>>16257354You should have seen how upset the teachers got in 1st and 2nd grade when some of us were way ahead of the rest of the class on basic math. They were actually offended some of us were doing much better. They made sure to hold us back and gave us extra busy work. The kids who didn't get math in general never got better. The teachers acted like it was our fault. This was the early 90's in rural Virginia. The Lie of Equality was strong even there and our classes were almost all white with only one or two non white kids. We could have easily learned basic algebra after long division but that was a no, no. You had to stay back because whatever the equivalent of No Child Left Behind in those days was their creed.
