Not particularly, no. I run what I want to run and it has worked out well enough for me. I don't think trend chasing is worthwhile here considering the smaller playerbase. Maybe if we were talking about akun or RR, maybe, but I don't see the point.
I think trend chasing would only matter in a context where you'd make money off it, and there's like one dude on here who makes any money off of it. He only makes $13.85 a month.

It's about the characters for me. The setting is important, yes, but interesting character dynamics are always going to be easier for me to get invested in. Dark Quest is an example of an active quest that I really like the characters of.

I'm sort of academically interested in /qst/ trends, but in the end I can only run what I'm excited to run and enjoy running. Why else bother? As Handler said, we do it for free.

It's usually the setting or premise that hooks me, the characters that keep me, and the rest can be whatever as long as they're not so bad they interfere with me enjoying what I'm there for.

I was brewing up ideas for a kind of '/qst/io Kart' Tourney thing, but it's always tricky balancing mechanics for those kinds of events. Quest threads last for like three months now. It'd better be a long trend or fad to be worth it on its own, and for the time investment alone, it's best for it to be something with not only staying power but a personal attachment to the concept.

The setting and world and its movement are what matter most to me, the ability of characters to move through the plot, or interact with each other, though admittedly very few settings actually appeal to my narrow interests range.

There's always enough if you cast the net wide enough. I don't know if the support needed to widen that net is readily available though, at bare minimum the qms have to be willing to participate in the rounds themselves.

I never +1 because it's not something I appreciate myself. I know sometimes people feel like they don't really have much to add, but whenever a vote is cast like that it's really hard to know how they even feel about the choice, if anything.

I do a bit, definitely. The way I launched After-Bloom was directly influenced by answers to questions I asked in the previous /qtg/, after having folded my Changeling quest due to low player engagement that made it feel like more of a chore to take care of than a game to play. A big part of my enjoyment as a QM comes from getting to describe scenes and characters and explore ideas I have, and I have a LOT of ideas - but another huge part of it is engagement from my players. Speculation, discussion, banter, just shooting the shit a little here and there, stuff like that. I really like the social aspect of these games, it'd be why I prefer this format to just penning fanfiction or writing a novel. I've already worked professionally as a writer, and don't have anything to prove there. But if I have only one or two people being entertained by what I am doing here, and I am only getting the minimal entertainment of something that low-key, I feel an urge to move towards one of my (many) other ideas to perhaps entertain a higher number of people, and generate more engagement and entertainment for myself.

I don't care about art at all for this stuff, I mean if it's good then that rules, but I would play a quest with only text. I don't care too much about game mechanics either. Good prose and good FORMATTING matter a lot, though. I won't name names, but some quests here are challenging for me because the writing is too densely formatted, and the grammar/diction is harder for me to follow or get into. I care a lot about the quality of characters and narratives also, stuff with meaning, characters with depth, I just won't bother if I can't find some real meaning somewhere.

I wanna add to my answer above that I wouldn't try to confirm to genre or theme preferences, or certain proclivities like the frequent fixation with waifus. I am glad to be running a fantasy adventure quest, I am enjoying it a lot, but my heart is always going to be more with horror, Southern gothic, and mystery, which I usually dress up with survival/post-apoc, cyberpunk, or some other elements to keep it feeling fresh. I think those things on the whole are less popular around here.

I also want to add that I am experimenting a lot with mechanics, sequencing, and puzzles as I run LoZ, and see what can gel with a format that hinges on democratic engagement, slow pace, written updates. When I run into a wall, and it seems that a way of doing something isn't fun for me and the players, or even is just detracting from the story we are trying to tell, I shelve it and wait for the next opportunity to try something. My other quest, on the other hand, is relying on the tried and true 1d100 BO3, which I've learned to use in the two other quests I have run. I doubt I will do any tinkering there because I want it to be more narrative focused.

In 2021 and 2024, people here ran some board events where QMs and players got together to vote/roll/argue about who should be /qst/'s top waifu or husbando or king/queen when I did it, because I wanted characters that were cool for non-romance reasons to be able to join in, too

Continuous and YayW are good shouts. Sloucho's Legend of Zelda quest is a VERY good idea to check out if you're missing The Fall of Hyrule. Umbral Tower even stars a lone Sheikah-tribe guy as its protag, sort of like where Matthias ended up before we switched perspective to the Hylian royal family.

Post-Apoc has a pretty big base here, I think. I see popular quests in that sort of sphere crop up and stick around fairly often. I REALLY like 'Old West' and horror quests myself, so if you do one of those, expect me to join in.

Sorry for not getting back to my quest, RobotQM. I've just been burnt out with college leading straight into wageshittery directly after graduating, as well as personal health problems getting more frequent, and then other life events happening that are affecting me very negatively. I thought graduating would solve all my problems, but unfortunately life is more complicated.

That being said, I'm very glad you've enjoyed my quest as well, and, while I'm not very happy about leaving the story unconcluded, I'm simply not in a good frame of mind at all.


However, I *have* improved at art as well, and I do agree Clip Studio is GOATed for making cool OC art :)

I'm glad you enjoyed my quest so much. It's nice to know so many found it interesting and the effort in building the world of Avalon was so well received.

I haven't read the Digimon quest. I've been following Silver Knight avidly.

I don't think I have the time to spare for going back to my older magical girl quest. As I said, there's a lot of background things happening while Haruka goes off doing her own things. The world is made more dynamic and much more unexpected but it also is far more work.

Generally not, but I do somewhat take into consideration how fun or feasible something would be in the format. I love mysteries, but I couldn't think of a good, satisfying way to make a whodunnit style quest fun without getting boring or repetitive. I also made the executive decision to drop Escape the Maw since it wasn't getting all that many votes and I was already stretched pretty thin running Olympus.

Depends on the quest. Each one inhabits an entirely different genre with a different set of draws and appeals. If I'm readinf Versequest or Downerquest (come back story please) I'd be most taken by the complex character work and really impressive depictions of mental unwellness. If I'm reading Drowned, I'm taken by the prose and dialogue, and if I'm reading Solstice, I can't help but admire the absolutely insane 3d animation work the QM does.

That said, generally across my various works under various names, people tend to get a lot more excited about ky writing than my art. Could just be because I'm more skilled at writing, but my intuition is that that's just the general preference of the board.

