What's stopping me to put PhD after my name? Who's gonna check?
>>
>>16381032
I'm gay btw not sure if that matters
>>

>What's stopping me to put PhD after my name? Who's gonna check?
At the local Starbucks? Nobody.
When I applied for my job, however, I assure you they did indeed actually check.
>>
>>16381042
you got a PhD? you think you're smart huh?
>>
>>16381051
>you think you're smart huh?
Actually I do.
>>
>>16381053
you shouldn't.
>>
>>16381054
I don't think I'm smart because of the PhD. I think I'm smart because of objective evidence. For example, I know that sentences begin with capital letters.
>>
>>16381059
you say that, but like many PhD holders, you do actually overestimate your intelligence as exemplified by your immediate attempt at a smart-sounding rhetoric, which follows the set pattern of others who do so in this sort of conversations. this is also objective evidence.
>>
>>16381089
spot on
>>
>>16381053
just take an iq test and tell us your major
>>
>>16381617
computer science, 104
>>
>>16381059
this sentence begins with a lowercase letter.
>>
>>16381642
nice bait anon
>>
>>16381821
i dont think its bait

cs is a meme

everyone wants the salary
>>
>>16381642
thats low as shit how did you learn to code my FSIQ is 100 and i learned in a few months but my iq is super natural
>>
>>16381089
math, physics, and engineering phd holders are actually smart though

Just go to India or Saudi Arabia and get pay up.
You can easily get 2 or 3 diplomas and they're not super expensive or time-consuming.
Then, once you're back companies can't do shit about it, as it's way too difficult to investigate.
But realistically companies won't really notice as long as you are not retarded.
t. PhD in data science and finance

>bu- but anon you can't jus- ...
>I spent half my life in school.. and didn't touch pussy for 14 years...
>you can't just... just fake your PhD, it's not fair!
GET FUCKED YES I CAN
SO CAN YOU
GO TO INDIA AND BRIBE YOUR WAY TO AS MANY PhDs AS YOU LIKE
>>
I've had two industry jobs and none verified my phd. This was very shocking to say the least

>t. synthetic chemist
>>
The archonate will check.
>>
>>16381089
How do you claim to know the sound of my discourse isn't driven by actual intelligence? (I mean apart from the fact that you're clearly butt-hurt about my PhD.)
>>
>>16384110
You're saying that like a blanket ban on all things from India (including diplomas) isn't just around the corner.
>>
>>16384110
>GO TO INDIA
I rather not
>>
>>16384113
How do you know they didnt ask the school directly or used some attendance database
>>
>>16381032
There are occasionally consequences, like
https://www.personneltoday.com/hr/nhs-boss-lied-about-degree-peter-knight/
>he pleaded guilty to fraud after he lied about having a degree on his CV. He was handed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years

Probably plenty more who get away with it though. Really depends on your risk appetite, your ability to convincingly bullshit your way out of tricky questions, and who you're lying to.

It makes chuckle a bit thinking about how all of this could just be a footnote.
>>
What's the utility of a phd? Why, broadly speaking, would one want a phd? Is it just for people who work in high-end R&D?
>>
>>16385830
Sure seems like everything is trending in that direction

I live in a high-trust first world country and some youtuber caused quite a stirr two years ago because he just walked into the local municipality's office with a fake PhD diploma and added that shit to his name within 15 minutes.

He filmed it all and got a 5k fine and 1 year on probation though because he not only got a fraud charge but also falsification of official documents.
>>
>>16381821
I have a CS degree and it's really not that hard. Getting a PhD in CS isn't all that hard either. If you can get a bachelor's, you most likely can also get a PhD, it's just often not worth the time.
>>
>>16384606
They don't have time for that anon, and, I now know they don't give a shit. welcome to the real world
>>

>I think I'm smart because of objective evidence. For example i noticed you broke minor spelling rules that have no effect on communication or understanding.
Let me guess. You're always the first person to point out typos of your/you're, or there/their/they're or to let people know it's "fewer" not "less". Are you a literal 14 year old or just a mental 14 year old?

>And my reason for thinking you're stupid is that I'm bleeding from the ass.
It's pointless to try to distinguish a person who is too lazy to follow the rules of English from one who is too stupid to follow the rules of English.
>>
>>16381032
I can tell you checks are not common, at least in my field (coding).
So you could lie, even if most people just lie about their previous work experience pretending to know more than they do.
Even companies don't admit it they evaluate people more using istinct, they think they know if you're lying.
>>
>>16386329
>rules of english
you're not smart if you utter this phrase
>>
>>16381089
>Contrarian retard
Even if you believe that there's more to smarts than booksmarts, you have to agree he got you good.
>>
>>16381032
I got a job at a research lab and they didnt check. They just assumed i was telling the truth, which i was.
I know they didnt check because im a foreigner and my degrees are not registered in any local university or government registry and i never gave them some copy, i just told them my degrees during the interview.
