help me?
>>6366582Categories aren't bad, but I don't know about those in particular>Biggest bastardYeah sure, that's fine>Biggest sweetieThis feels like a category that's way too specific to matter.>Dumbest dumboSee above>Best luck, Worst LuckWhat does this even mean?
>>6366579Fair enough man.
>>6366586>Sweetie being too specific Idunno, it seems to me a minority of characters in quests are Really Nice and Kind, and idrc if it is just a quick tournament before like 6 or even 4 characters. I am also including NPC's in this, ftr, not just MC's. I am not sure I even know what you mean by 'too specific to matter', none of this matters, yaknow? >Dumbo I mean, another anon proposed that one first and I like the idea. Courier Six from No Gods No Masters would be someone I nominate for Dumdum award lol. >What does best/worst luck mean? To me this seems like the easiest and most obvious to quantify objectively - which character tends to have really bad luck, versus which tends to have good luck, measured by their literal dice rolls. I have seen quests where the MC racked up a string of successes and critsz and ones where they fumble and fail (forwards and backwards) with consecutive crit fails and low rolls. It'd be cool to get together and figure out who has the worst run of it, and best, in that regard. I am sure there are quests I don't play in that would surprise me with their dice, yaknow?
>>6366594>Aizen from improvAizen quest with absolutely bonkers good luck>Nikandros from Trojan War quest with his sentient (and malicious) dumpster fire bad luck
>>6366594By 'too specific' I mean that it seems like it would just kinda fall into the waifu bracket and not really have anyone in specific for it, unless it's basically just an "this is where you vote for all the cute children and animals" thing.>To me this seems like the easiest and most obvious to quantify objectively Well, I guess if this is literally just an "go and count your quest rolls" I suppose it's interesting enough, though it seems to me like just generally making it a "luck" thing regardless of how they roll would allow for more characters to appear who are fortunate or unfortunate in the story.Ultimately, though, if everyone else is fine with it, it doesn't really matter.
>>6366558Between FF and MHH, I'd go with MHS. Wider appeal. There's also World of Final Fantasy and Megaten. But Megaten is quite similar to Digimon.I'm just throwing ideas.>>6366563I'd loved the second movie when I was a kid. Because dinosaurs.
>>6366600>generally making it a "luck" thing regardless of how they roll would allow for more characters to appear who are fortunate or unfortunate in the story.I don't see why not, at the end of the day people would be voting and could choose for themselves how they weigh actual dice failures with adverse effects. Some QM's, after all, aren't always very generous with big/crit successes, and others are creative about failures in order to keep the narrative on track or because they are running a lighter story. I'd burn that bridge when I crossed it. And yeah, I think if we have a category for characters that are Nasty Evil Bastard Fucks we should deliberate on who is Wholesome Pure And Kind - and I think plenty of the 'waifus' here are actually hostile or malicious, and this would make space for characters like kids/animals/old people/etc that aren't lusted after, exactly, but are still really liked.
>>6366603I guess I will tack on: I imagine casting a wider net both by category and entry, you could get more participation since people seem worried about it being a rote repeat, and I imagine part of the benefit of this tourney is that it gets players to go back and read quests (or at least cited posts in them) they otherwise might not, for context as they vote, maybe broadening a horizon here or there and generating more engagement for different QM's.
>>6366603>>6366606Well, if someone's willing to run it, it's up to them. And I definitely like the idea categories more than "challenges", since "Queen/Ms." tournies were always popularity challenges.
>>6366606I will say it's sensible to have differing categories specifically for that reason. Not all characters are applicable for all contests. Sometimes a character is really well written, but they are not a character anyone actually likes because of it. So they would never win a popularity contest, but they very well may win a "I want to stab this person in the heart eighteen times" competition. Some characters are just goofy little whatsits that are fun but not really engaging enough to win a contest against characters written by seasoned writers, but they might win a "I want to protect it's smile" competition. To dispense of the hyperbole and melodrama, variety of categories allows for more thoughtful entries.
>>6366609So the deal is, I'm a mobilefag phone poster, because my job keeps me on my feet most of the time. But I have space/time to think/write/read when I am not actively busy on a call with caseworkers/orgs or doing crisis de-escalation. With that said, I would be willing to host the thread and tally votes, but would want to deputize a tripfag (or two) to handle bare bones graphics or take over in a pinch, bearing in mind I am already running two quests. So I am definitely looking for feedback as much as I am general interest. The tourney idea seems to have been kicked around since I rocked up months ago, but I appreciate no one wanting to spend very much time or energy on it when those things are at a premium these days.
>>6366538I wont win because I don't same fag its that simple. Once again, the most autistic and deplorable person will get what he wants
You know, rather than a queen or King, why not do a "Best Easily Killed Enemy" Contest, to have a list of the so easily forgotten early quest mooks that got one tapped to introduce combat mechanics OR bosses that had the bad luck of being on the losing end of a lucky roll streak. And for the other side, have "Biggest pain in the ass" contest, for annoying NPCs or Antagonists that just would not die or who drove the conflict for most of the threadsI think that'd be fun.

I think it helps to expand the pool.>>6366550That said, wanting to avoid just rehashing the last tourney is also why I barred characters from the prior tournament when I ran mine.>>6366553>>6366582I don't think there's any hard and fast rule about eligibility criteria, since we've only even had two tournaments and the tourney-runners (me included) kind of made it up as we went. For mine, I'd said that a quest should have had at least three threads, or have completed (so one-shots were eligible as long as they had a proper ending). I just didn't want it clogged by quests that were flashes in the pan. Nowadays, threads last a lot longer, though, so your 200-post criteria makes sense, too. I also really like your cateories, and I had personally been toying with the idea of others like "Most likely to [X]", "Scariest", "Cutest", "Sexiest", "Most Stylish", "Smelliest", "Strongest", stuff like that. Just to give runners up a few amusing titles under their belt and encourage participation and recognition more broadly!>How do anons feel about this? Would anyone be willing to help me?All that is to say I'd certainly be willing to throw in some dosh and lend a hand, insofar as scheduling allows.
>>6366742As a participating QM in your tourney, it was a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend/engage with the same rules, no previous entrants allowed and maybe different categories. Would definitely be interesting to write my characters' interactions with some of /qst/s denizens again. And I offer up for the nomination of "Greatest GILF" Meloka, Karn's five foot tall (mostly calmed down) yandere wife and one of the most dangerous fighters in the entire quest.
>>6366538>1 post by this IDEh, I'm kind of braindead right now so I'll bite. You'd need to put some effort forth to make sure we don't get ample samefaggotry and a new and fresh rotation of characters, like a lot of other anons are saying. >blah blah blah everyone must draw yadda yaddaWhile that's all fine and dandy, how would you get the artistic board collective to agree to this?Furthermore, how would you make this more interesting than the prior tournaments? The first waifu tournament was buzzing on the account of the board being a whole lot less dead, the first husbando games had Indonesian Gentleman drawing out a literal Hunger Games for the second, and RQM literally ran the last two on his own, which I am going to assume you know this.I think that /qst/io kart thing that someone mentioned earlier this thread had some merit, but who wants to tardwrangle an entire board of autists who will lose their shit when their candidate of choice loses miserably? It's happened at least once every tournament (well, not really the husbando tournaments. What I got from your post, mutie boy, is "we should run a boring ass tourney that nobody cares enough to samefag in". But then what's the point of running such a tourney? You could sorta fight samefaggotry with ForgottenQM's voting system, but again the idea that we should keep the stakes low so that even anons willing and able to samefag won't do it out of sheer disinterest is self-defeating. Just adopt some measures and have fun.
Hoping for a tie-breaker vote for the Monster Girl Facility Quest, because this is an important one. You're about to enter the 'leisure centre' for the first time, a place where subjects and staff used to relax in the past. Now though, it has become a hotbed for depravity, death squad action and lawlessness. Therefore, it is important to decide where you'll be heading, given what threats might await you. Will you just follow the quickest route given to you by Annie, or will you take detours to the more eerie, depraved and potentially inhabited areas?>>6366530>>6366530>>6366530

>>6366962I believe that Forgotten spends the first couple days of each new thread allowing people to register an ID for a trip, and then after that, new IDs or people without trips cannot vote. I think there might be some more nuance to it. I haven't actually played one of their quests yet, but that is my impression.
"Registering IDs" don't really stop samefagging, but it does stop people who don't have static IDs from voting. I guess I can't say I got a much better idea, most King tourneys just use a google docs.
>>6367099I was thinking about making people tripfag but I think that will just torpedo engagement
>>6367108>>6367112There's no real foolproof way around vote fraud. it's the price we pay for anonymity. I usually only discount 1post IDs when they would swing a vote, and usually afford some lenience with a trip or backlink. I've found it seems to deter the most egregious samefags. People say it doesn't work, and I know there are ways to get a couple extra votes out of it if you're dedicated and have multiple static IPs you can access, but I think the idea that it does nothing is a little overstated and fatalistic.

>>6367299I feel like protagonists OR antagonists could be nominated for Biggest Bastard, and I feel like that's a better category than Best Villain both for its broadness and because I think it's easier to quantify who is the most bastardous than it is which bad guy is the 'best', though idk if that makes sense. I guess I am also considering how an antagonist could be Most Sweetest, depending on the quest, some MC's are the 'villain' of their story, though I notice that isn't as common.

Thanks for letting me know he didn't abandon ship.>>6366852I technically do have something ready to go, but I'm likely going to keep whatever original quest I do short by means of premise. Something without a huge expansive world or lots of potential. Otherwise I'd risk not one-shotting the one-shot, which defeats the purpose, and possibly abandoning Poképocalypse in favor of it. If I used what I have ready to go, that would definitely incur such a possibility. Therefore, I'm probably saving that for after Poképocalypse is done. >>it's somewhat irritating to have to constantly confirm whether any given modern comfort exists by 1884>Seems like an original where you write the rules is best. Might be. The main concern there is communicating those rules to new players and lapsed questgoers alike in a succinct and understandable manner. That might be just as, if not more, difficult than simply looking up historical factoids and throwing them into the mix. I'm not even all that annoyed by the constant looking-up of things-- it just tends to wear on you after so long doing it. All these constant little breaks in proofreading and drafting where you have to make sure you're not breaking with the timeline. There'll be fewer of them as time goes on, especially as inventions are likely sped up and the world becomes significantly more alien due to the *everything,* but the constant urge to slip in some modern comforts for the sake of quicker writing can end up ever-present at its worst. Death by a thousand papercuts. Anyways: I made a countdown for this stuff as a reminder (and because I remembered about timezones a little too late). When this countdown hits 1 day, I'll close the poll. I should have something up by the time it reaches 0. (If not, please harass me plentifully through whatever means you can.) https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20260207T17&p0=3546&msg=PokepocalypseQM+Gets+Off+Her+%40ss+and+Writes+Again&font=cursiveUntil then, I'm going to echo >>6367409's sentiment and get back to work.

