The worst part is how quick Nasser fired him when he was doing well with a cancerous lockeroom
>>
>>150534393
Way to rewrite history uh?
The start of the season was awful, tuchel was constantly moaning about transfers, he had managed to have the sport director demoted and he wanted the new sport director to fuck off, he on his own decided to do interviews where he criticized the club. Let's not forget he made shitters join the club. He failed and got fired for it. Now I must admit that lucho is a lucky mofo, at least with football. He joined at the perfect moment with a competent sport director and the full confidence of the club, he didn't to deal with messi, made Neymar and verrait leave and had excellent players to join the club.
>>
>>150535287
Same coach who got PSG its first UCL final btw.

He was unjustly sacked and you know it.
>moaning about transferts
Yes and? He wanted players that fit HIS plan. The only reason Enrique succeeded is because Nasser and the other fuckers at the PSG direction bent over for Enrique and he was able to build a team around his identity. Tuchel wasn't given this treatment. And Tuchel immediately succeeded afterward with Chelsea for the same reason Enrique did with PSG. So I really don't get your point.
>>
>>150535333
Yep, rewriting history. The 2020 cl was a bullshit format with one leg games during covid, PSG had an europa league tier run, tuchel succeeded at Chelsea with a squad he didn't choose, the following season when he could buy the players he wanted, he failed. He's an overrated manager who doesn't know how to pick players and who always have issues with his player and his bosses. Stop behaving like a woman, respect the truth

To me, one of the saddest recent death in French Football history is Tours. Okay the club wasn't great, and a "low tier" legendary status club like a Red Star or AS Cannes, but this club was a milestone of central France, like Orleans. The fact they disappeared for good earlier this year is an infamy.
>>
Hell, Giroud fucking played there, he should have give them a fat check to insure their survival. I don't understand why pros never or BARELY give enough money to make their first or clubs that open them the gate of becoming a star in good condition. If i was a multimillionnaire pro, i would have either become a shareholder of my first club or... give them a quick million to set them good for years.

And some hopeful thoughts for AS Nancy Lorraine that is doing a surprisingly good turnaround and seem to be headed in the right direction after a pretty painful fall.

Which of these teams is the most soulful? I used to semi-support Lyon but I found out they're posh and their fans are right-wing so I'm having to re-pick. Marseille was another team I liked when I was younger but now they have Greenwood and are too much of an easy non-PSG pick.
So I've narrowed it down to:
>ASSE
>RC Lens
>Nantes
>Toulouse

I've been told that Nantes historically play very soulful attacking football but that the current management set up doesn't do it. Also their colours kind of suck and remind me of Norwich City.
I'm leaning towards AS Saint-Etienne because of their history, kits and a decent UK band named themselves after them.

merci

Honesly right now? Gottta be RC Lens.
Peak homely working class ambiance, and the club managed lately to purchase their historical stadium, a proper English looking Stadium, so you'll feel right at home watching them play
>>
>>150596317
>ASSE
>RC Lens
A bit similar in what they represent : both were THE historical blue-collar, factory clubs in France. each had its own rivalry with the nearby big city full of fancy people. With Lyon in ASSE's case and Lille for Lens.
Right now though, ASSE has been mismanaged by its current owners for a while and have been doing pretty poorly for a moment. They're stuck being a yo-yo-club right now.
Lens on the other hand is having a pretty impressive revival.
Both of them are considered to have some of if not the best stadium atmospheres and crowds in France. Lens notoriously has a stadium that can seat more people than live in the city itself.
I guess it can come down to "norf vs saff" although Saint Etienne isn't exactly that southern. Lens is proper north though, complete with a carnival giant wearing the RC Lens jersey.
>Nantes
Right now the club is a shadow of its former self. The days of the "nantaise style" of attacking football is in the past. Clubs just don't really have a style of play as part of their identity anymore. You can't be identified by your play style long term when an average coaching tennure lasts 3 seasons.
The supporters are still pretty dedicated despite the ups and downs and the weird ownership decisions. I was in Nantes for their Coupe de France win in 23 and let me tell you the city was going absolutely wild. Fireworks in the plazas, people climbing the fountains, monuments and scaffoldings in town, packed crowds all over the place.
Pretty involved in its regional derbies over Nantes being or not being in Bretagne depending on who you ask.
>Toulouse
I really don't know that much about it, the south-west is a big geographic blindspot of mine, I've never been there.
I follow some rugby so if the TéFéCé supporters are anything like the Stade Toulousain guys, it should be pretty nice because they have the best crowd in french rugby.
The club itself has never been that great in terms of performance.

