lol don't worry its just an autistic passion of mine I guess, I do like a fluid workflow and vsts do help out with that but sometimes u just wanna vibe and create something while not sitting on ur PC all the time, it can help a lot with expressing your creativity in my opinion

Hardware is for millionaires. Building a fully functional music production studio costs tens of thousands of dollars. You're pouring money into one of the most expensive hobbies imaginable and it's an endless money pit.

I alrdy bought stuff that I always wanted and I don't rly aim to expand on my collection for now but I do know it's a pretty huge money sink and most of the stuff nowadays is emulated and can be done perfectly using vsts, I just enjoy getting off from my pc and just playing around from time to time and creating new patches

when korg discontinued the d-12, d16 and d-32 product line the cost prohibitive aspect was reinstated.

some people care more about money than music.
korg and roland had the best products on the market. i fully expected them to continue development of the product lines. had they done this it would have redefined multi-track recording and all those big desk full function rooms with racks of vintage analog gear and solid gold cables would have retooled or gone under.

i achieved broadcast quality finals with less than $3,000 dollars worth of gear and did it all at my kitchen table while eating cinnamon toast crunch.

it is the ear not the gear but great gear at an affordable price was a little too good for the plebeians. can't have indi artists making guerilla recordings at home that sound as good as major label offerings done on neve desks @ $300+ per hour and then mixing and mastering by second and third parties. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

i am livid to this day and if they don't reinstate the product lines something might happen of a nuclear magnitude...

livid.

this was not a free market event. this was a couple of phone calls and some CEO kneecaps put in jeopardy.

g*ddamn this thread hit a nerve.
*sip*

and let's don't forget about fostex!!!!!!

they brought a 24 track stand alone digital recorder to market that was compatible with any analog board and outboard gear that you might have laying around. the built in D/A converteters alone put this piece of gear head and shoulders above anything else available. about this time mackie boards emerged as the best bang for the buck. great specs, ultra low noise and affordable. this combination put DAT out of business. remember DAT? you're recording on VHS tape ffs.

the ones who know could go postal.

we're back to making bricks without straw.
goddamn!!!!!

going to the fostex website and seeing the "legacy gear" page (discontinued products) is like going to the funerals of all your friends and family. an eternity of sad. because some pharaoh decided to pull the plug on you. that's not free market. it's raw greed and filthy lucre.

Filthy lucre:
money obtained dishonestly
Money; originally, money obtained dishonestly. For example, She didn't like the job but loved the filthy lucre in the form of her weekly paycheck . This term comes from the Bible (Titus 1:11), where it refers to those who teach wrongly for the sake of money.

>were legendary

they are reinstating cost prohibitive and forcing us to change workflow and accept lower quality results.

in order for me to recreate the working environment and specs of a korg d-32 i will now have to spend upwards of 20 grand.

the preamp and headphone specs were unbelievable.
dedicated gear built in.
dedicated processors for inserts and effect.
dedicated processor for disk management.
light pipe built in!!!!!!!

my glass masters were like christmas morning.
from acoustic guitar stuff to electronica to expermental this device did it all with specs to rival any big desk full function room in the WORLD.

so they took it all away.

they are truly reptilian.

shout out to david icke.

But they have VSTs to emulate the sound of Akai Samplers. Just do everything in Ableton and sell all synths and samplers. Maybe get a cheap audio interface with lots of inputs and outputs if you wanna process stems on your analog mixer or master tracks on it. Keep your workflow streamlined and your apartment ~empty~ and I mean ~empty~
>>
>>11469906
there is no substitute for "dedicated gear".
emulation only goes so far.

i have my own room and my studio room, i typically am in a studio room, i dont have a lot of synths out, and i know that rx950 exists and i do use it, i know that amigo exists and i do use it...
as i mentioned previously, i dont aim to expand my gear anymore, my workflow is really streamlined and i dont use ableton to produce music (renoise is a beast to me)
my apartment is as clean as it can get (sometimes!!!)
>>
>>
(you) what's that ?
>>
>>11469922
Yeah I know you know everything about this shit but you need to set priorities and don't waste too much time and resources. Most professional beatmakers only use a Macbook with some VSTs. Nothing else. r/malelivingspace

Just saying consider becoming a minimalist.
>>
>>11469968
the korg and roland product lines were the textbook definition of minimalist.
all they're doing now is taking away quality and forcing us to spend $ to reacquire the tools we need to produce.

free market?

no.

filthy lucre.

i may have to shoot up an airport if you keep shilling macbook.

:)

:(

that macbook has no i/o to speak of.
it is beyond ridiculous to shill for this... this....
this "thing"

it's okay as a sketchpad.
but with no i/o you're going to be taking all your midi data to a full function room to get anything that is truly high fidelity recording.

korg and roland and fostex et al. solved this problem but as previously stated the results were deemed a little to impressive for plebeians recording at home and eating cinnamon toast crunch at the kitchen table/mixing board.

anything worth doing is worth doing well.

we're making bricks without straw once again and the major labels aren't seeing any increase in revenue (as was expected) because of it.

"Come on over here boy
Have a cigar you're gonna go far
You're gonna fly high
You're gonna never gonna die
You're gonna make it if you try
They're gonna love you...

Everybody else is just green
Have you seen the charts?
It's a hell of a start
It could be made into a monster
If we all pull together as a team [sic]"
