Deboer's fine.

Even if he underperforms he has a few more years before a buyout is more reasonable.
9-3, no playoff would be fine
A great get for a position nobody seriously wanted following the GOAT.

Freedom of speech means you have freedom from legal consequences like getting arrested, not freedom from getting fired because being a retard on social media makes your employer look bad. Libfags created this game of snitching to employers over social media behavior. We're not going to stop playing because now it's their turn to get canceled and fired over social media posts.

Pretty sure the list is algorithmically generated based on recent and career wins, longevity, salary, and a few other variables without considering buyout amounts or who can afford them. And there are soft factors like a good relationship with the school's leadership, the optics of firing too soon, or having inherited someone else's mess.
DeBoer should be more worried about some crazy Harvey Updyke type fan than about being fired this year by the school's administration if the team doesn't make the playoff.

Nothing hypocritical at all about holding both of those beliefs. If you want to shit talk Charlie Kirk or BLM or anything else that gets people worked up do it anonymously on 4chan. Around the time Smart was hired by Georgia there had been a long string of other SEC programs trying to copy Saban by hiring one of his assistants, only to fail horribly. Smart/Georgia were the first to successfully pull that off. But that was the mid 2010s. Right now Saban's tree is looking a lot better thanks to recent success of guys like Cignetti, Lanning, Key and Cristobal. Kiffin and Sark are part of Pete Carroll's coaching tree. Their work for him as assistants is what elevated them to head coaches. They both had multiple head coaching jobs before working for Saban.

There are probably many constitutional issues with this but it would be good if Congress, in the name of interstate commerce and funding of universities, saved schools from themselves by limiting coach's contract to a much shorter period and put a cap on buyouts. Schools are not sports leagues and their leadership is setup for dealing with education and research. They're not setup to deal with professional sports agents.
The NCAA keeps getting smacked around by the courts because it's not a government entity with government powers, though it has tried to act like one. Congress is the correct entity to pass laws regulating the excesses in college athletic when they become a problem. Unfortunately, Congress is largely dysfunctional so most of us don't trust them to not end up making things worse. Nevertheless, in our system, they really are the only ones who can literally lay down the law.
Since the portal exists and players can make money off both their likeness and revenue sharing, the old argument that coaching contracts need to be long so players get a good shot at having that coach there for their entire four years of school is no longer relevant. Players are hired guns just like coaches are. Coaches shouldn't be able to hide behind the student-athlete as a negotiating tactic.

Cincinnati was coming off a CFP appearance at the time they were invited to the Big 12, which was just trying to survive at that time. Maybe they get Fickell back after Wisconsin shitcans him and start winning again.
>>
>>150831159
Yeah, one unicorn CFP appearance with a G5 schedule in the corona year. Same sort of story with UCF. I reckon the SEC should have gobbled up undefeated Liberty if adding G5 meme teams are the sustainable strategy for your respectable P5 conference.
>>
>>150831092
You can’t exactly blame the b12 for adding cinci at least at the time they were decent. Same for Houston but Houston made some sense for the Texas teams

>>150831248

Well Branding is important I think. The SEC has the flagship state schools of much of the South, most of whom have had at least above average historical success over a long period of time, which contributes to its brand image. The Big 12 was always sort of an off-brand Blue Bloods/little brothers conference that had that historical significance but not necessarily success (minus OU/T). Most of the additions are consistent with that level of play, even Coach Primate's team, but Cincy, UH, and UCF just come off to me as unnecessary FOTM panic adds that detract from that image and give the Big 12 bad vibes.

>Pavia initially filed a lawsuit in November 2024 against the NCAA, arguing that because the governing body counts junior college seasons towards NCAA eligibility and athletes cannot redshirt after they have played four years, NCAA rules violate antitrust law. Pavia also argued that this forced athletes to miss out on NIL dollars.