Same anon but I'm not bored at my work computer in Luxembourg.
Trust me when I say I want nothing more than /myguys/ to do well but the Loire Valley just isn't a very sportsy place, trying to get some traction around clubs like SCO is an uphill battle. SCO, Tours, Orléans, Le Mans don't have very strong identities or traditions with their supporters. Nothing really does, it's not like the south-west where rugby gets all the attention.
It's still kind of a "sunny days" club. When things are good, people show up. When they're not, the stadium is almost empty. It's something the players themselves complained about because when big teams come to play, it's been described as a home game for the visiting team. More people come to support PSG or OM than our home club.
It's sad but that's just how it is.
The 24 promotion night was K I N O though, lasted all the way to like 3 in the morning with the club wheeling out the parade bus.

And if you're going to pay attention to some Ligue 2 (the second best league in the world, source : me) then
>LIGUE 2 QRD and SOVL indicator
>Amiens SC
One of the "what-ifs" of northern football, they've spent ages in National and everyone wondered if they'd ever have it in them to climb to Ligue 2. They did in 2015-16. And in 2016-17 they climbed to Ligue 1 at the end of the most unbelievably KINO title race in recent memory. No, seriously, look it up, it even has an writeup on english language wikipedia.
They have a really nice stadium too, and pretty good attendance.
>Annecy
Low-table mountain boys. Had one of the weirdest incident happen to them a few seasons ago which started one of the most unusual rivalries. At the very end of the 22-23 season, Annecy was in a relegation battle. So was Rodez, which was playing in Bordeaux. During the game, a guy jumped into the pitch and punched one of the Rodez players leading to the cancellation of the match and putting the relegation race in a really weird spots because this cancellation could lead to Rodez getting a default win which would mean Annecy would be relegated. It then turned out that the guy was from Annecy, leading some to speculate he was trying to shift the game against Rodez to help Annecy stay up. The club put out a statement saying this was a betrayal of competition and they would not accept this outcom, the club owner announced he would sue Rodez for financial compensation. Rodez ownership accused them of underhandedly promoting violence. There has been some bad blood between the two ever since.
In the end, Annecy was scheduled to be relegated but wasn't because of shenanigans surrounding the financial situation in Sochaux. It's complicated.

