ITT: Representatives from the countries in green explain why their country never developed its own unique or historic sporting culture and just copied what the UK developed with soccer without any culture.

Uh, they we’re building railways or algo

op cares a lot about this topic

Well you could easily work out an answer yourself based on that map, since handegg is just rugby on easy mode.

Why is Australian Football and Cricket the same shade of red?

Also seeing as this feels like the sort of post that’ll attract a lot of posts

Why is France so bad at sport relative to their population? Like what sports do actual French people play? They seem weirdly bad at any team sport that isn’t full of Africans and surely they can’t all be into tennis and cycling?

ITT: OP is still a mentally ill latinx

Why mess with perfection? Indoor football/futsal is the only innovation to football that I would say is just as fun or funner. To play at least, not to watch.

I believe the development of many modern sports was heavily influenced by a combination of factors in the UK and North America.

The **United Kingdom**, as an island nation, was geographically shielded from the devastating, large-scale wars that ravaged mainland Europe. This stability, along with its status as the birthplace of the **Industrial Revolution**, gave it a crucial head start. People had the leisure time and resources to develop and codify games, many of which became the predecessors of modern sports.

Similarly, the **United States** also benefited from its geographical isolation from European conflicts. While it wasn't wealthy from its inception, it experienced rapid economic growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This prosperity and being spared from the kind of devastating, all-encompassing **industrial warfare** that was transforming conflict in Europe, created the perfect conditions for the development of new sports like **gridiron football** and **basketball** on its own land. People had both the time and wealth needed to participate in and popularize them.

In contrast, many countries in mainland Europe were still recovering from or dealing with conflicts within their own borders. These circumstances prevented the widespread development of organized sports in the same way, as the focus was often on rebuilding and survival rather than on leisure and recreation.

Cricket is dubious, it could be French, Flemish, or Irish. Whatever its origins it definitely was propagated by the British Empire

Football is more violent. The pads enable the players to play far more aggressively. It's just a slower game with constant stops.
Rugby is great though. Much better than fucking soccer. I will never understand how pussy-footy got so popular.

Unironically, why aren't there more codes of football? It was played in a rudimentary form across Europe, not just Britain, since the Middle Ages. How come more countries didn't codify rules and instead just adopted FA rules?
>>
>>150985800
They're all shit apart from football. Why invent a mid sport when you're already playing a great one?
>>
>>150985819
It's not like we even saw some sort of Italian or French football come about and lose out to English football in popularity before fizzling out. They just straight up adopted the English game. These countries had their own historical football games in calcio or choule but they never became of anything. In Ireland, there's Gaelic football which was codified like 20 years after the FA's. I'm surprised more countries didn't follow suit around this time
>>
>>150985800
>>150985819
>>150985899
my friends, I understand that FA's laws became the popular code all over the world and it is by far the most important, but there's literally a different football code played in each country, what the actual fuck are you talking about?
in Argentine alone there's like 5 different codes of football being more popular than the "second" most popular sport (which is motorsport btw).

Huh? I thought it was baseball

Your map is just a map of the most popular spectator sport in each country.
Doesn't tell you anything about sport cultures.
Watching something doesn't make you special, doing it is. And plenty of countries in soccer color are high achievers in many sports with lots of Olympic medals

>>150985899

It is, there are two shades of yellow.

Also for some reason Australia is colored for cricket instead of Aussie Football, and Britain was erased.
