long post ahead, I hope my story helps someone.
I was forced to get a job, and so I started to apply to places, and then I got hired as a waiter at a restaurant.
That was really excruciating for me, so then I started to apply for new jobs. I liked that I got tips at the end of the day, so I looked for other jobs that can give me that too and then I became a Pizza delivery driver.
As a delivery driver, it was similar to a waiter where I had to talk at people a lot, but this was very quick and easy. Just walk up, say hello, hand them their pizza and get money, then say thank you good bye.
Easy.
Eventually, I started to try new things on deliveries. if someone had nice flowers in their yard, I'd compliment them when they got to the door to get their pizza.
if they had a nice car, nice house, whatever. I'd just try to say it as a nice gesture.
This was mostly towards old people, but eventually I started working up my courage to say it to middle aged people, and then eventually people around my age (mid-late 20s, I am 27)

Then I realized, if I can just say a random nice thing, maybe I can ask them a question too. "Those are really nice wind chimes, do you mind if I ask where you got them? I'd like to buy some for my mom"

and finally, I realized, talking to a random person at the store is really no different than talking to a random person I'm delivering pizza to.
So, I started trying to talk to people at grocery stores, "excuse me, what is that in your cart? it looks weird, is it good?"
At the grocery store, it was a little bit more difficult. some people were very cold towards me, other people were warm and would talk to me about food.

I decided, "I will stick with this" and eventually decided to sign up for an acoustic song open mic night at a local coffee lounge. I went there, and I was horrible. All of my past anxieties and fear came back immediately, I clammed up before my turn, and shut down right after
But what happened? Someone (male) approached me to say something nice. usually it's me saying nice things to strangers, not the other way around. This was great and almost life changing.
So I kept practicing at my guitar, and kept attending the acoustic open mics at the coffee lounge. There came a point where a cute girl was also performing on the same night as me, and we both happened to play covers of songs by Elliot Smith.
I played after her, and afterward I walked up to her and tried to make a joke "haha, looks like I stole your idea" and then she got mad, and said how her's was better because she can sing in-key and I can't. That was kind of rude but for some reason I didn't care at all, it was like a non-romantic rejection and it simply didn't phase me this time. Maybe months prior, I would have freaked out and gave up guitar or socializing for good.
Anyway, a few weeks later, I had a bunch of extra money from all of my pizza delivery tips, so I decided to hire a hooker and had her dress up similar to the girl who insulted me at the acoustic open mic, I even had her sing Elliot Smith lyrics while I was inside her.