>Denied a third by corrupt refs.
And a corrupt playoff committee. Remember how much bitching ESPN did for 2-loss Bama in 2022 when they were left out?
No one did that for 1-loss Georgia. Meanwhile, a Texas team that got worse from September to December was inexplicably allowed in, as was a Michigan team that flagrantly broke NCAA rules. Should have been:
>1. Michigan
>2. Washington
>3. Alabama
>4. Georgia
>5. Florida State
>6. Texas
Or
>1. Washington
>2. Bama
>3. Florida State (moved up to prevent immediate SECCG rematch)
>4. Georgia
>5. Michigan (disqualified from CFP)
>6. Texas
NIL/Portal also fucked over Georgia between 2021 and 2023. Imagine if they still had Jermaine Burton, Matt Landers, and AD Mitchell available after McConkey & Bowers got injured. That 2023 offense would have looked like 2019 LSU when they were healthy.
>>

Definitely not. FSU had exactly 0 offense once Travis got hurt (and broke NCAA rules when they tampered with Amarius Mims) and Texas lost to a bad Oklahoma team on a neutral field and looked flat in general.

Rankings decide the championship field thus they should be based on team records. It shouldn't be power rankings otherwise the trophy should just be handed to the team with the most talent and fewest injuries. Travis getting injured didnt retroactively affect the record they had produced, and while they had reduced offensive output after losing him they still didn't lose and were undefeated by selection day. Ncaa violations don't undo the results on the field so the rankings themselves shouldn't be affected by that, though if say Michigan was ranked 1 yet banned from participating in the CFP that could be appropriate. Texas>Alabama>Georgia is a very clear victory chain whose head to head results shouldn't be ignored when comparing teams with similar straight records.

This is such a tired an pathetic talking point. First of all, cheating wasn't rampant, noone was paying players on a mass scale, and the amount of kickbacks and bullshit were pretty evenly spread based on the incidents we know about. There's nothing to suggest that anyone was allowed massive cheating schemes (like modern Michigan) based on the fact that several very well-moneyed schools got caught and we're severely punished for it. Also, post your transcript if you're going to be shit talking entire conferences.

Also, the top of the Big 10 has more money than the top of the SEC, always has. If it was so easy to cheat, why didn't their programs, which clearly history has proven have no problem with either physical abuse of players, sexual abuse of players, sexual abuse of women's sports players, sexual abuse of children, or blatant cheating schemes, do it?

>Rankings decide the championship field thus they should be based on team records. It shouldn't be power rankings otherwise the trophy should just be handed to the team with the most talent and fewest injuries.
These are your opinions, the committee saw fit to use Travis's injury as justification for omitting FSU. See: Hendon Hooker.
>Travis getting injured didnt retroactively affect the record they had produced,
It did though, in a way, because their offense vanished after his injury. Everyone saw that Louisville game.
>and while they had reduced offensive output after losing him
Understatement of the year
>they still didn't lose and were undefeated by selection day.
They were basically a different team without Travis.
>Ncaa violations don't undo the results on the field so the rankings themselves shouldn't be affected by that, though if say Michigan was ranked 1 yet banned from participating in the CFP that could be appropriate.
They probably would have been if the NCAA had any backup in the courts.
>Texas>Alabama>Georgia is a very clear victory chain whose head to head results shouldn't be ignored when comparing teams with similar straight records.
This is a common argument that has several flaws.
First, Texas beat Bama on September 9th in a season that saw them breaking in a new OC, DC, and QB.
Bama beat Georgia on December 2nd in the SECCG.
There is big difference between beating a team that was still figuring out its identity and beating that same team after fighting through an SEC schedule.
Second, we saw that Texas team do the opposite: they got worse as the season progressed, as we saw when they were mollywhopped by a far less talented UW team.
Third, there is a precedent in CFP rankings: In the 2022 CFP, Bama and Tennessee finished with the same record but Tenn had the head-to-head victory. In light of Hooker's injury, the Tide were given the nod in the final rankings anyway. The committee is allowed to use nuance in their decision

>>150838431
>Not recency bias, it's common sense.
Calling your opinion common sense doesn’t make it a fact. Here’s an actual fact: college football doesn’t have a preseason. Teams are awarded an equal number of wins for games in September as games in December. Not that it matters here though. Texas > Alabama > Georgia on the field and, not that the results needed any further validation, but that’s why the teams were ranked in that order.