Drowned Quest is a short-lived quest that ran from January through April 2019. It followed a guy who drowned in the post-post-apocalyptic ocean, then woke up on the seafloor with glass lungs and a copy of himself in his head. He then went through a string of harrowing, mostly improvised adventures before the whole thing got dropped unceremoniously because it kind of sucked.

Not really. I tend to do my own thing although if I see something interesting in someone else’s quest I might add it to my setting and story (assuming that it fits).

Interesting characters and plots. Then prose. Then setting and world. The most memorable parts of quests I played tend to have interesting dialogue or prose. Kaz’s Tales of Tatamu prologue fight and Elf Maiden 3’s baron’s heart attack & gold heart transplant as an example.

This may sound shallow, but I'm more than likely going to overlook your quest if it's not in a setting I'm not only familiar with, but find appealing. For example, I know what Touhou is, but I would never play in a Touhou quest simply because I don't find it that appealing as a setting. In that regard, you'd have a higher chance of reeling me in with an entirely new setting.
However, in my experience, my list of priorities gets completely reversed as time goes on and I keep reading a quest. While I won't say this is universal among other players and readers, I know I'm not the only one this applies to. If the characters we're interacting with aren't that interesting and the actual writing is flat and grammatically abhorrent, I find it much harder to keep up with a quest even if it does have a good setting and premise.

I think there's enough activity and good enough candidates, yeah.
I would nominate Chilli, Son of Karn, first Saiyan Archmage, former Reaper of Jergal, loving husband, and father of 2 (and counting) from Saiyan Conqueror Quest. People seemed to like his older sister and father well enough last year, and I think Chilli has more than distinguished himself from them in terms of history, personality, and ability enough to be a novel candidate for King.
As for my Queen nomination, I'd nominate The Lady in Red, from Gotham City Beat Cop quest. She does a lot for her sons, even if she can never truly interact with most of them. Also the whole flapper girl aesthetic in tandem with her unknowable metaphysical entity gimmick is fairly interesting.

Hello! I'm... still alive, technically!

So: I've been quiet on Pokepocalypse, mainly because my luck is still legendarily abysmal, but I do still plan on bringing it back this month. I'm considering bringing it back this weekend (possibly earlier; I've got a light amount of work this week and only one exam the next), but I'm split between jumping right back into Pokepocalypse and doing a one-shot first.

I know that's maybe a bit blasphemous, and I'm aware of the temptations some QMs get to ditch their long-running quests for endless one-shots instead, but I have to admit that I think it might do me some good. I've written basically nothing but Pokepocalypse for nearly a year and a half now (almost straight, if we're including background work), and I think it's giving me a bit of tunnel vision. I feel like I'm starting to flanderize my cast, Steele especially, and it's messing up my priorities something fierce. My thinking is that, with a one-shot, I'll get some practice QMing while simultaneously stretching my creative muscles in a way that doesn't entail affecting the main quest. It'll also make for a change of scenery, which I've been missing more than I'd like to admit (as much as I enjoy plumbing the depths of history for cool factoids about the 1880s, it's somewhat irritating to have to constantly confirm whether any given modern comfort exists by 1884), and possibly help attract new players to Pokepocalypse by detaching my writing from an IP that's garnered something of a reputation as of late.

Therefore, I am here to ask /qtg/ for opinions! Very important opinions. Opinions I shall coagulate into some kind of answer by, hopefully, this Friday.

If I were to return to questing this weekend, and do it through an unrelated oneshot, would you prefer:

is somewhat how my priorities went. I'm very picky, so I probably wouldn't read any quest that didn't have at least two of these attributes. It's also important that the mechanics of the quest aren't convoluted/are easy to pick up and understand, because I generally do not want to devote a huge amount of time to learning a system no matter the quality of a thread. It's a huge reason why I stay away from all civ threads and most game-focused threads, and part of why I tend to keep my one quest (and likely any future ones) rather mechanics-light.
Waifu/husbando importance is negative. I want to care for the characters, not imagine myself fucking them. If waifu qualities overlap with sympathetic qualities, then so be it. I'm pretty sure Arty was meant mostly as a waifu, but I found myself caring for her as a character so it didn't matter.

God, I hope so. I'm hesitant to say whether it does or does not, because I haven't kept up with it for around a month now, but last I saw it really wasn't doing too well. Any tourneys that went up would probably last a week minimum with how quiet the board seems to be.

There were other characters yes but all popular characters have already participated. This might not be a problem in other boards where they've got thousands of characters with dozens of new ones every year, but here, it'd just be a re-do of the most popular quests.

I was honestly considering some smaller monster-catching franchises (namely Fossil Fighters or MH Stories), but they generally do not have enough to work with. I'm unfamiliar with Medabots completely, so I doubt running a quest based around it would go very well. It might also have a similar problem of not really having enough material. The only reason I'm even able to run a Pokémon quest is because of extended media + the odd setting keeping a lot of the less coherent aspects out of sight and mind.
As for capeshit: an original setting would probably need more than one thread to work, but I'll consider it regardless.

(What exactly is Tremors? I've never heard of it, and search engines are being obtuse about specifics. Just bringing up geological phenomena and medical symptoms.)

To me this seems like the easiest and most obvious to quantify objectively - which character tends to have really bad luck, versus which tends to have good luck, measured by their literal dice rolls. I have seen quests where the MC racked up a string of successes and critsz and ones where they fumble and fail (forwards and backwards) with consecutive crit fails and low rolls. It'd be cool to get together and figure out who has the worst run of it, and best, in that regard. I am sure there are quests I don't play in that would surprise me with their dice, yaknow?

I don't see why not, at the end of the day people would be voting and could choose for themselves how they weigh actual dice failures with adverse effects. Some QM's, after all, aren't always very generous with big/crit successes, and others are creative about failures in order to keep the narrative on track or because they are running a lighter story. I'd burn that bridge when I crossed it.

And yeah, I think if we have a category for characters that are Nasty Evil Bastard Fucks we should deliberate on who is Wholesome Pure And Kind - and I think plenty of the 'waifus' here are actually hostile or malicious, and this would make space for characters like kids/animals/old people/etc that aren't lusted after, exactly, but are still really liked.

I will say it's sensible to have differing categories specifically for that reason. Not all characters are applicable for all contests. Sometimes a character is really well written, but they are not a character anyone actually likes because of it. So they would never win a popularity contest, but they very well may win a "I want to stab this person in the heart eighteen times" competition. Some characters are just goofy little whatsits that are fun but not really engaging enough to win a contest against characters written by seasoned writers, but they might win a "I want to protect it's smile" competition. To dispense of the hyperbole and melodrama, variety of categories allows for more thoughtful entries.

