England invented rugby league and it is a popular sport there for over 120 years and they have never won the rugby league world cup and there have been 16 editions.
It's probably their most pathetic lack of achievement and deserves more attention

Super League and English Rugby Union Premiership have comparable crowds, ~7k avg. That's probably the best indicator of popularity, then there's tv ratings and I don't know maybe merchandise sales. I wouldn't look at social media because it's easily rigged either way. Rugby League is at least as popular overall in England as Rugby Union

Rugby League is only played in small norf towns and places like Leeds. Even then it is so far behind football.

The souf plays Rugby Union but only public school (private school) boys play it.