I imagine it wouldn't be another Western/period piece, so maybe scifi or a GOOD? fantasy quest?Well, kind of.For the thing I want to do after Poképocalypse, it's definitely scifi. Probably moreso soft scifi than hard, if only because I am retarded and cannot into science very well (even when I try ;-;), but somewhat definitively scifi. Technically post-apocalypse, too, but post-post-post-post apocalypse to the point where I'm not sure it'll ever even come up.For whatever original thing I come up with for the weekend, assuming I don't cheap out and just appropriate the aforementioned setting, I'm split between either pure mundanity or possibly surrealistic fantasy. The latter is maybe less likely than the former, if only because I doubt I'll be satisfied doing that without providing accompanying visuals, but both are vague handwaves in the direction of possibility. It'll probably be easier for me to be more definitive tomorrow; it's late here and I'm not in the best headspace. But the general idea is something along these lines.A GOOD fantasy quest is something that I dread may never come about. Certainly not by my hand. 'Tis too rare a treasure for the common anon to chance upon, let alone the ever-rarer /qst/anon. Only the most wisened and knowledgeable scholars of the genre may attempt such feats, and rarely may they ever succeed.

The plan was to go on a trip to Himalayas and then, fresh and with some ideas in mind, return. That was many months ago, maybe a year? But instead I returned even lazier, imagine! As it usually goes, the longer one waits, the harder it becomes to return. At this point, I'm not sure if I even remember enough about the characters or the world to continue and do it right, or if my prose didn't deteriorate. And I had shamefully left so many quest unfinished compared to the only one I did finish, that I don't trust myself to start a new quest. Every short one-shot ends up ballooning into multiple threads, no matter how hard I tried. Do share your thoughts on what I should do.

>>6367099>>6366962>>6367117I've found the BCQ & Sworn to Valour verification system to strike the best balance between a minor extra step for players that has done pretty well to shield against the rampant samefagging that plagued a few of the Sworn to Valour votes. In short, the first vote of the thread is open for 24 hours from posting. Anyone can vote on that opening (I usually have the vote relate to fluff options or another POV viewpoint rather than anything critical to the MC). After that all future votes need to link back to the original vote (I personally don't care if their ID hasn't changed, but anons linking back to their OG vote helps me verify the vote quicker and get writing).Allowing necowmers after this first vote is discretionary, and on a goodwill basis. I typically don't allow the newcomers vote for -that- first vote of their to count, but future ones will. The system isn't foolproof, but it does prevent fairly contentious or critical votes being flooded by a samefag. A dedicated enough samefag could probably work around it by spamming the initial opening vote, but it'd be obvious they were samefagging important votes unless they consistently voted in tandem with their original votes for the entire thread.I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but Hope this helps, but good luck with writing your quest no matter what system you use!

>>6368772I guess in a way, though the Covenant sells adherents on a hopeful vision of the future and community of faith. >>6368795>Perhaps a Darkseidian space-empire would be less religious than corporate, kek.The emails between Epstein and Peter Thiel seem to suggest that, whether they are all fully cognizant of it or not, the success of the corporate class is directly tied to everyone being pissed off, hopeless, miserable, tribalistic (to use their exact language), and suffering constant horrors. >>6365137>QM Question:Somewhat, I don't want to run something nobody is going to play but I mean that quite literally. The only thing that will stop me from running something is if I think the idea isn't strong enough to sustain itself and people's attentions. But then again, most of the stuff I want to write about is exploring other settings and adding to them in my own ways. I'm an unapologetic fan-fiction writer by all metrics and I'm okay with that because sometimes it's fun to play in the sandbox without having to wait to build the frame and fill it with sand yourself. I also save all my homebrewing of settings and shit for my irl games I DM for because those are my friends and they have no choice.>Player Question:I love depth. An interesting world, something that has enough going on in it that my brain can chew it when I'm not actively reading or playing. A fantastic example of this that I read through-out a vacation I took was "Wanted Dead: A Western Quest." it had SUCH a strange world that it was impossible to not sit and think on it for a bit for me. It gave me very intense 'The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger' vibes. I enjoy that same depth in characters especially when an author manages to give them a 'voice' that feels real. Lamplighter, Naruto: Feeling Blue, etc. Draw-Quests are also extremely charming to me. Basically; anything where the effort of the author is visible through the medium.>General Question:I liked the idea shared further up about a tourney for quest villains/antagonists. I think heroes and waifus get a lot of shine time in and out of threads but a good villain can really hold a story together. This of course means I have to suck my own dick a bit and say I'd enjoy seeing how The SIM Killer stacks up against other board ne'er-do-wells.>Lurker Question:From the QM side I would prefer a comment on the story to a +1, especially if something is already in the lead and you think 'why bother' that's a good time to just leave some sort of comment. >Run a Quest with a mostly solo MC who gains equipment and trains to become stronger while fighting enemies mostly in melee>Realize a huge number of fantasy quest concepts I have are basically the same thing just without the superhero coat of paintThis sort of thing bother anyone else? Obviously the setting, actual mechanics & story, and everything else could vary tremendously but I still feel like a generic fantasy adventurer quest would be fundamentally very similar to my ongoing Concrete Stratosphere Quest. It'd be like running a second civ at the same time as Monke, which I don't really want to do.
>>6371579I just don't like the idea of running multiple quests at all, and definitely not more than two. That is how you end up finishing nothing. For your actual question however...I mean, yeah. If your idea was that he'd just be a generic adventurer doing goodness, it pretty much would be the same thing. You'd have to give some actual difference in what the protag is doing.
>>6371579I think that's so generic and broad a category of progression -- seen in almost every shonen martial arts story, sword-and-sorcery, and superhero story -- that it's not worth dwelling on. There is a tremendous appetite for variations on the basic formula, and the unique appeal comes less from how the hero confronts his foes (usually directly, face-to-face and mano y mano, because it's better for drama than sniping or scrying an unwitting opponent from a mile away) than who the hero and villain are, why they're fighting, what they stand to win or lose, what their world is like, etcetera. Setting, supporting cast, particular elements of the local power system, and customization options for things like type of power-ups and preferences in technique and method make a way bigger impact than anything else. If that wasn't the case, people would only read a single superhero comic series rather than following multiple, or only play one RPG starring a heroic swordsman, but that of course isn't the case; when people like that basic idea and find it cool, they often like to experience many variations on that basic premise.I think the basic familiarity does a lot to ground expectations, which can then be directed, shaped, subverted, or played into as you and the players desire.

>>6371579Some historians believe that the Greeks pretty much nailed down every possible twist, plot, and resolution in their theatrical works--you can see these parallels in pretty much almost all fiction ranging from Shakespeare to modern day sitcoms. It's easy to get bogged down by how similar your ideas can be to others, but what sets them apart, quests included, is exactly what you mentioned: the story, setting, characters, etc. Similarities are always going to be around--that's just the nature of the beast. Which is why it's up to the author, creator, etc to make the artpiece their own, whether that means adding an extra tree in the watercolor painting or giving a certain personality to the random innkeeper depends on them. In short, no, it doesn't really bother me--quests themselves are pretty formulaic, but they're made unique by the people who play and run them. But in all seriousness... fuck those stinking vile pests, those savage goblin savages. The day of goblinicide shall truly be among the most joyous days of my life. Our weapons will be bathed in goblin blood, you hear? Goblinoids, we shall get you!! We have not forgotten the Second Goblin War. I shall personally slay the next goblin king, so you savage monsters best return to your stinking labyrinth. Those idiotic and foul smelling monsters try to sneak into our homes and monuments... do they not know our noses can find them? We must remove all goblins from the premises immediately. They will be caught, just follow the foulest smell. The Jade Star Empire, the Dwarven Freeholds, the Elfgroves, and the Halfman Barrows shall all unite to kill the goblins, just like the Second Goblin War.By the way, were you aware that the Great Artificer Rinaldo is alive in the periphery? He is building industry and infrastructure upon a periphery world right now, swiftly built and long lasting. Soon the backwards folk of the periphery will be rich with trade and industry, a beacon of civilization… and goblins will remain forever filthy and bereft of civilization's light, living in hovels and yurts if they are lucky.Yes, Rinaldo is alive, and shall soon rule the periphery. But I digress. Fuck the goblins, fuck those wretched enemies of civilization who build nothing and steal everything, I spit in their eyes and salt their earth. Rinaldo is alive and a Great Artificer whose works shall kill all rapacious goblinoids with the tools of civilization and shall make the periphery worlds ascendant. Also, the monkey calling himself the Jade Star Emperor is in fact a wretched Demonic Cultivator whose blasphemous mating with his cimpanzee spirit beast gave birth to the goblin. We shall take our lighthouse back from his vile and rapacious spawn, and crush their skulls like those of a pig. For the periphery is the greatest of realms.
>>6372154All goblins?>>6372126Cryptid or Dark mage. Will it feature futas too?
>>6372160>CryptidFutas don't exist in real life, but I don't think I'd necessarily put in a trans or intersex character for the sake of it. Tbh, I'm not very confident writing an actual trans character in-depth; CZ's intersex anatomy and profound displeasure with her body for this and other reasons was thematically central to Cambion Quest and to her character, but was so fantastical and supernatural that I didn't feel any pressure to portray it sensitively or realistically. With an actual person in something meant to resemble the real world, I'd feel... Weird about it. Gender dysphoria isn't something I've ever experienced or really relate to, after all.>Dark Mage"Futas" of some sort appearing are a possibility, as it would be in the same world as my other quests. There, demons are sexless beings of pure desire, and True Fey are generally hermaphroditic aliens whose mortal descendants (like elves) are often androgynous and produce intersex individuals at a higher proportion than humans do. The main character would be a human, though, so unless players overwhelmingly voted fro them to be transgender or soemthing with a write-in, I have no plans to go that route. It certainly wouldn't be a central crux of the character's arc -- I don't want to repeat myself too much.
>>6372166Some animals can change sex due to difficulty of finding a partner. Could this be a mating strategy of the elusive bigfoot?

