i think that it's because the people who you surround yourself with have a tendency to assume the worst case scenario with others, so when you try and take steps to fulfill your potential and actualize the self, they become afraid of your failure because they've already experienced their own. they end up holding you back, and trying their best to prevent you from taking those steps because it was better if you'd never even began. they end up doing anything, even hurting you because they are that afraid of your failure, and even moreso, your success because it will make them realize how they have squandered their own lives. if they had it their way, you would be a failure drinking alcohol to cope, just so that they don't have to feel bad about themselves. these people are not choosing love, but fear. they do not have the best intentions for you, they want your ruin to not spoil their illusion. rise above their mediocrity and do not take it personally because that choice between fear and love isn't easy for everyone to make, especially when they do not understand the consequences and believe they are acting in your best interests. i don't think anyone can really support you being your best you, but you. everyone else can serve a role in your life towards your goals, but it's really you who has to believe in yourself through all of the bullshit other people try and sell you. a lot of it is just hypothetical fear porn, but you're an adult and surely you don't believe in the boogeyman anymore.