So the deal is, I'm a mobilefag phone poster, because my job keeps me on my feet most of the time. But I have space/time to think/write/read when I am not actively busy on a call with caseworkers/orgs or doing crisis de-escalation.

I don't think there's any hard and fast rule about eligibility criteria, since we've only even had two tournaments and the tourney-runners (me included) kind of made it up as we went. For mine, I'd said that a quest should have had at least three threads, or have completed (so one-shots were eligible as long as they had a proper ending). I just didn't want it clogged by quests that were flashes in the pan. Nowadays, threads last a lot longer, though, so your 200-post criteria makes sense, too. I also really like your cateories, and I had personally been toying with the idea of others like "Most likely to [X]", "Scariest", "Cutest", "Sexiest", "Most Stylish", "Smelliest", "Strongest", stuff like that. Just to give runners up a few amusing titles under their belt and encourage participation and recognition more broadly!

As a participating QM in your tourney, it was a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend/engage with the same rules, no previous entrants allowed and maybe different categories. I think that /qst/io kart thing that someone mentioned earlier this thread had some merit, but who wants to tardwrangle an entire board of autists who will lose their shit when their candidate of choice loses miserably? It's happened at least once every tournament (well, not really the husbando tournaments. Those are substantially more chill).

There's no real foolproof way around vote fraud. it's the price we pay for anonymity. I usually only discount 1post IDs when they would swing a vote, and usually afford some lenience with a trip or backlink. I've found it seems to deter the most egregious samefags. People say it doesn't work, and I know there are ways to get a couple extra votes out of it if you're dedicated and have multiple static IPs you can access, but I think the idea that it does nothing is a little overstated and fatalistic.

I technically do have something ready to go, but I'm likely going to keep whatever original quest I do short by means of premise. Something without a huge expansive world or lots of potential. Otherwise I'd risk not one-shotting the one-shot, which defeats the purpose, and possibly abandoning Poképocalypse in favor of it. If I used what I have ready to go, that would definitely incur such a possibility. Therefore, I'm probably saving that for after Poképocalypse is done.

Might be. The main concern there is communicating those rules to new players and lapsed questgoers alike in a succinct and understandable manner. That might be just as, if not more, difficult than simply looking up historical factoids and throwing them into the mix.
I'm not even all that annoyed by the constant looking-up of things-- it just tends to wear on you after so long doing it. All these constant little breaks in proofreading and drafting where you have to make sure you're not breaking with the timeline. There'll be fewer of them as time goes on, especially as inventions are likely sped up and the world becomes significantly more alien due to the *everything,* but the constant urge to slip in some modern comforts for the sake of quicker writing can end up ever-present at its worst. Death by a thousand papercuts.

Anyways: I made a countdown for this stuff as a reminder (and because I remembered about timezones a little too late). When this countdown hits 1 day, I'll close the poll. I should have something up by the time it reaches 0. (If not, please harass me plentifully through whatever means you can.)

Well, kind of.

For the thing I want to do after Poképocalypse, it's definitely scifi. Probably moreso soft scifi than hard, if only because I am retarded and cannot into science very well (even when I try ;-;), but somewhat definitively scifi. Technically post-apocalypse, too, but post-post-post-post apocalypse to the point where I'm not sure it'll ever even come up.

For whatever original thing I come up with for the weekend, assuming I don't cheap out and just appropriate the aforementioned setting, I'm split between either pure mundanity or possibly surrealistic fantasy. The latter is maybe less likely than the former, if only because I doubt I'll be satisfied doing that without providing accompanying visuals, but both are vague handwaves in the direction of possibility.

It'll probably be easier for me to be more definitive tomorrow; it's late here and I'm not in the best headspace. But the general idea is something along these lines.

A GOOD fantasy quest is something that I dread may never come about. Certainly not by my hand. 'Tis too rare a treasure for the common anon to chance upon, let alone the ever-rarer /qst/anon. Only the most wisened and knowledgeable scholars of the genre may attempt such feats, and rarely may they ever succeed.

Hey dude. Sorry for disappearing after giving an estimated time and thanks for still remembering the quest. The plan was to go on a trip to Himalayas and then, fresh and with some ideas in mind, return. That was many months ago, maybe a year? But instead I returned even lazier, imagine! As it usually goes, the longer one waits, the harder it becomes to return. At this point, I'm not sure if I even remember enough about the characters or the world to continue and do it right, or if my prose didn't deteriorate. And I had shamefully left so many quest unfinished compared to the only one I did finish, that I don't trust myself to start a new quest. I've found the BCQ & Sworn to Valour verification system to strike the best balance between a minor extra step for players that has done pretty well to shield against the rampant samefagging that plagued a few of the Sworn to Valour votes.


In short, the first vote of the thread is open for 24 hours from posting. Anyone can vote on that opening (I usually have the vote relate to fluff options or another POV viewpoint rather than anything critical to the MC). After that all future votes need to link back to the original vote (I personally don't care if their ID hasn't changed, but anons linking back to their OG vote helps me verify the vote quicker and get writing).

Allowing necowmers after this first vote is discretionary, and on a goodwill basis. I typically don't allow the newcomers vote for -that- first vote of their to count, but future ones will.

The system isn't foolproof, but it does prevent fairly contentious or critical votes being flooded by a samefag. A dedicated enough samefag could probably work around it by spamming the initial opening vote, but it'd be obvious they were samefagging important votes unless they consistently voted in tandem with their original votes for the entire thread.

Armloser might not last, but I sure do find it kinetic and charming... I like WC's QM even though I'm not that into Pokepocalypse, so I trust that it will be good even though it seems very peculiar! Everything else on my list is on solid footing, reliable, high quality. Awesome stuff happening in Dark and Silver Knight, been enjoying the wind down on Cambion a lot!

There are several ways to cope I know from experience and from the other people I know. Other drugs such as alcohol and the classic of taking it out on the customer if you are in service and if not take it out on the company by doing petty misdemeanors like stealing pens or taking 10 minutes extra break for example.

Somewhat, I don't want to run something nobody is going to play but I mean that quite literally. The only thing that will stop me from running something is if I think the idea isn't strong enough to sustain itself and people's attentions. But then again, most of the stuff I want to write about is exploring other settings and adding to them in my own ways. It gave me very intense 'The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger' vibes. I enjoy that same depth in characters especially when an author manages to give them a 'voice' that feels real. Lamplighter, Naruto: Feeling Blue, etc. Draw-Quests are also extremely charming to me. Basically; anything where the effort of the author is visible through the medium.