>Bastia
One of the historical corsican clubs meaning there will be regional rivalries and violence and constant chaos with ownership and finances. That's just how they roll in Corsica.
The pitch can get horrendous because of the hot weather too, sometimes games are pretty much played on dirt.
>Boulogne
I know absolutely nothing about them, they get promoted to Ligue 2 and had some good days in the 90s, I was too young to remember that. Sorry :c
>Clermont Foot 63
Clermont is one of THE rugby cities in France. The local rugby club, ASM, is one of the best clubs in France and one of the better clubs in Europe. For decades, that caught all the love of the city and football had very little presence.
IIRC CF63 was created in the mid 90s and only became professionnal in the late 2000s. They're kind of a Ligue 2 mainstays although they did play two seasons in Ligue 1 recently, then dropped and barely escaped relegation to National. Currently in a bit of a financial hole because they are expanding on their delightfuly lobsided stadium. I will forever miss the absurdity of assymetrical Gabriel Montpied. Pic related.
>Dunkirk
A pretty recent arrival into Ligue 2. IIRC they got promoted in 2022. Then they were pretty bad in the first half of the 22-23 season. Then they moneyballed their way through the winter transfer window. The second half of their 22-23 season was the best of ANY club in a first or second division in the top 6 european leagues, it was INSANE to witness. They seemed ready to be a yo-yo-club between National and Ligue 2 and with one transfer window they became a promotion contender. They've made the promotion playoff every time since but always came short.
Also their stadium is tiny, is built pretty low and that's a problem because it's a very windy town so they have to learn to play without too many crosses otherwise their big plans could be thwarted by a random gust of wind.
>>
>Grenoble
The other mountain club. Used to be the weeb club : in the 2000s they were owned by a japanese corporation that played up the "nippon connection" angle for the club's identity going so far as to hae the creator of Captain Tsubasa design mascots for the club. Said corporation horribly mismanaged the club, so much so that it went through liquidation in 2011. it was recreated after that and had to restart from scratch. They got back up to Ligue 2 in 2018 and have managed to become stable there ever since.
>En Avant Guingamp
One of the "village clubs". Pretty much the pet projects of then billionnaire Noel Le Graet who from there became increasingly involved in french football and the french FA until he was housted recently for being a corrupt sex pest. The club is pretty involved in the breton derbies as it represents inland Bretagne (while also not being Rennes). Notorious for its stadium that has a capacity of 19k while Guingamp has a population of 7000.
>Laval
The infamous "minimum wage clubs", home of the "SMICards du football". Hosted in a pretty blue-collar town that most people can't place on a map because nobody ever, EVER goes to Mayenne, there's nothing to do there if you're not a farmer or a factory worker and it's not even in some scenic, picturesque mountains. Still has some pretty dedicated support considering how bad the club has performed at points and how small the city of Laval is. Once changed their logo through a contest and the winner is rumoured to have traced a frame of Captain Tsubasa.

>Le Mans
Utter shite, horrible, burn them down
>t. turo-angevin in exile
In all seriousness, the club was actually part of an interesting project that has been completely memoryholed. Insurance company MMA, historically from Le Mans, had plans with the city to expand on the reputation of the area based on the 24h race and turn Le Mans into an event epicenter for the west of the country, between Paris and Nantes, to compete with the scene-heavy Angers and Tours. A lot was invested into building a new huge stadium and increasing the club's scope. The stadium had France's first naming contract for a sport venue, calling it the MMArena. IIRC it was not the first in Europe but not that far. And now naming contracts for stadiums are all over the place. The full project did not pan out that well : Le Mans played 6 seasons in Ligue 1 IIRC, dropped and kept dropping. They're back in Ligue 2 for the first time in years and plays in a mostly empty oversized stadium.
>Montpellier
One of the last family-owned clubs though that is now starting to be an issue. Had a miracle run just as PSG was bought up by the qatari and then firmly stood in the middle of the table. hings eroded over time and they just got relegated to Ligue 2. Have a stadium in notoriousy bad shape.
>Nancy-Lorraine
Wenth through the whole gauntlet recently : historical club in its area, had some good times in the past decades. Got bought up and things went south, DNCG made things worse... And somehow they are now bouncing and regenerating. Not that long ago, a lot of the owners sold their shares leaving the club with only two owners who decided to invest more. The club called back historical coach Pablo Correa and they are climbing their way back to the top, who know where they will stop? Just a few seasons abo with Pedretti as their coach it looked like they would be a fallen giant but things are looking up now.