>>6372191>mfw loveless lizardWhile no mammals practice sequential hermaphroditism, if bigfeet are closely related to orangutans then there IS precedent for bigfoot femboys as part of a larger reproductive strategy.

>>6372126The cryptid or half-orc things have promise. Anything with futas/hermaphrodites is lowkey cringe fr no cap.
>>6372266Pic related, kek>>6372364It's a setting element I stand by for a lot of somewhat pretentious reasons I won't get into in detail, but mainly in that a lot of my setting is "conspiracy and esotericism lore plus D&D" and having androgynous alien grey aliens and succubi who are also sometimes incubi works well with that, plus the whole transhumanism angle often explores the subject. I'm very glad I didn't chicken out of running a quest with a protagonist like CZ, even knowing it would be a barrier to some people playing, and I quite enjoyed that year and a half or so of writing. I'm not a great artist and don't claim to be, but I don't think any satisfying art (even amateurish low art like what I do) comes from avoiding being cringe.
>>6372364To give my two cents even though nobody asked for it, I think it's not an absurd thing for demons to have elements of both sexes in thir physique. I personally don't really like it as a setting detail, but it is actually pretty well based in daemonology. Baphomet, for example, is almost always depicted as at once masculine and feminine. That said, I think there's an important distinction between goetian bimorphosm and chicks with dicks. If someone just looks like an ordinary woman with a cock and not a freakish unholy amalgam of the masculine and feminine in all respects, I'm always skeptical that it's a fetish thing justified by apocrypha and not necessarily a true homage to the sources in question.
>>6372369>I'm very glad I didn't chicken out of running a quest with a protagonist like CZ, even knowing it would be a barrier to some people playing, and I quite enjoyed that year and a half or so of writing. I'm not a great artist and don't claim to be, but I don't think any satisfying art (even amateurish low art like what I do) comes from avoiding being cringe. You have balls for this. In the short time I have been here I've seen anons spazz about your quest having fetish material in it and generally being weirdly puritanical about it all. I played Cambion anyways, and there was sexual stuff in there that I didn't personally find interesting - but it was definitely far from the graphic, grotesque, 'cringe', whatever I saw people complaining about in the /qtg/, and I do have lines in the sand around that stuff - I really don't care for Devil & Instructress Quest, for example, because of the prevalence of sexual violence and taboo themes. All that to say, I think just having a character that's intersex/hermaphroditic is enough to really piss some people off on this site these days, and make others just disengage. Which feels like a real shame, back in the day 4chan became relevant at all because of its being hospitable to outsiders with weird interests, strange ideas, and limited filters. Over time the politics of the whole site have shifted from libertarian to authoritarian in really noticeable ways, and it's really stifled the variety and boldness of ideas in regrettable ways - I've bitched about this before, though not in so many words. It was horrible seeing mtg threads on /tg/ gradually go from friendly discussion to flame wars and meltdowns about whatever nonbinary card WotC decided to print. Idk man I'm rambling but I'm so embarrassed for how fragile some anons are about shit like that, or even just characters being black or being women at all bitching a bit about my own recent experience with After-Bloom in the latter case; as much as I love the enthusiasm of some of those chud-anons, I don't care for people bringing their blinders and baggage into *my* story. Just have a good time or read something else! Anyways... I got a lot of respect for you not being a coward about something people are so sensitive about. I also respect you knowing your limits there and not having a drive to write more characters like that just because you already have. It shows a lot of bravery and humility, and take it from this washed-up pro writer, those things will take you really damn far in this craft. I like to think they did for me.
>>6372379For what it's worth, /qst/ is generally quite hospitable even to people who don't fit the mould. Detractors can get me down, but in the end this is still a board where I can both...>run a quest about a sinister quasi-Jewish clan of mixed-race demons and lizardpeople who increasingly rule a flat earthand>have them be sympathetic protagonists that players root for...and even if it's not everybody's cup of tea, people very rarely actually try to shit up my threads or get me banned. There are very few other spaces on the internet where something like that would catch huge amounts of flack for one aspect or the other. That kind of latitude is a wonderful thing, and I think it's part of why I stay around: what it allows me to do, but also the kinds of creativity and authentic earnestness I see in others' work here. That can be cringey, but it's also just something worthwhile about /qst/, I think.but yes, people will be weird about certain demographics, it's glorious tradition>>6372370I did my best to make monstrous moments monstrous, but I wasn't SOLELY drawing on Christian traditions or negative depictions, and I do find it amusing to reference fetish stuff, so I don't know where I landed on that. In this quest and the last, there was a lot of "malleability of self" stuff from transhumanism, and in Cambion especially a lot of orientalism in keeping with the New Age occultism and UFO cult stuff I like to draw on, where beyond between or beyond male and female can also be a good or neutral thing. I'm not against people finding a character sexy or whatever, but I think even people who didn't like my quest would agree that the character in question mostly had a bad time while she was hermaphroditic, and her situation wasn't presented as very ideal. It was ultimately a quest about a party of freaks, monsters, and outcasts.

