>>80087492honestly i dont think society has ever really been empathetic. your question assumes that people truly cared about each other before and now they dont, i dont believe thats true. on the surface, communities seemed to be more tight knit where everyone knew each other. but they only cared about what you could do for them ,people only cared about you as much as you kept up to the arbitrary societal rules. see the salem witch trials and the inquisition, people would turn in their next door neighbors to be burn or hung by the state. human greed seemed to overrule any empathy, people would accuse their neighbors of not being christian or whatever with no evidence and then the state would take them away: leaving the accuser free to take over whatever the accused had. i honestly believe empathy is a myth: at best, the only people that'll ever truly care about you is your parents. but often times, even they only care about you if you attain the goals they set upon you (whether its becoming a doctor, a lawyer, or getting a phd, etc.). empathys a myth