I liked the idea shared further up about a tourney for quest villains/antagonists. I think heroes and waifus get a lot of shine time in and out of threads but a good villain can really hold a story together. This of course means I have to suck my own dick a bit and say I'd enjoy seeing how The SIM Killer stacks up against other board ne'er-do-wells.

Underworld that is barely established, a frontier that is being developed on the ashes of the natives' afterlife, at the same time as the frontier of the living world, was such a unique concept to work on. There were many things I world-build that I didn't have the right time to mention or add, as the story wasn't at the right place yet. Shame.

Wow, all three of my unfinished quests would at least have a reader each if I were to return. That's reassuring. I had mentioned before that "the Alien and the Drunkard" was the one I hoped and wish to return to the most, but from a different angle, with the same core concept, and I think it's the one I will attempt to. I do not know how healthy /qst/ is as a board right now, but hopefully there are enough people. Stay tuned.

Obviously the setting, actual mechanics & story, and everything else could vary tremendously but I still feel like a generic fantasy adventurer quest would be fundamentally very similar to my ongoing Concrete Stratosphere Quest. It'd be like running a second civ at the same time as Monke, which I don't really want to do.

I think that's so generic and broad a category of progression -- seen in almost every shonen martial arts story, sword-and-sorcery, and superhero story -- that it's not worth dwelling on. There is a tremendous appetite for variations on the basic formula, and the unique appeal comes less from how the hero confronts his foes (usually directly, face-to-face and mano y mano, because it's better for drama than sniping or scrying an unwitting opponent from a mile away) than who the hero and villain are, why they're fighting, what they stand to win or lose, what their world is like, etcetera.

Setting, supporting cast, particular elements of the local power system, and customization options for things like type of power-ups and preferences in technique and method make a way bigger impact than anything else. If that wasn't the case, people would only read a single superhero comic series rather than following multiple, or only play one RPG starring a heroic swordsman, but that of course isn't the case; when people like that basic idea and find it cool, they often like to experience many variations on that basic premise.

I think the basic familiarity does a lot to ground expectations, which can then be directed, shaped, subverted, or played into as you and the players desire.

Some historians believe that the Greeks pretty much nailed down every possible twist, plot, and resolution in their theatrical works--you can see these parallels in pretty much almost all fiction ranging from Shakespeare to modern day sitcoms.

It's easy to get bogged down by how similar your ideas can be to others, but what sets them apart, quests included, is exactly what you mentioned: the story, setting, characters, etc.

Similarities are always going to be around--that's just the nature of the beast. Which is why it's up to the author, creator, etc to make the artpiece their own, whether that means adding an extra tree in the watercolor painting or giving a certain personality to the random innkeeper depends on them.

In short, no, it doesn't really bother me--quests themselves are pretty formulaic, but they're made unique by the people who play and run them. Adding those little details, even the smallest, are what makes the whole process fun!

I'm taking a break and toying with options, but aside from a big epic fantasy war-and-politicking quest starring an (Anti?)Paladin Prince and possibly a Dragon Princess engaged in essentially crusades, colonialism, and fending off a terrifying semi-nomadic orc-horde, I'm also considering a quest to run before that. The main ideas I'm toying with right now are:

>Half-Orc Quest
A half-human half-orc character has shamed herself by letting her younger brother die, and has charged off into the frigid far north to find death or honour.

>Dark Mage Quest
A young mage gets drafted into the war efforts of a fantastical quasi-African empire due to their talent as a student of The Black Tower, the premier centre for demonology, metallurgy, and enchanted weapon production

>Cryptid Quest
Set in a more mundane "real world" setting, starring an amateur film crew filming a horror flick when actual(?) supernatural events seem to occur in the area.

>Kanto: The Land of Poison
A Pokemon quest starring a conservation-worker in a Kanto region that is suffering ecological collapse under an overabundance of Poison-type Pokemon and pollution.

I'm not sure which, if any, of these I'll do, but I'm taking non-binding votes to gauge interest.

Futas don't exist in real life, but I don't think I'd necessarily put in a trans or intersex character for the sake of it. Tbh, I'm not very confident writing an actual trans character in-depth; CZ's intersex anatomy and profound displeasure with her body for this and other reasons was thematically central to Cambion Quest and to her character, but was so fantastical and supernatural that I didn't feel any pressure to portray it sensitively or realistically. With an actual person in something meant to resemble the real world, I'd feel... Weird about it. Gender dysphoria isn't something I've ever experienced or really relate to, after all.

"Futas" of some sort appearing are a possibility, as it would be in the same world as my other quests. There, demons are sexless beings of pure desire, and True Fey are generally hermaphroditic aliens whose mortal descendants (like elves) are often androgynous and produce intersex individuals at a higher proportion than humans do. The main character would be a human, though, so unless players overwhelmingly voted fro them to be transgender or soemthing with a write-in, I have no plans to go that route. It certainly wouldn't be a central crux of the character's arc -- I don't want to repeat myself too much.

It's a setting element I stand by for a lot of somewhat pretentious reasons I won't get into in detail, but mainly in that a lot of my setting is "conspiracy and esotericism lore plus D&D" and having androgynous alien grey aliens and succubi who are also sometimes incubi works well with that, plus the whole transhumanism angle often explores the subject. I'm very glad I didn't chicken out of running a quest with a protagonist like CZ, even knowing it would be a barrier to some people playing, and I quite enjoyed that year and a half or so of writing. I'm not a great artist and don't claim to be, but I don't think any satisfying art (even amateurish low art like what I do) comes from avoiding being cringe.

To give my two cents even though nobody asked for it, I think it's not an absurd thing for demons to have elements of both sexes in thir physique. I personally don't really like it as a setting detail, but it is actually pretty well based in daemonology. Baphomet, for example, is almost always depicted as at once masculine and feminine.

That said, I think there's an important distinction between goetian bimorphosm and chicks with dicks. If someone just looks like an ordinary woman with a cock and not a freakish unholy amalgam of the masculine and feminine in all respects, I'm always skeptical that it's a fetish thing justified by apocrypha and not necessarily a true homage to the sources in question.