>Pau FC
Another historical rugby town. Except the project to make Pau a football town too is a lot older. in the 90s, there were big plans and huge spendings to try and brute-force promotion. It did not work, the club went through several insolvencies and had to start all over. RIght now, they are somewhat stable in Ligue 2. They've changed stadium a lot and right now play in the smallest venue in pro french football, one of the smallest in the pro circuits in Europe with just 4000 seats. They call it the Nouste Camp. Cheeky.
>Red Star
Historically the workers' club of the parisian area. So historical infact that its name and imagery actually predate the use of the red star as a symbol by communists. It has had a lot of ups and downs in its long history and right now it's in a weird spot. It is a historically blue collar club that is owned by an american corporation but it's still struggling as a yo-yo club between Ligue 2 and National. Some oldheads have been complaining about the club becoming gentrified with some detached "supporters" coming towards it for political reasons more than anything. They climbed back up to Ligue 2 last season and spent most of it in a relegation battle.
>Reims
One of the fallen giants of french football. They were THE dominant club in the 50s with five titles between 1949 and 1960 and two cups and they made the final of the first edition of the champion's league in 56. Bad financial decisions in the 80s led to insolvancy in 91 and the club has been rebuilding ever since. They used to have the oldest supporter organizations in France IIRC the Allez Reims group started in the 1930s, but was dissolved after the club went bankrupt. It was retooled into the still existing Ultrem group.
>>
>Rodez
We've talked about them with Annecy. They are pretty stable in the mid to lower part of the Ligue 2 table, having been there for 6 seasons or so. It's nice to see them here because Rodez is a small town in a part of the south-south-west that is more of a rugby territory. Still very much a small-town club and happy to be one, known for its cordial supporters : they are not even trying to grow any sort of ultra movement, it's just not going to work in a place that has more of a rugby influence and it's more fun to have a beer with the visiting team's kop. Constantly on a shoestring budget even on the Ligue 2 scale. Fun fact : Zidane is one of the clube's shareholder.
>ASSE
The eternal question is : will they be able to climb up this season? And if not, how hard will we laugh at them?
>Troyes/ESTAC
The city of Troyes has had several pro clubs to do fairly well and then explode or be forced to merge. The current club, ESTAC, started in the late 80s and had some good days in the early 2000s going so far as to win an Intertoto cup. And then it's been changes in ownership, ups and downs between Ligue 1 and 2 with some catastrophic relegations followed by complete domination over the second division. They've been bought up by the City Group and contrary to what one might think, it did not help the club get better, if anything it's been throwing it into a bad downward spiral. They were supposed to be relegated in 23 but stayed up because Bordeaux was administratively relegated instead. They gave Jean-Marc Furlan his first pro gig as a coach. If you know, you know.

>>
>>150619701
I've been there for an event and it's a pretty nice stadium.
It's just really, REALLY oversized for the club.
Even in Ligue 1, they averaged at 10k in their 25k capacity venue. They've almost filled it for their promotion playoff game and that was the first time they got close to full capacity.
>>
>>150619279
I really don't understand how Reims fell off this hard and was never able to get back on their feet like a serious Ligue 1 top 10 team. Sainté, LOSC, Strasbourg or Bordeaux all have/had their period as a 4-10 seed in the league for a s couple years, but everytime Reims was ligue 1, it was only to be second half or relegation battle team.

Can a kind frenchie give me a QRD on OGC Nice? Their history, their fans, their politics, how they're viewed in general etc.
My mum retired to a small town near Nice so I might go to some matches when I visit her.
All I know about them is that their kit is pretty cool, especially the old school ones.
>>
>>150681541
they're the "racist" club.
>>
>>150681541
They're a meme club honestly. They have all the factors to perform as a football club because Nice and the people from there are 1. Ultra-parochial, as in maybe proudly French now but really see themselves as a separate tribe from Marseillais or any southern city for example, because of the Piemontese influence, and 2) it's the one southern city outside Marseilles that doesn't have any serious rugby fans (Lyon is a football city but they have a ton of rugby fans too).
But like everything in Nice it's ruined by their corruption, their willingness to sell themselves or their mother or their dignity (see Jean Pormanove and his 2 mates, basically classic Niçois subhuman scum who are in the OGN Nice block - autists, Arabs who vote FN/RN without any irony, and Italians) and the fact that the rich people there are extreme snobs or parvenus so don't want to invest in the football team. Now the Ineos dude is there pumping money into them.
They're the one team though who go to derbies via scooter (to Monaco) or via boat (to Bastia) so that's pretty kino

