Anything you can only represent with a letter or a bunch of math that's just a letter in a trench coat and fake mustache without estimation.

It's a number that never appears as the root of a polynomial with integer coefficients.

For example, sqrt(2) is not transcendental because it's the root of the polynomial f(x) = x^2 - 2.