>>6372425You know i feel like at some point gruesomeness crosses from "narrative" to "fetishistic"
>>6372425I sincerely hope you kill yourself schiz. You are a disgusting freak and you have never created anything of value in your entire wretched life. If someone walked into your hut and beat you to death like a diseased rodent they would be doing the world a service
>>6372550I stand by my past assessment of the actual content of Schiz's quests, in that I don't think he gets off on the violent content in that sense... But I admit that sexual violence against children (as seems to be implied) is something that viscerally grosses me out. Good stories can still exist with thsoe implications (Nightmare on Elm Street, Berserk, and dark comedy like South Park on the one end of yhe spectrum, something like Hard Candy or Beasts of No Nation on the more serious/solemn end) but it's a really fine line to walk. Villain protagonists enacting it would be something more extreme than anything I've read in a Schiz quest yet, and that level of overt cruelty to that specific sort of target is an aspect that might be a bit of a breaking point for my ability to enjoy it. I was never able to get into Fae Smelter's serial killer quest for the same reason, even though I like stuff like Hannibal, Dexter, and Benwath the Trees Where Nobody Sees.
>>6372552There's a fundamental difference between writing a person doing horrible things and writing that normalized and fetishizes that content. When I see any excerpt or illustration Schiz makes, I don't see a serious exploration of the themes of assault, grooming, and sexual violence. What I see is a degenerate freak making reading child porn hentai books a quirky personality trait and trying to mask his obvious depraved fetishism as edge and "theming". As someone who likes to write villains, it sickens me to even be considered in the same category as someone like Schiz, and to be frank it's a little weird to me that you'd try to justify his behavior considering the circumstances at play. I don't know if it's because you see what people say about you, find it unfair, and assume the things that people say about Schiz are the same thing, or if you genuinely just don't care about how sick and depraved he is, but I genuinely don't understand how you can try to justify this by comparing his rape abortion fantasy slop to actual literature that actually explores the themes in question
>>6372557Well again, I'd say that having read most of his quests, I've found there's relatively little actual description of the sexual or violent aspects. I wouldn't characterize the stuff I've read by him as pornographic. I don't know if I missed a quest somewhere, but nothing I've read by him has had any overt descriptions of kids having sex, and while abortion and contraception are running themes, it's never really been described in a fetishistically detailed way. On top of that, I talk to him about non-qst stuff and I would describe him as being extremely anti-rape more broadly, so I don't actually think it's likely he is a dangerous or depraved person so much as just edgy and interested in taboo themes. I still jold that opinion, barring evidence to the contrary. You're right that I relate, too. People DO exaggerate the level of detail and depravity in his quests. I liek reading and writing somewhat edgy works, and people do that to me, so between that and takking to the guy I do kind fo relate. That said, I didn't really like the Terrifier movies, and I'm not sure whether or not the next thread is going to be my cup of tea. I'm not making a moral condemnation of it, but it's... Outsider my comfort zone, if the protagonists are doing child rape-murder, I think.
>>6372508I mean, realistically if you start with the oldest, the little ones will run away and scatter. If you start with the youngest, the older ones will stick around trying to stop you.
>>6372552Dude this guy has repeatedly used rape and pedoshit to advertise his quest, not to mention his disturbing obsession with abortion. To me, that makes it abundantly obvious that he considers these "themes" to be the main draw of his writing rather than some plot-point that he's using incidentally for shock value. In other words, I agree with >>6372551 and I think schiz needs to be raked over the coals and beaten.
>>6372552>Benwath the Trees Where Nobody Sees.Funny, I just thought about that yesterday. I read the first issue but never kept up with it.
>>6372562I get what you mean, but it's really no edgier IMO than Garth Ennis stuff like Crossed or the comic version of The Boys. I'd argue Schiz's acrual written work hasn't even risen to the level of Homelander* eating a baby on panel, so... I dunno. I'm pretty resistant to that sort of edginess. I did spend my adolescence on Old 4chan.>>6372563I would recommend, if you have a sttong stomach and a dark sensibility. It it quite a good psycological drama and cat-and-mouse game. The sequel is good, too!
>>6372560Are you being intentionally dense? I'm not saying that he's writing child porn on site, I'm talking about normalization— how he makes half his cast rapists as a quirky personality trait, how he writes people pickling wombs and brings attention to the dead abortion fetuses whenever available, and so on. At a certain point in time, when you make EVERY character some kind of sexual deviant freak without acknowledging how horrible it is, you are normalizing that behavior. It would be like if Nabokov wrote Lolita, but instead of framing it as a statement in a trial where this sick pedophile freak was about to be condemned, he wrote it as a quirky tavern story where we were supposed to like and sympathize with Humbert instead of wishing for him to be executed the entire time. You can talk about private conversations with the guy as much as you want. I'm sure he insists he isn't ACTUALLY a rapist, but he uses images from an incest game to represent himself, constantly harps on about it in everything he writes, and seems suspiciously comfortable writing characters he described as being as small as children having sex. I'm pretty sure Epstein wouldn't tell you he was a pedophile rapist either, but that's not really much of an excuse is it?
>>6372566>Are you being intentionally dense?I feel as if we're talking past each other, and I don't want to really be mean about it because I don't think your discomfort is WRONG or that you have to like what he writes. I'd just say that nome of his other quests treat rapists harmlessly quirky to my knowledge, and this one has deliberately villainous protagonists. His presentation style is edgy in the QTG, but (up to this point) his quests haven't been as flippant as his memes are.Flippant or no, though, I do agree that it makes perfect sense to have lines one doesn't want to cross in what they read or write, and I think this particular subject matter may be that for me. They had a "payong evil unto evil" angle in the first thread of the quest, which still had heinous acts involved, but not... Quite what seems to be implied here, which is maybe more than I can handle.
I'm not so sure about it being a full on "Ahhh he's a pedo rapist fetish man" but it's certainly a bit beyond writing.It's...how can I put it, if you constantly draw, talk and write about putting anime girls in a blender, my first guess isn't that you actually put people in blenders, it's that you're a weirdo with a weird fetish. This is a site where things like /d/ exist, after all.
>>6372570that mirrors my view, my main problem with the guy is that this is a blue board, I think his stuff is a bit over that line,if he went somewhere else, where people like him gather, all sides would probably be happier
>>6372574Unless he's actively crossing over the line where it counts as red board material, you can't really ban him without opening up an issue of just getting rid of any quest you dislike. All I'm saying is, feels fetishistic.
>>6372575ERP in general is against the rules, not just explicit porn
>>6372570Yeah, exactly this. I don't think Schiz goes out actually raping minors, but if I found a boatload of loli and shotacon porn on his pc I'd be about as surprised as I'd be if I found water in lake superior>>6372568Again I disagree. There's edgy, and then there's this. When someone is doing this for the sake of grimdark, it's usually pretty obvious— the examples you mentioned, for example, really highlight that. Schiz is different. I don't feel like he's sickened by what he writes, not really. Picrel from his elden ring quest
>>6372579>Picrel from his elden ring questIsn't that the game where one of the villains is a shit-caked coprophiliac who rips people's souls out their asses?
>>6372581I'd rather shake his decrepit shit covered hand than delve into Schiz's hard drive honestly. Way less disturbing
>>6372581Yep. The Japanese have some weird beliefs regarding souls being torn out from assholes. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice had these guys. Guess what their grab attack does.
>>6372579I never did read or play the Elden Ring or cyberpunk ones, admittedly. I will still say I don't think he's a genuinely bad or evil person, and I don't think he gets off on abortion or whatever. It's my opinion, and I feel confident enough in it to want to step in for the guy when he catches heat. Sometimes he does bring it on himself a little, like with this meme or perhaps the Elden Ring quest (not sure, don't want to judge from one out of context excerpt), but sometimes it feels like a pile-on over content that just... Isn't that egregious to me.I'm happy to agree to disagree, and I think I agree on this most recent matter insifar as that meme made me uncomfortable, but since you asked... Yeah. I've read/watched edgier stuff in mainstream-ish works, and used to go on Encyclopedia Dramatica, so I'm relatively desensitized perhaps. I don't believe that edgy content predicts or correlates to genuine IRL depravity (partly because I grew up in an era where that was normal 4chan culture and I'm stull a huge bleeding heart and squeamish about real-world sex and violence, lol), and I don't USUALLY find Schiz stuff more disturbing than, like... A Mark Millar comic or a Hostel movie.
>>6372020Are you the guy always asking for one? What would you like to see in it?
I do not know what this abortion fetish quest is or who is writing it. I must be too employed.
I think we should settle all of this angst with a good ol fashioned hammer fight. Next week at 3 A.M. in the defunct K-Mart parking lot. Ball-peen hammers only and not of comical size. Dress code is business casual but crocs or sandals are allowed.
>>6372595If you can caoture any of the humour and hype of the old anime, I think even people undmailiar with the original would love to play some rock 'em sock 'em magic alien robot model kit adventures!>>6372619Sorry anon, but as mentioned above, I'm only a keyboard warrior. Kek.
>>6372619>crocs>at a formal eventProbably why the hammer fight tradition exists in the first place.
>>6372626>undmailiar*unfamiliar
My two cents is that even though Olympus is a bandwagon hater and his art is never going to get better he's right.>>6372626You are an idiot and your quests are lazy. Your players don't have any freedom and they don't care because they're all there to jerk off. You can have a quest that makes players jerk off but it has to be GOOD. You deserve your players though because this back and forth made you look really stupid.>>6372425And this guy is just a pedophile who gets 3 votes because nobody likes him and he's even less talented than Olympus QM. Where's Bananas with his GOOD quest? I need it now.
>>6372642Hi Widefu. Trying a new tack to upset me, eh?
>>6372646I don't think it's widefu. The catty digs at my art and the random references to bananas make it read more like a sojpost
>>6372646It sounds more like Soj Reptoid sorry to say
>>6372595No, that's me. I'd like a quest centered about being the very best, like a sports anime. If can make an evil team then great, but it's not necessary to go that far to make the stakes that hard.Maybe about a poor MC that needs to become a pro to help their family. Like those soccer players from poor countries. Victor in the anime is literally that too.Female protagonist of course.
>>6372345>>6372345>>6372345We're finally out of Bert and Ernie's fight. The next update will be faster since I'm not drawing it this time. You could try asking to turn the MC into an adult again.
>>6372638>>6372638>>6372638 Since I'm at it, I may as well promote this one.
>>6372651>>6372653Huh, weird. I don't really have a major problem with Soj, and didn't know he even read (let alone jacked it??) to my quests.
Who TF is Soj anyways, I keep seeing that name around. Has he run any quests worth reading?
>>6372660> Has he run any quests worth reading?
>>6372646You're the one acting like that asshat right now.>>6372651>The catty digs at my art I'm not being catty, you just seem stuck. Have you tried using references? Especially for women, it looks like you haven't seen one in person before. >>6372658Why would you have problems with me? It's not trolling, that's what you're quests are like. And no, I don't read them actively. I read Antipaladin until it became clear you didn't care about the players, and sometimes the new one because people post about it here. You still don't care what they want and your fetishes aren't even appealing. Commission Bananas for some furry femboys maybe? Not Olympus though. How's that for a " catty dig at your art, and a random reference to Bananas?" >>6372655>>6372657These QMs care about their players and put effort in, by the way.
>>6372660Yes, he's run quite a few good quests and is a pretty good artist, though he gets frustrated quite readily and sometimes flakes or quits early. He also likes to feud sometimes, thouhh traditionally with Bananas; it's news to me that he hates my guts, lol. His Royal Rumble quest way back when was a big inspiration to me when I started that quest he says was full of railroading and indifference.>>6372662I don't really understand what your issue is with my QMing style, but I' sorry you had a bad time. If you're speaking in good faith, I welcome feedback on where you feel I ignored what players wanted. It's not always possible to please every player, obviously, but I generally try to be faor and accomodating to the votes, including write-ins. I'm very ouzzled by accusations of railroading in particular because, like, none fo my quests ended in the way I expected them to when I started, and I chalk that up mainly to player choices.
>>6372662Lmao I'm improving just fine, these are old illustrations from a previous quest made at around the same time as each other so idk why there'd be any difference in quality between them. And yeah, you are being catty, soj. Randomly attacking other people's work for no reason isn't normal discourse. But please, by all means, enjoy yanking your crank to more illustrations based on your own ass while bitching and moaning that nobody appreciates your femboy porn quests enough. You attack Reptoid for not caring about his players (even though he objectively puts a lot of time and work into his writing and sticks his stuff through to the end, unlike some worthless flakes out there), but you are by far the most egocentric and least considerate qm I've ever had the displeasure of speaking to.
>>6372662Why are you so weirdly hostile about people playing pretend time lolRQM isn't gods gift to questing or anything but the guy participates in so much of what goes on around here, doesn't stoke any negativity really, and seems to try to engage thoughtfully. I was in the whole 10th thread of Cambion, and there was only one vote with material that was overtly sexual (enough so that I took a pass on that one, anyways), and a lot of the votes were really consequential for the characters, so I just don't really even understand your criticism. I don't understand just trashing a drawfag either... Why? What are you doing that makes this board a more interesting or pleasant place to hang out? Why are you so in your feelings about this stuff? You seem very peculiar to me, anon.
>>6372665For the record, I'm very glad to have commissioned your art and would do so again, Olympus. The only reason I didn't for this last quest is that you tend towards legginess, and the main characters were squat goblinoids. I apologize if our argument chafed or of I was rude.>>6372667Lol, fair. Thanks for being civil and I'm glad to have you on the board, bud. There are indeed many, MANY QMs much better than me. I think if Moloch comes back, you'd really jive with his stuff.
>>6372662You are a fucking animal Soj and you deserve to be beaten like one. The only thing you've run is cumslop garbage (and that's assuming you run at all instead of immediately flaking), and you have a unique talent of making even the women you draw look gay. Please take a deep look into your own psyche and assess whether your pattern of abandoning quests comes from an absentee parent or two.
>>6372667Soj is infamous for being a bitter, whiny loser who thinks his work is the second coming of jesus and that this site and its playerbase are worthless and dying (but notably can't resist the urge to constantly come back here for some reason). He's absolutely projecting on Reptoid because he gets really pissy when people don't vote or act the way he wants and sometimes quits over it, and he's had some of the worst takes in qtg ever seen, including using the tragic suicide of another qm as a prop to make a point about the board culture. Genuinely a worthless individual with no redeeming qualities whatsoever
>>6372672Nah I don't have a problem with you personally, and I'm happy to have done business with you. I just completely disagree on your assessment of someone I believe to be a genuinely horrible person
>>6372663>it's news to me that he hates my guts, lol.I don't care enough about you to hate you, you're just the most annoying person in this thread now that that senile spammer is gone. >>6372665>Lmao I'm improving just fine, these are old illustrations from a previous quest made at around the same time as each other so idk why there'd be any difference in quality between them.Let me look in your current thread. Yeah, you can still use a lot more practice. Please start using references, women don't look like that, they have bones and muscles inside them just like you or me. Maybe not muscles for you, lol, you did give up on arguing with Reptoid when I "insulted" your old art. If you gave up that easy because someone told you facts on qtg you would have "flaked" instantly if you got a fraction of the hate I did. And the most egocentric and least considerate qm you've ever had the displeasure of speaking to? You're definitely a discord poster so we both know that's not true. Unless you're a troll and Wide put you up to needling Reptoid. Then I shouldn't even bother talking to you, lol.>>6372667>participates in so much of what goes on around here, doesn't stoke any negativity reallyWhat even "goes on around here"? The board is dead now. And if he doesn't stoke negativity why is he getting into a slapfight with a troll? >>6372673>You are a fucking animal Soj and you deserve to be beaten like oneWho even are you? You sound really mad.I guess it's just a hugbox now that I'm around, everyone gets to kick me while they're immune from criticism. And then you wonder why I get "mad". Olympus, I would have helped you if you weren't clearly a troll but you are right about the site being dying, the last QTG is 100 days old and still up. No wonder they got rid of the IP counter here.
>>6372662>These QMs care about their players and put effort in, by the way. Also I am just being nitpicky, and no offense to Sakibro/bogemon which seems perfectly cool but...>>6341572>>6341572>>6341572This and the following panels are a lot more sexually charged, taboo, and pornographic than anything I saw in Cambion; makes it difficult to take your whining seriously at all? >>6372672I think you write well and you put in effort in a lot of ways that improve the whole board. It's genuinely really cool you try to participate so much, and are even willing to do writeups and reviews of a ton of quests. Obviously, I also really appreciate you being friendly and welcoming to me since I've settled here, it means a lot. It's been a really hard year, and I seem to have some new huge problem every fuckin' week lately. Getting back into fiction writing and having anons like you that are eager to engage and to bring people into the community has meant a lot to me. So even if I like some of your stuff more than others, I have meant it when I've commended the quality of the writing and running - and I mean it when I commend you for being, to me, an example of the culture that makes a space like this work. I mean hell, man, I really disagree with your patience for Schiz, but it's still kinda cool that you are just chill about it and don't feel an urge to dogpile either.
