>On 29 February 2020, Bayern Munich supporters unfurled an offensive banner aimed at Hoffenheim owner Dietmar Hopp, resulting in the match being suspended with less than 15 minutes left to play. After concerns that the game could be abandoned, both teams returned to finish the match, but had decided to just run down the clock to end the game in solidarity with Hopp. Rather than play on, the two teams began passing the ball between each other and chatting as if they were all teammates.

Why is the Bundes so plastic and cringe, you've got Red Bull running around too.

Meanwhile in the UK, the MK "Dons" are frequently derided and have been an abject failure.

Everyone constantly mocks these clubs, so what? The guy behind the club just chimped out when he himself got targeted. Funnily enough, him doing that led to various other fan groups calling him Hurensohn with banners and so on
>>
Football fans are generally dumb. They think more fans (especially poor ones) = more genuine club. You can't find more despicable bandwagonners in this world than fans of a well known football club

at risk of making a non-sequitur... how come this never happened when racist chants are heard?
what makes this guy so important that both teams went on strike in the middle of the pitch?

whats funny is bayerns major investor is bigger than the saudi investment fund (1.1 trillion vs 900 billion)

the most disgusting ubercorporate overdog in the entire world signalling about how grassroots and "for the supporters" they are

Dietmar Hopp ain't even the worst type of rich guy owner. Dude grew up in Hoffenheim, actually played for the club and invested in them when they got in financial trouble and helped them rise up. It's every football fan's dream.
Honestly, if I was rich and could do that for my childhood local football club, I'd also do that.

WHAT DID THE BANNER SAY

"Du Hurensohn" (You son of a whore), with D and H marked to signify they mean Dietmar Hopp
It was a very unspectacular move, but unfortunately for the Bayern fans, their club bosses are friends with Hopp and gladly throw their own fans under the bus for him
As a response, lots of other clubs' fans started similar actions, among them the face of Hopp in the crosshairs and stuff like "You want to punish us for free speech? What the fuck is wrong with you, you son of a whore?" when Hopp threatened legal action. Schalke fans did another Hurensohn banner and were told to apologize by their club leadership, so they made an extra large choreo saying "We apologize to all whores for connecting them with Dietmar Hopp"
It was mostly harmless and basically a Streisand effect. Hopp and the Bayern bosses could have refrained from crying and almost all of this wouldn't have happened

Most dedicated fans of other clubs despise him for putting Hoffenheim, a club with zero fan culture and history, in the Bundesliga through his money. Hoffenheim was a club exempt from the 50+1 rule, and all of these are really unpopular. Then Hoffenheim changed structure to fit within 50+1, but they soon got into a bit of financial turmoil and Hopp immediately gifted them another few dozen millions, which made everyone else seethe. Fans of other clubs hate Hoffenheim as a club and Hopp for creating them as they are today, and they hate that Hopp is often applauded as a philantrophist. Especially during this banner campaign, when he threatened legal action against tons of groups and was defended by the likes of Uli Hoeneß, who is hated by plenty of people as well
A foreign investor with no local roots would definitely be even less popular, though. But even the people who recognize that the Hopp/Hoffenheim story is kind of romantic usually agree that Hoffenheim shouldn't be in the Bundesliga. Or the 2nd tier

how is this any diffrent from any other club

sounds like all those sets of fans were right to mock him then.

His crime was being a rich man who invested lots of money into his shitty local team. The team improved massively with all his money, so it was like the Bundesliga equivalent of Chelsea or Man City, or that Scottish guy who got multiple promotions for Gretna. Fans were seething because of muh soul, but the players don't mind because of muh wages.
>>
>>150988508
More like the Bundesliga equivalent of Wigan.

its just that he might threaten bayern, dont fall for their sanctimonious act

Let me guess - Liverpool customer with a county bucks postcode?

It's very simple, Hopp is friends with Uli Hoeneß. They're neighbours or golfing buddies etc. So Uli ordered the team to stand down for his buddy.