The first hints of Arnold being a fraud came out of OU’s fall camp last season when he kept getting mogged to hell and back in practice by the defense he supposedly knows everything about though. Same thing happened to OU’s terrible offensive line last season.

It's sad that it's basically impossible to build a program to greatness if you didn't have greatness in decades past. You can't get a long term coach at like, Rutgers or San Jose State. The only real shot is to get the Miami coaching pipeline like Schnellenberger/Johnson/Erickson etc, and that is unbelievably hard if you don't get the first coach to make you a serious natty contender quickly

I'm saying if UGA hadn't had multiple receivers hit the portal. AD Mitchell and Jermaine Burton are both NFL guys now. Matt Landers was really good at Arkansas once he finally figured out how to catch the ball.
UGA still put up 40.1 PPG despite Bowers missing a chunk of the regular season and McConkey being banged up towards the end. Just saying, the offense would have been scary if they had 2-3 other guys with McConkey-esque playmaking ability.

Every team in the conference was the same. You had a bunch of East Coast "we're on the come up" programs. Anyone could win any game, and they did in 2008.

You had 50,000 fans on a Thursday Night watching games like Cincinnati vs. South Florida.

Instead we're turning on our TV's every Saturday and watching Ohio State blow another school out that they outspend 2-to-1.

FSU's starting roster is almost all juniors and seniors.

Wisconsin started 3 redshirt freshmen on their offensive line and a redshirt freshman at CB (with two true freshmen CBs on their two deep) against the second best receiver in the country.

>>150844841
> Anyone could win any game
This. Best part about mid to late 00's Big East. All the teams were similar in talent level which made for a bunch of fun games.

>every Saturday and watching Ohio State blow another school out that they outspend 2-to-1.
Also this. College Football has almost always been a sport of minimal parity, but the NIL and Transfer Portal era has only widened the gap between the haves and the have nots despite the media trying to tell us it's the opposite.

>>150841825
Like I mentioned before, CFB has almost always been a sport of minimal parity, but the hope was always landing a great coach and putting together great seasons where you could potentially find yourself in the national title conversation.

Now any school that actually lands that coach will get them poached by a B1G or SEC school because those schools are getting money out the ass and can pay them money they can't turn down, and there's more possibility of winning. Back in the day, coaches didn't need to leave as much because other schools couldn't really offer things that their current school couldn't.

>>150845348
Coaching movement isn't the killer, it's player movement. If a G5 team or a low tier P4 team stumbles onto an overlooked recruit who ends up being an All American he's transferring to a powerhouse B1G or SEC team immediately. If a 3* recruit is developed into an All Conference player over 3-4 years at a smaller school he'll transfer too for his last college season. Basically all the hard work of scouting/development done by smaller schools can now be poached by bigger schools, and the smaller schools get fuck all out of it. At least when their coaching staff is poached they are paid buyouts.

Same thing is raping and murdering Cinderellas in March Madness. Midmajors that went on Cinderella runs were typically teams of juniors and seniors who had all been playing together for years. They had good chemistry with each other, they knew their system like the back of their hand and they were experienced veterans. That plus a little luck could knock off more talented but younger and more inexperienced teams. Now those teams are raided of any player worth a shit before they can reach the Cinderella payoff and these players aren't even as good with their new team since they have zero chemistry with their new teammates and no experience with their new system.
>>
>>150845489
i think the answer is transfer fees, like soccer does
Alabam wants this kid from Ohio? How much is it worth to them? They have to agree on a fee to negotiate terms
If you're worried about small schools holding players hostage in this case, there can even be "minimum release clauses" like in soccer, where you can say if a big school hits the minimum, say $1million for a certain player, they have to let them go, and better players can negotiate higher release clauses
>>
>>150845489