Dude please just find something better to do. You come here and spiel the exact same stuff every month or two like someone with terminal dementia.
>>6372675Eh, fair. I don't rescind my opinion on Schiz, but I also have a notably high tolerance for edgy people as well as content. I still think he's a good lad, personally, and it's tough for me not to come to the defence of someone who's only ever been nice to me unless there's evidence he actually did something abhorrent IRL. Perhaps it's a bad take, but it is what it is.>>6372677>everyone gets to kick meBro, I don't know if you think I'm being facetious, but I'm genuinely going out of my way to be nice and civil to you even as you insult me and my work.
>>6372677>What even "goes on around here"? The board is dead now. And if he doesn't stoke negativity why is he getting into a slapfight with a troll?Wah wah wah wah lmao So grumpy!!!
>>6372677I don't want or need your help, Soj. I haven't given up on anything— it's evident I can't convince Reptoid about Schiz, so any further argument would be a waste of time. I don't think your art is particularly appealing, and I have no desire to have mine look more like yours. I actually got quite a bit of blowback for some of the choices I made while I was running Olympus, especially in threads 1 and 2, but instead of being a pussy crybaby flake I just ignored them, locked in, and finished my quest. Also, Wide is undeniably a jerk, a troll, and often a bad actor, nobody's denying that, but even he wouldn't resort to milking someone's death for internet points like you did you degenerate freakAlso, since you can't read, this >>6372673 is observerqm. There is more quality and artistry in just five seconds of one of his Solstice opening animations than you have ever produced in your entire worthless life
Nothing ever happens in /qtg/.
>>6372677>I don't care enough about you to hate you, you're just the most annoying person in this thread now that that senile spammer is gone.Debatable.
>>6372685FUCKING KEK! If only half the energy that's going into this weird drama went into each other's quests as voters.... I need to update one of my quests instead of wading into this goofiness desu but fuck I am just feeling so tired and empty today... How do I get more people to try out After-Bloom?
>>6372678>don't feel an urge to dogpile either. What's happening now then?>>6372680>I'm genuinely going out of my way to be nice and civil to youIf this is what you call being "nice and civil" then you're a real piss-poor troll, sorry to be the one to tell you. >>6372682You aren't even using words, lol. I guess there are 2 QMs who are slower than Reptoid here. No wonder the board is in the state it's in. Where even is Banana's new thread? >>6372683>so any further argument would be a waste of timeNice to see you agree that he's stupid. But you think you can convince me of anything when you're going to parrot every single talking point trolls have been using against me for literally a decade now, so you're going to keep arguing with me. Does that make any sense? No, what makes sense is that you and the pissy brown ID generic name QM, and the idiot who can't even string a sentence together are just three more trolls trying to get a rise out of me. Nice try though. If you ever leave that cesspit I can still give you some pointers, they just won't be free anymore. Bananas if you read this it's all your fault for not occupying these idiots with your GENIUS puzzles in your GOOD quest.
>>6372688You could always post the link here to try and shake a few new readers into the 'bucket', but from what I've seen the best practice is to just remain consistent--players come and go, but many flock to good, frequent updates and a dedication to not flaking. Another method is word of mouth!Speaking of, definitely check out Afterbloom if you haven't, folks. Really promising stuff so far and Slouch here is in it to win it.
>>6372689>Insults someone out of the blue for no reason>Gets insulted back"WAAAAH THEY'RE TROLLING ME THEY'RE ATTACKING ME WAAAAH"Classic sojourner victim complex.
>>6372689Soj, I complimented your work to the new guy and solicited feedback. I teased you about jacking it to my quests, but I feel that was fairly light ribbing because you suggested you played AND that this was the only reason to play. Are you mad that I said you get frustrated easy and quit quests sometimes? You DO do that, man. I'm sorry. I wish you didn't, because I generally like your quests. Your art is good to. I wish you would go quest somewhere you enjoy if you dislike it here so much, but I'm not trying to upset or troll you by saying so.>>6372690Sloucho's prose and formatting is probably some of the best on the board IMO, which is a lot less surprising since he alluded to being a publushed professional author. DetectQM is the same way. Great stuff!
>>6372689>What's happening now then?A) You're being a poor sport and trashing people randomly, so having been prompted to do so they are now sharing criticisms of you as a participant on the board. Reptoid has frankly barely even called you out on anything here, and has even complimented you along multiple lines, so again I just don't know what reality you are on, man. You seem to be just living up to all these complaints about you with the more you whine and moan. Very weird behavior! B) You are farming for (You)'s because you're bored, I guess? C) Nothing is happening... Nothing ever happens in the /qtg/... >>6372690Yes, like the fisherman... I must be patient(: Thank you for the kind words, buddy. I got curious and started reading the OG Bones quest, I'll have you know!
>>6372694I don't usually go for a ton of post apoc stuff, but I did read a bit more than a third of your quest. It's really good - I like the writing and the setting is super unique. I'll probably try to catch up this weeks so I can actually vote.
>>6372695The vibe After-Bloom gives me, more than anything, is probably akin to that movie Annihilation, but planet wide and with a wider cast. It is VERY cool. I am beginning to like it even more than Cyberpunk Fairytale, and ALMOST as much as Legend of Zuzo.
>>6372695I kneel... I am intimidated by the scope of Vanguard but I really admire your art and the way you tell that story, though I have only read a small amount at this point. The next time a thread launches I may try my hand at jumping in... >>6372693>>6372696Humbled as ever by the positive feedback!!! >Alluded to being an author I do street outreach work full time now, but in a past life I was a journalist and author... I actually was writing professionally full-time right out of high school, if you'd believe it! Being here has gotten me back into practice after years of not writing anything but grant bids and essays, it's a huge relief.
Haven't had time to visit the board in a long while now - life got super hectic - anyone got a clue what happened to the Queen of [x] QM who ran a Claymore and Nart Quest, and a Bleach one before that? Seems to have disappeared around August last year, Claymore was almost finished, the Naruto Quest less so.
>>6372721>>6372721>>6372721Very important Monster Girl Facility Quest update. You could either use Annie's help to try and break through this checkpoint without getting spotted...Or, you were going to have to backtrack through extremely dangerous death squad territory. Either way, you're going to have to make a decision which could very well bring certain doom upon you...
>>6372758Jannies be like:>"Naked Man-Ass? AWOOOOOOGA, AWOOOOOOOGA, *Pant Pant Pant* Yes this is fine, desirable even!">"You DARE post an ass-shot of a MAID IN A BIKINI!? This is a Blue Board you fucking CHUD get the fuck out with your objectifying male gaze REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
What a weird thread I've come into>>6372425Goodness gracious, man. This is appalling and disgusting. I hope you don't look at minors on the street with these sorts of thoughts.>>6372642>his art is never going to get betterIf Olympus stopped abusing the airbrush and learned how to use HARD VS. SOFT EDGES, I think he definitely could improve.Personally, I think only nonfunctional autists-- the archetype of autists that are obsessed with vocaloids and draw like sonichu and that shit-- are truly incapable of improving at art. If you look at art of sparkledog troon autismos, you'll quickly know what I mean.
>>6372780First of all, I don't use all that much airbrush. I generally like to start with hard shapes and then blur or smudge out the edges on most of the stuff I render since I think it looks nice. I do sometimes use harder shadows in specific situations, but I've found that I just have more fun using less harsh edges in my rendered pieces. I know not everyone is gonna like it, but it's my personal preference and I wouldn't consider it an error. You and I have already had this conversation a couple of times, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to take a pot shot now lol
>>6372784A good goon never misses a chance to quip about his or his boss' foes.
>>6372787I don't think Siren's associated with soj. Or at least I hope they're not. Even if Siren might not like me very much anymore I still think their work is super cool, even if we have some minor disagreements about how we like to render a character. I'd hate to find out that they run in the same circles as someone like sojourner
>>6372788Both names begin with an S. Both names end with an R. It's clear as day.
>>6372758>>6372691>>6372660Just a heads up that this is my trip. I say this because I really didn't understand where this beef came from with Soj and, checking in with him by another means, he apparently isn't QovQ/mxf. Seems somebody is stirring the pot, maybe. In related news, I'm going to be a little less obnoxious for a bit. Sorry.Anyway, yeah. Just something to keep an eye out and remember: if anyone impersonates me without the trip, it's not me.
>>6372811>he apparently isn't QovQ/mxfthought so
>>6372811Eh, I don't know if I buy it. Soj has a history of posting tripless, and he also has a history of doing unsavory things and denying it later. I don't see any real reason why someone would go so far out of their way to learn everything about him and impersonate him either.Honestly, even if this wasn't him today, the way he tried to use Axis's suicide as a tool for a shitty internet argument is absolutely unforgivable. Even if this isn't really soj, I take nothing back
>>6372792Siren doesn't end with an R.
>>6372814>>6372815I tentatively believe him, because he seemed very genuinely confused when I asked him why he had a problem with me. I don't know why he would insult me openly for multiple posts only to be pretend it wasn't him afterwards... And we do, legitimately, not have any beef prior to today, to my knowledge. It could be some weird con, but I don't know... A dip back in the Discord did remind me that there's all kinds of hidden drama and lol-farming I've been avoiding (but also ignorantly feeding?) for a long, long time. I don't know for sure, but I know if it isn't Sojourner, it would suck for that to be new QMs and readers' first impression of him.I don't know much about the Axis drama, though. I didn't know the guy or even play his quest, so it seemed invasive or disrespectful to wade into others' grief and related discourse.
>Oh wow the QTG looks active lets see what they are dis-What shitstorm did I just enter?
>>6372788>>6372784Wasn't a potshot nor insult and wasn't intended to come off that way. The crit was meant to be well-intentioned in spite of the humorous tone I used. In the back of my mind, I considered you might've remembered the crit I gave you a while ago, but I let the sleeper programming for my love of hard edges and minor art technicalities activate. Also I personally think it's mean-spirited for an anon to outright insult another anon's art skills and tell them they won't improve, unless they're schiz/CSAM.I don't even have a stake in the argument that you and (notsoj?) were having aside from my personal disdain of airbrush abuse, though I've seen artists who are pretty good at handling them. Honestly, hard edge, soft edge, whatever-- I think the point of art on /qst/ (or in general) is to have fun with what you're making as well, and that includes enjoying the tools that you use to make art. I don't mind disagreeing on rendering methods kek-- if everyone drew the same, that'd make this board (and the world) quite boring.>Even if Siren might not like me very much anymore I still think their work is super coolHonestly I have bigger fish to fry *ha ha* than online arguments that are long-past, even if we disagree in some places. Why bother with that when I can talk about art instead (which is much more fun than squabbling)? Also thx senpai much appreciated.Nice Amie btw>>6372817TLDR: Axis committed suicide and announced it to the discord out of the blue. Some people took it as a joke, but he really didn't give anyone a chance to talk him out of it.
>>6372821>AxisI knew that, I just don't know if (assuming there is a Soj impersonator) there was evidence it was real-soj and not fake-soj, you know? There may or may not be, not trying to weigh in, just saying if there's evdience Soj is a bad guy, I was unaware of it. Today was, as I said, the first time I (seemingly) ever had beef with him, so it seemed polite and responsible to clear the air and to let people know to be alert in case he's telling the truth. I also wanted to make sure people knew my trip in case such a thing happened to me sometime... People HAVE tried spoofing my name on the Discord, last time I used it before today.
>>6372821I don't have anything against you— I never have and unless you do something really weird or fucked up I probably never will, and I'm pretty open to receiving criticism on my work in general. I always like to improve. What's weird about it to me is the surrounding context— you read several posts of soj? saying I was a talentless hack and repeatedly and unconstructively insulting my work, and instead of saying anything against the actual conduct you just said that you disagree that I'm physically incapable of improvement since even though you have criticisms of my style I'm not literally mentally handicapped. I just sort-of skimmed past the whole argument cause I simply didn't feel like reading the string of ad hominems between you and QovQ/mxf, but my mental summary was, "damn, what a load of hot air," and, "wow, what vindictive bullshit," mostly on notsoj's part. I didn't want to explicitly throw my wrench straight in the middle because it seemed like a beef between the two of you, and I didn't feel like furthering the ongoing shitfest, ya dig?>Also I personally think it's mean-spirited for an anon to outright insult another anon's art skills and tell them they won't improve, unless they're schiz/CSAM.Did you not read that part from one of my previous posts? Implicitly that was meant for QovQ/mxf since he's probably reading this. I'd certainly like to believe it's *not* soj since the writing style doesn't match in spite of anon clearly trying to impersonate him. Again, just me being avoidant to conflict and not really feeling like dealing with QovQ/mxf's bullshit. My farfetched theory is schiz in disguise, since anon seemed to think he could try to crit you.>you just said that you disagree that I'm physically incapable of improvement since even though you have criticisms of my style I'm not literally mentally handicapped. Take it how you want, but I genuinely didn't mean anything vindictive or directed at you in-particular when I talked about autists of the sparkledog troon variety-- poorly-worded, probably. IDK why you'd take offense to this when you are not autistic, much less a sparkledog-drawing, nonfunctional autismo.Reworded: yes, you can improve. You definitely have room to improve, and I enjoy seeing the improvement of every questie. The words of one vindictive anon shouldn't stop you from doing otherwise (who I still believe is either schiz or one of the bad actors from the discord.)I didn't feel like writing a billion paragraphs to clarify that my other posts were poorly-worded and not written in bad faith, but whatever.
>>6372852>Schiz in disguiseJust chiming in to say I don't think that makes sense, either, given the nature of the comments by QovQ/mxf in regards to me. >>6372852Look, I really wasn't upset, and your last post cleared it up well enough for me to understand you didn't mean anything by it without having to type all of this out. I was just clarifying why I interpreted it as an insult in the first place since it seemed based on your reply that you didn't quite get why I thought it was. I wasn't trying to rake you over the coals for a justification or whatever, I just wanted to explain my point of view a bit so you wouldn't assume it was because of your tone or whatever, and not to discourage you or anyone else from critiquing my art under more normal circumstances. I kept mulling over the idea of running a quest where you're part of an organization that deals with kaiju, featuring creatures from Godzilla, Gamera, and others, but I felt like it wouldn't get much traction
>>6373233I would play the everliving fuck out of that. There's a Godzilla comic by James Stokoe that I think would be perfect inspo for something like that, I really like how he characterizes the different 'teams' for the Kaiju fighting org. The Rodan guys are like fighter pilots, and the Mothra guys are a couple of hippies with a tricked out VW bus, it's super cool!
>>6373240I was thinking your character might fight both kaiju and evil groups like aliens, terrorists, kaiju cultists, mad scientists, etc., sometimes on the ground in person, sometimes fighting in things like the Super X, Gotengo, or maybe even Kiryu. Also you and your allies might recruit some good monsters ala the Kong and Gamera films, or Godzilla the Series
>>6373233>>6373243Incredibly based.
>>6373243This sounds hype as fuck? There was actually a comic series this past year called 'Godzilla Heist', where this scientist guy figures out how to lure Godzilla to locations using a neutrino beam and then uses little robot drones to corral his rampage juuuust enough to commit crimes - starts with busting into a bank vault, moves on to a big job on the London facility where Mechagodzilla is housed. I think working in someone or something like that could also be extremely cool. But, yaknow, by now there's an endless amount of interesting stuff to reference for inspo, it sounds like you already have great ideas.
>>6373244>>6373240Also this guy would be fighting alongside the organization from the start.
>>6373245>>6373244>>6373243>>6373240Basic premise is that the events of certain films going all the way back to 1925's "The Lost World" happened, and following the 1998 incident with Zilla, an organization was formed made up of and funded by nations from across the globe to develop defenses against and battle kaiju. You'd be part of the organization just when the kaiju threat suddenly begins to surge again, and various forces start trying to use kaiju for their own gains. One aspect that I am nervous about writing is the whole "this is being funded and staffed by nations around the world" bit given current events including wars and political strife. Not sure if it would be in bad taste or tone deaf to have nations and people that are currently having problems with one another be working together in the story,
>>6373248>Not sure if it would be in bad taste or tone deaf to have nations and people that are currently having problems with one another be working together in the story,I don't think that's an issue now any more than it was when the original Star Trek put a Russian on the bridge. It's an alt-history anyway. That's my two cents.
>>6373252I guess I also worry that I don't know how to write characters from other nations much deeper than going "this is so-and-so from Sweden" or something and make occasional references to them saying something in their native tongue.

