>be richest country
>land to spare
>invent a sport high demmanding of equipment, support infrastructure, and complex rules
>completely self sentered and insular

Too expensive.

It cannot compete with the ease of just having a ball-ish object that is football.

The americans got sdo rich they evolved around an atrocious sport that's unable to scale or appeal to other publics.

In a way, its the ultimate expression of modern america

They're thinking about us again, Americhads

I like handegg, it it a strategy game as much as physical. It is impossible for third worlders (Brazilians) to comprehend more than "kick ball forward". Unfortunately, very few bars in this country show it except down in Lisbon

I find it hard to believe that poverty is an actual barrier anymore to non-soccer sports as much as thirdies profess. That never stopped poor hispanic baseball countries. The real poverty is in imagination.

they don't have that either down in the colonies

It "failed" to expand globally in the same way Aussie-rules football did - they didn't have sailors travelling around the world bringing their sports with them. Association football had first mover advantage. The "high demmanding of equipment, support infrastructure, and complex rules" aren't really factors, you can dumb down handegg into a poverty sport as well (both teams line up, one team has the ball and passes it forward after the word "go" - done.)
A lot of football clubs around the world were founded either by Brits or by people inspired by Brits.

The USA during that time period was very much still in their isolationist period where as the British were the Economic Hegemon with colonies all over the world. And baseball was our most popular sport till the 90s

When it was invented it didn’t require the current amount of equipment. The helmet for example was the American way of dealing with high tackles, helmets weren’t part of the game at the beginning