>>
>>150685039
lol i dunno, maybe Toulouse? Southern France isn't that good in Football anyway besides OMerde, Monaco, and some casual meme teams like Nice, Montpellier. Bordeaux used to, but not anymore because of the fucking DNCG, the organism that gets a boner in killing every good soulful French clubs.
>>
>>150685039
Of you count Grenoble as South then maybe them.
Otherwise probably Toulouse (but they prefer rugby) Montpellier (similar to Toulouse), Nîmes, or the most soulful Cannes which is a historic club, first club of Zidane and gets decent crowd in lower tier in small stadium
>>
>>150685244

FC Rouen is the historical club of the city with a solid fanbase, they first played in 1st division in 1936-37 (fifth season of L1) and stayed in 1st divison between 1960 and 1970 but they are mostly a 2nd division club, they had money problems and fell down in amateur divisions at one point but their fanbase (of an impressive size for the division they play in) never left
QRM (Quevilly Rouen Metropole) is historically US Quevilly which for the greatest part of its existence has been an amateur club (played only 2 seasons in 2nd division in the last century), they were known for accomplishing impressive feats in coupe de france (for example they reached the final while being in 3rd division in 2012) and have been considered one of the best amateur clubs france, in 2015 the club started a project with FCR (like sharing money but keeping the 2 teams distinct and making both of them play in rouen's stadium) and renamed themselves QRM, but FCR left the project like 2 years later, QRM chose to keep the name and still plays in rouen's stadium
FCR fans hate the idea of QRM coming to play in their own stadium and putting "rouen" in their name (quevilly is just next to rouen but of course isn't rouen), they often sing "one city, one club, FC Rouen" and there is a rivalry between the 2 clubs now, but FCR's fanbase is much bigger than QRM's (which is logical because they are an historical amateur club and only played in 2nd division like 5 seasons)

Brit here again with some questions for my frenchie (and other) brothers.
Firstly, can someone do a quick rundown of the Ligue 1 clubs e.g. their history, their vibe, their fans, their politics, their sovlfulness levels?
Secondly, are there any good French football podcasts or youtubers/youtube channels? I'm learning French and would like to have some footy stuff to listen to.
And lastly, is the L1 fantasy football good/popular? I was thinking of starting it to get a better understanding of teams and players, but the interface of lots of fantasy football things that aren't EPL are quite bad.

Merci beaucoup!

