Is modern physics just a cashgrabbing circlejerk?
>>
>>16411692
the reasons physics has failed is that it uses cult techniques to market itself to normies so that they become physicists. This is how physics propagates itself now.
Sabine believes that physics is about inventing models to explain data. The only merit of a model is that it explains the data. But that's not how the physics cult gets people to become physicists. Instead of recognizing that physics is about data, they say that physics is about "reality." They believe that they are uncovering, through mystical arts, the true nature of reality. This is a delusion that expresses itself everywhere in the practice of physicists.

Yes, same as medicine, law, IT, politics etc.
>>

To answer your question, yes, it is. To address the video, holy fuck is she retarded. The minimal area in LQG is not actually some area in space that you can touch. It’s making the notions of length, area and volume into operators which have eigenvalues that are interpreted as “minimal”. I’ve only read a minimal introduction and even I know this. She’s like an undergraduate physics student complaining about the hydrogen atom energy levels not behaving as she expects.

Oh no, it's almost as if science and faith are the two sides of the same coin - trying to understand reality. Just like we are both body and mind, representing a duality.
And artificially separating them leads to gravely erroneous conclusions. Where one fails, the other steps in and complements it, holistically.

Who would've thought.

>>
>>16411692
The fundamental issue here is that science was once inhabited mostly by people motivated to understand the nature of reality. Now its mostly inhabited by people motivated by having a career.
This is result of the proliferation of Universities churning out a huge number of people who while mainly competent at a technical level, within a discipline, lack the critical thinking and creativity required to reach a genuine understanding of their subject and who probe deeper to advance it..
An anolgy would be a lawn mower mechanic who can fix and maintain a lawn mower, check the spark plug gap, change the oil, sharpen the blades, can even rebuild the engine, but doesn't understand why the lawn mower works in the first place and doesn't want to find out, and is therefore incapable of designing a better lawn mower.
I am sure many of us came across these types in higher education. Educated morons.
Now this wouldn't be so much of a problem except there are so many of them in science today, and they put their ego far ahead of any genuine interest in science, as result they shout down any criticism or questioning of what they learned with the passion of religious zealots. Its was hard enough for a single voice to be heard 200 years ago when modern science was still in its infancy, now that voice is drowned out by a thousand lawn mower mechanics flinging Ad Hominems and rushing to protect their egos.

i just found out about her and I like her spunky german grandma vibes, though her video on free will was too fatalistic for me and downplays the role of willpower and determination in human achievement(even if these are "constructions" resulting from statistics and low level particles and brain structure, it's basically semantics to conclude "I did this" , "i was statistically programmed to conclude i did this", if the end result is functionally the same: the measurable results of exerting will power

She shills the pilot-wave theory, which is a deterministic and materialist fringe alternative to quantum mechanics. She's too dumb to comprehend true randomness. Not her fault cuz she's a woman, but it's the fault of society letting a dumb woman have a voice in science.

Back in university there was a really cute redhead in my complex analysis course but I never bothered to get to know her. No I regret it because I work as a computer programmer (yes I know) and the ability to meet smart women is literally 0.

I do the normal social shit, parties etc but smart girls don't seem to attend these things. Feels like I lost my one chance to get a smart gf but not jumping on it while at university.

That is a situation where during a perigee pass, there is the possibility to change the orbital inclination. So it is possible that near the end of the aerobraking sequence, the orbital inclination (currently 59 degrees) will be changed to a lower value, e.g. around 40 degrees as with previous X-37B missions in LEO

How? I mean, when the X-37B passes through the perigee, what is the relationship between it aerobraking a around 310 km and then doing the maneuver to change the inclination of the orbit? Aerobraking isn't sort of an equivalent to making an opposite intrack thrust?

The only real trouble with Physics and Mathematics I see at the moment is that complete misalignment between reality and the "real" numbers.
Other than that anything Mathematics appears also to be a thing in physical reality, which while being nothing but "anecdotal evidence" (at a ridiculously large scale) gives credibility to the axioms we use.
>>
>>16411692
Always has been.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g79_5OMns8
>>
>>16451982
The axioms are of course credible by virtue of empirical evidence so far; it's why deductions built upon them are useful in predicting the reality that we know right now.
But when you are talking about "saving the Foundation" you are talking about somehow proving these axioms are more than just induced generalizations based on observations. It's about proving them to be eternal truths beyond reproach.
That cannot be done.

