All beings dislike suffering. All beings desire happiness. Knowing this you should not harbor hatred for anyone even though they might be blinded by greed and deceived into finding happiness in evil deeds.

All of the unwholesome actions I have committed in the past,
Were due to my greed, malice, and foolishness
throughout beginningless time,
And came about through my actions, words, and thoughts.
I now repent every last one of them.

I will not kill or harm any living things unnecessarily.
I will not take what is not given.
I will not misuse sexual relationships.
I will not speak falsely.
I will not speak carelessly.
I will not speak abusively.
I will not speak to cause discord.
I will not have thoughts of greed.
I will not be angry or hold thoughts of ill-will.
I will not hold false views.

May the world be stable and secure,
May the winds and rains come in their seasons,
May the harvests be bountiful,
May all countries co-exist in harmony,
May all people be cherished,
And may every being in the world be benefited equally.

you shouldn't harbor hatred for the sole reason of opportunity cost, not because of your wishy washy buddist cope. It cost time and energy hating something when you can be reinvesting those same efforts to maximize your own material success

>thinks Buddhists are concerned with material success

Which gatha is this?
>>

It is a translation of some traditional and original parts. It is also edited somewhat by me to be collected in this order and I think I might have changed a word or two? I encountered these meditation stanzas at a Shingon Buddhist temple.

Thought that was a Theravada gatha but the additional precepts gave it away that it's Mahayana

The ending stanza is especially in the Mahayanic school of thought, I suppose. What are your favorite gathas that you use in daily life? I can only read and speak English, sadly.

Give up learning.

I really try but it gets the best of me. The injustice makes me wanna take action and I get worked up about it. I read Buddhist stories about how some people were so evil the ground beneath them couldn't hold the weight of their evil karma, or something like that, so it opened up and swallowed them. Sometimes I wish that would happen to some people.

It does. If you learn to analyze someone apart from your emotions, you can see them truly for who they are. Every time I have done this for some wretched person I've known in real life, I have seen in them great pain and anger and fear and sadness and suffering. They are not happy, wreaking misery upon others. They just can't break from their cycles. They are miserable until the end. All their accomplishments mean nothing, because they are not content within. I'm 36. I've seen many of these types of people you describe actually die in my lifetime due to either old age, or their lifestyles. They all died miserable, and mostly alone, except for the co-dependent unhealthy people who remained beside them, miserable with them until the end. I can only have hope for someone so wretched that they try to fall asleep one night and are set upon by all their horrors they've committed and experience a moment of great shifting within and decide to attempt to break the Ouroboros of behavior and abuse they've wrought and experienced.

Karaniya Metta Sutta is the longest I memorized in Pali. I'm learning the Jaya Piritha to chant it during events at the temple.

The essence is very real, therein lies faith.