>>6373790Buy an ad?The best proven method is consistency, making loyal players to a quest, and secondly is mass appeal and/or good premise that attracts an audience. You can't just have one or the other; there have been several long running quests for multiple years that only pull in a small number of diehard players, so a certain amount of mass appeal and "crowd pleasing" is required to get people in, then, make them stay with quality, good communication, or a nice community in some combination thereof.Unfortunately, it is somewhat a popularity contest and if you didn't start a few years ago when the board was more active you may be at a disadvantage. While quests don't compete for each other for players directly there is certainly a limit on how many quests the average player is going to keep up with. The only real lasting method for /qst/ growth is to increase board traffic which is only going to be done through outside factors. Several ad campaigns on 4chan have been run which seems to increase interest and traffic by a small amount, but unless mass culture actively pushes more towards creative writing or a lot of attention is put on /qst/ in particular (like a famous youtube making a "the most interactive RPG you've never played" type expose on the board) it's unlikely we won't just continue a slow decline. Not to be a doomer about it but it's simply the nature of things.
Well this sure is an interesting place.Anyway, return of Warhammer: Fallen Brother Soon™

>>6373999Your voting windows are just very short for such a slow board, man. I work all day, for instance; I missed a couple votes. I'd vote now, but I'm taking a bit of a step back from the site and have made some more time with friends and for other hobbies, so I don't have time... But I'll certainly check in and vote when I can.
>>6373999Buddy, you close votes way faster than most other quests. Sometimes there's going to be slow periods in the day, or the week. Your quest isn't dead, your players might've just not had the time to check yet?
>>6373999This is why it pays to stick around and lurk a little bit--/qst/ is slow. Slower than cold molasses stuck in traffic. You're not always going to get eighty responses in an hour--hell, plenty of quests don't even break three votes in a full day. The good news is that this isn't a job and no one's going to flip their lid if you aren't updating every four seconds. Live your life, do chores, play games, read, draw, whatever... and if you're really itching to run your quest you can check in every few hours or so. Some players are in different Timezones, others have work or other obligations, especially during the weekends, and sometimes the board's just slow for inexplicable reasons. In short, don't throw in the towel because you haven't gotten a vote in an hour. Your quest isn't dead, it's not abandoned, and it certainly isn't bad either--just give it some time and stick with it. Not everyone can commit to 'session'-style quests which is why most of them aren't. You're not exactly running a D&D Session here, you're writing a story and checking in to see what people wanna do now and then.>>6373790Be consistent. Granted, most quests are gonna have players dip in and out, but as long as it's clear you're not going to flake and your quest isn't boring then you're bound to attract some more people! If it's a persistent problem, though, you might wanna look at the choices you're giving your voters--do they all blend together? Is there really one 'right' choice? Are the mechanics complicated for newcomers? There's a lot of possibilities, but nine times outta ten it's really just because you haven't been around long enough for people to 'settle in' yet. Sometimes you'll have stretches where you have a buttload of voters--sometimes you'll have stretches when you can barely wrangle up one.
>>6374007>>6374006>>6374005Thanks guys
>>6374010The average update rate seems to be around 1/day on /qst/, so that's how often a lot of players check in on threads. Unless you have an established playerbase that expects and can respond hourly or however fast you're running, you'll need to start slower and work your way up.