Let's do this again
If someone is moe familiar with any given club, doi feel free to expend or correct me.
>Angers SCO
Small club, small following. Angers is in kind of a "sporting deadzone". Not a lot of passion for football, no excuse of it being siphooned by already popular rugby club as is the case in the south-west, or mountain sports and boating taking all the attention. The lower Loire valley just isn't that passionate. Sleazy business by the club owner certainly isn't helping : man's been in court for sexual assault, tax evasion and illegally acting as an agent for his players.
Had a "golden decade" starting in the early 2010s, peaking with their promotion to Ligue 1 in 2014 and a couple solid finishes after that. Immediately became a lower table, relegation candidate afterwards.
Came very close to having the absolute worst season in league history in 22-23 where everything went wrong. They're going to be in the relegation battle this season.
>Auxerre
One of the historical clubs. It's a small town club that has punched way above its weight at many points and was a springboard for a ton of great players. Cantona, Cissé, Laurent Blanc, Sagna and that's off the top of my head.
Also notorious for having had the same coach, Guy Roux, for 40 years, who would tour around nightclubs to check that his players weren't in there and pull them out of there if they were.
Had a rough time in the 2010s. Was bought up by a chinese billionaire who likes sports and wine so he bought a club in a wine-producing region.
Even when things are a bit rough in the second division, there's always some support for AJA.
>>
>>150737967
(cont.)
>Brest
One of the breton clubs, though not the most decorated. Used to be a lower half club, but has overhauled its management systems and structures and has now been acting very prudently and efficiently after being bought by a local businessman. And not a local guy who moved to Paris and became a banker, no, the guy sells youghurt and cheese.
The club is run on a shoestring budget, one of the lowest in the league yet they're managing to stay well afloat if not thrive : they have the fifth lowest budget in the league yet have recently finished 9th and 3rd. Made some waves by making it to the UCL and out of the league stage there.
>Le Havre
TECHNICALLY one of the oldest football clubs in the world. Won the most second division titles of any french club. As you can guess, that means they spend a lot of time in the second division, more than the first.
Have not changed their colours in over a century which is actually quite rare when you look at really old clubs. Prompted a "conflict" with Nike because they could only order their kit on catalog (they're not big enough to warrant a fully custom job from Nike) and Nike didn't have the right shades of blue for them, so for a few seasons the club made its own kits with local factories so they wouldn't have to play in the wrong shades of blue.
Its own supporter groups are shareholders of the club.
>>
>>150737967
(cont.)
>Lens
Another historical club here. THE blue collar club, set in a factory town where the stadium holds more people than the town's population. One of the best atmospheres in France during big games. Flags all over the place, drums, constant chanting. They've had a lot of ups and downs but the club has been on a bit of a renaissance after its ownership was consolidated around one man, with significant experience in banking, who managed to right the ship once more. We're talking about going from 17m worth of deficit to 3 in a few years, all while insisting on not raising ticket prices because he knows exactly the kind of people that support the club.
Are involved in a pretty big derby with...
>Lille
The big city, posh club opposite to Lens (do keep in mind though : any town in France is posh compared to Lens).
Right now they are one of the more stable upper-half clubs. The club has been pretty well managed for a while and well supported too : they play in one of the largest stadiums in the country and keep it full. On paper they are one of the most consistant clubs in the League. Their last season spent in the second division was in the late 90s IIRC. They are one of two clubs to break PSG's recent dynastic title runs.
Fun fact : the club was, for a while, owned in part by the city of Lille itself. It was privatized in the late 90s.
>>
>Lyon
Another proper historical club. THE club of the 2000s when they had an unmatched dynastic run : seven consecutive league titles, four cups. They've trained a ton of top players.
For a while, the club's owner and president Michel Aulas was a pretty vocal figure in french and european football and he kept defending his club and his league no matter what.
The last few years have been pretty shaky though. Aulas stepped down in 2023 and the club was purchased by notorious cowboy John Textor and OH BOY has it been a mess.
See, the club was financially in the red after overextending its activities so Textor had to find ways to keep things afloat without putting his own money in the hole and it did not fly. From the moment he bought his stake, the club was threatened with administrative relegation and was EXTREMELY close this summer, only escaping after being bailed by owner of the extremely successfull women's branch of the club, Michele Kang. But not before Textor sold or shuffled a bunch of the club's assets. I will never EVER forgive Kang for stealing a OL-ASSE derby played in Ligue 2 from us. It would have been the funniest shit.
Lyon is involved in two of the biggest derbies in french football. On one side, with Saint-Etienne, which won't happen this year because lol, lmao, ASSE in Ligue 2. On the other side with OM. The rivalry between the cities of Marseille and Lyon is historical and not just a question of sport, and things have gotten bad betwen the two clubs. Last season, during an away day at Marseille, the team bus was ambushed and thrown rocks and bottles at, resulting of then coach Fabio Grosso being hit in the face requiring several stitches... Away supporters are routinely banned for these games.
>>