In the short time I have been here I've seen anons spazz about your quest having fetish material in it and generally being weirdly puritanical about it all.
I played Cambion anyways, and there was sexual stuff in there that I didn't personally find interesting - but it was definitely far from the graphic, grotesque, 'cringe', whatever I saw people complaining about in the /qtg/, and I do have lines in the sand around that stuff - I really don't care for Devil & Instructress Quest, for example, because of the prevalence of sexual violence and taboo themes.
All that to say, I think just having a character that's intersex/hermaphroditic is enough to really piss some people off on this site these days, and make others just disengage. Which feels like a real shame, back in the day 4chan became relevant at all because of its being hospitable to outsiders with weird interests, strange ideas, and limited filters. Over time the politics of the whole site have shifted from libertarian to authoritarian in really noticeable ways, and it's really stifled the variety and boldness of ideas in regrettable ways - I've bitched about this before, though not in so many words. It was horrible seeing mtg threads on /tg/ gradually go from friendly discussion to flame wars and meltdowns about whatever nonbinary card WotC decided to print.
Idk man I'm rambling but I'm so embarrassed for how fragile some anons are about shit like that, or even just characters being black or being women at all bitching a bit about my own recent experience with After-Bloom in the latter case; as much as I love the enthusiasm of some of those chud-anons, I don't care for people bringing their blinders and baggage into *my* story. Just have a good time or read something else!

I got a lot of respect for you not being a coward about something people are so sensitive about. I also respect you knowing your limits there and not having a drive to write more characters like that just because you already have. I did my best to make monstrous moments monstrous, but I wasn't SOLELY drawing on Christian traditions or negative depictions, and I do find it amusing to reference fetish stuff, so I don't know where I landed on that. In this quest and the last, there was a lot of "malleability of self" stuff from transhumanism, and in Cambion especially a lot of orientalism in keeping with the New Age occultism and UFO cult stuff I like to draw on, where beyond between or beyond male and female can also be a good or neutral thing. I'm not against people finding a character sexy or whatever, but I think even people who didn't like my quest would agree that the character in question mostly had a bad time while she was hermaphroditic, and her situation wasn't presented as very ideal. It was ultimately a quest about a party of freaks, monsters, and outcasts.

I stand by my past assessment of the actual content of Schiz's quests, in that I don't think he gets off on the violent content in that sense... But I admit that sexual violence against children (as seems to be implied) is something that viscerally grosses me out. Good stories can still exist with thsoe implications (Nightmare on Elm Street, Berserk, and dark comedy like South Park on the one end of yhe spectrum, something like Hard Candy or Beasts of No Nation on the more serious/solemn end) but it's a really fine line to walk. Villain protagonists enacting it would be something more extreme than anything I've read in a Schiz quest yet, and that level of overt cruelty to that specific sort of target is an aspect that might be a bit of a breaking point for my ability to enjoy it. Well again, I'd say that having read most of his quests, I've found there's relatively little actual description of the sexual or violent aspects. I wouldn't characterize the stuff I've read by him as pornographic. I don't know if I missed a quest somewhere, but nothing I've read by him has had any overt descriptions of kids having sex, and while abortion and contraception are running themes, it's never really been described in a fetishistically detailed way. On top of that, I talk to him about non-qst stuff and I would describe him as being extremely anti-rape more broadly, so I don't actually think it's likely he is a dangerous or depraved person so much as just edgy and interested in taboo themes. Yes, he's run quite a few good quests and is a pretty good artist, though he gets frustrated quite readily and sometimes flakes or quits early. He also likes to feud sometimes, thouhh traditionally with Bananas; it's news to me that he hates my guts, lol. I think you write well and you put in effort in a lot of ways that improve the whole board. It's genuinely really cool you try to participate so much, and are even willing to do writeups and reviews of a ton of quests. You could always post the link here to try and shake a few new readers into the 'bucket', but from what I've seen the best practice is to just remain consistent--players come and go, but many flock to good, frequent updates and a dedication to not flaking. Another method is word of mouth!

If Olympus stopped abusing the airbrush and learned how to use HARD VS. SOFT EDGES, I think he definitely could improve.

First of all, I don't use all that much airbrush. I generally like to start with hard shapes and then blur or smudge out the edges on most of the stuff I render since I think it looks nice. I do sometimes use harder shadows in specific situations, but I've found that I just have more fun using less harsh edges in my rendered pieces. I know not everyone is gonna like it, but it's my personal preference and I wouldn't consider it an error. You and I have already had this conversation a couple of times, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to take a pot shot now lol

There was actually a comic series this past year called 'Godzilla Heist', where this scientist guy figures out how to lure Godzilla to locations using a neutrino beam and then uses little robot drones to corral his rampage juuuust enough to commit crimes - starts with busting into a bank vault, moves on to a big job on the London facility where Mechagodzilla is housed. Basic premise is that the events of certain films going all the way back to 1925's "The Lost World" happened, and following the 1998 incident with Zilla, an organization was formed made up of and funded by nations from across the globe to develop defenses against and battle kaiju. You'd be part of the organization just when the kaiju threat suddenly begins to surge again, and various forces start trying to use kaiju for their own gains.

One aspect that I am nervous about writing is the whole "this is being funded and staffed by nations around the world" bit given current events including wars and political strife. Not sure if it would be in bad taste or tone deaf to have nations and people that are currently having problems with one another be working together in the story,

The best proven method is consistency, making loyal players to a quest, and secondly is mass appeal and/or good premise that attracts an audience. You can't just have one or the other; there have been several long running quests for multiple years that only pull in a small number of diehard players, so a certain amount of mass appeal and "crowd pleasing" is required to get people in, then, make them stay with quality, good communication, or a nice community in some combination thereof.

Unfortunately, it is somewhat a popularity contest and if you didn't start a few years ago when the board was more active you may be at a disadvantage. While quests don't compete for each other for players directly there is certainly a limit on how many quests the average player is going to keep up with. The only real lasting method for /qst/ growth is to increase board traffic which is only going to be done through outside factors. Several ad campaigns on 4chan have been run which seems to increase interest and traffic by a small amount, but unless mass culture actively pushes more towards creative writing or a lot of attention is put on /qst/ in particular (like a famous youtube making a "the most interactive RPG you've never played" type expose on the board) it's unlikely we won't just continue a slow decline. Not to be a doomer about it but it's simply the nature of things.

This is why it pays to stick around and lurk a little bit--/qst/ is slow. Slower than cold molasses stuck in traffic. You're not always going to get eighty responses in an hour--hell, plenty of quests don't even break three votes in a full day.

