All those guys came to power because of some revolution or political change that re-ordered the society of their day. I reckon the the most ambitious and ruthless among whatever powerless class that ends up in charge are naturally selected for during periods of political change because they best exploit the situation

I can't speak for the other two but Hitler and Napoleon were pretty good cool guys. Especially Hitler. He wasn't after glory or riches. Everything he did was an act of love. Every time I learn something new about him my admiration grows.
