(mods i'm 18 please) so i was originally too scared to check it out but after getting drunk on 3 cans of red bull i said fuck it and went to the collegeboard portali feel like shit. i just wasted $125 (which is almost 2 weeks worth of my father's salary) to re-take it. Last time i took it was in sophomore year and i got a 1530 (760 english 770 math) without studying for jackshit, so i thought by actually hitting the books this time i'd get the score i wanted. I gave 3 practice tests, started grinding 1 whole week before the test, skipped high school classes to study at home and was getting 1590-1600 on mock exams...but only got a 10-point increase (from 770 to 780 math) on the real test....i thought i'd get an 800 in math this time, go to MIT for computer engineering, work in a scientific research lab & talk to like-minded people, go see an NBA game in real life, and live the American Dream. Now i'll have to go to some shitty local university here in China, get a normal office job and repeat same day over and over again till i'm 80 years old man. i lost the opportunity of a lifetimeWhy even live now. My parents are asking me now how much I got, can I even look them in the eye?
>>79187347Yeah it's over for you nowstart sucking dick
>>79187391How will sucking my dick or sucking other people's dicks solve the problem? My life is done for and I'm supposed to provide other people pleasure now? For what?? If nobody gives me happiness, I will see to it that no-one can get happiness from me whatsoever. Also are you American? I have a couple of questions about your country
>>79187464Yeah, I'm American.
>>79187347>oh noes i got a high score on an irrelevant test nobody knows or cares about what do i doooo?fuck off you pseudo-intellectual prick faggoti bet you're an absolute sissy in real life too
>>79187506>Irrelevant testOP is a loser, but let's not lie
>>79187517FACT: Only colleges care about SAT scores and many are starting to not care.FACT: Colleges don't equip graduates with the knowledge that they need in the job field.FACT: Experience in the industry is more important that education.CONCLUSION: Skip college and just get a job doing what you want.
>>79187547Cool advice AnonI guess your dream job is burger flipper. Good luck becoming an investment banker or doctor without college.
>>79187347>1540so is that a good thing or not
>>79187347At 18, you are a literal kid. You worry about what your parents will think. But all that will pass, and you will become an adult. Until then, try to have new and novel experiences to help you become you.
>>79187613>I want to be an investment banker and make the lives of poor people into shit!>I want to be a doctor ans slice fags up!!!Truly deranged job choices.
>>79187547>Experience in the industry is more important that education.Sure. Now go get hired to work on AWS at Amazon without a degree.
>>79187662I love my job that makes poor peoples' lives shit. Anyway, I asked for no mustard.
>>79187672Dude, that's impossible. I already have a degree.
>>79187635It's hard to say; In the old days the max was 1600, then they changed the max to 2400 from 2005 to about COVID time, then they changed it back to the max being 1600 again.Depends on when you take the test.Ironically the pyramid is pointy enough that missing the top by 50 points is probably as bad as missing the top by 500 points, its not like you're going to get any less scholarships etc. Nobody gets nothing if they're not right on the tippy top, just like being a pro athlete.
>>7918734718-yr-old boys are hothave you thought about meeting a nice older man?