The good news is that this isn't a job and no one's going to flip their lid if you aren't updating every four seconds. Live your life, do chores, play games, read, draw, whatever... and if you're really itching to run your quest you can check in every few hours or so. Some players are in different Timezones, others have work or other obligations, especially during the weekends, and sometimes the board's just slow for inexplicable reasons.

In short, don't throw in the towel because you haven't gotten a vote in an hour. Your quest isn't dead, it's not abandoned, and it certainly isn't bad either--just give it some time and stick with it. Not everyone can commit to 'session'-style quests which is why most of them aren't. You're not exactly running a D&D Session here, you're writing a story and checking in to see what people wanna do now and then.

Granted, most quests are gonna have players dip in and out, but as long as it's clear you're not going to flake and your quest isn't boring then you're bound to attract some more people! If it's a persistent problem, though, you might wanna look at the choices you're giving your voters--do they all blend together? Is there really one 'right' choice? Are the mechanics complicated for newcomers? There's a lot of possibilities, but nine times outta ten it's really just because you haven't been around long enough for people to 'settle in' yet. The average update rate seems to be around 1/day on /qst/, so that's how often a lot of players check in on threads. Unless you have an established playerbase that expects and can respond hourly or however fast you're running, you'll need to start slower and work your way up.

Ah, you're just like me then. It's a pretty surprising change of pace. I am also like you in that sometimes I get itchy fingers and don't wanna wait for more votes to roll in, and so I may call it early or roll a die to break a tie, or even do an update on a single vote. Anons are chill with that generally, a lot of us just want something fun to read and to be able to steer the story when it's properly consequential.

I've hit a bunch of slow spells recently though. Family emergency followed by a bad flu, now have a crazy work emergency blowing up, and on top of it all, I've been running at least two quests simultaneously for like three or four months straight... I wouldn't say I am burning out but I've been tired as hell. Been writing the same update for LoZ for like four days now and keep getting interrupted...

Thank you for asking! And no, I usually don't have such a detailed or intricate background to naming my alien races. Most of the time I choose a name last, usually after drawing them and developing concepts for their technology and culture; picking something vaguely fitting in animal theme (Zaloons because of water birds called loons, Ixcee because they're fast, evasive little bug people like "pixie", etc.). I believe I shared this before but an earlier Monke plot point was that every alien race discovered had a double A in the name; which indicating they were under the control over the worms which matched the worms double A in their true name. This was even directly hinted to the players as the worms briefly called them "Jaaxtians" when you had a word envoy until Eoba II killed it. I also messed it up by including the "Baalathi" even though they ended up not even being a real species with worm involvement so it didn't make sense. I briefly remember considering it instead to be the marker of a race capable of FTL travel, which is why the Swall had one A (and would later be "Swaall" when they could travel FTL if left alone long enough) Howeve this didn't work either as it became too restrictive and samey for future names PLUS the Hazaar had already been introduced and explicitly couldn't travel FTL so I just dropped the whole thing.

But it's interesting you mention the Hazaar in particular, as they actually did have their name developed from another word. But not a Persian word, just "Bazaar", since I always planned on having them be capitalistic, scummy street-peddlers-in-space types to contrast with the much more Communistic/Fascist/Planned Economy of the Hegemony. Earlier on in the quest there was also a much bigger emphasis on the conflict between the capitalist past of the Hegemony, including even having rich billionaires as a type of untouchable elite who would be like the descendants of billionaires from our time still kicking and causing problems. They were wrote out of the canon (and dwindling in number over time) as the Hegemony's authoritarianism began to be developed and stressed more.

Eh, I think that's a little unfair. Plenty of QMs are still running or even have completed their long time quests up until this day. Cambion wrapped up just a week ago, Drowned completed its insane decade long run, and Olympus Incarnation finished as well, all in the span of the last fourish months. Take into consideration qms who have been running for a while and are yet to flake— DetectQM, Sunseeker, Bones, Bananas, etc. etc. and it seems like most QMs who actually run a quest for more than a couple weeks are really likely to follow through.

QST is dying, if indeed it is, because 4chan itself is dying. We live in a different internet age than we used to. That said, even if the board size is small, there are still tons of readers and writers, more than enough to run a quest. No need to be so doom and gloom in my opinion

I think your writing is solid and your ideas are very big and multiplex in a way that is generally good for quests - there's a lot to wonder about and a lot I feel I may be anticipating and a lot of fanservice which I think anons here tend to enjoy a lot. I think maybe some of the votes don't feel they propel the story too much or give our character as much control over the narrative as others, but the updates still move the plot forward and continue to flesh out the - very expansive - world. It's too early for me to really give any big feedback or say that I have any gripes, and I am having a good time. Some anons may not like your high pace, but I think a lot of others will be stoked about it.

I mostly do my own thing, but I try to consider what might be satisfying or infuriating in a story. If I think it's horseshit and wouldn't want to read a story where it happens, I try not to inflict it on my players.

Active discussion is the best sign, imo. Even over pure raw votes. If people care enough about the details of what's going on to argue about what to do, or to plan for the future, that's a sign they're invested.

I think a quest with 4 players who actively discuss with each other over what to do has a healthier player base than a 8 voter quest where everyone either +1s another vote or wordlessly copy pastes one of your options. I'd also say people proposing write ins is also a good sign, since that means they care enough about what's going on to even bother writing in to begin with.

Yea, what H&H said. Reading stuff is what's going to give you tools for your 'toolbelt', be they ways to write realistic dialogue, descriptions, or actions. Books are a great source of inspiration, of course, but whether you can curl up with one or not I would also recommend taking a look at the catalog itself.

Peruse some quests! If you like how they're written, try to figure out what, exactly, makes them so enjoyable to read. If you aren't a fan, consider what turns you off. If you're really struggling for material, you can always ask around here for some recommendations--we have a pretty lively archive with a LOT of old quests on it! At the very least reading other quests can also give you an idea of how other folks format their stuff, how they write dialogue, and a few other tricks. Someone mentioned dicerolls earlier--they aren't necessary, per se, but adding an element of randomness to a quest can definitely make it more interesting. Sometimes failure is more conductive to storytelling than success is!

Writing is like a muscle--it'll take a while to get back into shape if you haven't used it for a long time. That said, reading is a good way to 'stretch' it too, but what qualifies as a good read is subjective, so having a vague idea of what you enjoy is always worthwhile.

Hey all, it's me, back with another review. This time, in a cynical attempt to get the QM to go back to running it, it's Concrete Stratosphere!

