It is best to raise boys to believe nothing ever good will come to them because nothing likely will. If something does happen, they are surprised and elated. If nothing comes, well that was expected. Rural boys are raised like this. It is a cowboy up mentality built into their culture due to generations of poverty. Life is nothing but struggle and suck it up and move forward. Problem many young men face today is they were promised a lot and nothing ever came.