I am also like you in that sometimes I get itchy fingers and don't wanna wait for more votes to roll in, and so I may call it early or roll a die to break a tie, or even do an update on a single vote. Anons are chill with that generally, a lot of us just want something fun to read and to be able to steer the story when it's properly consequential. I've hit a bunch of slow spells recently though. >>6374213>>6374216Thank you for asking! And no, I usually don't have such a detailed or intricate background to naming my alien races. Most of the time I choose a name last, usually after drawing them and developing concepts for their technology and culture; picking something vaguely fitting in animal theme (Zaloons because of water birds called loons, Ixcee because they're fast, evasive little bug people like "pixie", etc.). I believe I shared this before but an earlier Monke plot point was that every alien race discovered had a double A in the name; which indicating they were under the control over the worms which matched the worms double A in their true name. This was even directly hinted to the players as the worms briefly called them "Jaaxtians" when you had a word envoy until Eoba II killed it. I also messed it up by including the "Baalathi" even though they ended up not even being a real species with worm involvement so it didn't make sense. I briefly remember considering it instead to be the marker of a race capable of FTL travel, which is why the Swall had one A (and would later be "Swaall" when they could travel FTL if left alone long enough) Howeve this didn't work either as it became too restrictive and samey for future names PLUS the Hazaar had already been introduced and explicitly couldn't travel FTL so I just dropped the whole thing. But it's interesting you mention the Hazaar in particular, as they actually did have their name developed from another word. But not a Persian word, just "Bazaar", since I always planned on having them be capitalistic, scummy street-peddlers-in-space types to contrast with the much more Communistic/Fascist/Planned Economy of the Hegemony. Earlier on in the quest there was also a much bigger emphasis on the conflict between the capitalist past of the Hegemony, including even having rich billionaires as a type of untouchable elite who would be like the descendants of billionaires from our time still kicking and causing problems. They were wrote out of the canon (and dwindling in number over time) as the Hegemony's authoritarianism began to be developed and stressed more.
>>6374239Oh, yes, the Blackspots. Are their any decedents of theirs still around, or were they unable to escape the genetic 'quality' purges/manipulations once stripped of their past wealth and status?

>>6374245>>6374254IIRC, the Blackspots were rounded up, sterilized, and demoted. Their last patriarch sold all his assets to avoid brutal execution after his brother staged a coup, and then became... >>6375014Why no die rolls? Not necessarily a criticism but curious about the choice to be strictly narrative. I think your writing is solid and your ideas are very big and multiplex in a way that is generally good for quests - there's a lot to wonder about and a lot I feel I may be anticipating and a lot of fanservice which I think anons here tend to enjoy a lot. I think maybe some of the votes don't feel they propel the story too much or give our character as much control over the narrative as others, but the updates still move the plot forward and continue to flesh out the - very expansive - world. It's too early for me to really give any big feedback or say that I have any gripes, and I am having a good time. Some anons may not like your high pace, but I think a lot of others will be stoked about it.

Do you make active efforts to tailor your output to what is "popular," or do you just do your own thing?I mostly do my own thing, but I try to consider what might be satisfying or infuriating in a story. If I think it's horseshit and wouldn't want to read a story where it happens, I try not to inflict it on my players.

What are some good indicators that your quest is doing well?
>>6375882Active discussion is the best sign, imo. Even over pure raw votes. If people care enough about the details of what's going on to argue about what to do, or to plan for the future, that's a sign they're invested. I think a quest with 4 players who actively discuss with each other over what to do has a healthier player base than a 8 voter quest where everyone either +1s another vote or wordlessly copy pastes one of your options. I'd also say people proposing write ins is also a good sign, since that means they care enough about what's going on to even bother writing in to begin with.

>>6375898>>6375911Yea, what H&H said. Reading stuff is what's going to give you tools for your 'toolbelt', be they ways to write realistic dialogue, descriptions, or actions. Books are a great source of inspiration, of course, but whether you can curl up with one or not I would also recommend taking a look at the catalog itself.Peruse some quests! If you like how they're written, try to figure out what, exactly, makes them so enjoyable to read. If you aren't a fan, consider what turns you off. If you're really struggling for material, you can always ask around here for some recommendations--we have a pretty lively archive with a LOT of old quests on it! At the very least reading other quests can also give you an idea of how other folks format their stuff, how they write dialogue, and a few other tricks. Someone mentioned dicerolls earlier--they aren't necessary, per se, but adding an element of randomness to a quest can definitely make it more interesting. Sometimes failure is more conductive to storytelling than success is!Writing is like a muscle--it'll take a while to get back into shape if you haven't used it for a long time. That said, reading is a good way to 'stretch' it too, but what qualifies as a good read is subjective, so having a vague idea of what you enjoy is always worthwhile.
Hey all, it's me, back with another review. This time, in a cynical attempt to get the QM to go back to running it, it's Concrete Stratosphere!Concrete Stratosphere is set in a potentially post apocalyptic dystopian future, where all of society as we know it is sequestered in the Panopolis, a colossal multi-tiered city built to house, feed, and maintain order over (presumably) the remainder of the human race. The Panopolis has 5 levels, from the ghettos of Level 5 ruled by a darwinian ‘punk culture’ to the mysterious Level 1, where whatever or whoever manages the city's government resides. In this caste based world, (you) play as Max Montagu, an ordinary citizen of L5 that longs to be a HERO.That's right, CS, despite (or perhaps because) of its dystopian sci fi setting is, for all intents and purposes, a Superhero quest. The unremarkable Montagu secretly fights crime by night, using makeshift weaponry and a resourcefully assembled costume to transform himself into the Mask, a hooded vigilante who protects the weak from the punks of Level 5 (and eventually, beyond). The story, being an origin, has some flavor of Batman: Year One, with Max going through the training, trials, and tribulation necessary to become the city’s anonymous protector. That said, if you’re looking for a pure comic style superhero experience, you’ll also be disappointed. The story isn't just about the Mask’s vigilante crusade, it's as much if not more so about the Panopolis itself, how its system and systems like it can create apathy, corruption, and despair. It may not be as overtly political as Monke is, but it definitely has undertones of societal commentary. For the pros, CS is a considerably high effort quest, with consistent, charming illustrations, solid character work for its two main leads, and unique gameplay that takes advantage of the qst format (like the image deduction puzzles where you find clues in the drawings and use them to solve cases and gain advantages in later scenarios). The setting is interesting and well considered, and the superhero aspect is handled without the eye rolling subversion or incessant lampshading that so much capeshit media, both official and amateur, seems so eager to fall into these days.
>>6375948While the quest is fantastic, I obviously have a couple of nitpicks, as one will with anything. For one, I haven't found any of the villains particularly compelling. While I understand the need to keep things grounded to make Max’s crusade seem more strange, none of the major antagonists had the same gravitas that even street tier mob bosses from comics like the Kingpin or Black Mask do. While I can tell the QM tried to make them stand out, the fact is that a society where everyone basically looks the same (skin tone and hair wise especially), it's difficult to make truly iconic character designs, I think some time to flesh them out a bit more would have served the quest well. Also, while it definitely has less of his eccentricities than Monke does, CS is still a BananasQM quest, with the occasional trap option and negative interaction between him and the players being inevitable Most notably for the latter was the sub-weapon selection where the QM complaints shifted the course of the vote. The real drawback of Concrete Stratosphere, though, is simply a lack of time. The QM seems deadset on running at most two threads a year, with each level having 2 threads dedicated to it. As a result, you will not see the end of this quest until after this decade has already passed, possibly not until 2035. If you go back and read the (very short, very worth your time) archives, it is YOUR responsibility to browbeat bananas into running this quest so you can see the end of it before the site explodes.TL;DR, it's a great quest, go read it. It's only 3 threads long with tons of illustrations, so you can knock it out in a couple days. Still doing reviews upon QM request, just, uh, not as frequently.

