Without him, our rotation would be Mclean, Sproat, Tong, Peterson and Manaea. Sure, it sounds good at a baseline level, but that rotation being good enough for the Mets to get where they want to be, is almost completely reliant on Tong and Sproat being the pitchers they were in the minor leagues, which is a risk I'm not willing to take. This is without even thinking about what we'd get in return for Senga. Which quite frankly isn't a lot. For the receiving team, he's an asset that can be a genuine #2, but he's also on a multi-year deal that makes it hard for a team to get rid of him, there's also the matter of a team that has something we don't already have that are willing to trade for him.