>>79187635>>79187963If you read what OP wrote, it's clear that he1. Took the 1600 version2. Feels that 1540 is a bad score because he's aiming at top schools like MIT
>>79187503Ok nice1) Have you ever attended university? What year?2) When you go to senior high school, is it normal for people to start planning which major they wish to study at university, and start studying for exams they take to show that they're qualified to get in? Do you have a state quota that states only certain amount of students per state/country are allowed inside in their university for each major?2) If I get into an Ivy League will it be easier for me to get a job in the US vs some public university? Will working at a job in the US look bad to grad schools? I am a prospective computer engineering student planning to earn some money first in order to get a PhD and then a postdoc. I tried searching it up but all the helpful sites are blocked by the government in my country so unbanned sites like 4chan are my only hope. Other rich people here have relatives in Stanford and California so they can ask them but I can't3) In China, students usually get a part-time job to stop parents from paying full fees of their university. I know it is allowed to get a job after you graduate because of the H1-B visa, but what about during your studies? Also, what is CPT and OPT?>>79187506Is this sarcasm? I don't understand, here the SAT is seen as this hard test you must write to get into a high-ranked university. If it was not held in English though I think most people would get 1570+
>>79187347i know this feelwould your parents happen to be eastern asian>>79187506shut up you genuinely wouldn't get it
>>79187347>drunk on 3 cans of red bull
>>791881981.Yes (I'd say which university but anons would just say I'm lying. I'll just be vague and say "one of the really good ones") class of 20232.Yes to the first question but I went to a private high school and this is not the norm - No the U.S. does not have quotas like that, and even if they did, it could legally only apply to state universities. Most of the best schools are private colleges3. Some schools offer work-study programs to students as a form of financial-aid, but I'm not sure exactly how this works for international students - CPT and OPT are chances for international students to do internships/work while on F-1 visa
>>79187547How am I supposed to get hired at a research lab on a fellowship or postdoc if I don't have a PhD? And without a bachelors nobody would even let you apply to a doctoral program>>79187635In the world, it says it is 99th percentile but in my country it's only 92nd. Why would any university let me in if some other guy has a 1560 or higher with an 800 in math? That's why a 1540 is a bad thing.>>79187659I guess so. But the only experiences I can have until I graduate are studying for the national exams we're supposed to take, aswell as AP Computer Science A and Calculus BC for college credits>>79187963>>79188067Do you recommend I take it for a 3rd time in December? It'll be of great shame to my family's honour but I have to escape this dystopia.>>79188014No, i'm straight.
>>79188338If you think it will get you a higher score, you could try to take it againDo you have access to the ACT in China? The ACT is the rival test to the SAT. Every good school in the US takes the ACT, and since the ACT is out of 36 but is as long as the SAT, it is easier to get a perfect 36 than it is to get a perfect 1600.
>>79188338Getting hired at a research lab for a fellowship or postdoc without a PhD can be challenging but not impossible. Here are some steps you can take to increase your chances: Networking: Build connections in the field through networking events, conferences, and online platforms like LinkedIn. Connecting with researchers and professors can open up opportunities. Gain Research Experience: Try to gain relevant research experience through internships, research assistant positions, or working on research projects. Demonstrating your skills and dedication can make up for the lack of a PhD. Publish Papers: If possible, try to publish research papers in journals or present your work at conferences. This can showcase your research abilities and increase your credibility. Seek out Research Fellows or Postdoc Positions Specifically for Master's Degree Holders: Some institutions offer research opportunities specifically for individuals without PhDs. Look for these opportunities and tailor your applications accordingly. Highlight Relevant Skills: Emphasize any specialized skills, techniques, or knowledge that you possess which could be valuable to the research lab. Make sure to showcase your passion for the field and your willingness to learn and contribute. Contact Researchers Directly: Reach out to researchers whose work interests you directly. Express your interest in their research and inquire about any upcoming opportunities for research positions. Consider a PhD or Additional Education: If research is your long-term goal, consider pursuing a PhD or additional education to strengthen your academic profile. This can open up more opportunities for research positions in the future.Remember that persistence, dedication, and a proactive approach can significantly enhance your chances of getting hired at a research lab even without a PhD.
>>79188398Thanks Chat-GPTThis is obviously terrible advice, but I'm sure OP knows that.
>>79188201Yes, they are asian>>79188254Thank you very much, you have made my month and maybe my year. Is it possible for you to recommend any university to apply to where I can still stand a chance at admission? - I don't think I will be accepted to any Ivies with 1540. For reference i have a 3.989 gpa (not counting 9th grade) and 5 in AP Physics C: E&M, but very few ECs because of all the studying I have to do.>>79188397Yeah, I took ACT in grade 11 and got a 35, but I heard only SAT will be considered by universities?>>79188398Nobody uses LinkedIn here, dude. Research experience openings are only for PhD students. Did you even read my post, or are you a bot?
>>79187347what the fuarrk is an SAT
>>79188014get your creepy faggot ass out here
>>79188579No ECs honestly hurts you more than the 1540 SAT. Any good university in the US takes both the SAT and ACT
>>79188579>Nobody uses LinkedIn here, dude.Except you actually live in America and this is all a larp. You can't post on 4chan over the great firewall.