>>6376115I've been reading it on-and-off. I like the art and the content thus far as well as the descriptions, but I think you need to offer more concrete choices. For example, the current vote's choices are:> Inspect and/or pick up something(s) (What?) (Can choose multiple times)> Head through the back door> Go back out to somewhere else (Refer to previous choices)> Do something else (Write In)These might be fine for someone who's been following along, but even then this is pretty vague. Doubly so because it's hard to pick out all the 'Interactables' from the text. For example, what if I voted to inspect the plates and cutlery? Is that conductive to our progress? Should I instead be focused on the food? When you cast such a wide net it makes it tricky for players to collaborate on a choice--in one of the best case scenarios, one person will vote and everyone else will just glob onto it to keep the ball rolling. In short, I know it's more work, but I'd recommend offering choices that are a bit more targeted--choices you KNOW will have some kind of impact. Not every choice has to drive things forward, of course, but poking players in the right direction can always help.Instead of >Inspect and/or pick up somethings (what)Maybe pick a few items and give some choices like:>Inspect the FOOD>Look at the BUG LIGHTBULB>Search the CABINET>Investigate something else (Write-In)This narrows the 'net' a little bit and helps players see what exactly they can deal with. Freedom is great--I LOVE freedom--but casting too wide of a net can throw players for a loop even if they've been following for a while.Lastly, going forward if you're aiming for a 'text adventure'-esque deal I would definitely make the interactables stand out more. Doesn't need to be a different text color, but even putting things like the CABINET in all caps can help players discern what they're working with.Keep it up, though--I'm liking it so far!>>6375948>>6375949Hell yea, man--always happy to see some reviews on the QTG! >What is Legend of Zuzo about? LoZ is heavily inspired by the Legend of Zelda franchise, of course, and that includes not just the video games but the Manga as well. The games are malleable and creative, always introducing new core mechanics or means of pushing the envelope in terms of gameplay - this differentiates them, entices players, but also is a way of reinforcing themes. The /quest/ version of these games, then, seemed to me something that should be able to really turn certain things on their head. The nature of a written /quest/ allows me to exponentially expand the 'open world' concept that is a consistent element of the games - in particular, Windwaker, Breath of The Wild, and Tears of The Kingdom. I also felt a need to create a story about an entirely new Hero of Legend, one that isn't constrained by all of the expectations of a Link incarnation, capable of taking advantage of the openness of the format to tell this story differently. With no game engine to worry about, I am also able to have a vast cast or much larger action sequences involving as many characters as I'd like. The lore and the mangas are able to allude to huge armies and heavily populated battlefields, but this isn't something the games can really handle mechanically. I was thinking about that and also the way these games depict a very noble kind of fairytale violence; it's bloodless, it's constant, it's genocidal often, it's ubiquitous and so necessary that there is rarely any dialogue about it at all. When there is, it's interesting. One recalls the old man in the cave handing Link a sword, a weapon of war, with hardly a thought. A sword is a curse, a burden, as certain comic depictions of that moment have suggested. So war seemed like the obvious core of the story. Not just 'a lot of monsters'. An army of monsters, mercenaries, and conquered or controlled tribes of people. Sieges. Big battlefield set pieces. P.O.W. camps. I felt that, with cannons already being canon in various games (Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess, etc), this would be a good place to introduce 'fire lances', and other early forms of firearm. In this way, Ganon's army is taking some definite inspiration from the industrialists and samurai of Princess Mononoke, and also the Fire Nation from A:tLA. Playing as a Sheikah, a tribe characterized by its loyalty to the throne, use of stealth, mastery of secrecy and dark magic, my mind went in a particular direction - the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time is explained/shown to have once been used to brutally torture and murder the kingdom's enemies. The Sheikah seemed to me a good representation for the CIA and suddenly The War on Terror was sitting at the table with me. I want to explore the normalization of violence, the reckoning we must do with the past to build our future, the place of truth in war, the power of a single person trying to be a hero, and a lot more. >Cont'd
>>6376484The Lens of Truth seemed a perfect first legendary item and really had me thinking about war journalism, whistleblowers, and even that Civil War movie that Alex Garland did. I'm interested to see how Zuzo uses it to dispel lies or confusion, which are ubiquitous in war. I am probably, gradually, going to introduce the kinds of moral dilemmas that are ever present in war, but which wouldn't have been appropriated for the mainline games. Zuzo isn't some Hylian incarnation of a perfectly noble hero. He is a Sheikah. He is a ninja homeland security agent. Will he rise above his tribe's past? Will he make hard choices to destroy his enemies and protect the innocent? Right now he is an adult only barely, and considers it honorable and glorious for him and his fellow teenagers to be deployed into combat. Not everyone is likely to feel the same on the mainland. Basically, LoZ is about using the advantages of this medium to see how much of the rewarding gameplay loops of the video games I can actually recreate, while also asking bigger questions about some of the implications of the setting's established lore once the lens is moved from and iconic hero to... Someone else, someone that resembles Link in a large number of ways, but who exists beyond him and already with the broader context of family members like Impa.
>What is After-Bloom about? After-Bloom is foremost about the existential and omnipresent horror of something fundamentally changing in a way we did not believe possible. What if tomorrow your wife looks you in the eye and says she has lost all patience for you and is filing a divorce, and will not speak to you directly ever again? What if you go to the doctor tomorrow and learn that you have bone cancer in your leg, it will be amputated, and if you are unlucky it will spread and you may die? What if your mother calls you and explains that your father has committed suicide using dynamite he purchased online? What if the sun set on the horizon and stopped moving, forever? A lot of pain comes from how we resist or deny change, especially change that is outside of our ability to control. We have constant anxiety about what could go wrong, paranoia about how much worse it could be, and dread about departures for the norm we simply cannot account for. After-Bloom is also about the ways we fail ourselves and others when we can't cope with these big changes. We are often cowardly, dishonest, and hostile in these kinds of situations. Oliver represents my own cowardice. But also my resourceful thinking and cleverness. Roy represents my dishonesty, denialism, and manipulative tendencies. But also my charity, my empathy, and my loyalty. Magda represents my deep self-loathing, constant anger, and self-righteous violence. She also reminds me of my resilience, and flexibility. I'm not as bad as the worst parts of these people, or as good as their best parts. But I have hidden from reality that I didn't want to deal with. I have lied to people I loved and people I hardly knew. I have physically hurt people because I was convinced it was justified, and because I was deeply angry about horrible things that were done to me when I couldn't protect myself and no one else wanted to. I think those admissions are true of most people to some degree. I think those dark parts of us thrive when we are in situations that scare us, that we don't understand, that we wish more than anything we could just avoid. But sometimes things just change, even when they aren't supposed to. When things go wrong, we have to try to do what's right. It's hard. It's scary as hell. But it's worth it. That's what I want After-Bloom to be about. And like, mystery and survival-horror and intrigue, too. Visceral action sequences. Regret. Loss. Inspired by so much like TWD (more the first six seasons of the show), Jurassic Park (moreso the book), Dog Soldiers, I Am Legend, The Last of Us, Seven Psychopaths, Primal, Aniara (the book and the movie), and Altered States to just list shit right off the dome.

>>6376492>"deep self-loathing">"CONSTANT ANGER">"...flexibility...??" (think about this, the posture the poses)>"PHYSICALLY HURT PEOPLE"To reconcile the warring tumult within this temperament whilst preserving the necessary dignity of comportement and demeanour, it is recommended to explore bdsmBut I actually regret a bit my previous rants about how ALL GAMES ARE TRAUMA all Art is communicating grievance ie a form of fictional self-rectification, internalised cathartic self-therapy consolation etc. I feel like goths in the 90s fully explored this and nowadays there is just the wellness wellbeing industry, if you read Granta magazine or modern publisher literary fiction it is just endless women wailing rape, maybe there is more to understanding narratives in the world than just investment management and EpsteinIdeally it is better to recognise that the self is not really that relevant, this is sort of epitomised by 4chan, anonymity, ephemerality etc all posts are eventually (pseudo) publicly deleted, it is like buddhism (I am not buddhist) but they do say the tenets of that philosophy are, 1/ No self (ie, no soul etc)2/ No permanence (ie nothing lasts)3/ ONLY SUFFERING (can call this struggle / conflict / hardship)which is interesting to contrast with the overarching all-pervasive Judaeo Christian eschatological worldbuilding perspective. I recommend reading this essay which explains how TS Eliot viewed literature:https://www.poetryfoundation.org/articles/69400/tradition-and-the-individual-talentThe idea is that the author should abnegate their own individual trauma / grievance indulgence / catharsis hunger, and "self-sacrifice" this to the greater goal of communicating "the tradition", ie acting as a conduit for the phenomenon of Art. It is not really about the personality or self-biographical idiosyncrasies of the author etc. (as this will inevitably alienate or be found unappealling by some portion of his audience). Games genre fiction and ttrpgs in particular make it very easy to recognise "the tradition", as you cited, most will know and recognise the films books and worlds you mentioned, constituting the canonical body of work that came before. It is easy tp get a bit mystical about this, TS Eliot envisioned this as a sort of intertemporal transmission of generational heritage. At the same time, I do believe all fiction and rpgs are enriched by embedding NON FICTIONAL personal experiences, if for nothing else merely for the resonance and emotional intensity. Somewhere a balance may be found between the depersonalised and the confessional approaches

>>6376511I was half-wondering half-anticipating if I wrote about my quests in that sort of way (essay adjacent while stoned and bored and avoiding sleep) that it might summon you, Souv. As per usual, I really don't care for the way you project sexuality onto the stories I am telling - I think if you had more context you'd probably realize bringing up BDSM in this way is frankly kind of gauche. This is kinda funny, because while I disagree with your broad premise that stories are about trauma, LoZ partially is, and After-Bloom hugely is (I think most good post-apoc fiction is, to some degree, about the pattern of traumatic experience). I would've expected you to rant a bit more about that. AB is, to some degree, me doing a bit of therapy on myself, even, as I give legs to some of these things I don't like about myself and allow players to prod them in different directions. I definitely agree that stories, especially if this type, are enriched by our real world experiences - both as QM's and voters putting together Write-ins. My best stuff is influenced directly by real exchanges I have had and experiences I have had big part of why a lot of the characters I write are criminals or mentally ill or grieving etc. My second best stuff is influenced by media I have taken in and really paid attention to. Everything else is just connective tissue for those first two things, mainly. Souv, do you play in either of my quests?
>>6376573Why are you responding to it
>>6376574First time more than a sentence of one of his posts made real sense and felt constructive to discussion, since I got here. I think when people analyze my work in a way that feels really off base for me, it elicits a strong reaction because it feels personal - especially here where I am stating explicitly what parts of this story feel personal for me in the first place, yaknow? When a poster like Souv, who I generally find to be kind of a bad sport or abrasive at best and flatly offensive sometimes at worst, has a seemingly real interest in what I am working on (with that post alone he has done more discussing AB than the majority of the players, after all, even if I dont like all of what he is saying), I find that pretty curious. I can't tell if he skimmed it or has been voting, and I guess that also makes me curious about what kind of players I have drawn in with that story. It's the first quest I have had where a player showed up and was frequently rude to others and myself to such a degree that it disrupted the thread and I had to ask them to chill out, strangely the first quest I have run (and in many ways the least political by far???) where multiple people felt a need to clarify what their politics were like, unprompted, to contextualize why they did not approve of a female MC. So the ideological and personality makeup of After-Bloom players has become pretty fascinating to me, too, on its own.
>>6375949nice review, thank you for the recommendation-- have been looking for some shorter quests to read as of lateif you're short on possible reviews, I'd be happy with a Wayward Cosmos review once the quest is doneany players who are here: god willing there'll be an entry tonight. >>6376511> the personality or self-biographical idiosyncrasies of the author etc. (as this will inevitably alienate or be found unappealling by some portion of his audience)Kek, ain't that the truth... I am surprised by how people on even 4chan have become so hostile to the unusual or strange at times.>>6376484>>6376492As someone who personally finds the idiosyncrasies and personalities shining through the work to be the main selling point of /qst/, I really appreciate the creative insight. If I wanted an impersinal but polished product, I'd watch or play a mainstream big budget studio production. I think these disparate blends of personal angst, personal fixations, and unique influences and interests are what make the best quests so good.
I wanna run something related to street racing. But looking up TTRPG racing systems they all seem either too crunchy for a collective game or too simple to be interesting (doesn’t leave any room for tuning your car or anything) has anything similar ever been run? Either as a full quest concept or just as a oneoff scene in a larger quest. Just wanna see something that works okay that I can maybe tweak around.