Concrete Stratosphere is set in a potentially post apocalyptic dystopian future, where all of society as we know it is sequestered in the Panopolis, a colossal multi-tiered city built to house, feed, and maintain order over (presumably) the remainder of the human race. The Panopolis has 5 levels, from the ghettos of Level 5 ruled by a darwinian ‘punk culture’ to the mysterious Level 1, where whatever or whoever manages the city's government resides. In this caste based world, (you) play as Max Montagu, an ordinary citizen of L5 that longs to be a HERO.

That's right, CS, despite (or perhaps because) of its dystopian sci fi setting is, for all intents and purposes, a Superhero quest. The unremarkable Montagu secretly fights crime by night, using makeshift weaponry and a resourcefully assembled costume to transform himself into the Mask, a hooded vigilante who protects the weak from the punks of Level 5 (and eventually, beyond). The story, being an origin, has some flavor of Batman: Year One, with Max going through the training, trials, and tribulation necessary to become the city’s anonymous protector. That said, if you’re looking for a pure comic style superhero experience, you’ll also be disappointed. The story isn't just about the Mask’s vigilante crusade, it's as much if not more so about the Panopolis itself, how its system and systems like it can create apathy, corruption, and despair. It may not be as overtly political as Monke is, but it definitely has undertones of societal commentary.

For the pros, CS is a considerably high effort quest, with consistent, charming illustrations, solid character work for its two main leads, and unique gameplay that takes advantage of the qst format (like the image deduction puzzles where you find clues in the drawings and use them to solve cases and gain advantages in later scenarios). The setting is interesting and well considered, and the superhero aspect is handled without the eye rolling subversion or incessant lampshading that so much capeshit media, both official and amateur, seems so eager to fall into these days.

While the quest is fantastic, I obviously have a couple of nitpicks, as one will with anything. For one, I haven't found any of the villains particularly compelling. While I understand the need to keep things grounded to make Max’s crusade seem more strange, none of the major antagonists had the same gravitas that even street tier mob bosses from comics like the Kingpin or Black Mask do. While I can tell the QM tried to make them stand out, the fact is that a society where everyone basically looks the same (skin tone and hair wise especially), it's difficult to make truly iconic character designs, I think some time to flesh them out a bit more would have served the quest well. Also, while it definitely has less of his eccentricities than Monke does, CS is still a BananasQM quest, with the occasional trap option and negative interaction between him and the players being inevitable Most notably for the latter was the sub-weapon selection where the QM complaints shifted the course of the vote.

The real drawback of Concrete Stratosphere, though, is simply a lack of time. The QM seems deadset on running at most two threads a year, with each level having 2 threads dedicated to it. As a result, you will not see the end of this quest until after this decade has already passed, possibly not until 2035. If you go back and read the (very short, very worth your time) archives, it is YOUR responsibility to browbeat bananas into running this quest so you can see the end of it before the site explodes.

TL;DR, it's a great quest, go read it. It's only 3 threads long with tons of illustrations, so you can knock it out in a couple days.

Sorry, y'all, shit hit the fan IRL but I'm okay. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it also requires CERTAIN PEOPLE in my life to not WUSS OUT when it comes to solving our mutual problems. I've been reading it on-and-off. I like the art and the content thus far as well as the descriptions, but I think you need to offer more concrete choices.

For example, the current vote's choices are:

These might be fine for someone who's been following along, but even then this is pretty vague. Doubly so because it's hard to pick out all the 'Interactables' from the text.

For example, what if I voted to inspect the plates and cutlery? Is that conductive to our progress? Should I instead be focused on the food? When you cast such a wide net it makes it tricky for players to collaborate on a choice--in one of the best case scenarios, one person will vote and everyone else will just glob onto it to keep the ball rolling.

In short, I know it's more work, but I'd recommend offering choices that are a bit more targeted--choices you KNOW will have some kind of impact. Not every choice has to drive things forward, of course, but poking players in the right direction can always help.

Instead of

Maybe pick a few items and give some choices like:

This narrows the 'net' a little bit and helps players see what exactly they can deal with. Freedom is great--I LOVE freedom--but casting too wide of a net can throw players for a loop even if they've been following for a while.

Lastly, going forward if you're aiming for a 'text adventure'-esque deal I would definitely make the interactables stand out more. Doesn't need to be a different text color, but even putting things like the CABINET in all caps can help players discern what they're working with.

Keep it up, though--I'm liking it so far!

LoZ is heavily inspired by the Legend of Zelda franchise, of course, and that includes not just the video games but the Manga as well. The games are malleable and creative, always introducing new core mechanics or means of pushing the envelope in terms of gameplay - this differentiates them, entices players, but also is a way of reinforcing themes. The /quest/ version of these games, then, seemed to me something that should be able to really turn certain things on their head.

The nature of a written /quest/ allows me to exponentially expand the 'open world' concept that is a consistent element of the games - in particular, Windwaker, Breath of The Wild, and Tears of The Kingdom. I also felt a need to create a story about an entirely new Hero of Legend, one that isn't constrained by all of the expectations of a Link incarnation, capable of taking advantage of the openness of the format to tell this story differently.

With no game engine to worry about, I am also able to have a vast cast or much larger action sequences involving as many characters as I'd like. The lore and the mangas are able to allude to huge armies and heavily populated battlefields, but this isn't something the games can really handle mechanically. I was thinking about that and also the way these games depict a very noble kind of fairytale violence; it's bloodless, it's constant, it's genocidal often, it's ubiquitous and so necessary that there is rarely any dialogue about it at all. When there is, it's interesting. One recalls the old man in the cave handing Link a sword, a weapon of war, with hardly a thought. A sword is a curse, a burden, as certain comic depictions of that moment have suggested.

So war seemed like the obvious core of the story. Not just 'a lot of monsters'. An army of monsters, mercenaries, and conquered or controlled tribes of people. Sieges. Big battlefield set pieces. P.O.W. camps. I felt that, with cannons already being canon in various games (Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess, etc), this would be a good place to introduce 'fire lances', and other early forms of firearm. In this way, Ganon's army is taking some definite inspiration from the industrialists and samurai of Princess Mononoke, and also the Fire Nation from A:tLA.

Playing as a Sheikah, a tribe characterized by its loyalty to the throne, use of stealth, mastery of secrecy and dark magic, my mind went in a particular direction - the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time is explained/shown to have once been used to brutally torture and murder the kingdom's enemies. The Sheikah seemed to me a good representation for the CIA and suddenly The War on Terror was sitting at the table with me.