SUNY Morrisville, the school with the black field, has an endowment of $2.3 million. Not billion... million. While there are some wealthy Division III schools like the Seven Sisters, overall schools at that level tend to have endowments under $300 million. I'm betting that if you plotted it, you'd get at least a bimodal distribution. The ones at the left of the graph would be the type he was talking about being pay for play.
>>150843113
People use it as a rough measure of a school's overall financial health and ability to raise funds from alumni. But you're correct that the money generally cannot be spent on athletics. That the endowment is growing or at least stable is a good sign, regardless of size.

>>150845538
That would only pass the constitutionality test if the players agreed to it through collective bargaining. That type of thing can happen in other countries or even in the US if the players have a union, but in the current situation, there's not much that can be done to restrict player movement, even if it is the school paying.

It's so weird that the Big Ten cares about the academic stuff that they made Nebraska join their coalition thing, only for Nebraska to be kicked out literally 1 year later
>>
>>150850804
At this point I have to say neither. Too many low money teams in the ACC to get poached like in >>150850866 retardation and the XII is too big already to take enough of the middling schools to finish the ACC off.
>>

Cal and Stanford didn't apply for the Big Ten, they were the last two schools to leave the PAC because they wanted it to stay

It's now the 'Art of Sport LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk'. Kimmel's sponsorship had already expired. As stupid as his time as the title sponsor was, got to admit it did raise the profile of the game.

Either way they're never seeing the B1G. The B1G isn't getting anything from either of those schools that isn't already provided by UCLA and USC.

It's year 3 and Wisconsin is a joke, anon. Never should have ended the Alvarez line
>>
>>
>no more Jimmy Kimmel bowl
Even on a gameless Wednesday it's another HUGE day for college football
>>150851090
The LA Bowl itself was already a retarded idea. It'll never match the Shreveport (Independence) Bowl.
>>
>>150851083
Calford definitely asked the B1G if they could get invited at some point, that kind of thing just doesn't get publicized when schools are rejected. Nobody is choosing the Nu Pac or playing in the ACC for scraps over B1G membership.

>SEC is angling to try to get UNC and UVA
Why the fuck would the SEC be angling for mid major shitbags that struggle to win like UNC and UVA that don't have any ties to the existing members for a prestige conference when several quality ACC schools are already magnitudes more culturally, geographically, competitively, and financially fit to be in the SEC (FSU, Clempus, Georgia Tech, Miami)
>>
>>150851553
Why would the SEC want premier basketball schools in the south
>>
>>150851553
>good academics
>good basketball
>wealthy fanbases
>regional fits
>large, growing states the SEC does not yet have a presence in
>easy wins for the SEC's football powers
>>
Legitimately speaking, is 1982 Penn State the single most fraudulent national champion ever? They won their bowl game on a "catch" that was multiple yards out of bounds.
>>
>>150851609
AP, not UPI btw
>>
Have some pity on Gronk, let him host the Brazzers Bowl or Pornhub Bowl instead of some soulless city bowl
>>
other than USC's 400 lb thick six, this was the best pick six of the weekend imo
>>
>>150851553
Because there's way more that goes into conference realignment and expansion than 95% of CFB fans realize. The biggest reason is that UNC and Virginia reaches media markets that the SEC doesn't already have. That means they'll actually help the conference reach more TV's which means larger TV contract. They're both the flagship schools in their respective states, and they both have large athletic budgets (even though Virginia's lack of success doesn't reflect this) they're regional fits, etc.