(cont.)
>Lorient
Sometimes considered the "lesser" of the breton clubs.
They've been an amateur club for most of their history but have managed to remain a pro club since the 90s although for the most part they are kind of stuck being too good for Ligue 2, not good enough for Ligue 1. Right now, they promoted last season after one of the best Ligue 2 seasons in recent years. Overall, the kind of instability you can expect from a small club running on a very tight budget.
They are going HARD on their breton identity though and take the various breton derbies very seriously. They're not playing the title and they know it but it doesn't matter : putting the big guys at Rennes or Nantes in their place is what they live for.
A few seasons ago, tiny club Concarneau was in Ligue 2 but its stadium was way too small for league standards. Lorient offered its stadium for the club's home games. Nice. (for accuracy's sake : scheduling issues required Brest and Guingamp to do the same but the initiative started with Lorient. Nice.)
>Metz
Right now they are firmly stuck in the elevator. One season in Ligue 1, one season in Ligue 2. Regardless, they have a very solid supporter base no matter how bad performances get. WHen in Ligue 2, they have the best attendance in the league.
They've been the training ground fo a lot of talent along the way, especially for a club that has not always performed that well. In the 80s and 90s, they were a springboard for eastern-european players. Right now, they have invested a lot into scouting in Africa. Results may vary : you may hae heard of a guy called Sadio Mané for example.
Metz ultras are opently anti-racist and some suspect antifa overlap these days. As you can expect, openly anti-racist ultras did at points butt heads with groups closer to skinhead tendencies. Fun stuff.
>>
>>150737967
(cont.)
>Marseille
Another one of the really big dogs.
Their Vélodrome stadium is one of the most iconic ones in the country, it is constantly full, the club has one of the biggest supporter bases you could find.
To say the club is familiar with turmoil would be an understatement. Most notably, under the ownership of notorious sleazeball Bernard Tapie, the club won some titles and the Champions' League only to later find some match fixing was orchestrated by the club during the season. More recently, some executive turnaround got supporters angry, including the hiring of a director who didn't particularly care about football and suggested to the federation that "there should be a line past which a scored goal is worth two points, that could make the game more exciting on TV" and who missed games because he prefered being at the races since horse sports are his true life passion. YOu've recently had supporters invading club facilities, american ownership remaining distant, the loss of historical keeper and captain Mandanda on a free transfer, the typical manager waltz...
AND of course the recent locker room fight we all had a good giggle at.
With Marseille, you can never know if they will be second or twelfth by the end of the season but whatever the case you know it's going to be a rocky road and the someone will get punched in the face along the way.
>>
>>150737967
(cont.)
>Monaco
FUN FACT : they are the only club perhaps in the world to have more fervent support on away day than on home games.
Monaco proper is a tax heaven full of very rich yacht owners and jet-setters, not exactly the kind of people who support their local football club. Hence Monaco's reputation of playing in an empty stadium. And that's a shame because it's a beautiful stadium.
For the last 20 or so years, Monaco has done very well at being a profitable talent-farm. Some of it is done by (not always legally) poaching academy prospects from other youth facilities and giving them a clear railroad towards the senior team. It's been working okay. YOu might have heard of this guy called Killian MBappé.
They are one of two clubs to break PSG's recent dynastic title runs.
>Nantes
We've touched on them a bit in the thread, do scroll up.
>Nice
Monaco, but sleazy and with some occasionally violent and slightly racist ultras. Their ultra groups are regularly dissolved by the authorities after slight hiccups. Like that one time they threw an away supporter from the stands during a european game. Marseille-Nice games have been known to go south, on occasion.
They are one of the most stable clubs in the league though. If I'm not mistaken, only they and PSG have never gone down in the current format when we shifted from D1 to Ligue 1 in 2002.
>PSG
You know them, you love them or hate them or ou love to hate them.
Call them Doha Saint Germain, call them the Biggest Club In France™, call them "these guys who play in Jordan shorts".
>Paris FC
The history of the club is long and weird and complicated and for the longest time they were the big "what-if" of french football. And now it's no longer much of a what-if : they are in Ligue 1 for the first time in decades and we'll have to see where it goes from there. It's very much a new club as before their recent climb, attendences were not great.
>>
>>150737967
(alright we're done now)
>Rennes
Every season, it's the same song and dance.
Every season, there will be some very promising early games, people will ask if the club is serious this time and they will always, without fail, shit the bed and finish 5th max.
Other than that, they are the biggest breton club by size, but not by result. Despite always performing adequately and not having been relegated in 30 years, or particularly close to the bottom of the table in 10, they just never ever win when it really counts.
I suppose you could say it makes them the Tottenham of Ligue 1. Do they suck? Yes because they never win anything. Are they good? Yes because they never ever go down.
>Strasbourg
The more german of the french club in that for the longest time they had the most faithful supporter base. Not the biggest, but the one that did not shrink by one man when the club was administratively relegated back to amateur status and still pulled first division attendences.
Things have changed very quickly as of late when the club was purchased by BlueCo which has now started treating it like a farm or a dump for unwanted contracts. Just recently a player was basically announced as a BlueCo signing who would be in Strasbourg until a spot frees up in Chelsea. People were pissed.
>Toulouse
We talked about them a bit earlier in the thread too