I want to explore the normalization of violence, the reckoning we must do with the past to build our future, the place of truth in war, the power of a single person trying to be a hero, and a lot more.

The Lens of Truth seemed a perfect first legendary item and really had me thinking about war journalism, whistleblowers, and even that Civil War movie that Alex Garland did. I'm interested to see how Zuzo uses it to dispel lies or confusion, which are ubiquitous in war.

I am probably, gradually, going to introduce the kinds of moral dilemmas that are ever present in war, but which wouldn't have been appropriated for the mainline games. Zuzo isn't some Hylian incarnation of a perfectly noble hero. He is a Sheikah. He is a ninja homeland security agent. Will he rise above his tribe's past? Will he make hard choices to destroy his enemies and protect the innocent? Right now he is an adult only barely, and considers it honorable and glorious for him and his fellow teenagers to be deployed into combat. Not everyone is likely to feel the same on the mainland.

Basically, LoZ is about using the advantages of this medium to see how much of the rewarding gameplay loops of the video games I can actually recreate, while also asking bigger questions about some of the implications of the setting's established lore once the lens is moved from and iconic hero to... Someone else, someone that resembles Link in a large number of ways, but who exists beyond him and already with the broader context of family members like Impa.

A lot of pain comes from how we resist or deny change, especially change that is outside of our ability to control. We have constant anxiety about what could go wrong, paranoia about how much worse it could be, and dread about departures for the norm we simply cannot account for.

After-Bloom is also about the ways we fail ourselves and others when we can't cope with these big changes.

We are often cowardly, dishonest, and hostile in these kinds of situations.

Oliver represents my own cowardice. But also my resourceful thinking and cleverness. Roy represents my dishonesty, denialism, and manipulative tendencies. But also my charity, my empathy, and my loyalty. Magda represents my deep self-loathing, constant anger, and self-righteous violence. She also reminds me of my resilience, and flexibility. I'm not as bad as the worst parts of these people, or as good as their best parts. But I have hidden from reality that I didn't want to deal with. I have lied to people I loved and people I hardly knew. I have physically hurt people because I was convinced it was justified, and because I was deeply angry about horrible things that were done to me when I couldn't protect myself and no one else wanted to.

I think those admissions are true of most people to some degree. I think those dark parts of us thrive when we are in situations that scare us, that we don't understand, that we wish more than anything we could just avoid.

But sometimes things just change, even when they aren't supposed to. When things go wrong, we have to try to do what's right. It's hard. It's scary as hell. But it's worth it.

That's what I want After-Bloom to be about.

And like, mystery and survival-horror and intrigue, too. Visceral action sequences. Regret. Loss. Inspired by so much like TWD (more the first six seasons of the show), Jurassic Park (moreso the book), Dog Soldiers, I Am Legend, The Last of Us, Seven Psychopaths, Primal, Aniara (the book and the movie), and Altered States to just list shit right off the dome.

Ideally it is better to recognise that the self is not really that relevant, this is sort of epitomised by 4chan, anonymity, ephemerality etc all posts are eventually (pseudo) publicly deleted, it is like buddhism (I am not buddhist) but they do say the tenets of that philosophy are,

1/ No self (ie, no soul etc)
2/ No permanence (ie nothing lasts)
3/ ONLY SUFFERING (can call this struggle / conflict / hardship)

which is interesting to contrast with the overarching all-pervasive Judaeo Christian eschatological worldbuilding perspective.

The idea is that the author should abnegate their own individual trauma / grievance indulgence / catharsis hunger, and "self-sacrifice" this to the greater goal of communicating "the tradition", ie acting as a conduit for the phenomenon of Art. It is not really about the personality or self-biographical idiosyncrasies of the author etc. (as this will inevitably alienate or be found unappealling by some portion of his audience).

Games genre fiction and ttrpgs in particular make it very easy to recognise "the tradition", as you cited, most will know and recognise the films books and worlds you mentioned, constituting the canonical body of work that came before. It is easy tp get a bit mystical about this, TS Eliot envisioned this as a sort of intertemporal transmission of generational heritage. At the same time, I do believe all fiction and rpgs are enriched by embedding NON FICTIONAL personal experiences, if for nothing else merely for the resonance and emotional intensity. Somewhere a balance may be found between the depersonalised and the confessional approaches

I was half-wondering half-anticipating if I wrote about my quests in that sort of way (essay adjacent while stoned and bored and avoiding sleep) that it might summon you, Souv.

As per usual, I really don't care for the way you project sexuality onto the stories I am telling - I think if you had more context you'd probably realize bringing up BDSM in this way is frankly kind of gauche. This is kinda funny, because while I disagree with your broad premise that stories are about trauma, LoZ partially is, and After-Bloom hugely is (I think most good post-apoc fiction is, to some degree, about the pattern of traumatic experience). I would've expected you to rant a bit more about that. AB is, to some degree, me doing a bit of therapy on myself, even, as I give legs to some of these things I don't like about myself and allow players to prod them in different directions.

I definitely agree that stories, especially if this type, are enriched by our real world experiences - both as QM's and voters putting together Write-ins. My best stuff is influenced directly by real exchanges I have had and experiences I have had big part of why a lot of the characters I write are criminals or mentally ill or grieving etc. My second best stuff is influenced by media I have taken in and really paid attention to. Everything else is just connective tissue for those first two things, mainly.

I think when people analyze my work in a way that feels really off base for me, it elicits a strong reaction because it feels personal - especially here where I am stating explicitly what parts of this story feel personal for me in the first place, yaknow?

When a poster like Souv, who I generally find to be kind of a bad sport or abrasive at best and flatly offensive sometimes at worst, has a seemingly real interest in what I am working on (with that post alone he has done more discussing AB than the majority of the players, after all, even if I dont like all of what he is saying), I find that pretty curious. I can't tell if he skimmed it or has been voting, and I guess that also makes me curious about what kind of players I have drawn in with that story.

It's the first quest I have had where a player showed up and was frequently rude to others and myself to such a degree that it disrupted the thread and I had to ask them to chill out, strangely the first quest I have run (and in many ways the least political by far???) where multiple people felt a need to clarify what their politics were like, unprompted, to contextualize why they did not approve of a female MC. So the ideological and personality makeup of After-Bloom players has become pretty fascinating to me, too, on its own.
