>A message from JPL Director Dave Gallagher

>In order to best position JPL going forward, we are taking steps to restructure and establish an appropriate size to ensure future success. As part of this effort, JPL is undergoing a realignment of its workforce, including a reduction in staff. This reduction — part of a reorganization that began in July and not related to the current government shutdown — will affect approximately 550 of our colleagues across technical, business, and support areas. Employees will be notified of their status on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Over the past few months, we have communicated openly with employees about the challenges and hard choices ahead. This week’s action, while not easy, is essential to securing JPL’s future by creating a leaner infrastructure, focusing on our core technical capabilities, maintaining fiscal discipline, and positioning us to compete in the evolving space ecosystem — all while continuing to deliver on our vital work for NASA and the nation. We are grateful for the contributions of our departing colleagues, whose work has advanced exploration and innovation in ways that benefit us all.

>A Centaur second-stage rocket is lowered into the vacuum tank inside the Space Power Chambers at NASA’s Lewis Research Center. Centaur was to be paired with an Atlas booster to send the Surveyor spacecraft to the moon as a precursor to the Apollo landings. Lewis was assigned responsibility for the Centaur Program after the failure of its first developmental flight in May 1962. Lewis’ Altitude Wind Tunnel was converted into two large test chambers—the Space Power Chambers. The facility’s vacuum chamber, seen here, allowed the Centaur to be stood up vertically and subjected to atmospheric conditions-- pressures, temperature, and radiation--similar to those it would encounter in space.

none of these are operational flights. V3 will be the first operational starship that will be launching actual payloads. They aren't going to ramp up cadence until they can demonstrate operational capability. soonest they can start ramping up cadence is like flight 20+ or something once they have ironed out the kinks with the v3 design and have more than a few successful payload deployments and reuses under their belt.

Just came back from the vet and missed the flight because of my cat, then watched the stream.
Well, except a few minor issues that you could nitpick, that looked fucking flawless.
Nice dummy sat deploy without them hitting the door on the way out
Multi track drifting at 10,000+ km/h
Steering the glide at subsonic speeds
everything held up pretty well despite literally intentionally missing tiles, no major explosions or burnthrough.
Both booster and ship made a soft spashdown and could probably have been caught if at a landing zone that supports catch.

I'm practically certain that even this V2 starship version is already a fully functional rocket that theoretically could have circularized the orbit and deployed actual useful payload this mission, basically all they've left to do for v3 is to min-max the shit outta it and increase performance / payload capacity.
While flight 10 was already pretty good, I think this 11th flight one once and for all cements the fact that starship IS happening. Its now just a question of when, not if.
Eternal nay-sayers like thunderfoot eternally BTFO, huge win for SpaceX and Elon Musk.

I'm guessing reason for the deadline is so the bandwidth doesn't sit unused, so you are probably right. It's a decent argument in any case since this isn't an industry where you can just enter it overnight. On the otherhand the FCC has a counterargument that they should have booked more SpaceX launches. They likely still get an extention regardless. Would be funny if the extension included a requirement to launch on F9/Starship.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX and xAI are buying Tesla’s unsold Cybertrucks

>Hundreds of Tesla Cybertrucks have been spotted being delivered Elon Musk’s private companies, SpaceX and xAI, as Tesla is having issues selling the electric pickup truck.
>Cybertruck turned out to be Tesla’s first real commercial flop.
>After planning for a production capacity of over 250,000 units per year, Tesla is currently selling the pickup truck at a rate of ~20,000 units annually.
>Elon Musk has a solution: he had his private companies buy hundreds if not thousands of Cybertrucks.
>Several truckloads of Cybertruck were spotted being delivered to xAI’s offices this weekend.
>Furthermore, SpaceX has taken delivery of hundreds of Cybertrucks at Starbase of the last week and it is expected to take delivery of hundreds, if not thousands more in the coming weeks.
>Wes Morrill, the Cybertruck lead engineer, commented on the delivery and said that SpaceX, along with Tesla, is replacing its support fleet with the Cybertruck.

It's called a "dacha" in Russian. Basically a plot of land you own outside of the city, which is used for relaxation and/or gardening. This AI summary says that it's rented, but this isn't usually the case here.
>>
>>16815862
isn't dacha a small cottage? we have those plots of land that can be rented for gardening here too but they are separate things (I guess you could do some gardening on a cottage too, but here most people use them for relaxation in the summer to get outside the city)

A dacha usually has a cottage on it. But the word refers to the whole plot of land, not just the house. Also, I've never heard about someone renting a dacha. I guess it's technically possible, but my family's dacha (pic related) and all of the neighboring ones are owned.

How is that even going? I want to follow chinkspace stuff but they make it really hard and never care about updates or promotion
>>
How will spacex recover now that we know ship is only getting caught in 2027?

because of Elon Derangement Syndrome
or just because having a baldy in charge is less threatening to fragile egos
>>
>>16815665
Because Bezos doesn't threaten people publically and isn't autistic.
They're both ZOG'd anyway

>A quick $5-10 package for simple basic voice/text/low speed internet is all I need.
I get that from Tracfone, lately it's been about $80 for 13 months when I renew because I select one regular month, then use the "add one year airtime" option or something like that.

It's had a waiting line since the start, but I don't think they're charging what it actually costs. It's just a toy for BeƱos to say "look at me, I can into space" while he takes 20 years to catch up with what F9 perfected years ago.
And it's not useful except as an amusement ride. The things you can do with a sounding rocket are quite limited.

Aren't the chinks not even bothering to deorbit their launch vehicles for that shit?
Fucking chinks will be the actual cause of Kessler syndrome, unless the poos step up their game.

>gets magic space internet for 12 mins per day
kek
Long way to go, maybe they don't have to hit as many orbits though if they just want to provide for China
>>16815900
Last thing I saw was that there's a few hundred of the most serious risks and they're basically all Chinese and Russian satellites that never had a deorbit plan

Stop being gay. You're trying to recreate discord. This ends with you chopping your dick off, hanging yourself and me spamming the YWNBAW copypasta at your grieving relatives (who are internally just relieved).

Yeah, they're exposed to a lot of risk if everyone everywhere decides to stop using the internet all at once for no reason and without any replacement. [comment about your IQ omitted as too obvious]

This is like pre-melty Elon, when he was beloved by reddit circa 2020.
>>
>>16815982
There was already some melties back in ~2018 when Musk wanted to use a mini sub to save some kids in Tailand. The chief diver said no, and Musk called him a pedo. That was the first time I saw reddit turning against him.