>current rate of stagnation in materials science
matsci is like the one field that isn't stagnated rn
>>16411692
i think there are multiple elements of this. there's the overrecruitment of physicists, which leads to poor mentorship and overall student growth at the undergraduate level, which naturally leads to poorer performance in postgraduate work (which is already a small percentage of physics graduates relative to fields like bio or chem).
there's also the fact that the best institutions hold the lion's share of (already qUaNTuM nonsense-focused, because our bureaucrats are retards) funding. however, in a field where every last thing is a bajillion dollars, this makes it impossible for any meaningful competition or collaboration on the level required to make nuke-tier breakthroughs.
thus we turn to computational physics, where the most interesting/fruitful problems are those that supplement other fields (biophysics, comp chem, etc.) any distinct fields of physics then become abandoned because of market conditions.
>>
>>16452656
"Saving the Foundations" in my eyes means to ensure the axioms are consistent and generally give results that match observations in reality, which already appears to be the case with the Mathematics we are working with these days.
They don't need to be able to make statements about fucking everything. If there are undecidable things, that's completely fine, as long as things usually work out nicely.
There also doesn't need to be anything absolutely irreplaceable about the axioms. You could think up completely equivalently powerful systems of Mathematics.
>>
>>16453570
Mathematical abstraction implies that any singular mathematical explanation can have other explanations so long as they mimic their composition matches a given form.
So, if the acceleration of a projectile is determined to be caused by gravity, the element that is acceleration can be broken down into many different formula that describe that constant acceleration. For example, the gravity equation between two masses replaces the typical acceleration constant. But it could be other things as well. A formula is insufficient to prove itself.
>>

Yes, just like all of "Modern Academia". There is no "profit" is pure science, on the contrary you can only lose money, and the more questions you answer definitively, the more "specialties" you make obsolete. They can't all be right, after all.

She's one of the "smart" ones that realized that there is no "goal", or "purpose" to "Modern Physics". No one is actually trying to "solve problems", or "fix" things, they just want another "collider" to look at "muh particles n' seeeit". Pro Tip: there are no "particles" and there never were. Yet, we have "particle physicists" and "string theorists" all the same. Even they know they're full of shit.

The issue is ego. "Smart" people can't possibly do "regular" jobs of the Proletariat, so they must be made glorified wards of the state, just like very "Dumb" people who also cannot exist without tax payer support.

Once they're in the Welfare Industrial Complex, they know not to rock the boat, or it's all over, espeically if you're one of those ebil White Men. They're already looking for a way to get rid of your ass already, so you WILL shut-up and fall inline, or "you will no longer have a place in this department" ;)

Stupid is, as stupid does and these "really smart" guys sure do act stupid ;)

Lots of YT folks do this unironically because it's easier to edit vids that may have been shot at separate times/different outfits.

If you have your "YT shirt(s)" it's very easy just throw it on for all your recordings, so you never have to go back and re-record to make two different outfits match.

Crude, but effective.

If you can design a better lawn mower please go ahead and do it. There are real problems in academia, but your post just reads like another crackpot that hasn't done the work to understand theoretical physics but still wants to be the next Einstein.

Physics is dying because we let women try it.

It's not "the women", it's "the humanities", which have taken over complete control of the academics and are killing it with "joy" in order to finally fucking end mankind. FOR JUSTICE! So if you disagree with them, you are a Nazi.

If you aren't German, you wouldn't understand.
The German railway system is the bane of the German people.
Its performance is completely at odds with our stereotypical reputation and it hurts hard as fuck like you wouldn't believe.

Physicists HATE the idea of FTL travel being impossible because that would mean we'll always be trapped in our small corner of the universe, and it would also explain why we will never encounter alien civilizations (we are too far away for spaceships or even communications to reach each other's spheres of influence).

I *THINK* there has to be a natural limit on the speed of information flow, because otherwise you'd necessarily end up with inconsistencies. And it would also ruin neat short-cuts allowing to skimp on computational effort in simulations.
And that both sounds like something physicists would HATE even more than there being no means of FTL.
If human FTL travel is possible, it wouldn't surprise me, if it lead to a split of continuities. The people doing FTL will be in a different world than the people that have not.
Limited human interstellar travel at less than the speed of light most likely is going to happen in one way or the other - unless mankind erases itself before that -, but it's probably going to be a one-way trip for most riders.

>Is modern physics just a cashgrabbing circlejerk?
Yes.
Neither quantum nor gravity exists.
They can't tell what REALLY exists, because you all need to think we are very short on energy and the oligarchs controlled energy - such as oil - will soon run out. So you need to pay crazy prices and be energy slave .

However. As soon as you realize all this quantum and gravity is a circle jerk and is all wrong.
You may be able immediatly find massive sources of energy all around you and all over the planet .
And the oil monopolists and oligarchs really don't like that.

>the reasons physics has failed is that it uses cult techniques to market itself to normies
No , it's what I said above. So that nobody randomly finds the real physics and basically massive storages of free energy everywhere.