OM vs Lorient
>Standings
Marseille : 10th. 1W 2L 0D. 3 points
Lorient : 15th. 1W 2L 0D. 3 points.
>the stakes
For Lorient, it's simple : this is one of their biggest games of the season and if they can score points today, that is a big win. It's all about bouncing from being trounced 1-7.
For OM, they need to course-correct after two losses and the whole Rabiot incident before it's too late. They're playing Real next week in the UCL so coming into this game after a draw or a loss to a bottom-feeder would not put everyone in the best spirits.

Nice. How are you finding it? I had trials at a club of a similar level and got a call back to train with them but I had busted my ankle at the trials so had to say I couldn't.
Looking to get back on it now and join a team.

I love teams with Racing in their name and their kit looks very nice too imo.
>>
>>150818716
I don't know it works in UK, but as far as France is concerned, on the FFF Website, you have the national database of every single clubs without any exception, even the pros, every single team (rather be 1st, 2nd, 3rd... U19, U17, U15, F etc...) which competition they currently play, which division, their standings, and the contact number of the club and in some case the social medias of the clubs. It's 100% free and open to the public.
So this is usually how we, look for either a local club, a prestigious one we want to join and or pass tests, follow them, and their results or look for basic infos. In your case, since you're interested in the Racing, I got you the FFF page for the club and their current teams:
https://epreuves.fff.fr/competition/club/539013-racing-club-de-france-football/equipes
You can tell the club is still pretty big a'd legendary status in Ile de France, considering the huge amount of teams and sections.

And if you're an active licensed player to the federation like me, you get your own account to get more info, schedules and alerts about your current club.

Interesting. I can't remember how it is in the UK as I haven't played amateur since I was 14, but we must have something similar these days. I played for my school and university first teams where we didn't have registries etc.
I'm going to start training with my local team in the next month or so hopefully. They're very open, do lots of stuff for the community and are well organised so it should be fun.
What position do you play, out of interest?

PFC is meme club, it exists for no other purpose than faggots who want a parisian derby, because they think if L1 doesn't imitate other leagues then we are mid
at least if it was red star, you could say "red star is the historical parisian club, PSG is plastic", but no, its fucking paris FC, people from paris have no reason to start supporting the club instead of PSG

There was an interruption for one season though, we dropped in 23 and climbed back from Ligue 2 in 24.
This is our second season since coming back.
I don't feel particularly safe this season, especially now that we've shipped Lepaul to Rennes to pay the bills and will have to rely on Jim Allevinah who scored more goals in 24-25 playing as a substitute for the Gabon national team than for the club.

It's obvious your Lynx ass wasn't even born when that game happened.
Marseille was playing for the top 5 when PSG was completely irrelevant that season.

I am currently revelling in the fact that Ligue 1 is more competitive right now than the English Plumbers' League.

Yes.

>>
>>150950136
Y'a intérêt.

"Antoine Kombouaré is the worst coah I have ever had. I was considering leaving when he was there. That was in the balance for me : if Kombouaré remains, I am leaving."
"I need to feel trusted and when Luis Castro arrived, I immediately saw that he believed in me.
"You will see, this year FC Nantes will not play to stay up but will compete for european spots. We have a lot of ambitions with our new coach. He appreciates his players, understands their potential and has a winning mentality."
