Any shot of electric aircraft ever matching or surpassing the speed of the current varieties of jet planes?Assuming the energy storage issue is solved, of course.
>>16476647There's two ways this could happen as far as I'm aware (both are a long shot). We'd need to either:a) Discover new mechanisms of electrically driven propulsion that are orders of magnitude more efficient in terms of J (mechanical work)/J (energy used)b) Discover new mechanisms of electrical energy storage that are orders of magnitude more dense in terms of J (electrical energy)/kg (battery material).Without either of these things, electrical passenger aircraft is basically dead in the water except for super short range recreational craft. If you need 3 tons additional weight for your batteries and can only go 1/3rd the distance of a combustion turbine based airliner, you're going to have troubles.
>>16476647Almost, if you charge the batteries with turbine engines.
>>16476647Don't think so but why not use some biofuel instead? Current energy storage is so hard to produce in a eco friendly sense that traditional methods sound better so why bother in the first place?
>>16476647the bad part about electric planes is that they weigh the same at takeoff as they do when they arrive at their destination and used up most of the fuel, so not very efficient.
>>16477350Same with cars?
>>16477350just drop spent batteries
>>16476647It's a not very secret secret that Boeing is going to be split, with the aviation portion being merged in with the newly minted GE Aerospace. If electric aircraft engines are economically viable (not just greenwash), this merger should help make it happen as both the engine and the aircraft will be designed by the same company, though for competitive reasons, probably different divisions.
>>16476647>Assuming the energy storage issue is solvedMight as well assume zero air resistance and antigravity if you go full soft scifi
>>16476647No, electricity is just too hard to store. Easier to just make liquid fuels with solar.
>>16476647>the energy storage issueNot an issue at all, since the Ether contains unfathomable amounts of energy. You need implosion-based, point source tech to access and harness its potential though. Every scientist and inventor who tried doing it got whacked in the past by TPTB
The reason planes don't go faster is because there would be sonic booms if they went any faster which would piss too many people off. An electric plane wouldn't change that, they would have to develop planes to have different aerodynamic properties.
>>16476647Electric motors aint gonna cut it but i don't see any reason why beam powered rocket engines couldn't work inside the atmosphere. Theys fully electric.>>16476899>>16477719Based synthfuel chads.>>16477765Based schizo chad
