To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand sports. The strategies are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the action will go over a typical viewer's head.

Sports are something you get from your dad typically, and the Gen X-Gen Z strain was a lot less into Sports as entertainment than the Boomer-Millennial strain.Gen Xers were narratively "Latchkey kids who raised themselves" they also grew up in the era of Saturday Morning Cartoons, Video Game Arcades as a Social event, and generally Athletes at a historic low for character. Lets face it, the athletes of the 50s-60s and the 90s-00s were, for the most part, portrayed as exemplary characters, the games a community experience that the whole family could get into.Sports of the 70s-80s and even for the last decade and a half, has largely been seen as mixed characters, drug use and domestic violence. Stars were known to do recreational and performance enhancing drugs, on the Gen X youth end the fans were rowdy, hostile and ready to riot, on the Zoomer youth end the ticket prices were so ridiculous that a non-wealthy family could not feasibly go to anything really. So Gen Xers parents were less inclined to let their kids watch sports. Gen Xers got into comic book heroes and video games instead and passed that onto their kids. Zoomers spend their days streaming video games and watching Marvel Movies. When they made Spiderman and Batman for Millennial eyes, the first couple did pretty good but people quickly grew tired of every super hero on the playground. Ultimately it's mostly because Kieth Hernandez bought coke from a guy in a parrot outfit in America.