SEC already has Georgia, so why would they ever take Georgia Tech back? UGA eveb is more popular in Atlanta than GTech is
>>
>>150851591
ain't nobody cares about that shit
>>
>>150851695
>The biggest reason is that UNC and Virginia reaches media markets that the SEC doesn't already have.
You can get the SEC Network nationwide now anon.
>>
>>150851754
You get more money for conference networks in areas that are part of the conference. It's why the B1G invited Maryland and Rutgers. Adding NYC and DC printed tens of millions of dollars for the conference just by charging every cable subscriber in those areas a little more for the BTN. Same thing happened again when they brought LA and Seattle into the fold.
>>
>>150851798
Don't forget about that sweet sweet Eugene money

>which is the extent of your 1A rights
You’ve confused free speech with the first amendment (which doesn’t protect free speech). In a society with free speech people couldn’t lose their health insurance over free speech. We don’t live in such a society.
>>
>>150839465
It matters, but it’s not necessarily correct. If you believe they’ve never been wrong you’d be the first.

Nebraska was undefeated in 1914 though.
>>
>>150851798
I live in Raleigh. SEC Network is already on the lowest cable subscription right now. I'm sure that's true of every market in NC and VA. Where would this windfall come from exactly?
>>
>>150851819
No society like that has ever existed
>>
It's really funny looking at Old footage, and seeing that players were taught to block head first, just literally headbutting the defender with his arms at his side. It's even more ridiculous than when you see people do chicken wing blocks
>>
>>150851798
This was the A1 argument 15 years ago. Muh media markets matter, but not near as much now. Like the other anon said SEC Network is already on every cable operator below the M-D line and east of Texas. It's more about capturing inventory that appeals nationally to your TV partners to sell ads than capturing dying cable subscriptions.
>>

Yes, UNC and VA are very valuable TV markets, that's why their games are always shoved into whatever random slot they can fit in while every single one of the teams in redundant markets. What is this "rumor" about UNC and UVA anyway?
There's not any source for it except "some anon said"
>why would they ever take Georgia Tech back
Georgia wants them back and have voted as such before
>>
>>150851871
>>150851966
It's not about going from no SEC Network availability to having the SEC Network. It's about going from charging .20 per subscriber per month for the SECN to charging a dollar per subscriber per month for the SECN.
>>
>>150851730
The Big XII and the P2 want to wrestle control of March Madness away from the NCAA.
>muh Cinderellas
Other conferences will still get invites to play but everything will be structured to favor the top conferences.
>>
>>150852250
As the other anon pointed out but you ignored, cord cutting is making subscription fees a shrinking pot while the advertising pool keeps growing. You're chasing a dying revenue source, the conferences (and their media partners) are chasing a growing revenue source.
>>
>>150852250
>t. Blockbuster CEO

>>150851090
>got to admit it did raise the profile of the game.
Raised the profile so much that nobody noticed it went away 3 years ago
>>
>>150851598
If the SEC wants easy wins, why did they add the two far and away most powerful teams in the Big 12? Like an anon said above about the Big 12, branding has meaning and letting in more bottom feeders that will get stomped in OOC games hurts the branding of a conference that's primarily a football conference and is doing just fine in basketball (a smaller market) as is.
>>150852244
>every single one of the teams in redundant markets
I meant to say
>every single one of the teams in redundant markets
has had a primetime slot this year.
And like the other anon is so wisely pointing out, cable is a dying market and will be irrelevant by the time ACC realigns, so any cable distribution deal bonuses are meaningless. Every bar I've been to in my town to watch football uses direct streaming services, not cable.
>>
>>150852383
Bars around here use satellite.
>>
>>150852097
There would always be a kino snow game w like Colorado State on Thursday.
>>
>>150852304
>>150852322
It still matters until conferences start signing 100% streaming deals, which won't happen until boomers die off. They're the biggest cable customers and big college sports fans. As a reminder, the final nail in the Pac 12's coffin was Apple offering them a pure streaming contract because nobody wants to take the plunge yet. Markets aren't as important as they used to be but the conference network grift is still a big chunk of revenue for the conferences. Cord cutting doesn't get you entirely off the hook, either. If you subscribe to something like YTTV or Fubo for the season the conferences are still getting a cut from you.
